Re: [CnD] Popcorn on the stove
I bought a little microwave popcorn popper from Speak To Me. It comes with a little silicone measure, and I use popcorn that I bought from the store. It makes just enough popcorn for one person. The only negative thing about it is the lid, which doesn't stay on very well. I set the microwave for 3 minutes, and stop the oven when the popping reduces. No need to grease the inside. A quarter cup will make about the same amount as a microwave popcorn bag, so depending on consumption level it can feed one, two or maybe even three. Re: [CnD] Popcorn on the stove
Hi larry. I put a knob of butter into the saucepan and I prefer its flavour to that of oil. Heat the pot to a medium heat then add the corn kernels. When you think all corn is popped, remove it from the heat. Oh and don't forget to put a lid on the saucepan. Lol! someone I knew forgot to do this and had popcorn everywhere. Lol! Re: [CnD] Popcorn on the stove
I have made popcorn on the stove and actually I prefer it over microwave popcorn. I would put oil in the pot and the amount depends on how much of the popcorn you are popping. I always place a top on the pot for obvious reasons. I use a pot with 2 handles and I would hold each handle and move the pot from left to right over the stove and you will hear it pop. Re: [CnD] Popcorn on the stove
I know this isn't what you asked, but a quarter cup of kernels in a brown paper bag (I buy them for this particular purpose) folded over at the top makes great popcorn without all the sketchy fumes microwave popcorn may have. It's a lot cheaper too, as the bags come in a hundred count for under a buck. I put melted butter and spices on the popcorn afterward. Thought you might like an alternative to stove top, as that involves a lot of shaking the pan on the burner. You can pop kernels in the microwave in a brown paper lunch bag. Been a long time since I have done that, but, you need a bag that is all paper and microwave safe. I would just pop it until the popping starts to slow down. -Original Message- From: Cookinginthedark On Behalf Of Larry Gassman via Cookinginthedark Sent: Thursday, April 16, 2020 12:55 PM To: cookinginthedark@acbradio.org Cc: Larry Gassman Subject: [CnD] Popcorn on the stove Hi all, I usually will make popcorn in the microwave. Hi Larry, I've done it with no problem. I just use a large pot. I find it is easier on a stove with an actual burner instead of a flattop stove. I don't recall if it was the Washington Post or the New York Times who had a piece about doing popcorn on the stovetop. It was within the last month. I'll look and see if I saved the article.
