This actually looks very familiar. It happens if the database was once
initialized with a locale that doesn't exist any more. Did you happen
to remove the 'locales' package in your clean-up process? If so,
please install it again. If you really want to run the postmaster in
the default POSIX locale (which I do not recommend, but other people
want it like that), then purge and reinstall postgresql, choose 'C' as
locale and feed back the dump.

BTW, the current etch/sid packages give a much more meaningful error
message.

Thanks,

1.3.0-1 fails to build when using swig 1.3.24-1 (the version in
sarge), after upgrading to 1.3.27-1 from testing it builds fine.

I think Blair Zajac fixed this as part of the patch he submitted in
#347775 - the $(MAKE) -C $(DEB_BUILDDIR) extraclean-swig-headers line
he added. I haven't verified this, but that's certainly what his
comment indicates.

Bug#348656: O: xmailbox -- mail notifier with animation and sound effects

2006-01-18 Thread Marc 'HE' Brockschmidt
Package: wnpp
Severity: normal

Heya,

The maintainer of xmailbox said in #346822 that he wanted to orphan the
package:

Description: mail notifier with animation and sound effects
xmailbox displays an icon which changes when new mail comes in. The
command to check for new mail is freely configurable, so you can even
 check accounts on remote systems.

I've did a QA upload to set the Maintainer field correctly to the QA
group and to do the xlibs-dev transition.

Bug#348597: [Pkg-dia-team] Bug#348597: FTBFS: missing build-dep on libdbus-1-dev

2006-01-18 Thread Roland Stigge
reassign 348597 libgnomevfs2-common
thanks

Hi,

Peter Palfrader wrote:
 Package: dia
 Version: 0.94.0-18
 Severity: serious

It seems there's a build dependency on libdbus-1-dev missing.

Thanks for the note. But dia doesn't directly need libdbus. The library
package is installed on build (and therefore somehow used for linking)
by a new dependency of an indirect dependency. Since the libdbus-dev
package is missing, this fails.

If I figured it out correctly, the respective dependency chain is:

dia
  build-depends on libgnomeui-dev
depends on libgnomevfs2-dev
  depends on libgnomevfs2-common
depends on libdbus-glib-1-2
  depends on libdbus-1-2

Since I see a change in this area (dependencies) in gnome-vfs2, I'm
reassigning this bug. Feel free to reassign around if I'm not totally
correct. (I'm at least sure that it's a recently (1 week or so)
introduced change in a GNOME package with respect to dependencies.)

Thanks,

bye,
  Roland

Bug#348653: libgconf2-4: Apps dependent on gconfd-2 fail if a GNOME 1 app has been started first

2006-01-18 Thread Josselin Mouette
Le mercredi 18 janvier 2006 à 09:06 +, Mike Brodbelt a écrit :
When a GNOME 1 application is started it auto starts a copy of gconfd-1
on behalf of the user who starts the app. If an application that
requires gconfd-2 is subsequently started, the presence of an already
running gconfd-1 process prevents the automatic startup of gconfd-2, and
 the application fails.

Could you please start both applications in a terminal and show us the
output?

The gconfd-2 package shouls override gconfd-1 where it is installed so
that all gconf reliant apps start gconfd-2 in preference. Tagged as
important as it breaks apparently unrelated software on the system,
though it's relatively easy to work around once you realise what's
 happening.

Unfortunately this isn't possible, as gconfd-1 and gconfd-2 are
incompatible. However they should be able to run together.

Bug#348109: Acknowledgement (libgtk2.0-0: after upgrade in unstable, many gui (firefox,gftp,d4x,...) Segmentation fault)

2006-01-18 Thread Joel Soete
Hello Sebastien,

Just to confirm an hypothesis:

fwiw, here at home, I tried exactly the same test (i.e. launch gftp
and gdmsetup from another hppa debian unstable install boxe) without
 any pb???

 Just a thought:
o here at home my X env is a Xfce runing on a i386 debian unstable
  install
o at my office my X env is a hpux-11.00 CDE?

Could it be what makes the difference, though?

I can now confirm.

I have the opportunity to install a graphical screen on the i386 system
(office lab) on which gtk app segv when spoken to hpux CDE.

No pb to start gdm and xfce works nicely.

In this Xfce env, I can launch gftp-gtk and gdmsetup running on the
parisc-linux box.

Any idea how can I debug this gtk pb?

Thanks,
Joel

That's really odd, this file is shipped as a conffile directly in the
.deb, it is not created at runtime. Did you manually remove it at some
point? Did you really purge the package, or did you merely remove it?

I thought I purged it but since I remember deleting
/etc/postgresql-common at least at one time maybe my fault was a missing
purge. Now I tried to reproduce it but failed so I guess everything
works as intended.

Thanks for finding that bug, I fixed it in the development version. I
 will upload version 40 shortly.

Great, thx. Imho shouldn't really make a differnece if there's an empty
user_clusters or none.

Two bugs here:

libavahi-client-dev contains /usr/lib/libavahi-client.la which lists
-ldbus-1 in its dependency_libs field; therefore it ought to depend on
libdbus-1-dev, since this other library is required in order to statically
link against libavahi-client.

And control-center is using a crummy version of libtool that's recursing
over the dependency_libs fields in .la files when doing dynamic linking.
Yet another example of why --as-needed sucks as a solution.

Bug#348558: libtool: No such file or directory when linking 2 .la files with the same name but from different directories

2006-01-18 Thread Ralf Wildenhues
Hi Carlo,

* Carlo Contavalli wrote on Tue, Jan 17, 2006 at 07:04:55PM CET:

 With something like:

   -Wall -export-dynamic -module -avoid-version -rpath /test -o test.la

 I get the error:
 [...]
ar: .libs/test.lax/libtest.a/test1.o: No such file or directory
 make[1]: *** [test.la] Error 1

The error is quite obvious from libtool output:
 [...]

 mkdir .libs/test.lax/libtest.a
 (cd .libs/test.lax/libtest.a ar x /test/lib1/.libs/libtest.a)

 mkdir .libs/test.lax/libtest.a
 (cd .libs/test.lax/libtest.a ar x /test/lib2/.libs/libtest.a)
 [...]

As you can see, the directory libtest.a is first created.
There, lib1/libtest.a is extracted with ar x. Then, since lib2/libtest.a
has the same filename, the directory libtest.a is removed,
and recreated. The final result is that during link time
the file test1.o is missing.. (lib1/libtest.a contains test1.o, while
 lib2/libtest.a contains test2.o).

Thanks for the concise bug report. Two comments: your libtest.la
libraries are convenience archives, so this usage should probably
be accepted. At least ATM I don't know of a system where we can't
make it work. With general libraries, however, using the same name
for two different libraries is simply not portable -- some systems
don't have the means to even specify them correctly on the command
line, some systems simply have a shared library system that does not
allow two libs with the same soname to be loaded in core simultaneously.

It should be a rather easy workaround to simply to rename one of the
libraries; is there a reason this is may be unduly difficult in your
situation?

Cheers,
Ralf

Bug#348641: redir: Options to keep idle connection open with no-data packets.

2006-01-18 Thread Dr. Andreas Krüger
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Package: redir
Version: 2.1-2.1
Severity: wishlist

I am frequently using ssh with -L or -R for port forwarding. The general
setup here includes NAT routers. I have seen problems with connection stability.
Apparently, when no data was transmitted for some time, the NAT router would
forget about the connection, essentially killing it.

I now regularly use ssh options such as

- -o ServerAliveInterval=20 -o ServerAliveCountMax=7

Those helped me out. They cause ssh to regularly transmit no data packets
when the connection would otherwise be idle. In this way, the NAT state of the
connection is kept alive.

I have now set up a connection for my users using redir.

There are reports about connection instabilities. The situation is not easy to
debug, but we may be running into the same kind of problem that I have seen with
ssh.

I suggest that redir is augmented with options similar to the ssh ones.

I understand that it is more difficult for redir to implement this feature than
it was for ssh, as there is a ssh protocol, while redir is forced to speak plain
TCP/IP. But I remember that it is possible, at the TCP/IP level, to send
packets that contain no data, but ask the receiver to acknowledge the pacpacket.
If that recollection is correct, implementing the feature should be possible.

I would like the proposed options to differentiate: It should be possible to
keep the client connection open, the server connection, or both. So two options.
Each option gives the number of seconds of idleness after which a no-data packet
is sent.

As is true in the ssh case, after some number of packets have not been ack'ed,
both parts of the redired connection should shut down. Those numbers should be
configurable, again separately for client and server. So two more options, four
in all.

Regards, and thank you for providing fine software

Andreas Krüger

Severity: grave, because amd64 is a release architecture.

Jari, if you have packages for 1.1 available, I might be able to sponsor an
  upload of them for you.

I have. I've already sent message to Mac if he can test the new
release under amd. If you can help as well, the packages can be
 downloaded from

   http://cante.net/~jaalto/tmp/debian/jwm

Thank for offering the upload (and possible testing).

Some changes:

- The package is a native package (no .orig.tar.gz). Please change it to
  non-native.
- You are closing bug #327013 in the changelog, but you say this is *not*
the version which fixes it; please don't do this. Close the bug using the
  BTS mail interface instead.
- You have duplicate build-dependencies on libx11-dev. You may also
(looking at the diff) be missing a build-dependency on libpng-dev?
- The trunk/ directory contains a complete second copy of the sources, which
almost certainly shouldn't be there; I'm assuming this isn't present in
  the upstream tarball.
- The package does not build from source because debian/rules calls make,
not make all, and the first (i.e., default) rule in the Makefile is
  *not* all -- it's dput-local.

If you address these issues, I should be able to upload for you. I was able
to reproduce the original bug on alpha with 0.23-3, and the bug does not
occur with jwm 1.1-1.

Also, I see that you're build-depending on libxt-dev; it should be trivial
to remove the need for libxt-dev just by re-running autoconf on the source
package before building, so please consider this alternative.

Ah, there was this discussion.

 gives one possibility:

 \def\tmpfile{/tmp/w18-test-\the\year\the\month\the\day\the\time}
 \immediate\write18{touch \tmpfile}
 \IfFileExists{\tmpfile}{\message{YES}}{\message{NO}}

but one should really check \tmpfile didnt exist before the 'touch',
and maybe get rid of \tmpfile afterwards (which has possible security
 risks i suppose).

Indeed, it's an unsave way to create a temporary file. An it has /tmp
hardcoded in it. I am quite sure that Heiko won't add something like
this to epstopdf.sty.

produced a binary package with expected debdiff output from the most
recent version in sid. Build logs and debdiff output are attached.

Please note that maintainer uploads are preferred to NMUs! If you are
able to upload, then please do so.

Sorry, I have been neglecting this package as I am still trying to find FM
tuner hardware I can use on my system (I no longer have ISA slots for my old

I will try to upload in the next day or two, if I don't you're welcome to NMU.

Bug#348655: ITP: ipfilter -- Stateful and packet based IP network firewall

2006-01-18 Thread Steve King
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: Steve King [EMAIL PROTECTED]

* Package name: ipfilter
  Version : 4.1.10
Upstream Author : Darren Reed darrenr (at) pobox (dot) com
* URL : http://coombs.anu.edu.au/~avalon/ip_fil4.1.10.tar.gz
* License : BSD
Description : Stateful and packet based IP network firewall

ipfilter is a similar tool to ipchains/netfilter, and is not intended
as a replacement.

It provides sophisiticated stateful filtering, which is more intelligent
than netfilter, but lacks some of the other functions.

ipfilter's main strength is that it is portable across many UNIX and
UNIX-like systems. Thus you can use ipfilters on your Solaris,
Net/Free/OpenBSD, IRIX, HPUX and Linux boxen. It is also installed
as the default firewall on some of these systems.

Unfortunately, it does require a kernel module to function.

 Hi,

Since xorg 6.9.0, dead_circumflex is no more a dead key (i.e pressing ^
 then e will print ^e instead of ê) and dead_diaeresis doesn't work
 anymore.

It works for me.
Can you please run xev as described in

and tell us what is displayed when you press this key?

Please allow output on stdout, e.g. via -o -. This will make it
easier to use u2ps as a print spooler filter, inter alia.

You can print to stdout doing:

  u2ps --output=/dev/stdout $FILE

That usually works on all programs when -o - does not.

Anyway, if you really feel that -o - is needed tell it and I'll forward the
bug upstream.

Greetings,

  Sergio.

Bug#348653: libgconf2-4: Apps dependent on gconfd-2 fail if a GNOME 1 app has been started first

2006-01-18 Thread Mike Brodbelt
Package: libgconf2-4
Version: 2.12.1-8
Severity: important

When a GNOME 1 application is started it auto starts a copy of gconfd-1
on behalf of the user who starts the app. If an application that
requires gconfd-2 is subsequently started, the presence of an already
running gconfd-1 process prevents the automatic startup of gconfd-2, and
the application fails.

Example - my desktop uses Enlightenment as a WM. Starting Evolution
after login succeeds as expected, and starts a gconfd-2 process.
However, if I start GNUCash after login, a gconfd-1 process is started,
and a subsequent attempt to start Evolution produces 3 successive error
dialog boxes. The first telle me that an error occurred accessing config
information for Evolution, the second tells me Evolution has crashed,
and the third tells me an error occurred accessing config data for
gnome_segv, which was started in response to the Evolution crash.

As the copy of gconfd-1 persists after the invoking app (GNUCash in this
case) was closed, this breaks gconfd-2 dependent applications for the
remainder of the session, or until the user manually kills gconfd-1.
Starting GNUCash after Evolution works correctly, as it is able to use
a running gconfd-2 process.

The gconfd-2 package shouls override gconfd-1 where it is installed so
that all gconf reliant apps start gconfd-2 in preference. Tagged as
important as it breaks apparently unrelated software on the system,
though it's relatively easy to work around once you realise what's
happening.

After installing libdbus-1-dev it builds (on my desktop, maybe there are
build builddeps missing that I just happened to have installed).

The real problem is that dia is using a crummy version of libtool that looks
at dependency_libs fields in .la files when it shouldn't. See #348525 for
more comments on this.

Having dia build-depend on libdbus-1-dev is a bad answer.

Bug#348663: Fresh install does not start cron.d configs

2006-01-18 Thread MeDon
Package: cron
Version: 3.0pl1-86
Severity: minor

Hi,

I have a fresh instalation of Sarge from CD. I put my config into
/etc/cron.d/ but the command is not started in the configured time.
'/etc/init.d/cron reload' does not help, I have to do '/etc/init.d/cron
restart', then the cron works as exptected.

Maybe the problem is in the time zone change. Preseeds of base-config are
set to:

base-config tzconfig/gmt boolean false
base-config tzconfig/preseed_zonestring Europe/Prague

Cheers

Bug#348653: libgconf2-4: Apps dependent on gconfd-2 fail if a GNOME 1 app has been started first

2006-01-18 Thread Mike Brodbelt
On Wed, 2006-01-18 at 10:21 +0100, Josselin Mouette wrote:

GNUCash generates no terminal output (until it starts it's graph layout
engine, but that's irrelevant here), but Evolution shows the following:-

(evolution:9075): camel-WARNING **: camel_exception_get_id called with
NULL parameter.

gtkhtml-ERROR **: gconf error: Configuration server couldn't be
contacted: CORBA error: IDL:omg.org/CORBA/BAD_OPERATION:1.0

aborting...

This is if a gconfd-1 process is running when Evolution is started.

When I was trying to track down what was happening here I tried to run
both gconfd-1 and gconfd-2 together, but attempting to start gconfd-2
directly from a terminal fails if there's a running gconfd-1 already
present. It doesn't generate any error messages, but after the prompt
returns there is no gconfd-2 process. From running strace on the startup
attempt I think this is due to contention for the orbit directory
under /tmp, but I'm not certain.

Mike

Bug#348664: busybox: consider CONFIG_NFSMOUNT

2006-01-18 Thread Peter Samuelson

Package: busybox-udeb
Version: 1:1.01-4
Severity: wishlist

I had a desire tonight to mount an NFS volume from inside
debian-installer. This doesn't seem unreasonable or unusual to me, so
could you consider enabling CONFIG_NFSMOUNT in config-udeb-linux?
Note, I haven't actually verified that this alone would allow me to
mount an NFS volume from d-i - possibly there are other limitations of
the environment to prevent this - but at the least it's a start.

Bug#348665: Debian-Installer etch beta 1 - i386: cdrom drive not detected

2006-01-18 Thread Olivier RICHE

Package: cdrom
version : debian-installer etch beta 1

I would like to report a bug with the debian-installer etch beta 1
while installing the kernel 2.6.12 for i386

If this is not the proper place to report that bug, thanks for telling
me where to report it.

the target hardware is Sun Cobalt LX50 with ide cdrom

When installing debian testing using the netinst CD
(debian-testing-i386-netinst.iso), after choosing the language and
keyboard layout, the installer is trying to detect hardware to find
cdrom (loading module AIC7XXX : for a long time)

Then I get an error message
= = = = =
Detect and mount CDROM
Error while running 'modprobe -v ide-generic'
No CDROM drive was detected
= = = = =

if I change terminal and type 'ls /dev'
there is no trace of /dev/cdrom or /dev/hda

On another identical Sun hardware running sarge with kernel 2.6.8, the
cdrom is /dev/cdrom -/dev/hda

The workaround I found was to first install etch with a 2.4 kernel then
the cdrom is detected ok. After installation is complete, I upgraded to
the 2.6.12 kernel with aptitude.

If any futher tests are needed, I will be happy to help.

Bug#348666: rxvt-unicode: default font lost with upgrade ?

2006-01-18 Thread Pascal A. Dupuis
Package: rxvt-unicode
Version: 7.0-1
Severity: normal

Hello,

after upgrading to the latest version, I got the following message while
launching urxvt:
no default fontset - specify one with -fn

I had a few ressources about xterm and utf-8 font. Looking into
/etc/X11/app-defaults/URxvt,
I noticed that URxvt.font is commented out. So I suppose the 'default'
behaviour changed somewhere ? Either stopping using xterm ressources, either
in app-defaults/URxvt ?

BTW, I think the right way is to specify the default font in URxvt:
'-misc-fixed-medium-r-semicondensed--13-120-75-75-c-60-iso10646-1',
then override it with the user xressource, if any.

Indeed, it's an unsave way to create a temporary file. An it has /tmp

 this to epstopdf.sty.

So instead it should be a static warning message, shouldn't it?

 It doesn't work for vim.full nor vim.basic.

Could you please give us the output of ls -l /usr/bin/vim*? I fear
there went something wrong when upgrading the package from a version

Bug#345604: ConTeXt documentation in commercial products

2006-01-18 Thread Frank Küster
Hello Hans, hello texlive list,

please take my apologies for bringing this up, but it seems I need to.
According to mreadme.pdf, the documentation is under a different license
than the code, with a currently attached to that statement.
Unfortunately, the license chosen for the documentation does not allow
inclusion in TeXLive (and Debian, hence the other Cc).

The problem is the prohibition to use it for commercial purposes. This
is explained later as

,
| The non--commercial part is mostly a safeguard. We don't mind if user
| groups distribute printed copies, publish (parts of) manuals and/or if
| authors use example code in manuals and books about ConTEXt.
`

However, if a bookshop like Lehmann's in Germany creates TeXLive (or
Debian) CD-ROMs and sells them, this is commercial use - even if the
price is hardly more than the production costs, and even if DANTE, the
german user group, gets a bunch of them for free. After all, the
purpose is to bring customers into the bookshop in the hope they also
buy something else.

On the other hand, I understand that Pragma wants to prevent anyone from
printing and selling a book or booklet with the documentation. But I
assume that it would be possible to do this without such restrictions.

What do you think?

As for a practical solution, maybe simply using the GPL for the
documentation would maybe already do the trick, since the publisher
would have to provide the source code on the same medium, i.e. written.
I assume it's even possible to declare that the rights granted by the
GPL do not apply to print, or more specifically, to state that the
copyright holder grants and restricts the same rights for any digital
representation (like a PDF file) that the GPL gives for object code,
but not for any printed representation which isn't covered by the GPL,
anyway.

umount.cifs is missing from the smbfs package, so users wouldn't be able
to unmount shares even if mount.cifs is made suid root.

I find it quite ironic that umount.cifs.8 was added to the smbfs package
in version 3.0.21a-1, but umount.cifs itself wasn't...

So please take out this '@' from in front of 'fsockopen', and get us an
error message we can use. Or get us something from a PHP log file that
shows what error fsockopen is throwing.

I'm sorry, I didn't know that. Anyhow, this is w/o the '@', when running
'php xxx.php' from the commandline:

  Warning: fsockopen(): php_stream_sock_ssl_activate_with_method: failed

Warning: fsockopen(): failed to activate SSL mode 2 in

In the meantime, I'm going to assume this is caused by 338006, like most
 current ssl problems.

Both systems have 'openssl/testing uptodate 0.9.8a-5', so that might be
the cause.

OK, i.e., we should just follow
http://people.debian.org/~keybuk/libtool-updating.html ?

I can do this if it turns out to be the right solution here.

Thanks.

bye,
  Roland

Bug#348602: kaffeine-xine : not a bug

2006-01-18 Thread Grégoire Druant
Hi,

I'm sorry, after investigation I foud out where the problem comes from :
It doesn't come from kaffeine but alsa.

I have set xine-engine to play the sound in 4 channels, and my alsa
configuration doesn't support more than two channels anymore (I don't
know why) so kaffeine says the audio device is busy.

After setting kaffeine to stereo 2.0, it plays the video and audio.
And for the video with crappy sound, the one I have for the moment has
a crappy sound with every video player, so it's a bad exemple :-( .

I'm sorry again, I should have done a little more checks before reporting.

Regards

 Hello,
please test your packages before publishing them.

instead of bitching on the work of *many* persons (at least 3 different
persons have checked that package before the upload, which makes 2 more
than a lot of ones in debian),

please just verify that your /etc/vimrc is up to date : verify that the
one in the package has been merged, and is not stayed
under /etc/vim/vimrc.dpkg-new.

if yes, please close that bug, and fix that yourself (and/or open a bug

If not, we should check if upgrading from sarge to unstable vim works
as expected, especially the diversions - alternatives conversion.

I saw a problem yesterday, upgrading from a vim backport to a newer
version of the vim backport, and /usr/bin/vim was still diverted after
the upgrade, which ends up /usr/bin/vim to be vim 6.3.x instead 6.4,
with the same result, enabling syntax hilighting failed, because the
runtimepath was wrong (displayed to runtime files from vim 6.4, but
6.3 was running).

Bug#348677: xlibs: AltGr no more works with swiss (fr_CH) keyboard

2006-01-18 Thread Latévi Max LAWSON DAKU
Package: xlibs
Version: 6.9.0.dfsg.1-4
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable
Tags: l10n

*** Please type your report below this line ***

After upgrades to 6.9.x xorg series, the AltGr key stops
working, thus making mostly unusable my swiss (fr_CH)
keyboard. This key actually functions as an AltR key.

This comes from the xlibs packages. As a workaround,
I keep using the old xlibs=6.8.2.dfsg.1-11 package.

Best regards

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
 that package should be filed.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
   libcal3d11c2a: Depends: libgcc1 (= 1:4.1) but 1:4.0.2-7 is to be installed
 E: Broken packages

Thanks for you report.

This bug was fixed in 0.10.0-6 and afaik only existed in 0.10.0-5, not
0.10.0-4. But I may be wrong.

This is a problem with gamin. The usual workaround is to `pkill

This big issue here is, like Dan Woodard said, that:

While having a mail program is useful, it is hard to see why it should be
essential for a database. Surely it is more robust simply to log errors or
problems in a log file rather than to try to email them? My suggestion would
 be to allow
mysql-server to be or remain installed without mailx so that the MTA could be
changed without removing mysql-server.

Par does not handle UTF-8 multibyte characters properly. To introduce
this problem I made UTF-8 encoded text file of nonsense Finnish text

I am not maintaining par (yet) but just trying to help out :)

I have not been able to find any program that does UTF-8 multibyte
character left and right justification for text files. If you can
point me to some source where I can find information on how this can
be handled then perhaps I can try to figure out a patch to fix this.

Meanwhile, the upstream source for par has not changed in a while so
probably such a fix will have to be made for the Debian version only.

According to the release notes par is OK with 8-bit characters but
not multibyte so this is not a bug in the program vis-a-vis its
documentation. Would it be OK with you if this bug was downgraded to
wishlist?

Bug#348680: Theme path issue when using gtk_file_chooser_new_with_backend()

Package: libgtk2.0-0
Version: 2.8.10-1
Severity: normal

Hello,

First let me say, that I think, it's a bug inside the GTK package, but
I'm not sure. The following problem occurs: When using
gtk_file_chooser_dialog_new_with_backend() in a program under e.g.
XFCE4, Fluxbox or KDE (nor GNOME), the theme path search seems to be
wrong: Instead of searching for gnome/index.theme, it searches for
GNOME/index.theme and because it cannot be found, it falls back to the
hicolor theme, so the FileChooser-Dialog does not contain any icons. But
when using gtk_file_chooser_dialog_new(), it searches gnome/index.theme
independent from the environment and the icons are available. Could this
be a bug in GTK?

Regards, Daniel

Correct.

This is complete bullshit.

I am happy about having a catalan layout (in fact, I'm pursuing some
minor changes to the es layout to bring the L MIDDLE DOT character to it
by default), but not some random layout which apparently has been
created with no input from the Catalan community.

Robert, have you tried this keyboard? Is it actually usable? It has
little to do with what the vast majority of Catalans are using today,
and the learning curve would be big enough that I really doubt this will
be broadly picked up.

If there has to be a Catalan keyboard, it should be designed by people
who actually are going to use them. Looking at the keymap I see pretty
severe flaws in it -- do Catalan users write Spanish characters, ever? I
think they do. How do I type a á or a ñ?

Christian, my opinion is that ca_IT (I haven't submitted this locale)
and ca_FR users should be using either Italian or French.

Contrary to what Robert says, Italian or French Catalan-speakers are
*unlikely* to have this Catalan keyboard.

Are you sure? As far as I know, the uninstallable problem is bug
#345148, fixed with my NMU. It is installable in unstable.

I did not address #339254 in my NMU, because I got the impression that
the qgis maintainer did not consider it a bug because the library is
  an internal library to qgis.

Of course the new qgis package will not make it into testing before
bug #339254 is closed or have its severity lowered, but I believe the
maintainer and the release managers are the right people to address
  that issue.

I asked the release team to BinNMU qgis for bug #339254. After
discussion with Steve Langasek I decided that qgis needs to split
libqgis0 out into a separate package to conform to policy. I've done
this and sent the package to my sponsor some days ago. It will have to
go through the NEW queue, so it will be some time before it's in testing
again. I don't think you'll have a problem installing qgis from unstable
using apt pinning right now though.

Any word from your sponsor yet? If not, is this fixed source package
available for download somewhere?

Cheers,

Bug#348407: pine: security hole in imap support

Santiago Vila wrote:
How exactly this is dangerous in *pine*? (not in the IMAP server)

The problem is that we have another case of an embedded code copy,
something we should get rid of for Etch for as many packages as
possible.

You gain access to the system if you are running pine? That would be a normal
bug, IMHO, and therefore not the kind of bug that would deserve a report
 of grave severity.

In either case, non-free sucks, and pine sucks even more. Since we
don't distribute any .debs, apt-get upgrade will not magically fix
anything. If I had to deal with this, I would tell users just to use
the version in testing/unstable, which builds fine on stable, as
they would have to build the new version themselves anyway.

I'm Cc:ing the security team for their opinion.

pine embeds a copy of some general purpose code of uw-imap. The function
mail_valid_net_parse_work(), which may trigger the overflow, is used in
the normal pine source, so the buffer overflow may very well be exploitable
with crafted mails, I haven't checked that in detail and frankly I'm not
interested in non-free to spend further time on this.

Bug#343140: resolver uses the search list before other address families

Hi !

Maybe the severity of this bug could be increased ? After losing my internet
connexion, application servers became unusable because of long delays caused by
IPv6 DNS queries, which in turn were forwarded to the non-existing 'forwarders'
by bind.

At least is there a way for bind9 to stop forwarding ipv6 queries to the
forwarders ?

Hello,

Could you please give us the output of ls -l /usr/bin/vim*? I fear
there went something wrong when upgrading the package from a version

Hello,

please just verify that your /etc/vimrc is up to date : verify that
the one in the package has been merged, and is not stayed under
/etc/vim/vimrc.dpkg-new. if yes, please close that bug, and fix that
yourself (and/or open a bug on dpkg which is here the one responsible)

that was it:

thank you for your immediate response.

Can you please send us the exact output?

Couldn't open system-wide default config file texdocrc.
Segmentation fault

This of course only appears if I run it in an xterm. If I run it from
the menu, it silently fails.

  I've tried removing then reinstalling,

I speculate that there is no file /etc/texdoctk/texdocrc. Since this
file is a conffile, removing and reinstalling won't restore it; instead
you need to purge and reinstall.

apt-get remove --purge tetex-doc

E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

Do you have an idea why the file was removed?

That file? No, I didn't remove it. I removed some other files due to a
message I read on google when I was trying to figure out how to fix it.
That could be what's preventing me from removing it now.

Bug#316297: dependency on mailx causes removal of mysql-server when MTA is changed

2006-01-18 Thread Marcos Marado
First of all, sorry for the previous e-mails: I had some problems with
my e-mail client... :-(

Christian Hammers wrote:

Those bugs were tagged unreproducible and were waiting for more user
input for too long, are for an experimental version or are change
requests specific to MySQL 4.0 which will vanish soon (and cannot get
 into Sarge). Closing them therefore.

This particular bug isn't unreproducible, isn't for an experimental
version and isn't about 4.0 but all versions of MySQL, including 4.1
and 5.0.

The big issue on this bug is one that has been being discussed lot's of
times on the mailing lists and forums, which is, as Dan Woodard wrote:

While having a mail program is useful, it is hard to see why it
should be essential for a database. Surely it is more robust simply
to log errors or problems in a log file rather than to try to email
them? My suggestion would be to allow mysql-server to be or remain
installed without mailx so that the MTA could be changed without
 removing mysql-server.

Or, in other words, Debian should follow the steps of several other
distros on this issue, and mysql-server should NOT depend on mailx since
it isn't needed for the server to run, and because lot's of people will
want mysql-server in a server without having a MTA.

Christian Hammers also wrote:

mailx can be expected to be able to be present there's no reason to
workaround this (other packages would probably stumble over this, too)

but I don't see how mailx is expected to be present and other
packages probably do the samejustifies mysql-server's dependency on
mailx. It should be a recommended package, but not a necessary one.

Best regards,

Description : Functions for managing FastCGI applications.

FCGI::ProcManager is used to serve as a FastCGI process manager. By
re-implementing it in perl, developers can more finely tune performance in
their web applications, and can take advantage of copy-on-write semantics
prevalent in UNIX kernel process management. The process manager should
be invoked before the caller''s request loop
 .
The primary routine, pm_manage, enters a loop in which it maintains a
number of FastCGI servers (via fork(2)), and which reaps those servers
 when they die (via wait(2)).

The server log doesn't show the option being used. Have you really
restarted the server since you added the option to xorg.conf? The log
file looks as though you may have only reset the server instead of
restarting it (the default with most display managers when logging out
of a session).

Bug#346298: split bug?

2006-01-18 Thread Robert Millan

Hi!

Please note that regardless on what you do for ca_FR and ca_IT, I'm mostly
concerned about the first patch, which adds support for the keyboard in
question.

If you don't want the second patch, then please just apply the first one. We
can also split this bug in two separate ones if you find that appropiate.

Thanks

group; patch attached. My pbuild result of this patch was clean, and
produced a binary package with expected debdiff output from the most
recent version in sid. Build logs and debdiff output are attached.

Please note that maintainer uploads are preferred to NMUs! If you are
able to upload, then please do so.

Looks good to me. Thanks. I'm swamped with other responsibilities, and
appreciate the help.

Bug#348658: quotatool cannot find version 2 quota file

Hi Jaap!

You wrote:

According to the manpage, quotatool does support old and new style linux

filenames aquota.{user,group}. When I symlink quota.user to these,
 everything works fine.

Hmm, that's kind of weird. Quotatool doesn't use those file correctly,
but simply talks to the kernel through the quotactl (2) call, which only
takes the device name as input. I therefore suspect that something is
wrong either in your kernel or in your libc.

If not, we should check if upgrading from sarge to unstable vim works
as expected, especially the diversions - alternatives conversion.

I saw a problem yesterday, upgrading from a vim backport to a newer
version of the vim backport, and /usr/bin/vim was still diverted
after the upgrade, which ends up /usr/bin/vim to be vim 6.3.x instead
6.4, with the same result, enabling syntax hilighting failed, because
the runtimepath was wrong (displayed to runtime files from vim 6.4,
 but 6.3 was running).

obviously this has to be checked... Though, the current vimrc merge
seems to be due to dpkg ?! This was spotted by one of our users
earlier, and that's why I suggested that.

We have two major answer here :

* remove /usr/share/vim/vim?? in the runtime list, using the recently
added vimcurrent symlink -- that has been done

* use ucf to manage /etc/vim/*rc files, so that our changes to the
runtime line (that the user is quite unlikely to change, whereas he
has all the reason in the world to change the ` syntax on' line e.g.

I use ucf on some of my packages after having to many troubles with
users that modified (legitimately) some config files, and didn't
checked the change I did in the next version of the package. I've then
used ucf, and my change just are merged into the user's 99% of the
time, and I've received no bug related to config files so far.

COMSAT in this section can be set to 'yes' or 'y' or blank as previously

reads as follows:

procmail: Match on ^X-Original-To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
procmail: Assigning COMSAT=yes

procmail: Assigning LASTFOLDER=/var/mail/thomas

procmail: Acquiring kernel-lock
procmail: Unlocking /var/mail/thomas.lock

This has happened since the recent upgrades this month.

I don't know where you got the idea that COMSAT= is acceptable.
This is what the manual says:

When assigning boolean values to variables like VERBOSE, DELIVERED or
COMSAT, procmail accepts as true every string starting with: a non-zero
value, `on', `y', `t' or `e'. False is every string starting with: a
  zero value, `off', `n', `f' or `d'.

My reading of this is that the behaviour of COMSAT= is undefined and
you should not rely on it. Please use yes or no, or anything which is
properly documented.
