Given the name of the local trace file
 http://ftp.debianclub.org/debian/project/trace/debianclub.org I think we
will swap Site: and Aliases:, unless your local trace file is named
 ftp.debianclub.org

I have now hard-coded $HOSTNAME in the script to
ftp.debianclub.org. So, the trace should be changed in the
next round.

  Type: leaf
  Archive-ftp: /debian/
  Archive-http: /debian/

It seems you use anonftpsync and all the recommanded Apache parameters,
 so it's perfect.

  Mirrors-from: ftp.es.debian.org

Check, maybe a mirror closer to your server is available.

I did choose this site among *all* available official mirrors
based on netselect result. So, it's supposed to already be
the best choice I can get:

  372 ftp.hk.debian.org
  532 ftp.es.debian.org
  646 ftp.nl.debian.org
  692 ftp.tr.debian.org
  722 ftp2.de.debian.org
  742 ftp.at.debian.org
  774 ftp.ie.debian.org
  821 ftp.fr.debian.org
  844 ftp.jp.debian.org
  942 ftp.sk.debian.org

That was at the setup time. And the result at current time is:

  260 ftp.hk.debian.org
  512 ftp.es.debian.org
  523 ftp.cz.debian.org
  574 ftp.pl.debian.org
  643 ftp.no.debian.org
  644 ftp.fr.debian.org
  650 ftp2.de.debian.org
  655 ftp.se.debian.org
  657 ftp.nl.debian.org
  686 ftp.hr.debian.org

The really closest site, hk, however, does not provide rsync service.
So, es is still the best choice for me.

In the comment field, useful information about the available bandwidth
and the update frequency are welcome.

It's updated twice a day, at 10:00 and 22:00 UTC
(estimated times when the official mirrors should be synchronized,
and fortunately still coincide with low-traffic times for local
network). But this can be changed.

I don't have info about the available bandwidth, though. It's kindly
donated by a major ISP in Thailand. So, it's supposed to be fast.
(And it is.) But as it's not paid for, I just try to use it mainly for
serving domestic users, and to help save international bandwidth
usage.

It should be nice to ship robots.txt provided by upstream. Although
.htaccess has been set up with -Index so search engines do not have any
chance to craw through file system structure, some of these pages can
still be directly linked from the front page or external sites.

by bugzilla #336959, I've backported the checked-in patch to 1.8 branch.
Please consider if it's possible to apply. See the attached debdiff.

Bug#430624: [Pkg-alsa-devel] Bug#430624: alsa-utils: alsaconf wrongly calls init script

I can just confirm this behaviour, but the script alsaconf is

driver, which should be loaded with index -2. Please have a look at
/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base and /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base-blacklist.

After posting the report, I had checked it more. The actually
required driver for me is snd-hda-intel. The output
/etc/modprobe.d/sound correctly specifies this, but the module is not
automatically loaded by alsaconf. Niether by /etc/init.d/alsa force-reload.
Only manual modprobe works.

I haven't tried rebooting, though.

postinst then

udevtrigger works. The module gets loaded.

Why postinst, anyway? I think it would be nice to invoke it
from alsaconf, so sound works immediately after config
as before.

Bug#430624: alsa-utils: alsaconf wrongly calls init script

2007-06-25 Thread Theppitak Karoonboonyanan

Package: alsa-utils
Version: 1.0.14-1
Severity: normal

At a very last stage of alsaconf, it complains:

- --- 8 ---
Loading driver...
Usage: /etc/init.d/alsa
{unload|reload|force-unload|force-reload|suspend|resume}
Setting default volumes...
amixer: Mixer attach default error: No such device
- --- 8 ---

The init script does not accept 'restart' argument as passed by
alsaconf (/usr/sbin/alsaconf, line 992).

As a quick hack, I try changing it to 'reload', and the first error
is gone. But the second one remains. I need to manually modprobe the
sound driver (snd-intel8x0m for my machine) to use sound.

Bug#427705: pango-libthai: rebuild against pango1.0-modver-1.6.0

On 6/6/07, Adeodato Simó [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

libpango1.0-0 no longer provides pango1.0-modver-1.5.0, but -1.6.0, so
pango-libthai needs a rebuild. This can't be done automatically because
the debian/install file needs to be updated to reflect the new location
of modules (1.5.0 - 1.6.0).

You can also make the location generic ('usr/lib/pango/*/modules/*.so'),
so that this kind of rebuilds can happen without the need for an upload
in the future.

Please upload with urgency=high, and let me know if you need sponsoring
and/or are busy and would welcome a NMU.

Thanks for your report. However, the package is now obsolete. It's
currently conflicted by its dependency, libpango1.0-0 (= 1.14.10-1),
making it uninstallable in sid anyway.

Moreover, pango-libthai code has now been incorporated in upstream
pango, which is the reason of the conflict, and which makes it unneeded
in debian any more.

Therefore, I don't think it needs a fix now. And I have filed Bug #427129
against ftp.debian.org for its removal. Just waiting.

pango-libthai code has been incorporated in upstream pango.
And libpango1.0-0 (= 1.14.10-1) has since conflicted with it,
making it uninstallable in unstable anyway.

So, it's now useless and unneeded in unstable. But for testing,
it's still a valid package.

As for build dependencies, i would use libxul-dev, make the required

I had done exactly that before getting back to the package's
current approach, except the last step. As a result, libxul-0d
was pulled in as extra dependency.

So, what I missed seemed to be the last step.
But as you said below:

The latter would be temporary, until I
fix the xulrunner-plugin.pc file back (which has a dependency on
xulrunner-xpcom because of #413964, which was better to fix in xulrunner
 than on its reverse dependencies).

That means, we had better wait for that bug to be fixed before
making further change..

Now that xulrunner 1.8.1.4-1 has arrived sid with the new
xulrunner-plugin.pc, I propose this patch which I had done
at first thought, but with irrelevant cosmetic changes removed,
including the plugin directory.

It's now built with libxul-dev. libxul-0d is not pulled in now.

Let me try to reproduce it again. I'm not sure what happened
during the tests that made it gone.

 Blah, I hate Heisenbugs. :-(

Update: This upstream bug may explain it:

Thai input does not work when NumLock/CapsLock is on

So, with the patch applied, you may try adding back
the unfortunately doomed patch.

Bug#423585: amaya: Please remove or lower dependency on ttf-freefont

2007-05-12 Thread Theppitak Karoonboonyanan

Package: amaya
Version: 9.54~dfsg.0-1
Severity: minor

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

ttf-freefont is undesirable for some languages, as its high Unicode
coverage makes it override all language-specific fonts in default
program configurations.

Amaya's dependency on it would leave users at fewer choices, when
ttf-freefont intrudes in web pages, programs GUI, etc. And its
quality is somewhat compromised for different writing systems.
Line spacing is the most visible issue, for example.

So, please consider dropping the dependency, or at least lower it
to recommends if some of its features is really critical and cannot
be found in other fonts.

Bug#418837: shlibs

2007-04-28 Thread Theppitak Karoonboonyanan

I have been waiting for the new swfdec plugin for a while, but it has
been blocked by this bug. So, I've tried to fix it for my own use.

At first, it looks weird to me to have build-dependency on iceape-dev
but then pull in libnspr4 (which is actually libnspr4-0d in the archive)
for the actual shared object to link. So, I tried to build it against
libxul-dev instead. As a result, libxul-0d would become an additional
dependency, which may be undesirable for iceape/iceweasel users.

Is this the reason for iceape-dev build-dep and hard-coded libnspr4[-0d]
dependency, as oppose to libxul-dev build-dep? But then,
iceape/iceweasel users would end up having duplicated libnspr4.so in
its own browser package and in libnspr4-0d anyway.

Meanwhile, if iceape-browser provides shlibs file, the shared objects
from libnspr4-0d will be satisfied by the iceape-browser itself. But
that would mean horrible dependency for non-iceape users.

Nonetheless, I get back to the current approach, and spin a patch
to fix libnspr4-0d dependency, as attached. With this, I also change
the location of iceweasel plug-in from mozilla-firefox to iceweasel,
and add installation for xulrunner as well. I've tested it with both
iceweasel and epiphany, and it works.

Bug#419595: libpango1.0-udeb: undesirable new dependencies

2007-04-19 Thread Theppitak Karoonboonyanan

On 4/20/07, Josselin Mouette [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

AFAIK these libraries are only needed by the Thai language module, not
by the pango library itself.

I don't know how critical this module is to proper Thai support in the
installer. Theppitak, do you know about it?

It provides proper line wrapping for Thai messages.
As Thai words are not delimited by spaces, missing it would
mean that some long continuous texts would exceed
screen boundary and be wrapped at random positions,
and the right margin of normal texts would be heavily
ragged, due to relative lack of line break positions.

OTOH, achieving it costs around 900 KB additional memory
(roughly measured by the difference between loading leafpad
with and without pango-thai-lang module).

So, it's a trade-off. If that's too much for marginal improvement,
we can drop it from d-i. (So far, I haven't heard users'
complaint about this on Etch installer yet. But I can't be sure
if that means they are OK with it. Not all of them install
Debian with GUI installer.)

If it is necessary to have it, we can split the thai module in a
separate udeb to avoid the dependency inflation. Otherwise, we can
simply remove it from the udeb.

IMO, this issue is not so critical, as long messages are rare
in d-i, compared to usual desktop apps, and we have the
whole screen as the space, not varying window sizes.

Indeed. I only checked experimental and missed that fix in unstable.

 attached manpage?

Done. Please find it in the attachment.

I have re-checked it by trying the program. It's valid for both
gnome-utils 2.14 and 2.16.

In GNOME 2.18, however, more options have been introduced,
which were described in my first post. (That is, I happened to run
the program from my jhbuild GNOME 2.18 while writing it, which
was wrong, but that means it will need update in 2.18 upload.)

Note that I have also fixed some errors:
 - expand lt; and gt; in dhemail entity
 - remove brackets in --delay [=INT] because the argument
   is mandatory.
 - add SEE ALSO gtk-options(7)
So, please also check if such changes are OK.

Ah; I'm likely to prepare that now. Can you send the SGML for 2.18?
I'll commit it once 2.18 is ready.

Yes. Here you are.

The culprit seems to be 031_cursor-blinking-timeout.patch.
Try removing it and the bug is gone.

As stated in the patch comment, this is from trunk. That can
explain the difference with my jhbuild gtk-2-10 branch.

 Can you try jhbuilding trunk?

 I got the following comment:
14:23 mclasen lool: if the blink timeout breaks an IM, that IM makes some
 unwarranted assumptions, I'd say

That assumption is that the widget must call
gtk_im_context_filter_keypress() with event-state cleared
on corresponding bits for unpressed modifier keys. Is that
unwarranted? :-/

However, oddly enough, I added the patch back to debug it.
The bug does not come back again!!

So, I reverted to the official deb. It's completely gone!!

Let me try to reproduce it again. I'm not sure what happened
during the tests that made it gone.

The first one I found was Epiphany URL bar.
Then, it happenned with gaim message box.
Keyword entry in gnome-dictionary is also affected.
Gedit just crashes on start up. So, I had no chance to
test it yet.

So, I'm quite sure it's problem in GTK+ itself.

The versions of the mentioned packages are:

$ dpkg -l epiphany-browser gaim gnome-utils gedit
Desired=Unknown/Install/Remove/Purge/Hold

ii gnome-utils2.16.2-1 GNOME desktop utilities

Could you attach your /etc/gtk-2.0/gtk.immodules file?

I guess you mean
/usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.10.0/immodule-files.d/libgtk2.0-0.immodules

Ok; there's a new upstream release, .10, which fixes at least one IM
 problem:
329450Crash on IM switch ... (was already reported earlier)

But it doesn't look like yours.

No, I don't think it's upstream bug. As I said in the first post,
my another installation from upstream source via jhbuild

Could you try the Gtk at:

This is certainly related to pango (as shows disabling pango in
iceweasel) and most probably related to the pango-libthai package.

libpango1.0-0: /usr/lib/pango/1.5.0/modules/pango-thai-fc.so

The file actually belongs to libpango1.0-0, not pango-libthai.

Bug#401394: /lib/splashy missing on fresh install, blocking progress bar

2006-12-02 Thread Theppitak Karoonboonyanan

Package: splashy
Version: 0.2.1
Severity: important

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

On fresh install, splashy shows splash screen, but its progress bar
does not progress. I find this chunk in /etc/lsb-base-logging.sh may be
where the updates are skipped:

40 # Start splashy code
41 SPL_UPD=/sbin/splashy_update
42 SPL_PRG=/lib/splashy/$RUNLEVEL-progress
43
44 if [ -x $SPL_UPD -a -f $SPL_PRG ]; then
 ...

I check it and find /lib/splashy directory totally missing.
Thus, the progress is never made. And manually doing
'mkdir /lib/splashy' just solves the problem.

installing process to the end.

Last time I looked at it, babel.sty differed from tetex-base's version

OK. I have just added the subversion from v3.8d to v3.8d.thai1.

I haven't adopted the part that he suggested to Conflicts:

 my decision is wrong.

I'm not sure, I also have the impression that, with the existing

were installed before the dist-upgrade? The problem is, I can't
reproduce it when just installing thailatex, because tetex-base gets
unpacked before it, and its new version no longer installs that file.
 You're using apt-get dist-upgrade, aren't you?

Yes, via piuparts. Here the command used:

piuparts -a -d sarge -d etch gnupg jtex-base jmpost latex209-base jadetex
thailatex dvipdfmx abntex ptex-bin ptex-base tetex-extra jlatex209-base tex4ht
passivetex libkpathsea-perl tetex-brev hlatex latex.service

I have been working on it. I can reproduce it with a debootstrapped
sarge chroot. And I've asked debian-mentors for the solution:
 http://lists.debian.org/debian-mentors/2006/10/msg00243.html
It seems Steve Langasek's solution can solve it.

Sorry for not responding in the first place.

It seems Steve Langasek's solution can solve it.

Let me summarize the problem:

The diversion couldn't be removed because the babel.sty file
still exists, not because of the old tetex-base's ownership
(because the file is being diverted, the tetex-base's version
should be diverted to babel.sty.real) but because of thailatex's
own version.

Steve's solution is to remove the diversion at postinst, by
tricking dpkg-divert by moving away the newly installed
babel.sty before removing the diversion, and then moving
it back afterward. He has been careful in making the script
work even if it's called many times.

I haven't adopted the part that he suggested to Conflicts:
and Replaces: tetex-base (3.0), anyway. Blame me if
my decision is wrong.

Summarized change (with debdiff) is attached.

  Description : Double-array trie library

Trie is a kind of digital search tree, an efficient indexing method with
O(1) time complexity for searching. Comparably as efficient as hashing,
trie also provides flexibility on incremental matching and key spelling
manipulation. This makes it ideal for lexical analyzers, as well as
spelling dictionaries.
.
This is an implementation of double-array structure for representing trie,
as proposed by Junichi Aoe. The details of the implementation can be found
at http://linux.thai.net/~thep/datrie/datrie.html

Bug#391768: Please update debconf PO translation for the package exim4 4.63-4.0

2006-10-08 Thread Theppitak Karoonboonyanan

You are noted as the last translator of the debconf translation for
exim4.

These templates have been changed by the package maintainer to better
integrate with Debian Installer. This translation is part of level 3 of
D-I translations.

We would be grateful if you could take the time and update it.

Done. Please find the updated Thai PO in the attachment.

Great, if you planned an upload with similar changes, please upload the
package with the proposed patch: it will avoid fixed bugs which need
an ack and will close these for good! Beside, you probably know how to
test your package better than I do!

However, if you can't upload right now, I can go on an NMU.

OK. I have built the new package with adjusted patch (dropping
libpango-1.0-common dep as well). And it now works even without
/etc/pango/pango.modules file.

It will be uploaded by my sponsor soon.

I missed the original report, sorry. The mail from Debian BTS didn't
show up well enough to catch my attention, despite a careful mail
filter configuration. :( (This is not the first time I wish Debian BTS
to send direct mail to maintainer, rather than just to the bug number.
Or constantly polling QA page is the best way to be aware of bug
reports.)

Yes, I noticed the change in the new libpango changelog two days
ago, and was about to build a new release, until your second comment
arrived, and I accidentally noticed. :P And the change in your patch is
exactly what I planned to do. So, please go on.

Thank you for your patch.

Thank you for the fix, and for Aurelien Jarno's report.

My mail box has quite high traffic, and, since the mails were not

Hmm.. there should be some way to get mails from BTS automatically
directed to maintainer, rather than just to the bug, eh? So far, I got
noticed of bug reports in my packages by occasionally checking QA

This package should probably build-depends on libgtk2.0-bin

Actually, the build-depends is unnecessary. It's a bug in upstream
Makefile. I'll fix this in next upstream release.

Rather, it should be just depends instead, as it's used in postinst,
postrm. So, it will be changed in next upload.

Bug#377355: kbd-chooser: Rewritten Patch

Package: kbd-chooser
Followup-For: Bug #377355

Sorry that I had not tested the previous patch. kbd-chooser source is
actually similar to kbd, not console-tools. Please replace it with
this one. I have verified that it compiles.

circular dependency will be removed.

Furthermore, you should use the update-pango-modules script instead of
calling pango-querymodules directly. This way we will be able to make
pango comply with the FHS by moving away the pango.modules file.

Thank you for your suggestion.

I have added the dependency on libpango1.0-common and used
update-pango-modules in postinst and postrm. Now I'm preparing
for upload. However, I don't quite understand about the circular
dependency problem. Could you give more info?

Umm.. I have also replaced the hard-coded dependencies
with ${shlibs:Depends}, ${misc:Depends} and , as a result,
dependency on libpango1.0-0 is now gone. Is this related
to the problem you mentioned?

Currently, there is a circular dependency between libpango1.0-0 and
libpango1.0-common. This is why by chance your package works while not
depending on libpango1.0-common. However this circular dependency will -
hopefully soon - be fixed in pango and your package will stop working.

I see. Thanks for clarifying.

 with ${shlibs:Depends}, ${misc:Depends} and , as a result,
dependency on libpango1.0-0 is now gone. Is this related

No, this is probably because the module doesn't link directly to one of
the libpango*-1.0.so.0 libraries. You can check the output of 'ldd -r
yourmodule.so' for unresolved symbols.

If there are no missing symbols, this is harmless, because
libpango1.0-common will still depend on libpango1.0-0.

It's actually caused by a bug in upstream configure script
(which is also maintained by me).

As upstream maintainer, I would like to fix this by releasing
a new upstream version, which has also gathered some
other fixes to time. And as debian package maintainer, I
would like to wait for that, rather than patching the package
and getting overridden very soon.

That means it may take a couple of days before this bug
is fixed.

Bug#377579: kbd: ACM translation files not supported

2006-07-10 Thread Theppitak Karoonboonyanan
Package: kbd
Version: 1.12-14
Severity: normal

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

I have migrated from console-tools to kbd recently. There seems to
be a compatibility issue.

When trying to set Thai console font for 8-bit applications using
  setfont tis-phaisarn.f16 -m tis620
command, I got this error:
mapscrn: cannot open map file _tis620_

In mapscrn.c, this line indicates that the
/usr/share/consoletrans/tis620.acm.gz file from console-data 20060609
won't be searched for:
  static char *mapsuffixes[] = { , .trans, _to_uni.trans, 0 };

By copying tis620.acm.gz to tis620_to_uni.trans.gz, it just works.

So, I wonder whether kbd should also look for the .acm files
for backward compatibility, or console-data should also provide the
.trans version of existing .acm files.

Feel free to reassign this bug to console-data if it's the case.

Bug#377032: choose-mirror: protocol question should be critical

2006-07-06 Thread Theppitak Karoonboonyanan
Package: install
Severity: normal

-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

For testing, I tried using g-i snapshot to install debian from
a local FTP mirror. At the choose-mirror step, I chose
enter information manually, and entered host name and directory.
However, there was no entry for the protocol. As a result, the
installer defaulted to http, and kept trying to get the Release
file via HTTP. Worse than that, the operation can't be cancelled.
So, rebooting was the only way to get out.

Looking at choose-mirror source, the protocol question is
there with medium priority, which I think should be sensible
to be at the same level as the host and directory questions,
critical.

I think you mean high, which is the default priority.

Yes, if that's the case.

http is a sensible and working default for almost all installs.

Not quite true in some conditions. For example, most HTTP
accesses in Thailand are filtered by transparent proxies,
according to government policy to control web accesses.
Using apt through HTTP often gets stuck by poor proxies,
which may do some content scanning on the way.

So, FTP is usually recommended in most cases, especially
for dial-up or home ADSL users.

If you
want use ftp, you have three options:
- do an install in expert mode (booting with 'expert')

I have also tried this. I was not asked the protocol question.

- do an install at medium priority (booting with
  'install debconf/priority=medium')
- set the protocol when the installer is booted (booting with
  'install mirror/protocol=ftp'

I may try these. However, for my case, I use local FTP
just because I have it available. But for general users
who face such proxy problem, the HTTP of FTP question
should be more helpful than confusing, especially if it
can save time from rebooting to supply boot options.

Regards,
