Bug#488531: devhelper FTBFS with gp-relative relocation against dynamic symbol
tag 488531 + patch thanks There is a global gtk_moz_embed_get_nsIWebBrowserType gtk_moz_embed_get_nsIWebBrowser; defined right before (likewise for other members of this array), and even before, there is the same definition as for Yelper.cpp (see above). Actually, the definitions were not the same, and the reason for that is that some #includes were setting definitions for NS_EXPORT_ and NS_IMPORT_ (namely, nscore.h, being #included by one of the #includes in Yelper.cpp. The disparity between these definitions in Yelper.cpp and in dh-gecko-utils.cpp caused the problem. It is interesting to see this is only a problem on alpha. Anyways, this simple patch makes devhelp build on albeniz. I think the debian-menu system should be seen as legacy, since it has been replaced with a standard used and supported by many upstreams and many other distros. However, there's a few places where debian-menu is a better solution though. (It can be used to build menus for many WMs which do not support XDG, but honestly, do we need all these WMs?) Another solution would be to make debian-menu build .desktop entries for the menu in the main menu namespace and not the 'Debian' namespace; this seems like the easiest solution. +1 I don't think that the idea of superseding menu lacks support, it lacks people doing the work (and the coding part seems small compared to creating a mapping the categories, preferably in both directions, and come up with a sane policy). Also, this seems to be something to do shortly after a release... Which makes coming up with sane policy around now a good idea, methinks. (So development can be underway and implemented by lenny+1). Package: gammu Version: 1.08.00-1 Severity: normal hi, --help (or nothing) says: Usage: gammu [confign] [nothing|text|textall|binary|errors] [options] but trying any [confign] stanza yields the error/help page. man page says instead: gammu [nothing|text|textall|binary|errors] [options] which seems the right one. Also, according to the doc/gammu/examples/config/gammurc.gz seems that I can define any config stanza like [name1] ... [name2] ... the 'gammu' prefix seems not mandatory; so I set a stanza named [gammu_dku2] but it's completely ignored; gammu read the config set only after naming the stanza simply: [gammu] So the config stuff is pretty much confusing (to me), esp. because there's no 'man gammurc' and only doc seems that sample config. thanks -- paolo -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#489218: win32-loader: [INTL:vi] Vietnamese program translation update
clone 489218 -1 retitle -1 support for utf-16 reassign -1 nsis thanks On Fri, Jul 04, 2008 at 11:11:46PM +0930, Clytie Siddall wrote: Is this a fork/branch of NSIS? In that case, I'm afraid we can't use your translation untill Unicode support is merged (either in upstream or in the Debian package). NSIS Unicode is actually a separate project. The main NSIS project refuses to support UTF-8, despite years of increasingly desperate requests from the languages that require it (like Vietnamese). In the end, this guy had to start his own project to solve the problem. He always uses the latest NSIS code, but adds his modifications so it supports UTF-8. From the link in their site to forum discussion about merging this in NSIS, it doesn't seem like they refuse to, but simply have concerns about minor things like which charset to use for examples, etc. Are you sure this isn't going to be merged in the near future? A problem with switching completely to UTF-16 is that this seems to be incompatible with Windows 98 (believe it or not, there are many users of this program who run it under Windows 98). Is it possible to keep it multi-charset just like now, but using UTF-16 only for the languages that need it? OpenOffice.org has just started using NSIS Unicode, to support all the languages otherwise left out in the cold, and Mozilla also use it. I should talk to Christian Perrier about this, because it's really an i18n matter. But I thought you should also be concerned, since you're packaging Windows installer software. It isn't really up to me. If the functionality is in Debian, and is usable (see my concern above), I have no problem with using it. You should also talk with Paul Wise (the maintainer of nsis in Debian); I'm cloning this bug for you. -- Robert Millan GPLv2 I know my rights; I want my phone call! Bug#489376: ntp: Please provide support for NTP server discovery using RFC 2782
Package: ntp Version: 4.2.2.p4+dfsg-2 Severity: wishlist User: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Usertag: debian-edu One issue with large scale deployment of Linux is the need to configure each client. It would be easier if the clients were able to automatically derive their configuration using network services. This is successfully done with MS Active directory, where it uses DNS to locate the LDAP servers, and then uses the LDAP rootDSE to figure out the LDAP base. The DNS feature is using the mechanism described in RFC 2782 to find servies. It would be great if NTP could locate the local NTP servers using the same mechanism. This one-liner show how the SRV record at _ntp._udp can be used to locate the NTP servers: ntp_servers=$(host -N 2 -t srv _ntp._udp | rev | awk '/VRS/ {print $1}' | cut -d. -f2- | rev) Please implement a way to enable this in NTP, preferably using debconf preseeding to allow it to be set automatically at install time. Bug#489376: [pkg-ntp-maintainers] Bug#489376: ntp: Please provide support for NTP server discovery using RFC 2782

Why aren't you using DHCP for this? You seemed to be happy with dhcp before (http://bugs.debian.org/370332#36) It looks to me that there are just too many ways to configure an (ntp) server. It would be better if there was some central way we have to configure all this, and dhcp seems to be doing most of this. I would like that you people make up your mind about what exactly you want. ntpd has support for avahi I think, but we made sure it was disabled. I can't remember why though, and I have no idea if that works or not. Kurt -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Bug#489218: win32-loader: [INTL:vi] Vietnamese program translation update
To Robert Millan, Debian developer for win32-loader Cc: Jim Park, developer of NSIS Unicode; this bug at the BTS; NSIS package address On 05/07/2008, at 7:58 PM, Robert Millan wrote: On Fri, Jul 04, 2008 at 11:11:46PM +0930, Clytie Siddall wrote: Is this a fork/branch of NSIS? I've CC'd Jim so he can explain this better. All I know is that we translators have been formally requesting UTF-8 support in the main NSIS project for _years_, at least 3 years in my case. The NSIS project has repeatedly said that they have no intention of supporting UTF-8. If they are finally changing their mind, that's great, but I wouldn't count on it. A problem with switching completely to UTF-16 is that this seems to be incompatible with Windows 98 (believe it or not, there are many users of this program who run it under Windows 98). Is it possible to keep it multi-charset just like now, but using UTF-16 only for the languages that need it? Again, Jim can answer this better. I don't actually run Windows myself, but nearly all my users do, so I translate a lot of software which runs on Windows. I agree that older systems have to be supported in some way, since in third-world countries people often can't afford modern systems. (I've talked to developers in India, for example, whose computers are extremely old and only held together by spit and prayer. I remember losing touch with one developer because his makeshift hardware repairs (involving string and sticky-tape) had fallen apart, and that meant he no longer had computer access.) OpenOffice.org has just started using NSIS Unicode, to support all the languages otherwise left out in the cold, and Mozilla also use it. OK, if Jim doesn't mind providing the info, I'm happy to help get Unicode NSIS into Debian. I can't package it, but I can help join some of the dots. OK, if Jim doesn't mind providing the info, I'm happy to help get Unicode NSIS into Debian. I can't package it, but I can help join some of the dots. No, but then disabling the useless daily updatedb run requires some more fiddling. Although documented in locate's README.Debian, at least. I would like to suggest adding a README to dlocate as well, answering this FAQ, perhaps pointing to #454106, and making explicit that disabling the daily updatedb run does *not* hamper dlocate's functionality. I am happy with using DHCP, and will try to change Debian Edu to use it on the clients. I would like that you people make up your mind about what exactly you want. Oh, we know what we want, but not quite how to do it for the multitude of services we autoconfigure. We want everything working out of the box, and preferably without any hardcoded configuration on the clients. :) ntpd has support for avahi I think, but we made sure it was disabled. I can't remember why though, and I have no idea if that works or not. Ah. That might be an option too, but I have run into problems (slow DNS resolution) using Avahi, and am unsure how well it will work in the Debian Edu setup. Marionnet is written in the mostly functional language OCaml and depends on User Mode Linux and VDE Virtual Distributed Ethernet for the simulation part. - -- System Information: Debian Release: 4.0 APT prefers stable APT policy: (500, 'stable') Architecture: i386 (i686) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash Kernel: Linux 2.6.18-6-686 Locale: LANG=fr_FR.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=fr_FR.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) -BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE- Version: GnuPG v1.4.6 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQFIb2s8SS/WQGxS2YARAp5zAKDOT9LhXmw8hhxeSU5UVWUlV0oaaQCdFyP6 tpsIcoI71CtxtZrtfWYLMQw= =5+XK -END PGP SIGNATURE- -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. I don't understand why it is, I can't find any information in the changelog of the debian package, nor in the changelog of the vserver patch. Please enble it or provide some information on why it is disabled, Thanks you Victor afair vserver needed a special ipv6 patch. anyway we will provide openvz images that use the upstream commited namespace bits and it will have ipv6 enabled. -- mask -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe.
