Bug#976836: libgnutls30: 3.7.0-3 fails to connect on debian.ethz.ch

2020-12-08 Thread Jonathan Ballet
Package: libgnutls30
Version: 3.7.0-3
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks unrelated software

Dear Maintainer,

I updated gnutls to 3.7.0-3 this morning, then apt was unable to connect to
the Debian mirror https://debian.ethz.ch/debian/:

$ sudo apt update

Bug#909311: python3-consul: Please package newer version

2018-09-21 Thread Jonathan Ballet
Package: python3-consul
Version: 0.7.1-1
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

The python3-consul package currently shipped by Debian is v0.7.1 which
was released more than a year ago.
Since then several versions have been released which are fixing
a bunch of broken things (I'm especially interested by this patch [1]
which fixes many incorrect HTTP verbs).

Would it be possible to provide an upgraded version of python-consul?

Thanks!

 Jonathan

Bug#882590: libreoffice: Fails to start with "double free or corruption (fasttop)" error

Hum, interesting. I had a custom ~/.fonts.conf which was a symlink to
the actual configuration file in a Git repository checkout somewhere else.

Removing the symlink and/or transforming the symlink into an actual
hardlink or a "real" file makes Libreoffice work.

However, having this file as a hardlink or a real file crashes some
other applications, although they were fine with the symlink variant.

I ended up removing ~/.fonts.conf in the meanwhile which seems to
satisfy most applications.

Thanks for the suggestion and sorry for the noise.

I have prepared an update of graphite-web for jessie. Could you please

I tested it and it looks like the bug I reported is fixed.

If it works, I will talk to the stable release team, if they could
include it into the next point release.

That would be awesome, let me know how it goes!

Bug#774841: qtbase-opensource-src: Please provide qtconfig-qt5

2015-01-08 Thread Jonathan Ballet
Source: qtbase-opensource-src
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

the Qt4 source package provides a qt4-qtconfig package to configure
various aspects of Qt4 applications.

Qt5 in Debian currently doesn't ship with this application, although
it seems to be part of the Qt5 repository. There's no way to configure
Qt5 application, except by hand-editing the appropriate settings in the
appropriate files (I guess?), which is sub-optimal.

Can you please provide the qtconfig application for the Qt5 plateform?

Thanks,

 Jonathan

Bug#770388: apt-cache as a non-root user if a APT .list file is not readable

Yes, but this isn't a bug. The sources.list tells us which repositories
to get data from and by extension which files on disk contain this data.
If the current user can't read the sources.list files, apt will not know
which files are to be used and which ones are stale. The binary cache
it deploys to avoid reparsing all these files all the time will be
considered invalid as it contains data from sources which (might or
might not) be still in the unreadable sources.list file. The only reason
we can be fast by using a binary cache is that we know that it is
current – otherwise we would need to be a lot more careful while working
with the data files which means we are a lot slower (as you
experienced). So, this is all by design…

In other words: If you want to use apt, the user you run it with needs
read access to sources.list files. There is no point in forbidding read
access here anyway as you /can/ force apt to consider the binary cache
as valid and hence extract the data or lookup the filenames in the lists
 directory or or or.

I understand this design decision, my use-case was more like: I
created a sources.list file with the wrong permission, and my normal
user couldn't read it. As such, running apt-cache without being root
was much, much slower. As I usually never use apt-cache as root and that
nothing reports that this file can't be read and that apt-cache is going
to use this slower codepath, I thought there was a much more serious
problem on my machine than just this file permission issue.

In the end, I had to resort to strace to discover the real underlying
problem, which is not really intuitive although 1. this situation is
kind of abnormal (I understand what you said this way) and 2. the fix is
really simple.

Is there a way this issue could have been avoided?

Best regards,

 Jonathan

Bug#770388: apt-cache as a non-root user if a APT .list file is not readable

2014-11-20 Thread Jonathan Ballet
Package: apt
Version: 1.0.9.3
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

running apt-cache or apt-search as a non-root user is (was) very slow on
my machine:

$ time apt-cache show gmpc
...
apt-cache show gmpc 4.95s user 0.59s system 83% cpu 6.601 total
$ time sudo apt-cache show gmpc
...
apt-cache show gmpc 0.06s user 0.04s system 62% cpu 0.172 total

I tracked down the problem using strace and it seems that if a APT .list
file is not readable by a non-root user, apt-cache (in this case) goes
much, much slower:

$ time apt-cache show gmpc
...
apt-cache show gmpc 0.06s user 0.05s system 74% cpu 0.139 total

$ sudo touch /etc/apt/sources.list.d/foo.list
$ sudo chmod 600 /etc/apt/sources.list.d/foo.list

$ time apt-cache show gmpc
E: Opening /etc/apt/sources.list.d/foo.list - ifstream::ifstream (13:
Permission denied)
E: The list of sources could not be read.
E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.
E: No packages found
apt-cache show gmpc 0.05s user 0.04s system 73% cpu 0.120 total

$ sudo apt-get update
...
$ time apt-cache show gmpc
...
apt-cache show gmpc 4.95s user 0.59s system 83% cpu 6.601 total

$ sudo chmod 644 /etc/apt/sources.list.d/foo.list
$ time apt-cache show gmpc
...
apt-cache show gmpc 0.06s user 0.04s system 62% cpu 0.172 total

strace shows that, when it's fast, apt-cache open the Packages file in
/var/lib/apt/lists/ and jumps directly using fseek() to the right
position to read the information about the package.

But when it's slow, it does the following:

 * it opens the same Package file
 * it reads the whole file, 32kB per 32kB
 * it opens a temporary file in /tmp
 * it opens the related _InRelease file
 * it writes into the temporary file... stuff (checksums it seems, from
   the _InRelease file I guess?)
 * after reading the while _InRelease file, it closes it, seek to the
beginning of the temporary file and reads everything, then closes it.
 * then, it starts again with the next Package file

So, yeah, it's much slower in the end.

 Jonathan

packaging :/
If you ever make a patch (or at worst, several patches) to solve this
issue, I can try to have another look and try to understand this, once

If you're in need of a good practical Debian packaging guide, I highly
recommend Lucas Nussbaum's packaging-tutorial (which you can apt-get
install, or fetch online [1]). Some Python specific packaging tips are
covered on the Debian wiki [2] as well. You're also more than welcome
to drop by #debian-mentors and #debian-python on OFTC if you're still
 struggling with packaging-related issues.

Thank you for the links. I will have a look and try to propose a patch
when I will time, patience, and motivation to dive into this again.
Hopefully, by then, the package will be out of experimental and I would
be able to install the build dependencies without spending 50 minutes to
try to do so (which I gave up to.)

Bug#728124: tsung doesn't start: init terminating in do_boot

2013-10-28 Thread Jonathan Ballet
Package: tsung
Version: 1.4.2-1.1
Severity: important
Justification: renders package unusable

Dear Maintainer,

I just installed tsung and tried to run it with a very basic
configuration file inspired by the http_simple.xml example, and this is
what I get:

$ tsung -f http_simple.xml start
Starting Tsung
{init terminating in do_boot,{'cannot load',error_handler,get_files}}

Crash dump was written to: erl_crash.dump
init terminating in do_boot ()

I don't have more information and the erl_crash.dump doesn't contain
more information either.

I'm attaching to this bug report the configuration file I'm using,
though I believe it doesn't even reach the point where it would read
this file.

This renders the package unusable here.

Thanks,

 Jonathan

Bug#711354: gnote: Can't use synchronization (WebDAV or local folder)

2013-06-06 Thread Jonathan Ballet
Package: gnote
Version: 3.8.1-2
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

I'm trying to synchronize my notes using the new Synchronization
preferences.

* after configuring it, the WebDAV service complains that I need to
have FUSE and wdfs correctly installed and configured.

I do have FUSE on my computer, but Debian doesn't seem to know
anything about wdfs, so I'm not sure what I'm supposed to configure
  now.

* the Local Folder service doesn't seem to do anything useful. After
setting it up, it doesn't create any notes or folder in the
synchronization folder I specified, and doesn't display antyhing
  useful on stdout neither.

So basically, any synchronization service is pretty useless at the
moment.

Bug#694594: python-gi: scrolling down ovr a StatusIcon emits lot of scroll up events

2012-11-27 Thread Jonathan Ballet
Package: python-gi
Version: 3.3.91-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

scrolling down with the mouse wheel over a Gtk.StatusIcon emits lot of
GDK_SCROLL_UP events, actually much more than scroll down events.
I can't reproduce this using PyGtk on the same machine, so I guess it's
not related to my machine.

I attached a test script which demonstrates the problem: when launched,
it creates a status icon (actually, without icon), and scrolling over
prints in the console the events received. Specifying the -p option
runs the same example with PyGtk, which doesn't have the problem.

Thanks,

 Jonathan

sure. however you did forget to attach the patch.

Asked so nicely, I couldn't resist to make one.
It's my first time patching Debian packaging things, so it might be
rough on the edge. I'm not sure, in particular, if the approach is ok.

Please find the attached patch to this email.

Bug#693781: twisted-doc doesn't contain the API documentation

2012-11-20 Thread Jonathan Ballet
Package: twisted-doc
Version: 12.0.0-1
Severity: wishlist

Dear Maintainer,

twisted-doc only provides the 'how to's and examples documentation from
the Twisted repository, but it doesn't contain the actual API of this
framework. As a matter of fact, the index of this documentation directly
redirects to the Twisted Matrix website.

In my opinion, one of the goal of installing -doc packages is to allow
offline browsing of documentation. Since the API of Twisted is quite
extensive and that probabl more than half of the links from the actual
documentation redirect you to the API anyway, the full API documentation
would be a good addition to the content of twisted-doc.

In short, is is possible to provide the API documentation of Twisted as
a package (either as part of twisted-doc or into another package)?

Thanks,

 Jonathan

Bug#666876: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics: Scrolling too fast *sometimes* stucks the X server

2012-04-01 Thread Jonathan Ballet
Package: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics
Version: 1.5.99.901-1
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

I'm using a Asus eeePC 701 4G which has a weird behavior since several
weeks now: sometimes (not always), if I scroll too fast using the
right scrolling feature of my touchpad, the displa freezes for several
seconds (from 3 to 30+), where I can't do anything (the mouse cursor
doesn't move anymore, the keyboard doesn't answer, etc.), then
everything seems to get back as usual.
Sometime, I can continue to work, as everything seems to work, but other
times, I have to restart completely my X session: the cursor doesn't
reply to left or right click, even the keboard seems to be unresponsive.
My window manager (awesome) seems to suffer the most from this problem,
since most of keyboard shortcuts don't work anymore after this problem
occurs.

I'm not sure if I can reproduce the problem at will, but scrolling
really fast in my web browser seems to be a good way to make it crash.

I replaced the Xorg.log below by the one I had with the problem in the
synaptics driver.
I can provide more information if needed, although I'm not sure *how* to
provide such information - feel free to point me out to some
documentation.

code is segfaulting, I'm not sure why.

From my non-working example, I created a minimal test case which show
the problem on my computer, which attached to this bug report. I also
provide the core dumped at

I don't have the core dumped if I execute the code with Python 2.7.

I would be glad to provide more information if needed.

Currently, the Gnumeric package in Debian doesn't ship with support for
this kind of plugin. This is the message I have when I try to enable a

Package: openvpn
Version: 2.2.1-3
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

When I try to connect to a VPN server, passing by a SOCKS proxy, I
always got this message:

The prox server running on localhost:12345 is a SSH prox, using 'ssh
server -D 12345'.
The SOCKS setting in the configuration file looks like this:

socks-proxy localhost 12345

If I remove this setting and if I'm on a network which I can directly
connect to the VPN server, everything works as expected.
I can connect and use the SOCKS proxy using other applications, such as
a web browser.

We can find some related issues looking on the Web, such as
http://readlist.com/lists/lists.sourceforge.net/openvpn-users/2/12784.html.

Thanks.

 Jonathan

Makes sense. Here's a rough patch; what do you think?

Looks good to me :) I'm not sure we need more than that. (Actually, I
knew it has spell checking ability but couldn't remember which package
was needed, and though that it might be documented in the Suggest
field of git-gui).

Thanks!

Dear Maintainer,

git-gui is able to do spell checking when editing commit message using
aspell or ispell, but you need to know that you should install one of
this package to have this feature available.

Could git-gui Suggest aspell and/or ispell?

Thanks,

Bug#651915: xserver-xorg-video-intel: Panning broken on 915GM

2011-12-12 Thread Jonathan Ballet
Package: xserver-xorg-video-intel

Version: 2:2.17.0-1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

I'm using a Asus eeePC 701 which has a native resolution of 800x480.
I wish to be able to pan the screen to something bigger sometimes, like
1024x768, using xrandr --output LVDS1 --panning 1024x768

Since several months (I can't remember when though), panning which is
used to work as expected with the previous command is now behaving
strangely: although it seems the screen gets bigger (application have
more room and the right and the bottom), I can't pan the screen using
the mouse as before. When I moved to the side of the screen, it moves at
most for about 1 pixel and that's all. So I can't see the portions of
the windows which are out of the screen.

This used to work 5 or 6 months ago, with xserver-xorg-video-intel
2.15.0-3 I guess (I'm not sure however).

Thanks,

 Jonathan

Bug#647477: seahorse: Seahorse sorts ID alphabetically instead of numerically

2011-11-02 Thread Jonathan Ballet
Package: seahorse
Version: 3.0.2-1
Severity: minor

Dear Maintainer,

when you browse for instance the passwords saved in your keyring, you
can sort them by clicking on the header of the table (either Name or Key
ID).
If you sort on Key ID, although all of the values in the column are
numerical, the table is sorted alphabetically, ie. as in 1, 109, 12,
instead of the more practical 1, 12, 109

Thanks,

 Jonathan

Bug#647478: python-kde4: RunTimeError when importing PyKDE4.kdeui

2011-11-02 Thread Jonathan Ballet
Package: python-kde4
Version: 4:4.6.80-3+b1
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

I just installed python-kde4 to test a package, and I got this error:

$ python

 import PyKDE4.kdeui
Traceback (most recent call last):

RuntimeError: the PyQt4.QtCore module is version 1 but the PyKDE4.kdeui
module requires version -1

Note that after this error, I can re-import the module, without any
error this time, and it seems I can access the content:

 dir(PyKDE4.kdeui)
Traceback (most recent call last):
File stdin, line 1, in module
NameError: name 'PyKDE4' is not defined
 PyKDE4.kdeui

I'm interested into the KWallet package, which is supposed to be in
PyKDE4.kdeui, but I can't import it though (I don't know if it's
connected to the error above or not, though).

can't figuring out when and why this problem occurs, and how to
reproduce it, but I definitively have it.

I'm not using the full Xfce stack though, actually, this is the only
Xfce application I deliberately launch.

Bug#645473: seahorse: seahorse-daemon warns about missing .desktop file

2011-10-15 Thread Jonathan Ballet
Package: seahorse
Version: 3.0.2-1
Severity: minor

Dear Maintainer,

When launching seahorse-daemon from the command line (or from my
..xsession file), I got the following warning:

** (seahorse-daemon:6618): WARNING **: Could not load desktop file
'/usr/share/gnome/autostart/seahorse-daemon.desktop': No such file or directory

I don't know what this file is supposed to contain, nor in which package
it is supposed to be, but I definitively don't have this on my system.

It seems that seahorse works fine though. Is it possible to consider
removing this warning?

Thanks.

Bug#643028: NetworkManager can't connect to new networks

2011-10-09 Thread Jonathan Ballet
Hi Peter,

I believe I suffer from the same problem as you : I can connect to saved
networks but not new ones.

However, when I the connection can't be made, I've got the following
line in my .xsession-errors:

** (nm-applet:1715): WARNING **: Failed to add/activate connection: (32)
Insufficient privileges.

The kind of things I can't also do are adding manually a new connection
if the Available to all users checkbox is checked, since I got a
Insufficient privileges dialog box error.
If I try to edit a new connection and to chec this box, I don't have the
error, but somehow, this particular setting is lost when I try to edit
connections again.

It might be related to the numerous problems with ConsoleKit and display
manager. My setup consists of Slim (DM) and Awesome (WM).

Hope it helps,

 Jonathan

Hi,

I used git bisect to track down the faulty commit and it looks like it's
due do aba809cf57681285888f1500658823adffc6df14: commenting out the call
to gdk_draw_pixbuf() and commenting the fix which used Cairo instead
fixed the problem for me.
It looks like the port from Gtk 2 to Gtk 3 is not perfect yet.

I'm not sure what is the proper fix though, since the way it has been
changed is the way recommanded in the migrating document (see
http://developer.gnome.org/gtk3/3.0/gtk-migrating-2-to-3.html#id1526151)

Bug#631173: ttf-dejavu: Randomly broken characters

2011-06-21 Thread Jonathan Ballet
Package: ttf-dejavu
Version: 2.33-1
Severity: important

Hi,

since a while, I've got issues with the DejaVu fonts as you ca see on
the attached screenshots: some letters don't display correctly (the
't' and the 'f' respectively) at this specific size.
The weird thing is that the problem only appears for specific size,
usually on only one letter. And if I close all the windows of the
application which show the problem (here Iceweasel and Roxterm) and open
it one more time, the problem is gone or the buggy letter is a different
one than previously.

I'm not sure if the problem is related to this specific font. I don't
use many others and I didn't see the problem on other fonts, so it might
be necessary to reaffect this bug. However, I have no clue how to fix or
deal with this problem.

Thanks,

 Jonathan

Bug#628443: qrfcview: Bad encoding of some characters in the document outline panel

2011-05-28 Thread Jonathan Ballet
Package: qrfcview
Version: 0.62-5.1
Severity: normal
Tags: patch

If you open for example the RFC 4287, section 4.1.1, it contains the
following title:

4.1.1. The atom:feed Element

which appears as:

4.1.1. The quote;atom:feedquote; Element

in the document outline panel.

The problem comes from the transformation of the document to suit the
HTML renderer and some characters are HTML-encoded, but the tree model
for the outline panel is filled with those encoded characters, whereas
it doesn't understand HTML entities.

I made a two lines patch to fix the problem, it basically use the
title from the original document to fill the tree model instead of the
transformed title.

Thanks,

 Jonathan

Hopefully, although the graphic environment couldn't start, I still had

Is there a way to get those messages spitted by udev or something else

it might be worth trying to downgrade those.

I tried to downgrade awesome and libxcb-[image0|keysims1|render-util0]
to the version in testing and I can *still* reproduce the bug.

I made a new obversation though: when my netbook wake up from sleeping
mode, it first displays the NM and xfpm icons for one second maybe,
then:

* the xfpm icon disapears for a very short time, maybe less than 1
second too, then it reappears and display the power management status
  (online, on battery, etc.) in a notifcation bubble;
* at the same time, NM tries to reconnect to the wireless connection.

It looks like it wait a very short time after waking up before doing
something (both applications). I tried to remove the NM applet, but I
still have the bug. I guess it doesn't really help, but I didn't pay
attention to this in the OP.

Could you check if the space between the two icons belongs to xfpm or nm

I had an upgrade of network-manager-gnome at the same time as awesome
the other day. However, I can't find a direct relationship between nm
and the spaces:

* as I told you in the other messages, it seems to display a xfpm
  tooltip somehow ;
* if I kill nm-applet, the spaces stay ;
* if I kill xfpm, the spaces disappear.

I will try to install xfce4 and see if I can reproduce the problem there.

If you have other random ideas that I can test, feel free to ask. My
free space on my HDD is very limited though (I'm running a eeePC with

Hum, actually no. However, this is weird: it takes actually two extra

Bug#625799: vidalia: Can't automatically retrieve bridges

2011-05-05 Thread Jonathan Ballet
Package: vidalia
Version: 0.2.12-2
Severity: normal

Hi,

when I try to retrieve new bridges configuration using the dedicated
button Find bridges now in the Network panel of the Settings window, I
got the following messages in the dialog box:

* Connecting to bridges.torproject.org:443...
* Sending an HTTPS request for bridges...
* Unable to download bridges: HTTP request failed

If I try to access the webpage https://bridges.torproject.org using my
web browser, it works.

I can't find more information in the log or the console output of
Vidalia.

Thank,

 Jonathan

Bug#618755: masqmail displays a warning when it starts/stops

2011-03-18 Thread Jonathan Ballet
Package: masqmail
Version: 0.2.27-1.2
Severity: normal

Hello,

when I start or stop masqmail, I got this message:

$ sudo /etc/init.d/masqmail stop
Stopping MTA (masqmail): debconf: unable to initialize frontend: Gnome
debconf: (Unable to load Gnome -- is libgnome2-perl installed?)
debconf: falling back to frontend: Dialog
 listen/queue.

I don't have libgnome2-perl installed on my system, so the message is
right, but I don't know why it calls debconf in the initd script in the
first place.

The error message is not harmful by itself, but it's a bit annoying and
it gives the impression that the initd script tries to do something
nasty beyond your back (maybe it doesn't, but that how it looks like).

This might be related to #432793 althought I don't remember seeing the
error message as described in this bug when shutdowning my laptop (maybe
I didn't really look).

Thanks,

 Jonathan

Bug#618760: python-keyring should suggest dependencies on backend keyring modules

2011-03-18 Thread Jonathan Ballet
Package: python-keyring
Version: 0.5.1-1
Severity: normal

Hello,

tl;dr: scripts which relied in the Gnome keyring might now fail if the
python-gnomekeyring module is not installed.

Long story:

I have a piece of code which was dependent on python-keyring and
python-keyring-gnome and all was smooth: the default keyring was the
Gnome one and I didn't have to do anything.

Since the update to 0.5.1, I removed the obsolete package
python-keyring-gnome and then, my script started to fail because it
couldn't find the password I had in my keyring.
The problem occurs to be that the default keyring switched to
`keyring.backend.CryptedFileKeyring`, as revealed by
`keyring.get_keyring()`.

I first thought that I now had to configure manually the keyring system
so that it will use the Gnome one, but once I configured the
~/keyringrc.cfg file, I got this error:

 import keyring
 keyring.get_keyring()
keyring.backend.GnomeKeyring object at 0xb7233dec
 keyring.get_password('foo', 'bar')
Traceback (most recent call last):
File stdin, line 1, in module
  File /usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/keyring/core.py, line 30, in

  File /usr/lib/python2.6/dist-packages/keyring/backend.py, line 140, in
get_password
except gnomekeyring.NoMatchError:
NameError: global name 'gnomekeyring' is not defined

I thought that there was a bug in python-keyring, but it occurs that I
was just missing the python-gnomekeyring module, on which python-keyring
now relies on. I think the same problem happens for users which were
using the KDE keyring, though I'm not using it so I can't really say.

May I suggest you to add a 'Suggest: python-gnomekeyring' or something
like that to the python-keyring package?
I'm not really sure how to handle the upgrade process from the previous
version to this one, maybe you could figure a better plan, but I think
this could be the minimum to do.

Thanks,

 Jonathan

Sorry for the late reply, I forgot to test the fix.

I just tried to rebuild the package ConsoleKit with the patch
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=598150#110 mentioned in
#612392 and it fixes the problem for me.

So, I guess this bug can be tagged as duplicate of #612392, but the fix
is really in #598150.

I didn't tried the other patches in #598150, but I may have a look.

Bug#613415: network-manager-gnome: Can't connect to a wireless network and greyed out interface

2011-02-14 Thread Jonathan Ballet
Package: network-manager-gnome
Version: 0.8.2-3
Severity: important

Since I updated from 0.8.1 to 0.8.2, I can't use anymore the nm-applet
application to connect to a wireless network. The symptoms are:

* the Wired and Wireless devices are shown as disconnected, although
  there are wireless networks that show up;

* if I try to connect to a wireless network, nothing happens. On the
console, I have the following output:

** (nm-applet:2410): WARNING **: WARN  activate_connection_cb():
Connection activation failed: No user settings service available

* I can't enable or disable Networking or Wireless when I right
  click on the tray icon, because the entries are greyed out;

* I can edit the settings of the Wireless connections I saved, but I
can't set the flag Available for all users, because it is greyed
  out.

Despite all of this, the wireless system seems to be OK, since I can
connect using wpa_supplicant alone.

Also, I tried to downgrade to NetworkManager 0.8.1-6, which I was using
previously, and it worked as expected.

I provide, attached to this email, the output of the NetworkManager
daemon and nm-applet for the faulty version:

* the daemon log doesn't show anything when I tried to connect to a
  Wireless network;

* the nm-applet log shows what's happenning when I try to connect and
when I try to edit a connection.

Thanks

I restarted my computer several times since I did the upgrade, so both
applications have restarted.

And AFAIK, both versions were 0.8.2.

I'm not sure if the problem lies in the applet or the daemon though.

Bug#494051: eeepc-acpi-modules-2.6.26-1-686 hangs and then oops when unloading

2008-08-06 Thread Jonathan Ballet
Package: eeepc-acpi-modules-2.6.26-1-686
Version: 2.6.26+1.0-1
Severity: important

Hi,

I just updated my EEEPC 701 to linux-2.6.26, using the
eeepc-acpi-modules-2.6.26-1-686 package.

It seemed to work like a charm, but after a while, Fn+F[1-9] shortcuts
don't work anymore.
A few tests later, it seems that if you press Fn+F3 (for eg.)
continuously, shortcuts don't work anymore, whereas if you use them
sparingly, it works OK.

When shortcuts are off, if I try to unload the eeepc-acpi module, I got
a segmentation fault (I join the dmesg message with the oops trace as an
attachment). Subsequent unloading leads to a 'Device or resource busy'
error message.

I can give you more informations if needed, if you tell me what you
need (and how I can give it to you, this if the first I report a bug
against a driver!)

Thanks,
 Jonathan

Bug#465792: virtualbox-ose: cannot start virtualbox due to a undefined symbol stat64 on i386

2008-02-14 Thread Jonathan Ballet
Package: virtualbox-ose
Version: 1.5.4-dfsg-4
Severity: important

Hi,

I use VirtualBox sporadically and today, I'm not able to launch it
anymore. I get this error :

$ virtualbox
/usr/lib/virtualbox/VirtualBox: symbol lookup error:
/usr/lib/virtualbox/VirtualBox: undefined symbol: stat64
$

I tried to remove every package related to VirtualBox (and I hit #462885
btw), but it changes nothing. I tried to remove my ~/.VirtualBox folder,
without success.

I don't know if it's relevant or not, but I'm using a i386 (-686) kernel
on an Athlon64.

I get this error, vboxdrv module loaded or not (I get a warning if
vboxdrv is not loaded, but this is expected I guess).

Just ask if you want more informations.

Thanks,

 - Jonathan

Bug#462255: mpdscribble: Doesn't detect songs changes anymore

2008-01-23 Thread Jonathan Ballet
Package: mpdscribble
Version: 0.2.12-6
Severity: important

Hello,

last week-end, I restarted the mpdscribble daemon, and today, I just see
that all the musics I played throught mpd has not been scrobbled to my
Last.fm account. I upgraded the mpd and libmpd packages last week.

In the mpdscribble's log file, there's no sign of songs changes (despite
mpd has played several songs) :

[2008/01/23 12:38:06] notice: sending password ...
[2008/01/23 12:38:06] notice: connected to mpd 0.13.0 at 127.0.0.1:6600.
[2008/01/23 12:38:06] notice: starting mpdscribble (mdc 0.2.12).
[2008/01/23 12:38:06] notice: (loaded 0 songs from cache)
[2008/01/23 12:38:07] notice: handshake ok.
[2008/01/23 12:38:07] notice: submit url: http://87.117.229.205:80/protocol_1.1
[2008/01/23 12:38:07] notice: interval set to 1 seconds.
[2008/01/23 12:40:44] notice: shutting down...

This log is not very helpful, since it doesn't show any song activity
(of course, this is why I am reporting this bug :-) ), despite I played
and skipped several songs during this laps time (just to test).

I digged into the mpdscribble source code, and it seems it provides it's
own version of libmpdclient. However, there's no version associated with
this library.
So, I tried to recompile the mpdscribble executable against the
system-wide libmpdclient (provided by the libmpd-dev package), and
since, it seems to work much better (new song detected, and the like).

I guess the old (?) libmpdclient provided by mpdscribble is not
compatible with the newer mpd I have on my system, and so, that's why it
didn't work.
Is there any reason not to use the system-wide libmpdclient (despite the
fact the mpdscribble upstream already provides this library) ?
Is it possible to build mpdscribble against it ?
If no, could you look at the bug reported at the beginning of this mail ?

Thanks you,
 - Jonathan

Good to hear it already uses system library :) (I should have checked this by
myself :( )

 Maybe just restart helped?

However, a restart doesn't helped at all, since I did it several times before
digging into the code.

I just tried to purge the package and reinstall it, but it doesn't helped neither. However, I
rebuilt the package (without any modifications), and now it seems to be working ...

Can I provide you others informations in order to find what's happening ?

Bug#462161: etckeeper: Commit uncommited files after installing new package

2008-01-22 Thread Jonathan Ballet
Package: etckeeper
Version: 0.10
Severity: important

Hello,

when installing a new package etckeeper commit modified files, even if
you specified not to commit them before installing the new package.

Step to reproduce :
  1. change some files in /etc
  2. `apt-get install` a new package
  3. etckeeper ask you if you want to commit modified files (which are
uncommited at this step), and you say no (you _don't_ want to commit
them, yet)
  4. apt-get install the new package
  5. it then commit every files in /etc, even files you didn't want to
commit two step before

I guess the behavior of etckeeper is to commit every files after a
package installation. However, it would be very cool if it can filter
out the files which are already in the Git repository, but which are not
staged for commiting (I mean, files from step 3.)

Thanks,

 - Jonathan

Bug#411487: libapache2-mod-python issue seems to be fixed with python2.4 2.4.4-7

2008-01-11 Thread Jonathan Ballet

Hi,

it seems that python2.4 2.4.4-7 fix the issue I got with Django and mod_python.

At least, with the php5-mhash installed and Apache restarted :

  * I can now login into my Django application, whereas I cannot before ;
  * the small test case I included in my first email reports successful
operation,
whereas it failed before.

So it seems everything is good on my side.

Thanks for fixing this annoying bug,

 - Jonathan

Bug#460102: mpd: Socket error when playing to Icecast

2008-01-10 Thread Jonathan Ballet
Package: mpd
Version: 0.13.0-2
Severity: wishlist

Hello,

I used mpd as a Internet Radio, streaming my music throught Icecast,
with the shout type audio output.
It works almost perfectly, because there's a small problem with the
Play functionnality : if I stop the music in mpd, wait few minutes and
then restart it, I got this in my mpd/error.log file :

Jan 10 16:46 : Lost shout connection to localhost:8088 : Socket error
Jan 10 16:46 : problems opening audio device while playing ...
Jan 10 16:46 : problems opening audio device while playing ...

(localhost:8088 is the network address on which Icecast is listening, as
specified in my mpd.conf file)

... and I need to press play several times before mpd starts to play
sound. Sometimes, I need to press play about ten times!

This bug has been reported upstream (see [1]) and it has been fixed in
severals SVN commit (which are reported in [1]).
There's also a workaround in [1] (using a dummy audio output).
However, I would like to know if it's possible to backport those fixes
into the Debian package, because it's a strange and irritating behavior
(since mpd release are not frequent).

Thanks for considerating this (it might be tagged as 'wishlist' instead
of 'important' but this is a real problem, so ...)

Thanks,

 - Jonathan

Bug#455813: French translation update

2007-12-11 Thread Jonathan Ballet
Package: grsync
Version: 0.6-2
Severity: minor
Tags: l10n patch

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---
Hello,

I updated the french translation for grsync, you can find the patch
against 0.6-2 package with this mail.

I only wanted to add a missing / in the bAdditional options/b:
string, but eventually, I updated the whole translation.

Here is a summary of the patch :
 - switched from infinitive mode to imperative mode
 - corrected some typos (/, missing s, etc.)
 - added missing translations strings (and fuzzy translations)
 - etc.

Comments from a translation's specialist are welcome (this is my first
translation, and my first translation patch).

Thanks,

 - Jonathan

Bug#448863: Can't install xserver-xorg package (postinst error)

2007-11-01 Thread Jonathan Ballet
Package: xserver-xorg
Version: 1:7.3+3
Severity: important

Hi,

I just tried to reinstall a system from scratch, but I cannot install Xorg
server,
since the postinst script failed with an error code 10.

I added set -x at the top of /var/lib/dpkg/info/xserver-xorg.postinst to see
what's
happening, and it seems there's a problem with debconf.
However, I lack knowledge on how to fix this. So, currently, Xorg is unusable
for me :(

You can find the output of the postinst script attached to this report.

Thanks,

 - Jonathan

Package: tuxguitar
Version: 0.9.1-3

Hi,

today, I wanted to start tuxguitar to open a gp3 file, but I got the
following error :

I got the same error using Java 5 or Java 6, and I got the same error
when I launch tuxguitar from my 32-bit chroot.

I don't know when the problem started, since I didn't launch tuxguitar
for some weeks ...

Bug#426764: changing parameters crashes nautilus-actions-config

2007-05-30 Thread Jonathan Ballet
Package: nautilus-actions
Version: 1.4-1
Severity: important

--- Please enter the report below this line. ---
Hello,

it seems changing the parameters field in the Add a New Action
causes a segmentation fault if the value is not correct, _after_ a
correct value has been set.

Step to reproduce :
 1. Launch nautilus-actions-config and click on Add to create a new
action
 2. In the Parameters field at the bottom on the window, enter a
value, like %f
 3. Now, delete the f character

I attach the complete backtrace to this, if it can help ...

I think it could be better if this setting is set to '/usr/share/slony1'

Bug#411487: libapache2-mod-python: md5 calculation conflicts with php5-mhash module

2007-02-19 Thread Jonathan Ballet
Package: libapache2-mod-python
Version: 3.2.10-3
Severity: important

Hello,

I wanted to deploy a new Django application today, but it didn't work :(
It failed with a SuspiciousOperation exception, which appears to be
related to sessions, which in turns use md5.

You can find some reference to this bug, already reported on the
mod_python mailing list in [1], and a workaround in [2].

I join the test case from [1] in this bug :
 - with php5-mhash installed and activated in Apache, all tests failed
 - after purging php5-mhash AND restarting Apache, all tests passed

So, it seems it's directly related to libmhash2 (as [2] suggests).

I can reproduce on sid-i386. On etch-x86_64, it seems that Apache2
segfault (without php5-mhash, everything is ok) :

[Mon Feb 19 13:31:10 2007] [notice] mod_python: (Re)importing module 'test'
[Mon Feb 19 13:31:10 2007] [notice] child pid 16238 exit signal Segmentation
fault (11)

I think this bug is RC-critical for Etch. However, I'll let
libapache2-mod-python maintainers tag it as appropriate.
I report against libapache2-mod-python, since this is the package
which seems to be affected by the bug. However, feel free to reassign
to php5-mhash or libmhash2.

Thanks !

Bug#405479: sound-juicer: Cannot rip a cd : Error starting ripping pipeline

2007-01-03 Thread Jonathan Ballet
Package: sound-juicer
Version: 2.14.5-1
Severity: important

Hello;

I tried to convert an audio disc to ogg, and I got those errors (in
dialog box) :
Sound Juicer could not extract this CD.
Reason: This CD has no audio tracks

and then

Sound Juicer could not extract this CD.
Reason: Error starting ripping pipeline

After that, sound-juicer segfaults :

$ sound-juicer
(sound-juicer:5439): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_source_remove: assertion `tag 0'
failed
zsh: segmentation fault sound-juicer
$

I get this error with various CDs, from an old one from 1990 (but still
in good shape), to newer one from 2002.
None of them have additionnal contents on it, they are plain old audio
disc. And sound-juicer successfully find tracks' name on Music Brainz (?).

I can provide additionnal informations if needed.

Thanks,
 - Jonathan

Bug#401616: python-django: manage.py is not executable and has no shebang

Hello,

I just noticed that, when a new project is created, the 'manage.py' file
created is not executable, and it has no shebang.

The diff file of python-django's package seems to remove the shebang, I
don't know for the executable flag.

Why this behavior ?

Thanks,

Bug#401270: splashy: progress bar doesn't work : Cannot test file /proc/cmdline

2006-12-02 Thread Jonathan Ballet
Package: splashy
Version: 0.2.1
Severity: important

Hello,

I just reinstalled splashy on my workstation, and when there is a
problem with the progress bar.

When my computer boot on, the boot's image appears, but the progress bar
doesn't move at all.
If I hit the ESC key, I am redirected on the second (maybe another ?) tty
(instead of the first one, where boot's messages are printed).

In the first tty, there is this message :
==
INIT: version 2.86 booting
Starting Boot splash manager: splashySplashy ERROR: Cannot test file
/proc/cmdline

..
==
(and then, other boot's messages).

At computer shutdown, there is another error, which says something like
Splashy cannot regenerate image. I can provide more help if needed.

Thanks,
 - Jonathan

Purging splashy package cause the problem to disapear.

It seems to be due to the set -u command, at the beginning of
/etc/init.d/mysql script, which cause the script to abort, since
$RUNLEVEL is not defined. Other init.d's scripts like Apache doesn't set
this flag, but I don't know what is the correct behavior to have in this
case.

 should not use uninitialized variables.
Did you create this script? Or else, can you show me the output of:

$ dpkg -S /etc/lsb-base-logging.sh
splashy: /etc/lsb-base-logging.sh

So, this is related to splashy.
Others init.d's scripts (like the one for Apache) are calling this
script too. However, since they are not using set -u at the beginning
of the script, Apache init.d script's does not trigger this error (but
the problem is same : $RUNLEVEL is not defined).

Bug#400277: horde3 should recommand php-db

2006-11-24 Thread Jonathan Ballet
Package: horde3
Version: 3.1.3-2
Severity: normal

Hello,

I just install horde3, and I configured it to use a MySQL database to
store user (authentification backend), preferences, etc.

However, without the php-db package, this configuration is unusable.
Horde3 failed to start with a message saying it cannot include 'DB.php'.

So, I think horde3 should suggest to use this package, or, at least,
give a better message. I don't know what is the best option ...

Bug#369608: inkscape 0.43-5 does not start

2006-06-07 Thread Jonathan Ballet
Hello,

same problem here :
 - Debian Sid i386
 - inkscape 0.43-5
 - libgc1c2 6.7-1

However, switching back libgc1c2 to 6.6-2 (with testing package) seems to solve
the problem (at
least, inkscape starts).

If it can help ...

Bug#350723: Tip

2006-04-11 Thread Jonathan Ballet
I can reproduce too, since the beginning I use pgadmin (some months ago).

However, I found that pressing Alt+F open the File menu, and then, the mouse
and the keyboard starts
to work as normal.

This is just a tip, not really a good solution ... Hope it could save some
works ;)

Regards,
Jonathan

Bug#359792: cannot upgrade or remove if lighttpd server not started

2006-03-28 Thread Jonathan Ballet
Package: lighttpd
Version: 1.4.11-3
Severity: important

Hello,

I noticed that the 'stop' command on lighttpd service fails if lighttpd
is not started, which causes the pre-removal script to exit with an
error code of 1.
In this case, dpkg stop the removal of the package.
Very easy to reproduce.

So, this bug disallows to upgrade or to remove the lighttpd package.

Bug#350049: Correction

I just saw that notify-daemon and notification-daemon are two different
packages. So you can drop the comment about comparing both systems.

However, the bug is still valid ;)

Bug#350049: notify-daemon: notification popups are unreadable

2006-01-26 Thread Jonathan Ballet
Package: notify-daemon
Version: 0.3.1-1
Severity: normal

Hello,

I'm using notify-daemon with Gajim (GTK Jabber client).
Gajim displays popups when a contact connects or when I receive a
message.

However, the way those popups are rendering is nearly unreadable (see
attached screenshot).

I had notification-daemon from experimental before, until notify-daemon
came into SID, and popup rendering was not the same as notify-daemon :
it was a _lot_ clearer.

So, I guess the problem came from notify-daemon (since I haven't change
anything from Gajim). However, there's not much debian documentation or
even galago documentation on it ...

What could be done to improve this situation ?

Bug#348595: alacarte: Reset 'Desktop' menu when starts

2006-01-17 Thread Jonathan Ballet
Package: alacarte
Version: 0.8-3

alacarte allows you to customize your 'Desktop' menu. If you make any change in
it, and then close alacarte, everything is
fine.
However, if you restarts it, the menu is reset to default. So all your
modifications are lost.

This problem doesn't happen for the 'Applications' menu.
No output on stdout.
