RE: Axis Error after updater for 6.1

2004-10-13 Thread James Holmes
I take back, my previous statement, a mapping did help. I previously had a
custom tag path, not a mapping (oops).

Here's an example:

I have a subdomain on our server. In this subdomain I have a site. In the
/webserv subdir of the site, I placed a test cfc (a really simple one).
Browsing for the WSDL failed with the errors we have described.

I then added a CF mapping of /webserv, specifying the full path of the dir.
It suddenly works again. This means that every subdomain that needs
webservices will need to put them in a mapped directory (and the mappings
will need to be unique for each subdomain). It's a pain but at least it
works again.

OK, we are now seeing exactly the same problem. We already use mappings and
this doesn't help - I also moved the CFC into the root of our domain (a
vhost in Apache) and I still get the same error.

If no-one can help, we will have to roll-back the updater.

Well then I don't have any advice for you :-(

Although writing your own would be pretty easy (assuming all you're doing is creating a flat file CSV or tab delimtited) if you can't gte the tag working.

Re: Performance

2004-10-13 Thread Nathan Strutz
Most network switches these days have SNMP info you can pull to get
current bandwidth If you don't know, I imagine your windows boxes will
have the same. Look into that (services - snmp service), it will give
you realtime network traffic readings. Popular tools like MRTG are built
using this data. MRTG graphs bandwidth usage (among other things like
cpu and memory usage, or custom things), and is an invaluable tool in
some situations.

CFX_Dumptext and MX6.1

2004-10-13 Thread dev
I have code which works on CF5Server but not MX6.1 using the tag
cfx_dumptext.dll from the tag library.

I have searched the site and past emails without any hint at anyone else
posting this issue. I have tested the code on two servers (CF5 and MX6.1) -
it works fine on 5 but not on 6.1.

Has anyone run into code that uses cfx_dumptext and not have it work on 6.1?
I am using the latest version. Kinda frazzled at this point, please share
you experience with this if any.

Check to make sure that you're reference the columns in the query
results correctly. I seem to recall that sometimes when you get
"Element XXX is undefined in  SESSION" there's a sub-section in XXX
that's not defined. i.e., if XXX is a structure, you may be referring
to a key which doesn't exist in that structure.  In this case, you may
be misspelling one of the columns in your query results.

Try doing a dump of the session state and see if srchresults is there.
 I suspect that it is.

2004-10-13 Thread dave
sorry for the delays, i was busy sleepin ;)

i'll try an answer everys ?'s

the things we still need are cleaning up the code (minimizing, was a lot of extra junk in the php code)
converting the queries to cfcs, which i was doing last night but got them and the other app i was working on mixed up gr
the admin section (depending on how far robert has gotten)

i think we should slap a hof logo on there

yes, it's an opensource app
but the original one is in php but its time we start doing our helping the cfm crowd
after doing this i sure can remember why i left php!!!

yes i got the translations, thanks!

as soon as the app is fully functional I would like someone to go back through everything and change all the variable to english in the reg cgm files and the fla & as files. Shouldnt be hard with find & replace but it has to be very accurate

here is the link to how it currently sits
http://www.jamwerx.com/cfmblog2.rar

but please post what u will be doing so we know.
would like at least to get someone to help with the cfcs, shouldnt take too long but i got some stuff to do before i could get to them

as far as the admin section goes, how far have u gotten robert?

Re: Performance

2004-10-13 Thread Kwang Suh
It could most certainly be a bandwidth issue.  I actually just did some load testing today which leads me to believe that it's the available bandwidth on our production web server that is the bottleneck, not slow CF performance (in fact, CF was very very fast).

One easy thing you can try is to install compression for your web server and then do some simple load testing to see if bandwidth is indeed your problem.  Note that it could also be your 100 Mb network card that is the bottleneck.

You mean to switch off CFID/CFTOKEN only? Otherwise, I don't see any

Re: FLiP Methodology.....

2004-10-13 Thread Greg Luce
I don't think you're paying attention. FLiP doesn't use .qry or .dsp files (nor does Fusebox if that's what you're trying to reference). I think you need to read a little bit about FLiP before giving advice. FLiP is a M E T H O L O G Y, not a F R A M E W O R K. You can use FLiP and code the app using the MachII framework, Fusebox, the frighteningly popular Spaghetti-Code, or any other way you'd like.

I think you're trying to compare MachII and Fusebox. That's a whole different can of works.

alllrighty then...

If you're talking about the performance of the application (rather
than development time), there's significant evidence to support the
idea that a Fusebox 4 application will perform better than a Mach-II
application which performs the same tasks.

The issue of development time is pretty subjective and varries greatly
from one developer (or team) to another.

Well we are using an ntext field in that table.  As for the problem with

There is only one web server.

Are you working with CLOB data in this SQL UPDATE statement? Are you
using
the same version of the DataDirect SQL Server driver on each machine?
That
is, have you installed any database driver updates (including CFMX 6.1
Updater 1) on one machine and not the other?

I would recommend that you install CFMX 6.1 Updater 1 on the problematic
machine. If you did that already, you might try using Microsoft's own
JDBC
driver, with which I've had excellent results.

Performance

2004-10-13 Thread Robertson-Ravo, Neil (RX)
OK,

We are having some serious issues with slow page loads and I am not sure if
its ColdFusion which is the culprit or if its network setup etc.  We have
some page stacks which seem to parse, according to Coldfusion debugging in
say 1.1 seconds but from the time a user hits the mouse button to the time
the page appears it can be upward of 8-15 seconds, in some cases even more.
Now CF surely isn't causing this bottleneck as it seems to be parsing
sweetly...so question is, could it be the ISP and some crappy network setup
etc...?

We are running CFMX 6.1, Windows 2000, IIS 5.x.  We have 3 load balanced web
servers which read code of a central repository file server (which is
separate).  Now, what on earth is causing the delay in display?!  We are
noticing a lot of queued requests as far as CF is concerned and we have
tweaked and gave CF some JVM enhancements but we are still seeing the
lag

Uurgh, anyone?

How would you sort outputted columns processed by a form?
The only way I think of is adding a value to the processing form
  called "Sort By:"
and allowing the user to select which column to sort by.

Anyone else have any other ideas?
If you refresh the page those form variables are gone.
So it's not like you can pass those variables back along with a url
  variable for sorting purposes.

Re: CFMX/J2EE - where can I store my components?

2004-10-13 Thread Barney Boisvert
We're not, simply for cost reasons (twice the hardware, more or less).

I can see it being valuable if you've got a site with lot of static
content, because you'd probably want more web servers than you'd need
CF servers.  With distributed, you could run several web servers for
the static content and have them connect to one or two shared CF
servers for dynamic calls.  Distributed mode also lets a machine from
your web cluster die without affecting the app cluster, and the
converse, because you can load balance in both places separately.

cheers,

RE: JavaScript Enabled Stats

2004-10-13 Thread Matthew Walker
You could use JS to load an image that's really a CFM page -- new
Image().src = "" . You would embed code to add the
record (set to notEnabled) in your page, and add code to the stats.cfm file
that would toggle it to enabled.

Subject: _javascript_ Enabled Stats

I want to find out about how many of our users have _javascript_ enabled.  I
think it'll be like 99%, but would like to know if it is, in fact, something
like 75%.

I can make a simple database that stores 2 values (Enabled, notEnabled) to
update with each session, but I'm not sure how to exactly check.

The plan would be just a simple addition to a site's Application.cfm.  I
want to set a var on the page, JSEnabled = false;  then use _javascript_ to
set the var to true onLoad.  (which will obviously only happen if they have
JS enabled)

The problem then, is how do I get this information back, as the page is not
just a form.  They could click on any number of links which I don't want to
change.  Has anyone tried taking stats like this before?  Otherwise, is it
available in some other way?  (For example, a cgi.client_javascript??)

We get back stats for all these vars:

Re: CFMX 6.1 Updater DateFormat Issue

2004-10-13 Thread Adrocknaphobia
Can anyone explain this one?

listLen(myVar, ' ') = 3

listGetAt(myVar, 1, ' ') = Invalid List Index 1

So CF tells me there are 3 indexes when using the _space_ as a
delimeter. Yet when I try to parse the first index it claims there
isn't one.

Again, works on 6.1 errors on 6.1 Updater.

I don't think there's any meaningful order to form data, but if you really
want to preserve it in the order in which it was sent by the browser, you
can access the HTTP request body directly using the GetHTTPRequestData

CFMX 6.1 Updater DateFormat Issue

We are using oracle timestamp on all our rows (for replication

Honestly I was a bit suprised that 6.1 didnt have an issue when

says that its not a vaild date.

Just thought I would share that bit of knowledge and see if anyone

Only use bind variables (i.e. cfqueryparam) for variables, not
for identifiers. Using bind variables signals that the query
execution plan is stable and can be cached, which is not the case
when you use them for identifiers.

the same version of the DataDirect SQL Server driver on each machine? That
is, have you installed any database driver updates (including CFMX 6.1
Updater 1) on one machine and not the other?

I would recommend that you install CFMX 6.1 Updater 1 on the problematic
machine. If you did that already, you might try using Microsoft's own JDBC
driver, with which I've had excellent results.

cfqueryparam issue

2004-10-13 Thread Greg Morphis
Okay I just spent about an hour on this...
Something's messed up with cfquerparam when used within the order by
SQL statement.
It was like it was ignoring the order by entirely.

order by

is what I had at the bottom of my query in the CFC

I took the SQL code generated by ColdFusion (in the debug section),
dumped that into Oracle and BAM ordered by correctly.
I thought something was up with my
I'm using a nested with the group= attribute.
I tried everything I could think of.. finally asked a friend who
fortunately for me said that he ran into problems using the
tag in the ORDER BY statement..
I took it out and replaced with

order by #arguments.sortby#

and it worked.

Has anyone else seen this or knows what the deal with
is when in the ORDER BY SQL statement.

4096 Error

2004-10-13 Thread Kazmierczak, Kevin
We have a weird error that pops up every once in a while.  Ever since we
moved to CFMX from CF5, we have been getting this mysterious error
"4096".  It has happened about 5 times in the last month or so.

All the message says is "4096"

And the stack trace is as follows

java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException: 4096

  at
macromedia.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerByteOrderedDataWriter.putUCS2String(U
nknown Source)

  at
coldfusion.server.j2ee.sql.JRunStatement.execute(JRunStatement.java:212)

  plus more lines I removed..

The line number points to inside a query on the where clause of an
update statement.  The weird thing is on one machine the error will
occur, and then I can go on my machine and it will work just fine, same
browser, same os, same site.

Anyone have this problem before?

Thanks for the help.

Re: FLiP Methodology.....

Ahhh, no, that's more apples to oranges.  You can use FLIP and never
write a single piece of fusebox code.  BTW, MVC is not new either.

Here's a link to some mp3's about FLIP from Jeff Peters and Hal Helms.
It will give you a good idea of what FLIP is.

Change this to separate fields for , MM and DD. Concatenate
them all together, then concatenate that with the server time and
you have MMDDHHMMSS. You can now do a simple string
comparison (just be sure to document that the code needs to be
revised before Y10K).

Re: CFMX/J2EE - where can I store my components?

2004-10-13 Thread Barney Boisvert
I usually set up my applications with a single approot, and within
that is the webroot and a 'com' folder, which is the root of my CFC
package hierarchy for the application.  Obviously CFCs that will be
called with web services need to be in the webroot, but those are the
exception.

For split installs (web server and CF on different machines), I'd
recommend just installing the entire tree to both machines.  It's
enormously simpler that way, and since your web root doesn't contain
any of the CFCs, there's no way anyone can possibly call it.

Just finished first listen of Helms and Peters talking about

OT: Javascript Date/Time help!

2004-10-13 Thread Jeff Waris
I can handle this with CF no problem, but I have an instance where I need to
make a DATE and TIME comparison with the server time BEFORE a form gets
submitted. I figure the best way to handle this is in the form of some
_javascript_ validation. I know _javascript_ but I am no expert by any means.

Here is what I got:
-I can pull the current form date entry with document.myForm.dueDate.value.
-Everyone enters the date in MM/DD/ on the form.
-I can make a _javascript_ variable of the current server DATE using
createdate() CF function.
-I can make a _javascript_ variable of the current server TIME as well using
the CF function createtime().
-I can pull from my database a CUTOFF time in HH:MM:SS from my database.

Now for the tuff part. Using _javascript_, I need to combine the FORM DATE and
CURRENT SERVER TIME into a single _javascript_ variable, lets call it
FORMDATE_TIME. I then need to take the CURRENT SERVER DATE and compine it
with the DATABASE's CUTOFF TIME into another _javascript_ variable as
CUTOFFDATE_TIME.

Once I have those variables, I want to return true if the FORMDATE_TIME is
less than the CUTOFFDATE_TIME and return false if not.

Any help or point in the right direction from any _javascript_ gurus would be
appreciated...

Thanks.

sorting form variables

2004-10-13 Thread Greg Morphis
How would you sort outputted columns processed by a form?
The only way I think of is adding a value to the processing form
called "Sort By:"
and allowing the user to select which column to sort by.

Anyone else have any other ideas?
If you refresh the page those form variables are gone.
So it's not like you can pass those variables back along with a url
variable for sorting purposes.

I don't see the connection... FLiP is a methodology... it could just
as well be adapted to Mach-II as it would be adapated to Fusebox and
have approximate effect on your development ... Further arguments can
be made that it's faster to develop with Mach-II than with Fusebox or
other non-oo platforms. I disagree that there is a gain in terms of
development time _unless_ you are already familiar with OO and _more_
comfortable with OO than with procedural development. In all other
cases I would expect there to be a loss in terms of development time.
Other pros and cons of OO development can and are argued on their own
individual merits and make up the argument for or against moving to OO
development from an existing procedural model.

The preceding has been a public service announcement. :)

It's a step-by-step process for taking programming project idea from
concept to completion which has been built primarily around Fusebox.
Some of the middle bits (identifying circuits & fuses, etc) could be
swapped out for any other given coding framework. The surrounding bits
primarily involve requirements gathering and suggest that the
application should be wire-framed and that the look and feel should be
completed before a single line of code is written. Once that's done
the clients sign off on the look and feel and the desired
functionality -- they can (and will) make changes after they sign off
on it, however, with proper documentation they pay higher fees for
changes made after this point. The whole idea really is to streamline
the non-coding portion of the work, to improve communication with
clients and thereby improve client satisfaction with the finished
product.

Mach-II uses OO and the new MVC technology. FLiP is good, but compared to MVC, it's like comparing a Chevette to a Corvette.

Re: What happened?

2004-10-13 Thread Michael Dinowitz
That's when I installed the latest MS security update and did a chkdsk to make sure everything was good. The system took a long time and didn't even finish the chkdsk. There's a LOT of data on the system.
I'm making sure everything is back now.

Re: CF and HashCash for email: Easy

2004-10-13 Thread Anders Green
Didn't take much to get this working. There is
a command line executable at hashcash.org that
you can download. So, (after removing buncha
dynamic stuff for clarity here) it looks like this:

 name="c:\hashcash.exe"
 arguments="-mb22 [EMAIL PROTECTED]"
 variable="hashCashResult"
 timeout="5">

 TO="[EMAIL PROTECTED]"
 FROM="[EMAIL PROTECTED]"
 SUBJECT="Password Reminder"    >
Hello user,
The password for your account is: some_password

Cheers,
The Database

 name = "X-HashCash"
 value = "#hashCashResult#" >

Here is how much SpamAssasin adjusts the spam score based
on the number of bits used (22 in the above example)
Hashcash 20  bits -0.500
Hashcash 21  bits -0.700
Hashcash 22  bits -1.000
Hashcash 23  bits -2.000
Hashcash 24  bits -3.000
Hashcash 25  bits -4.000
Hashcash >25 bits -5.000

Cheers all,
Anders

FLiP Methodology.....

2004-10-13 Thread Ciliotta, Mario
HI,

Does anyone on this list use the FLiP Methodology. I was wondering exactly
what this is and what the benefits are of using it.

Thanks

Mario

Re: J2EE Sessions / session.urlToken

2004-10-13 Thread Chris Norloff
CFID/CFTOKEN are still used to identify client variables stored in the database.

Check the help on urlSessionFormat, I think there's a switch to turn off the token append.

best,
Chris Norloff

undefined value?

2004-10-13 Thread Phillip Perry
Hi,

I've got the following cfquery statement:

SELECT *
FROM error_table
WHERE error_id = #url.id#

in the error_table table there is a primary key called error_id, but the
system says that error_id is undefined. I did a cfdump on #error_id# and it
says the same thing. I did a cfdump on all variables (
var="#Variables#"and the error_id shows up on my query. I can't get the code
to proceed any further without getting the error_id undefined error so I
cant use dump any further. Any suggestions? Oh, and is true
btw.

Thanks

Phil

if CF5 and mySQL then no CREATE TABLE?

2004-10-13 Thread Matt Robertson
I just tried to run an installer on a client's server, where that
installer runs some cfqueries that create tables.  Its a CF5/mySQL4
box, where I installed the latest mySQL odbc and db maybe a month ago.
I created the mySQL dsn in the Windows ODBC applet as was normal in
the olden days.

Running the installer yields this :

"The SQL operation you specified is unrecognized (only SELECT, INSERT,
UPDATE, DELETE, and CALL are supported). "

The CF Admin control page for this dsn only has checkboxes for
allowing/disallowing select, insert, update and delete.

Is that normal?  no table creation in CF5/mySQL?  Sounds so wrong.
Wasn't that way in older vers.

CFMX/J2EE - where can I store my components?

2004-10-13 Thread Garcia Freddys
I would like to hear where people are putting the Coldfusion Components
when using a J2EE configuration for Coldfusion.
It is possible to store all the components on the CFMX server in order
to keep the web server free of any program logic?  If so, what does it
entail to set this up?  Mappings, etc..
My boss has this rule about keeping all logic off the web server as much
as possible.

Re: Scopes. Which are nested?

2004-10-13 Thread Mike Chabot
From a previous post I made about problems with cfdump:

>From what I have determined, below are the variable scopes in CFMX 6.1
(I did not analyze var or dynamically named variables, like cfquery
results).

Session, Application, Server, Client, Cookie, Request, Variables,
Form, URL, CGI, Attributes, cffile.

Below are what look like variable scopes, but are actually embedded
inside of the "variables" scope.
Error, cferror, cfhttp, cfstoredproc, cfftp, caller, cfcatch

I hope this helps,
Mike Chabot
