Thanks a lot for that fix.

 See http://forum.openvz.org/index.php?t=msggoto=1422; ... at the

behavior between versions of arp used by different distributions.

I am still running Etch on i386.

Ok.

I'll try to upload a new version shortly.

I've just remove at-spi, and xchat still works fine,

I'm confused, because previously, it always crashed,
even if I --purged the xchat and xchat-common, and
removed the .xchat2 directory.
Only after checking the error message, and installed
at-spi, did xchat not crash (all from debian servers),
so I imediatelly assumed the package was the reason
(plus, it didn't give the error anymore).

I don't know now what was the problem. Sorry, in the

Bug#382001: Location bar can be spoofed

2006-08-14 Thread Florian Weimer
* Eric Dorland:

I'm not entirely understanding the spoof part of the attack. The
address bar has been hideable by popups since the Netscape 4 days, is
 this actually a problem?

It's become a problem recently because with the advent of the yellow
location bar, users use it to recognize secure sites (like it or not).
If the real location bar can be hidden, you can easily supply your
own, in any color you want.

It can impersonate two different browser: Internet Explorer

Is there a real benefit over lynx -dump -head and similar things ?

Yes, but this is about the database that is created by sqlite, not the
include file. Maybe we should have the same set of variables for any
backend that creates a database file on the local filesystem, that
performs the same chown / chmod like with the include file.

New packages at
http://www.mattb.net.nz/debian/dists/sid/main/source/admin/ now have two
variables dbc_owner and dbc_perms modeled off the dbc_generate_include_
versions to allow you to hint at the desired settings.

Let me know how it goes.

Bug#382914: Usermount does not work for a non-root user

2006-08-14 Thread Miguel Quirós Olozábal
Package: usermode
Version: 1.81-3

After upgrading to debian-etch, when I try to start
the program usermount for a non-root user, I just get the message:
There are no filesystems which you are allowed to mount or unmount.
Contact your administrator.

The message is wrong, since there are several lines in /etc/fstab with
the user option in them and the corresponding filesystems (floppy,
cdrom, usb memories, ...) can be mounted with no problems by non-root
users either from the console or from the multiload applet of
gnome-panel. On the other hand, usermount seems to work OK if executed
by root.

I do not know if this is a bug or perhaps I have something
misconfigurated somewhere (I do not think so, since the filesystem can
be mounted if usermount is not used). Usermode Debian package installed
is 1.81-3. A copy of /etc/fstab follows:

Bug#382920: messages Xlib: unexpected async reply from allegro

2006-08-14 Thread Emmanuel Anne
Package: liballegro4.2
Version: 2:4.2.0-5

Allegro gives this message randomly when launching a program using its
gui features (like raine : http://www.rainemu.com/) :
Xlib: unexpected async reply

Well apparently this message is because of Xlib calls made from
different threads. The errors happens when launching the program, even
before the X11 window appears, but it doesn't happen all the time (I'd
say maybe 1 time on 3 launches ? - rather often).
Once you get this message, the program is frozen, and you have to kill
it with Ctrl-C.

The bug DOES NOT happen with allegro-4.2.0 vanilla from
http://alleg.sf.net/, so it's probably linked to 1 of the debian
patches (I suspect the one about geting rid of libunshareable.a, but I
didn't check it).

Bug#382921: cdcat: / in archive name prevents archive selection

2006-08-14 Thread Andrew Schulman
Package: cdcat
Version: 1.01b-1
Severity: normal

If a medium name contains a slash character, then the medium can't
be selected (by single-clicking on its name in the left pane).
Selection would allow us to see the medium's contents in the right
pane.

One can still double-click on the medium name to expand its contents.
This shows the folders contained in the medium. However, none of
those folders can be selected either.

I haven't tried this with any other special characters.

Bug#364712: enter file name in filebrowser?

2006-08-14 Thread Harald Dunkel
I am not sure about which file chooser this is. Surely I am no
specialist for Gtk.

My wish would be to get something like the file selector for Thunderbird's
Save Message As (^S), but with Browse for other folders expanded. The
important thing would be to enter the file name using the keyboard or
copy-and-paste.

Using Google I found this:

http://members.chello.nl/~h.lai/gtkenhancements/filesel-new.png

This looks nice, doesn't it? And I can use the keyboard. But even Gtk's
old file selector, e.g.

http://members.chello.nl/~h.lai/gtkenhancements/filesel-old.png

looks different to Thunderbird's.

Harri

Bug#381677: initramfs-tools: Temporary files and initramfs world-readable

i like the initramfs-tools initrd.img to be debuggable as
user (quick check of their contents).

also loop-aes is quite a specific use case,
so i'm not in big favour of setting the umask in general
to the proposed value as in general there is no gpg key
 in the initramfs.

Let's do it optionally then. New patch attached.

Bug#382296: So? Shall we wait until we break the world record of identical bug reports?

2006-08-14 Thread Peter Eisentraut
Am Montag, 14. August 2006 02:44 schrieb Steve Langasek:
However, there are cases in which we cannot reliably edit a user's smb.conf
file, if it makes use of certain features. There is already a debconf
question for this; I'm going to move this code for removing 'guest' into
the corresponding block of the postinst.

Good point. I missed that.

Yes, there is: sed -i is not an atomic file replacement, so there is a
window during which a failure (kernel panic, power outage, filesystem
error...) would cause the user's smb.conf to be lost.

I can't follow that. I traced the sed source code, and it seems that sed -i
always writes to a temp file and then renames the temp file to the original
file name. It is also careful to create the temporary file in the same
directory as the file to be edited, so the rename should be atomic and there
is no window for losing the original file.

I don't see any reason he wouldn't take a patch for both these
things. Having temp files 0600 wouldn't hurt, so we could have he
patch do it always. As for the initrd.img-$foo file, ... any reason
not to also always do it?

I can't think of reasons against it. We should talk with
Maximillian Attems what he thinks can be done.

I've had a quick look at the available hooks today. (...) And it'd
be nicer of course if there was support directly in
 initramfs-tools.

At the start of mkinitramfs umask is initialized to 0022.

I've filed a bug to ask it to be initialised to 0077. Simplest,
 easiest.

OK, he's reluctant to have it done unconditionally, so I made it a
configuration option. Here is the loop-aes-utils side of that
(untested, roughly done), assuming he takes my second patch.

The question is, do we want to do it unconditionally when
loop-aes-utils is installed? Should we rather duplicate (or move) the
logic checking for is the root on encrypted root? to
/etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/loopaes?

Bug#382937: konqueror: Wrong thumbnails with image.gif and image.jpg (same names!)

2006-08-14 Thread Eeltje de Vries
Package: konqueror
Version: 4:3.5.3-2
Severity: important

When you generate a gallery with two images that differ only in the
extension the two thumbnails are the same: there is only a thumbnail of
one of the images. If the proportions of the two original images are
different one of the thumbnails is shown distorted.

For example: take two images photo.gif and photo.jpg (the images have to
be really different) and generate a gallery.

Bug#377651: closed by Christian Hammers [EMAIL PROTECTED] (Bug#377651: fixed in mysql-dfsg-5.0 5.0.22-4)

2006-08-14 Thread Martin Gruner
Hi,

thanks for taking the time to fix the bug forked from apache2 that I
originially reported.

The init numbers for mysql-server is now 19 for both start and stop.
For the stop procedure, I`d suggest that the number be higher, so that
the mysql server is stopped later than applications using it. If e.g.
some apps depending on it start and stop on the default, 20, they will
be stopped _after_ mysql, which could cause problems. That was my
original report about apache2, which is still valid, because apache2`s
stop number is entirely wrong (stopped after the log daemons!).

Please consider changing mysql`s stop priority again, to 21 or so.

Thanks,

Martin

Bug#382938: cyrus.conf doesn't reflect IMAP IDLE option

2006-08-14 Thread Alexander Turcic

Package: cyrus-imapd-2.2
Version: 2.2.13-6
Severity: minor

Since cyrus-imapd-2.2.13-5 we support a configurable idle option in
imapd.conf. This should also be reflected in cyrus.conf, which still
states that IMAP IDLE is not enabled in Debian builds.

In addition, it should probably be noted in imapd.conf that idlemethod
idled requires changes in cyrus.conf.

The XMMS package is suffering problems on amd64 due to a libtool problem.
Bug #380318 is being caused by libtool not having EGREP defined anywhere
meaningful. EGREP's already searched for, and included in the Makefiles,
but it isn't being exported as an environment variable or passed to libtool
 in any other way.

As you can see, for most Debian systems, it isn't using the file_magic check,
which is what is requiring the EGREP environment variable to exist.

I would like to see a complete build log, and the original package this
is happening with. Please point me to one. I cannot see how this
should happen with upstream Libtool.

Installing texlive-pictures solves this. Should texlive-latex-recommended
 depend on it then?

That's one possibility. A recommends or suggests would probably be
enough, though. After all its only one small component of texlive-latex-
recommended that cannot be used without texlive-pictures. Another option
would be to remove beamer and pgf from the texlive-* packages and
depend/recomend/suggest the separate pgf and latex-beamer packages.

automagicly picks 2.0 as profile when building an application using
 nant. And boo uses nant.

So either boo should override the profile using -t:mono-1.0 or nant
should be fixed/patches to not use the 2.0 profile by default.

Thanks for the info. I think I just do the former, and perhaps
mail the nant maintainer to see what he thinks about the later.

Bug#382942: logcheck/ignore should reflect increased log activity for lmtp

2006-08-14 Thread Alexander Turcic

Package: cyrus-imapd-2.2
Version: 2.2.13-6
Severity: minor

Since cyrus-imapd-2.2.13-5 the verbose logging level of lmtp seems to
have been increased. Example log of incoming mail:

Aug 14 10:28:34 mailserver cyrus/lmtpunix[8725]: Delivered:
[EMAIL PROTECTED] to mailbox:
turcic.com!user.alexander.spam

Individual incoming mail has not been logged before by default. If you
want to keep this level of verbosity (can it be turned off?), you should
add it to the ignore list of /etc/logcheck/ignore.d.server/cyrus2_2.

2006-08-14 Thread Nathanael Nerode
Package: ftp.debian.org
Severity: normal

Orphaned 16 June of this year.
Last upload January 2004.
4 RC bugs.
8 popcon installs (and votes).
Already not present in 'testing' when sarge released.

It is fairly up-to-date w.r.t. upstream, and it has had some Debian packaging
work
done since the version in woody; those are the counter-indications.

Bug#382700: CLR 1.1 vs 2.0 mess

2006-08-14 Thread Sam Clegg
On Sat, Aug 12, 2006 at 08:47:55PM +0200, Mirco Bauer wrote:
first I thought the compiler is broken, but then I saw CLR v2.0 which

I installed libmono2.0-cil which pulls the base CLR 2.0 packages in, and
then booc didn't fail with that error, but with another saying the libs
are not found. They libs are installed though, but since boo uses now
CLR 2.0 it wants the 2.0 version of those libs (instead of 1.1 as
 before).

So I installed the 2.0 versions, and the build was happy, but I am not.

The resulting package depends on on the 2.0 runtime of Mono, because the
compiler linked it against 2.0 instead of 1.1
Unluckily this is a problem now.

I could add now the 2.0 stuff to monodevelop build deps but that is not
fixing the cause. Boo must be able to link against 1.1 or 2.0 somehow,
else all resulting libs or apps require 2.0 from now on.

C# solved this by having mcs (C# 1.0) which links against CLR 1.1 and
gmcs (C# 2.0) which links against CLR 2.0

Also I noticed that boo is not correctly fetching the binary
dependencies with dh_clideps, but I guess that must be some CDBS problem
since no other package has the problem. Probably is the make target too
early or too late or something. Then you would not need to manually
depend on mono (which is btw a bad idea since its a meta-package with 2
 real deps).

Well, to be honest, I only switched to gmcs (and therefore 2.0)
because it seemed to be the default way for nant to build boo.
I had a bug where nant failed to find gmcs. If you think its not
a good time to be switching to 2.0 i'll look at ways of switching
back or providing 2 version of boo, one built against 1.1 and
other build againt 2.0. I suspect that the former will be good
enough for now. I'll make sure I can build monodevelop before
uploading.

I'll certainly look into the dh_clideps problem, too.

Hi,

The init script continues to output to stdout after it has gone to the

Bug#382946: apt-proxy: fails on startup: cannot import name http

2006-08-14 Thread Mark Sheppard
Package: apt-proxy
Version: 1.9.34
Severity: important

After upgrading to 1.9.34 apt-proxy failed to start for me with the
following error:

  # /etc/init.d/apt-proxy start
  Starting apt-proxy
Failed to load application: cannot import name http
  .

Grepping through the python source files shows that the http module is
a twisted thing. So I upgraded to python-twisted/testing (2.4.0-2)
and it fixed it (the version listed below is from stable). The
upgrade pulled in quite few new python-twisted-* modules, many of
which I then purged (after using deborphan to work out they weren't
needed).

So I guess the Dependencies line of the package description for
apt-proxy should be changed to remove this bit:

  | python-twisted ( 2.1.0)

To leave this:

  python-twisted-web (= 0.6)

Cheers,
Mark.

I already have prepackages ready (actually, has had for about a year now), but
they're of course still undistributable due to the offending theme material,

 Shouldn't #200715 and #201448 be joined?

They already are merged.

MR You are trying to replace usplash functions!

MR Unfortunately, Debian and Ubuntu both selected usplash as their default

MR One suggestion from Petter Reinholdtsen (pere on IRC) is to put an

MR making bootsplash progress bar scripts emulate those from usplash. Then
MR sysv-rc doesn't need to be patched anymore, because we emulate usplash

Yes, that's a good proposal. As I said at the moment I've not time to

Hi Robert,

No worries!

Could you try with the latest stock Debian 2.6.16 kernel? You can use
optimised for your system, i.e. i686 and SMP at your convenience. (I am
having issues with 2.6.17 and NFS because mkisofs hangs, don't know
whether there are other problems, that's why I suggest to stick with
2.6.16.)

Bug#379559: refpolicy: FTBFS: tmp/generated_definitions.conf:597:ERROR 'syntax error' at token '' on line 3416:

2006-08-14 Thread Devin Carraway
I think this may be caused by an undeclared build dependency on gawk; accoding
to the changelog, gawk was added as a build-dep in 20060224-1 by Erich, but
doesn't appear there now. Without gawk installed, the build includes this
error, which isn't treated as fatal:

echo define(\`base_per_userdomain_template',\`
tmp/generated_definitions.conf
for i in ; do \
echo
ifdef(\`$i_per_userdomain_template',\`$i_per_userdomain_template('$*')')
 \
 tmp/generated_definitions.conf ;\
done
echo ') tmp/generated_definitions.conf
for i in ; do \
echo define(\`$i') tmp/generated_definitions.conf ;\
done
test -f policy/booleans.conf gawk -f support/set_bools_tuns.awk
policy/booleans.conf  tmp/generated_definitions.conf || true
/bin/sh: gawk: command not found

A bit later, the build fails thusly:

Compiling refpolicy-strict base module
/usr/bin/checkmodule -M base.conf -o tmp/base.mod
/usr/bin/checkmodule: loading policy configuration from base.conf
tmp/generated_definitions.conf:597:ERROR 'syntax error' at token '' on line
3416:

( u1 == u2 or t1 == can_change_object_identity );
/usr/bin/checkmodule: error(s) encountered while parsing configuration

In the m4 source which produced that file, the last two lines are:

define(`base_per_userdomain_template',`
')

... if gawk is installed, that macro instead includes a long list of ifdefs
and such goodies. More to the point, the build succeeds, or rather makes it a
bit farther before another FTBFS I'm still poking at.

 Oops, forgot the patch itself.

I have some comments about the wording:

 +Template: grub-installer/password-again
 +Type: password
 +_Description: Re-enter GRUB password:
+ Please enter the same GRUB password again to verify you have typed it
 + correctly.

I suggest, by analogy to user-setup:

_Description: Re-enter GRUB password to verify:
Please enter the same GRUB password again to verify you have typed it
 correctly.

(BTW, we should fix nextwork-console so that the very similar password
confirmation prompt is worded similarly)

 +
 +Template: grub-installer/password-mismatch
 +Type: note
 +_Description: Password mismatch
+ The two passwords you entered were not the same. Please enter a password
 + again.

That's perfect as this is exactly the same wording than
user-setup...which means no more translation work to do..:-)

Looking at the patch, I can see why it fails to apply:
You are trying to replace usplash functions!

Unfortunately, Debian and Ubuntu both selected usplash as their default
bootsplash package, so better try cooperating than fighting it.

One suggestion from Petter Reinholdtsen (pere on IRC) is to put an
alernative to the usplash scripts that sysv-rc expects to find, i.e.
making bootsplash progress bar scripts emulate those from usplash. Then
sysv-rc doesn't need to be patched anymore, because we emulate usplash
scripts.

2006-08-14 Thread Nathanael Nerode
Package: ftp.debian.org
Severity: normal

First of all, this is a 'contrib' package.

Uninstallable for quite a long time thanks to missing various transitions.
4 RC bugs, including FTBFS and failure to uninstall. Security bugs. Vastly out
of date with respect to upstream (#290245). Not present in woody or sarge, and
already removed from 'etch'.

Maintainer appears to be MIA. Bugs have been tagged pending for over a year,
among other things.

Has a relatively high popcon count for a removal candidate -- 25 for
libvpopmail1 --
but given its severe out-of-date-ness, it is a snare and a delusion, and users
are
better served by downloading upstream. From the cavalcade of bugs, I doubt the
packaging is worth keeping for any possible future maintainer.

I'd request mentors who have time to check upload it into Debian.

Bug#382820: ara: add ability to search source packages

2006-08-14 Thread George Danchev
On Sunday 13 August 2006 17:37, Paul Wise wrote:

Hello Paul,
Thanks for your suggestion.

It would be nice if ara could search source packages too. Unless I'm
missing something, it cannot do this yet.

I see. The ara's idea is that you can search against _any_ field known
to the
debian packaging system and you _always_ get binary package names as result.
For instance if you want to search against the Source: field, you type:

 source:/shadow/
libapache-mod-auth-shadow libshadow-ruby1.6 libshadow-ruby1.8 login passwd

or if you want to see all known fields, type that instead:

 #all source:/shadow/

You can of course query any boolean combinations of fields thereof ;-)

I agree that there is still room to extend documentation and examples given,
thus if you have any text in mind I'd be glad to add it to the man page and
help code as well. What do you think ?

Bug#349780: Is poppler still preventing the upgrade?

2006-08-14 Thread Free Ekanayaka
Hi,

I'd just like to know if the poppler issue is still preventing the
latest evince upstream release to be packaged.

Not that the current evince 0.4.0 package is buggy (including
white-on-white text during selection which makes selections invisible,
see #365575).

As you know these bugs are fixed upstream:

ftp://ftp.gnome.org/pub/GNOME/sources/evince/0.5/evince-0.5.5.news

and Gnome 2.14 officially ships with Evince 0.5.2.

The poppler issue is now 7 month old, is there some chance to solve
it?

Ciao,

Free

 Please send us this file.

Unfortunately, I cannot do it now... I did not copy it from /tmp/ to a
safer place so it was removed after a reboot. But I have looked
through it several times and I recall that all the formats supplied
with the base installation of texlive were built without any errors.
The only error message was about omega format which is not in the base
installation of texlive but was included in the teTeX distro.
I copied that message to the bug report. I am afraid this is the only
information that I can provide by now, I am sorry.

This is quite unfortunate. Update tests teTeX - TeX Live belong to the
usual testing procedure that Norbert (main TeX Live maintainer) is
doing. So it would be interesting which special situation occurred on
your system.

Another thing that can be useful is that the version of tetex I had
was from the stable distro (i.e. 2.0.2c-8).

This, however, is very interesting and might well be the special
situation mentioned above. Do I understand you correctly that you were
running a testing system with teTeX from stable and then tried to update
that to TeX Live from unstable?

If so, then this update path is currently not supported. Whether or not
it will be supported for Sarge-Etch once Etch gets released hasn't been
decided yet.

I think that this happened because of some configuration files left
from the tetex installation in /etc/texmf/fmt.d

Possible. Please send us the output of the following commands:

 ls -l /etc/texmf/fmt.d
 ls -l /var/lib/tex-common/fmtutil-cnf/

This will not have much sense now because to get texlive working I had
to purge all the remainings of tetex. But again I remember that in
/etc/texmf/fmt.d there was a config file of teTeX that mentioned omega
format. When I purged remainings of all tetex-* packages manually
(dpkg --force-depends --purge) and installed texlive packages anew
 everything went without any errors.

Again very unfortunate.

By the way, another question about omega.
[...]
 I did not install texlive-omega. dpkg -S ebcdic.ocp says
 texlive-base: /usr/share/texmf-texlive/omega/ocp/misc/ebcdic.ocp

I don't have my development machine here, so I can't check this. Are the
other files from texlive-base, too?

Hello,

Because I can't live with a broken tex system, so after I reportbug

texlive-base-bin. then reinstall texlive-base-bin. and now everything
works well.

you can close this bug if you want.

 Thanks for your report.

  /tmp/texlive.fmtutil.dtq18928
Please include this file if you report a bug.

Another thing that can be useful is that the version of tetex I had
was from the stable distro (i.e. 2.0.2c-8).

By the way, another question about omega.

In /usr/share/texmf-texlive there is a dir omega with the following
content (ls -lR):

omega:
итого 0
drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 72 2006-08-13 23:18 ocp
drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 72 2006-08-13 23:18 otp

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 44 2000-08-14 03:21 id.otp

Are these files needed at all? Maybe they were included by a mistake?
I have installed the following texlive packages:

texlive
texlive-base
texlive-base-bin
texlive-common
texlive-context
texlive-doc-base
texlive-doc-en
texlive-fonts-recommended
texlive-lang-cyrillic
texlive-latex-base
texlive-latex-recommended
texlive-metapost
texlive-pdfetex
texlive-pictures
texlive-publishers

I did not install texlive-omega. dpkg -S ebcdic.ocp says
texlive-base: /usr/share/texmf-texlive/omega/ocp/misc/ebcdic.ocp

mozilla-locale-fr depends on mozilla-browser, which is scheduled to be
removed from Etch. You should most likely request removal from
 ftp-master.

You mean that mozilla (the all in one version), will be removed from the
archive? I haven't found such a bug against ftp.debian.org. If you
confirm that, I will reassign this bug to ftp.debian.org and ask for
removal.

Trying to figure why my choice of ImPS/2 isn't stored in xorg.conf,
I found that dexconf ignored it. Here is the patch.

The changelog has this entry:
 * Change default mouse protocol to ExplorerPS/2 (closes: Ubuntu#4106).
Daniel, is there some problem with applying this patch?

2006-08-14 Thread Devin Carraway
I tried forcing the build over to use a plain awk command (mawk, on my
machine), but this produces the same build failure -- mawk produces no output
when run in the build, while gawk does. I don't know enough awk to sort this
out, so here's the obvious patch to build-depend on gawk again.

Hello,

I think I managed to reproduce this bug for another architecture and

the title. All happened in an updated pbuilder sid chroot. I installed
via regular apt (well, aptitude) the build dependencies of

I wanted to build only svn-buildpackage. During the build srcinst

Bug#382820: ara: add ability to search source packages

2006-08-14 Thread Paul Wise
On Mon, 2006-08-14 at 13:00 +0300, George Danchev wrote:

It would be nice if ara could search source packages too. Unless I'm
missing something, it cannot do this yet.

I see. The ara's idea is that you can search against _any_ field known to the
debian packaging system and you _always_ get binary package names as result.
For instance if you want to search against the Source: field, you type:

Hmm, ok. To clarify, I intended to search for packages that build-depend
on cdbs and dpatch, but ara doesn't seem to support searching for
build-depends (or any other field in the Sources lists, but not the
Packages lists). For example:

$ ara -q build-depends:debhelper
(No packages).
$ ara -q Standards-Version:/3.6.2/
(No packages).
$ ara -q Build-Depends:/debhelper/
(No packages).

Does ara support this? It doesn't seem to work for me.

If it does, here is an example to list:

ara -fields Source,Package -table 'build-depends:debhelper'
Print the source and binary package names of every package that
build-depends on debhelper in a table.

Bug#382952: messages Xlib: unexpected async reply from allegro

Rectification : the problem happens also in allegro-4.2.0 vanilla, I
was wrong. The easiest way to reproduce it is to run the program from
gdb, then it happens almost 50% of the time when starting it, it's much
 more rare outside of gdb.

So forget this report, it's not related to debian, it's related to
 allegro.

Bug#382936: IPP Printer prints [EMAIL PROTECTED] ENTER LANGUAGE=PCL3GUI

2006-08-14 Thread Pascal De Vuyst
We have the same bug in Ubuntu, see
https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/+source/cupsys/+bug/55828.

I have a HP DeskJet 3820 printer connected to a Debian Sarge print
server (cupsys 1.1.23-10sarge1) and Ubuntu Dapper 6.06 LTS (cupsys
1.2.2-0ubuntu0.6.06) used as print client.

In the error_log of my print server I see that the requested file type
is: application/vnd.cups-postscript, because of this the output of the
print client gets run through foomatic-rip again.

D [14/Aug/2006:11:04:37 +0200] print_job: request file type is
application/vnd.cups-postscript.

I [14/Aug/2006:11:04:37 +0200] Started filter
/usr/lib/cups/filter/foomatic-rip

(PID 1274) for job 72.

Shouldn't the requested file type be application/octet-stream?

Windows clients correctly send application/octet-stream and print
without problems.

I also found that altering the hpijs PPD for my HP DeskJet 3820 printer
to have this line:

*cupsFilter:application/vnd.cups-postscript 0 -
And then install this altered PPD on my CUPS 1.2.2 print clients it
seems to print because the postscript output with printing options is
send to the server.
The requested file type indicated by the server in that case seems to be
application/postscript.
This allows for server side drivers, meaning we only need the binary
hpijs driver, foomatic-rip and gs-esp installed on the server and only
the altered PPD on each client.
