It been a while since I had a 2 handle Delta. If my memory serves me right.
Turn off the water to the faucet. Remove the screw that holds the handle.
Remove the handle. There should be a retaining nut under the handle. Remove it.
You might need to pry up on the stem to get it out of the casing. I use to
replace the handle back on the stem, put the screw back on and tap gently to
get the stem loose, if I had to.

I am preparing for surgery on a older model two handle delta fauct.
the cold water side leaks from undr the handle and it really pours
out if you turn on that handle. so the screw is out of the top. How
does one lift up the handle . does it need some type of puller ? can it
be pried off with two screwdrivers ? we now have a new Lowes and if
need be there is a different hardware store some 12 miles North of here.
worst case senerio we will install a new one. thanks Lee

the part I am having now R J is that handle is not just coming off.
not sure if it is because of the hard water that set up the faucet or
not. there is plenty of room underneath it to pry but..

Keep in mind Delta has a lifetime warranty on parts. So if you take the model
number along to Lowes you'll get the parts free. Or that's how they work down
here.

Now to try answering your question.

Most knobs have a button in the middle that pry out. Under that is a screw.
Take the screw out and you should be able to rock the knob back and forth while
pulling up and it comes off in your hand.

Once the knob is off you'll see the stem. This also has to come out to fix the
problem. Under the stem, there is a small spring and a valve. They both just
lift out. The older stems were metal and the newer ones are now plastic.
Cheaper but plastic doesn't rust.

The valve is a short piece of rubber and plastic. Basically it just drops into
a hole and the collar on the valve keeps it from falling through. When you put
the stem back on top of the spring and valve it will go in 2 ways and still
turn. One way won't shut off the water and the other way will. I can't give
you an exact way to install it without being there to show you. But if you pay
attention to how it turns to come out, you will know how it should go back in.
If you do it wrong, it won't line up correctly and it will also twist in a
different direction.

It isn't rocket science by any means so give it a whirl.

Lee,

I believe you will have to get the handle off to get to the retaining nut. I
would use something like the product called super Blaster. Just spray it on
and let it set over night. Or try soaking a rag with Coke and lay it on the
handle for a few hours, some times that works.

I am preparing for surgery on a older model two handle delta fauct.
the cold water side leaks from undr the handle and it really pours
out if you turn on that handle. so the screw is out of the top. How
does one lift up the handle . does it need some type of puller ? can it
be pried off with two screwdrivers ? we now have a new Lowes and if
need be there is a different hardware store some 12 miles North of here.
worst case senerio we will install a new one. thanks Lee

Delta doesn't have a model #, so they told me a few years ago. They claim all
faucets use the same parts if single lever, or the same parts for the two
handle.

Sometimes under the faucet, on the bottom side, is a favorite place to hide
it. You'll have to have the Mrs. contort for you and see if she can see it
hiding. Worst case is you'll have to show them the faucet. That's a lousy case
though because you'll have to pull it off and I'd rather replace it at that
point...

Now to try answering your question.

Most knobs have a button in the middle that pry out. Under that is a screw.
Take the screw out and you should be able to rock the knob back and forth while
pulling up and it comes off in your hand.

Once the knob is off you'll see the stem. This also has to come out to fix
the problem. Under the stem, there is a small spring and a valve. They both
just lift out. The older stems were metal and the newer ones are now plastic.
Cheaper but plastic doesn't rust.

The valve is a short piece of rubber and plastic. Basically it just drops
into a hole and the collar on the valve keeps it from falling through. When you
put the stem back on top of the spring and valve it will go in 2 ways and still
turn. One way won't shut off the water and the other way will. I can't give you
an exact way to install it without being there to show you. But if you pay
attention to how it turns to come out, you will know how it should go back in.
If you do it wrong, it won't line up correctly and it will also twist in a
different direction.

It isn't rocket science by any means so give it a whirl.

product Delta has and how it can beexchanged out and or repaired.
