Could you also try:
  getent passwd 511149

Thanks for the detailed report.

 This is good.

Hmhmh, this is nice. I'm not sure it's fixed for everybody, but could
you please give the versions of xfwm, xorg drivers, xrender etc., for

Does this problem still exist with darcs 2.0.0-5?

You're active on the upstream roundup BTS; is there already a
corresponding ticket there (e.g. #109)? I want to mark this Debian
bug as forwarded (or close it, if the bug is fixed).

PS: are you interested in being a tester for new darcs-server .deb
packages? (http://bugs.debian.org/486192)

Bug#488531: devhelper FTBFS with gp-relative relocation against dynamic symbol

2008-07-05 Thread Mike Hommey
tag 488531 + patch
thanks

 There is a global
 gtk_moz_embed_get_nsIWebBrowserType gtk_moz_embed_get_nsIWebBrowser;
defined right before (likewise for other members of this array), and
even before, there is the same definition as for Yelper.cpp (see above).

Actually, the definitions were not the same, and the reason for that is
that some #includes were setting definitions for NS_EXPORT_ and
NS_IMPORT_ (namely, nscore.h, being #included by one of the #includes
in Yelper.cpp.

The disparity between these definitions in Yelper.cpp and in
dh-gecko-utils.cpp caused the problem. It is interesting to see this is
only a problem on alpha.

Anyways, this simple patch makes devhelp build on albeniz.

The patch was indeed created against the current stable release
(2.6-1etch1). I will try to produce a new patch against the current
2.6-3 release. However, considering the change I was proposing was quite
trivial, it might be quicker for you to directly edit the regex.py file.

Bug#489363: libpam-ldap: Auto

2008-07-05 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen
Package: libpam-ldap
Version: 180-1.7
Severity: wishlist
User: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Usertag: debian-edu

One issue with large scale deployment of Linux is the need to
configure each client. It would be easier if the clients were able to
automatically derive their configuration using network services. This
is successfully done with MS Active directory, where it uses DNS to
locate the LDAP servers, and then uses the LDAP rootDSE to figure out
the LDAP base.

This one-liner show how the SRV record at _ldap._tcp can be used to
locate the LDAP servers:

  ad_servers=$(host -N 2 -t srv _ldap._tcp | grep SRV | rev | awk '{print $1}'
| cut -d. -f2- | rev)

The next step done is to query any of the LDAP server for the LDAP
base to use

  ldapsearch -LLL -h $(echo $ad_servers | awk '{print $1}') -s base -b '' -x
'*' +

The latter trick work with OpenLDAP too. This is the output from the
OpenLDAP server used in Debian Edu:

Bug#489361: nss-ldapd: Support LDAP autoconfiguration using rootDSE?

2008-07-05 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen
Package: libnss-ldapd
Version: 0.6.3
Severity: wishlist
User: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Usertag: debian-edu

One issue with large scale deployment of Linux is the need to
configure each client. It would be easier if the clients were able to
automatically derive their configuration using network services. This
is successfully done with MS Active directory, where it uses DNS to
locate the LDAP servers, and then uses the LDAP rootDSE to figure out
the LDAP base.

This one-liner show up the SRV record at _ldap._tcp can be used to
locate the LDAP servers:

  ad_servers=$(host -N 2 -t srv _ldap._tcp | grep SRV | rev | awk '{print $1}'
| cut -d.

Bug#489366: peercast-servent: Can not remove the package if peercast is not running.

2008-07-05 Thread Charles Plessy
Package: peercast-servent
Version: 0.1217.toots.20060314-1etch0

Dear Romain,

/etc/init.d/peercast-servent stop fails if the server is not running.
However, this command is sent when the package is removed and as a
consequence removal itself fails if the server is not running. This may
be a pain of such removal is done when upgrading to Lenny, so maybe it
is advisable to fix the bug in Etch?

Have a nice day,

[Arthur de Jong]
 Could you also try:
   getent passwd 511149
ps has been known to not show user names of more than eight characters
(try a long username in /etc/passwd).

That could be the problem here, yes:

  nos06mg016:~# getent passwd 511149
  x-xxx-elev3:*:511149:5000:Test
Elev:/ude/nfsserver/Brukere04/x-pri-elev3/UnixHome:/bin/bash
  nos06mg016:~#

I tested with a user with a shorter username, and there ps showed the
correct username.

Happy hacking,

hmm, didn't see this control message before; resending it.

strictly speaking, it's jppp which doesn't cleanly uninstall.

The package was previously using python-central. After the upgrade,
the software fails to start, because Python trips over the broken
 symlinks in /usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/jppy that python-central
 left around.

In this case, please fix the problem in jppy. python-central itself
provides a hook to remove the symlinks if you tell it to do so.

I seem to have this problem too--however a detail that others
have not
mentioned is the error message printed before I am dropped to

error: Found two discs with the number 0?!?

Whoops, it's 'disks' not 'discs'. The string is from disk/raid.c line
448.

That's strange.. can you reproduce this error in grub-emu? (you should
see it during its initialisation, when grub_init_all() is called)

There's no error with grub-emu -- I get straight to the menu

 Does this help?

It says, Found two disks with the number 0?!? (first hd1,2 then
hd3,2).

As for an update on the other parts of this bug: prefix and root are set
correctly, so in order to boot I have only to enter 'insmod normal' and
then 'normal'.

has been replaced with a standard used and supported by many

However, there's a few places where debian-menu is a better

do not support XDG, but honestly, do we need all these WMs?)

Another solution would be to make debian-menu build .desktop

'Debian' namespace; this seems like the easiest solution.

I don't think that the idea of superseding menu lacks support, it
lacks people doing the work (and the coding part seems small compared
to creating a mapping the categories, preferably in both directions,
and come up with a sane policy). Also, this seems to be something to
 do shortly after a release...

Which makes coming up with sane policy around now a good idea,
methinks. (So development can be underway and implemented by lenny+1).

Bug#489338: [Pkg-xfce-devel] Bug#489338: xfburn: Sometimes hangs when trying to read from drive (e.g. to get write speed before prompting for choices for writing a CD)

I've had xfburn hang a few times, to the point where I had to reboot
my computer to be able to use my DVD-RW drive again. This occurs when

In addition to the information Yves-Alexis Perez asked for, can you also
provide the output of:
cdrskin --tell_media_space

Try running that a few times which will also use libburn to read from
the device and should help us work out if it's a bug in the library
somewhere.

Bug#489370: gammu: cmd line options from --help differ from man; handling of .gammurc not like sample suggests

2008-07-05 Thread Paolo
Package: gammu
Version: 1.08.00-1
Severity: normal

hi,

--help (or nothing) says:

  Usage: gammu [confign] [nothing|text|textall|binary|errors] [options]

but trying any [confign] stanza yields the error/help page. man page says
instead:

  gammu [nothing|text|textall|binary|errors] [options]

which seems the right one.

Also, according to the doc/gammu/examples/config/gammurc.gz seems that I
can define any config stanza like

[name1]
...
[name2]
...

the 'gammu' prefix seems not mandatory; so I set a stanza named

[gammu_dku2]

but it's completely ignored; gammu read the config set only after naming
the stanza simply:

[gammu]

So the config stuff is pretty much confusing (to me), esp. because there's
no 'man gammurc' and only doc seems that sample config.

thanks

2.3.2 failed with graphical corruption just like earlier versions. Many icons
are black, as is konsole background, and lots of things don't get rendered.

Also, I've been getting some minor graphical corruption with day to day use
lately. Things like stray letters on the desktop, kde toolbars turning into
multicolored horizontal stripes until a mouseover causes them to be
repainted. Could it be related? I don't see these issues on my desktop, so
it feels like a X driver bug.

Sorry for the delay.

I don't see this as a bug. Freevo creates a lot of files
(configurations, TV recordings ) inside /home/freevo, using the freevo
ID. If somebody installs freevo, deinstalls it, and reinstalls it, it
makes sense that those files must be again owned by 'freevo'.
If the uid and gid were removed, some other user may end up using them

Bug#489218: win32-loader: [INTL:vi] Vietnamese program translation update

2008-07-05 Thread Robert Millan
clone 489218 -1

On Fri, Jul 04, 2008 at 11:11:46PM +0930, Clytie Siddall wrote:

Is this a fork/branch of NSIS? In that case, I'm afraid we can't

NSIS Unicode is actually a separate project. The main NSIS project
refuses to support UTF-8, despite years of increasingly desperate
requests from the languages that require it (like Vietnamese). In the
end, this guy had to start his own project to solve the problem. He
always uses the latest NSIS code, but adds his modifications so it
 supports UTF-8.

From the link in their site to forum discussion about merging this in NSIS,
it doesn't seem like they refuse to, but simply have concerns about minor
things like which charset to use for examples, etc. Are you sure this isn't
going to be merged in the near future?

A problem with switching completely to UTF-16 is that this seems to be
incompatible with Windows 98 (believe it or not, there are many users of
this program who run it under Windows 98). Is it possible to keep it
multi-charset just like now, but using UTF-16 only for the languages that
need it?

OpenOffice.org has just started using NSIS Unicode, to support all the
languages otherwise left out in the cold, and Mozilla also use it. I
should talk to Christian Perrier about this, because it's really an
i18n matter. But I thought you should also be concerned, since you're
 packaging Windows installer software.

It isn't really up to me. If the functionality is in Debian, and is usable
(see my concern above), I have no problem with using it. You should also
talk with Paul Wise (the maintainer of nsis in Debian); I'm cloning this
bug for you.

Bug#489369: ITP: python-pykcs11 -- a complete RSA PKCS#11 wrapper for Python

Daniel, I would appreciate it if you can sponsor this package. Is that

PyKCS11 let you access to almost all PKCS#11
functions and data types using any PKCS#11 library,
such as the various modules supplied by smartcard
vendors. The wrapper comes with 2 interfaces: a low
level and very thin interface over the original
PKCS#11 API, generated using the SWIG compiler
(designed for library tests); and an high level
interface that offers a simpler access (with few
 limits) to the PKCS#11 APIs.

python-pykcs11 is an architecture dependent python module written in
C++. It uses swig to build a wrapper library and bundles an architecture
independent python module to provide a high-level interface to the
 architecture dependent part.

No. dh_pycentral is a helper used to install the files, and thus it

In this case, please fix the problem in jppy. python-central
itself provides a hook to remove the symlinks if you tell it to do
 so.

How am I supposed to do that? By calling pycentral from the new

Check if MPlayer SVN versions r25145, r25499, r25500 and r25506 are related.
Same issues might exist with muxer_lavf and mencoder.

I checked the commits. I think the r25145 is the fix. I applied the
attached patch, rebuilt mplayer and now it works! Thanks a lot for
figuring things out. So I think you just need to apply the attached
patch and that's it.

Bug#489376: ntp: Please provide support for NTP server discovery using RFC 2782

2008-07-05 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen

Package: ntp
Version: 4.2.2.p4+dfsg-2
Severity: wishlist
User: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Usertag: debian-edu

One issue with large scale deployment of Linux is the need to
configure each client. It would be easier if the clients were able to
automatically derive their configuration using network services. This
is successfully done with MS Active directory, where it uses DNS to
locate the LDAP servers, and then uses the LDAP rootDSE to figure out
the LDAP base. The DNS feature is using the mechanism described in
RFC 2782 to find servies.

It would be great if NTP could locate the local NTP servers using the
same mechanism. This one-liner show how the SRV record at _ntp._udp
can be used to locate the NTP servers:

  ntp_servers=$(host -N 2 -t srv _ntp._udp | rev | awk '/VRS/ {print $1}' | cut
-d. -f2- | rev)

Please implement a way to enable this in NTP, preferably using debconf
preseeding to allow it to be set automatically at install time.

Happy hacking,

Sounds like GRUB being too conservative. What happens if you comment out the
offending lines? (BOTH grub_error() and return 0).

right cryptsetup should maybe not write into /etc/i-t/conf.d

anyway i'd like to hear from cryptsetup maintainers before reassgning.

I'm not sure I understand the question. The cryptsetup initramfs hook
writes its config file by doing:

 echo $OPTIONS $DESTDIR/conf/conf.d/cryptroot

If that is below /etc, that would be due to initramfs-tools, wouldn't
 it?

okay it was quite late yesterday, aboves should be in the initramfs
itself. not sure if that bug report is not completly bogus

it is saying that /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/cryptroot is modified
on an update-initramfs -u run. i don't see any hook on my box
that would do that.

Bug#489381: rsyslog: Please provide support for syslog server discovery using RFC 2782

2008-07-05 Thread Petter Reinholdtsen

Package: rsyslog
Version: 3.16.1-1
Severity: wishlist
User: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Usertag: debian-edu

One issue with large scale deployment of Linux is the need to
configure each client. It would be easier if the clients were able to
automatically derive their configuration using network services. This
is successfully done with MS Active directory, where it uses DNS to
locate the LDAP servers, and then uses the LDAP rootDSE to figure out
the LDAP base. The DNS feature is using the mechanism described in
RFC 2782 to find servies.

It would be great if rsyslog could locate the local syslog servers
using the same mechanism. This one-liner show how the SRV record at
_syslog._udp can be used to locate the syslog servers:

  syslog_servers=$(host -N 2 -t srv _syslog._udp | rev | awk '/VRS/ {print $1}'
| cut -d. -f2- | rev)

Please implement a way to enable this in rsyslog, preferably using
debconf preseeding to allow it to be set automatically at install
time.

Happy hacking,

Why aren't you using DHCP for this? You seemed to be happy with dhcp
before (http://bugs.debian.org/370332#36)

It looks to me that there are just too many ways to configure an (ntp)
server. It would be better if there was some central way we have to
configure all this, and dhcp seems to be doing most of this.

I would like that you people make up your mind about what exactly you
want.

ntpd has support for avahi I think, but we made sure it was disabled. I
can't remember why though, and I have no idea if that works or not.

Bug#489218: win32-loader: [INTL:vi] Vietnamese program translation update

2008-07-05 Thread Clytie Siddall

To Robert Millan, Debian developer for win32-loader

in the

NSIS Unicode is actually a separate project. The main NSIS project
refuses to support UTF-8, despite years of increasingly desperate
requests from the languages that require it (like Vietnamese). In the
end, this guy had to start his own project to solve the problem. He
always uses the latest NSIS code, but adds his modifications so it
supports UTF-8.

From the link in their site to forum discussion about merging this
in NSIS,
it doesn't seem like they refuse to, but simply have concerns about
minor
things like which charset to use for examples, etc. Are you sure
this isn't

going to be merged in the near future?

I've CC'd Jim so he can explain this better. All I know is that we
translators have been formally requesting UTF-8 support in the main
NSIS project for _years_, at least 3 years in my case. The NSIS
project has repeatedly said that they have no intention of supporting
UTF-8. If they are finally changing their mind, that's great, but I
wouldn't count on it.

A problem with switching completely to UTF-16 is that this seems to be
incompatible with Windows 98 (believe it or not, there are many
users of

this program who run it under Windows 98). Is it possible to keep it
multi-charset just like now, but using UTF-16 only for the languages
that

need it?

Again, Jim can answer this better. I don't actually run Windows
myself, but nearly all my users do, so I translate a lot of software
which runs on Windows. I agree that older systems have to be supported
in some way, since in third-world countries people often can't afford
modern systems. (I've talked to developers in India, for example,
whose computers are extremely old and only held together by spit and
prayer. I remember losing touch with one developer because his
makeshift hardware repairs (involving string and sticky-tape) had
fallen apart, and that meant he no longer had computer access.)

OpenOffice.org has just started using NSIS Unicode, to support all
the

languages otherwise left out in the cold, and Mozilla also use it. I
should talk to Christian Perrier about this, because it's really an
i18n matter. But I thought you should also be concerned, since you're
packaging Windows installer software.

It isn't really up to me. If the functionality is in Debian, and is
usable
(see my concern above), I have no problem with using it. You should
also
talk with Paul Wise (the maintainer of nsis in Debian); I'm cloning
this

bug for you.

OK, if Jim doesn't mind providing the info, I'm happy to help get
Unicode NSIS into Debian. I can't package it, but I can help join some
of the dots. (Note: I will be unavailable for some time soon [1-2
weeks?] due to medical treatment but hope to be able to participate
again afterwards.)

Bug#489340: /sbin/ip: fails to check error codes

2008-07-05 Thread Johannes Berg
Hi,

Do you have any hints for me on how I can make my wlan0 (ath5k) fail
 link up commands?

Sure, that's easy:

ip link set wlan0 down
iwconfig wlan0 mode repeater # set WDS mode but no peer address
ip link set wlan0 up

On lör, 2008-07-05 at 06:36 +0200, Johannes Berg wrote:
  # ip link set wlan0 up

I think I've found the right place in the code, but could you please do
a echo $? after the above command to see if the exit code is 2?

 ip/iplink.c, line 366 (in iplink_modify):

 if (rtnl_talk(rth, req.n, 0, 0, NULL, NULL, NULL)  0)
 exit(2);

There should probably be an error message before the exit function...

Heh, looks like.

It seems you use some specific tool like debmirror to perform the

Unfortunately, debmirror is not a supported method for mirrors listed in

anonftpsync is the method recommended by

It mirrors and generates all the files needed, and allow the mirror to

Unfortunately, this failed on both my atheros- and intel-based wlan that

This command will uncover alot of places where error messages should
likely be added:

grep -R -A1 'if.*rtnl_' . | grep -B1 exit

For libdvdnav, we already have the new upstream from mplayer project in
Debian, so that won't give regressions; for libdvdread, it would be nice
to have the original libdvdread patched up with mplayer patches (if any).

libdvdnav has never been embedded in MPlayer.

Unfortunately, this failed on both my atheros- and intel-based wlan that
I have available... anyway, thanks for confirming.

Ah, yes, they don't support WDS maybe. Let me look if it's triggerable
differently. Here's what you can do: install the 'iw' tool (from
git.sipsolutions.net) and create a new interface:

# iw dev wmaster0 interface add wlan1 type station

then try to set it up:
# ifconfig wlan1 up
SIOCSIFFLAGS: Name not unique on network
# ip link set wlan1 up
#

This command will uncover alot of places where error messages should
 likely be added:

 grep -R -A1 'if.*rtnl_' . | grep -B1 exit

I'll have a look at it and send the patch upstream after my upcoming
roadtrip, unless someone else has already beaten me to it by then.

Cool, thanks. I can talk to upstream, I know Stephen.

Bug#489374: Bug#489218: win32-loader: [INTL:vi] Vietnamese program translation update

Is this a fork/branch of NSIS? In that case, I'm afraid we can't
 use your
translation untill Unicode support is merged (either in upstream or
 in the
 Debian package).

(Note: I will be unavailable for some time soon [1-2
weeks?] due to medical treatment but hope to be able to participate
 again afterwards.)

mlocate and locate can co-exist on the same system. they don't conflict.
there is no need to remove locate just to install mlocate.

No, but then disabling the useless daily updatedb run requires some more
fiddling. Although documented in locate's README.Debian, at least.

I would like to suggest adding a README to dlocate as well, answering
this FAQ, perhaps pointing to #454106, and making explicit that
disabling the daily updatedb run does *not* hamper dlocate's
functionality. Something that I find not obvious after quickly reading
the bug reports you mentioned.

it. As a last resort can you try running defoma-reconfigure?

Note: This will remove pretty much everything in /var/lib/defoma, so if
you put something custom there you may want to back it up.

[Kurt Roeckx]
Why aren't you using DHCP for this? You seemed to be happy with dhcp
 before (http://bugs.debian.org/370332#36)

Right. I had forgotten that it is an option. I am happy with using
DHCP, and will try to change Debian Edu to use it on the clients.

I would like that you people make up your mind about what exactly
 you want.

Oh, we know what we want, but not quite how to do it for the multitude
of services we autoconfigure. We want everything working out of the
box, and preferably without any hardcoded configuration on the
clients. :)

ntpd has support for avahi I think, but we made sure it was
disabled. I can't remember why though, and I have no idea if that
 works or not.

Ah. That might be an option too, but I have run into problems (slow
DNS resolution) using Avahi, and am unsure how well it will work in
the Debian Edu setup. Avahi seem like a good idea, though. :)

Happy hacking,

Description : A virtual network laboratory and simulation tool

Marionnet is a virtual network laboratory: it allows users to define,
configure and run complex computer networks without any need for physical
setup. Only a single, possibly even non-networked GNU/Linux host machine
is required to simulate a whole Ethernet network complete with computers,
routers, hubs, switchs, cables, and more.
 .
As Marionnet is meant to be used also by inexperienced people, it features a
very intuitive graphical user interface (using GTK2). Marionnet is written in
the mostly functional language OCaml and depends on User Mode Linux and VDE
Virtual Distributed Ethernet for the simulation part.

 Hello,

It looks like ipv6 is disabled in the vserver flavour of
 linux-image-2.6.25-2.

I don't understand why it is, I can't find any information in the
changelog of the debian package, nor in the changelog of the vserver
 patch.

Please enble it or provide some information on why it is disabled,

 Thanks you

 Victor

afair vserver needed a special ipv6 patch.
anyway we will provide openvz images that use the upstream commited
namespace bits and it will have ipv6 enabled.
