[Bug 555539] [NEW] evolution calendar cranshed when adding task on a particular time

2010-04-05 Thread PresuntoRJ
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I am not sure if it really an evolution problem or some other related
package...

When I have clicked on an empty time of a particular date to try to
create a new task for that schedule, not only evolutions turned gray,
for ever, but my session has frozen (only the mouse still moved and I
could login to textual consoles via Ctrl+F1) forcing me to
Ctrl+Alt+Bkspc (which I have enabled in me gnome keyboard settings)

There was also an evolution-data-server something to report via apport-
bug but it refused to repport (could be related, cause it has shown up
after the crash)

I can reproduce the error at will, since it happens every single time I
try it (and I to need to terminate the entire gnome session every time)

I can try some tests or send some log files if necessary, but I am not
sure what to try... please, let me know if its necessary

[Bug 555539] Re: evolution calendar cranshed when adding task on a particular time

2010-04-05 Thread PresuntoRJ
It might be uglier than I have reported a short while ago... since then,
I have been testing a relatively conservative way of trying the same
thing, to avoid the crash...

 I have then pressed the New button on the tools bar... it has also
crashed the evolution at least, my session is still responding this
time

I have been wondering if the previous crashes had something to do with
the way evolution links its schedules in the gnome calendar which
appears when you click on the clock in the top panel (not sure what the
name of that applet also)...

[Bug 555554] [NEW] gnome-panel does not display new panels

2010-04-05 Thread Spencer W
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Right clicking on an existing Gnome panel and choosing New Panel does
not produce the desired result of creating said new panel. This new
panel can neither be seen nor interacted with - right clicking on where
it should be produces a nautilus context menu, not a gnome-panel one.
However, maximized windows do no fill the 24 pixel space that the panel
would take up if it existed. When I run 'killall gnome-panel', the new

[Bug 495723] Re: the copy action doesn't work in the second after a directory load

2010-04-05 Thread Marcus Carlson
Starcraftmazter , actually you shouldn't install it as it's a dirty
hack. But if you'd like to try it, grab nautilus from git and apply the
patch and compile. Something along this lines (not tested)

$ sudo apt-get build-dep nautilus
$ git clone git.gnome.org/nautilus
$ cd nautilus
$ patch -p1  hack-copy.diff
$ ./autogen
$ make
$ sudo chmod -x /usr/bin/nautilus
$ src/nautilus -q
$ src/nautilus

when done testing

Or it might be update evolution (2.28.3-0ubuntu7) to 2.28.3-0ubuntu8 ,
both happened on the same day :s

[Bug 553200] Re: Mouse and keyboard stop working after selecting user

2010-04-05 Thread macstevejb
Having the same problem with Lucid Beta 1 using nvidia v96 driver.

The only way I can start x and boot to gnome desktop is to bypass gdm
altogether.

Clearly it has sometjhing to do with the way gdm interacts with said
nvidia graphics.

I have been testing Lucid since Alpha 3 and this only started happening
after updates on April 1st.

Incidentally, I have another box using the same graphics card but no
proprietory drivers installed. Using the default Nouveau driver, I have
no problems with gdm login.

[Bug 555603] Re: my rhythmbox player radio crashed

2010-04-05 Thread Nigel Babu
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description didn't include
enough information. You may find it helpful to read How to report bugs
effectively http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be
grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.
We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.
At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the
appropriate application's Help - Report a Problem menu or using
'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more
about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

PDFs containing bitmaps (scanned PDF documents for example) are

[Bug 134948] Re: required password length for users should be the same as pam.d/common-password

2010-04-05 Thread Milan Bouchet-Valat
Yes, I'll have to fix that string, but that will be for Lucid+1.

We can't really remove these checks because when changing password for a
user different than the current one, PAM doesn't check the password,
which is set using 'chpasswd'. The current situation is pretty lame, but
we'd have to parse PAM's config files in the backends and get the
information from there... Using PAM in the backends would be better, but
we don't support conversation in the protocol, and that would be very
hard to implement without breaking all the other gnome-system-tools. Not
likely to happen.

[Bug 254980] Re: Calendar displays appointments/meetings at incorrect times

2010-04-05 Thread kamome
I'm seeing this on lucid.
Using local time (hwclock and date show the same time (Germany)), an
appointment's time in evolution proper is being displayed correctly, the time
of the same appointment in the panel's calendar is off by two hours; also, a
notification that I set is not being displayed (at either time).
Ticking Use system time zone from Edit Preferences Calendar and Tasks
fixes the behaviour for me (the times are correct in both places and the
notification is being displayed). The default should be to use the same time
throughout the system, this is what one would expect - should there be a _very_

[Bug 548891] Re: keyboard input broken at gnome login prompt after package updates

2010-04-05 Thread Charles Redman
After a little more research and VM building, this is what i find.

I can reproduce this problem with Ubuntu as guest on the following
operating systems.

Ubuntu Karmic 64-bit
Mac OSX Snow Leopard
Windows XP
Windows 7
VMWare ESXi 4.0

For the most part, the problem is identical. Everything works with Lucid Beta 1
as the guest, up until applying updates
after that i can no longer log in with the same symptoms as previously reported
on all of them, with the exception of Karmic. Karmic does not work from the get
go, if i do a basic install of Lucid running on a Karmic host, the keyboard
works but is mapped to the wrong keys and i have to use the onscreen keyboard
to login. No matter what option i choose in under keyboard preferences after
loggin in i cannot get the keyboard to map properly. After applying the updates
to Lucid on the Karmic host it then mirrors the problems experienced with all
the other hosts. The keyboard flat out does not work anymore.

Now the one thing i have noticed is that Lucid does not seem to pickup
its keyboard mappings correctly for any of my hosts, when i say that, i
mean it defaults to USA/USA as language and keyboard layout even though
i have set it to use UK/UK as the language and keyboard layout.

I am assuming the reason some of us can work and some can't is because
those that can are using a USA/USA layout.

Again, i am happy to test anything on any of the VM's i have should
anyone wish to get to the bottom of this problem.

I am not sure the onscreen keyboard problem is necessarily exactly the
bug listed above, as that was submitted in Feb and even though nothing
has been resolved with it, Beta 1 shipped after that and the onscreen
keyboard works in that release. Subsequent updates seem to have broken
that again so i am sure its just a variation of it. I have experience
exactly that bug but on a physical machine running Lucid and not in a
VM.

[Bug 546242] Re: battery fully charged notification appears as soon as AC power plugged in

2010-04-05 Thread Joe Pearson
* Removed power
* Ran the command killall gnome-power-manager gnome-power-manager --verbose
21 | tee gpm.log
* Reattached power
* Different behaviour:
  - The power manager icon in the notification area immediately disappeared,
and there was no tooltip - but the power manager output did show a line -
tooltip: Laptop battery is fully charged

* Removed power and let it run down to about 65%
* Ran command killall gnome-power-manager  gnome-power-manager --verbose
21 | tee gpm-2.log
* Waited a while
* Reattached power
* Notification battery fully charged did appear, and power icon disappeared
* After about 20s, power icon reappeared
* power manager stopped

Attaching gpm.log and gpm-2.log.

To reproduce the main issue in Lucid:

1. Right click the top panel and select New Panel. Nothing seems to happen.
2. Right click the top panel and select Add to Panel... and add e.g. the

Alternatively at least logout+login makes the panel visible.

[Bug 555657] [NEW] Print Preview Pages do not show Page Allignment

2010-04-05 Thread M.Saad Siddiqui
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

There is problem with printing of a PDF document. The document pages do
not get aligned like in Adobe Reader. Pages get aligned in a frustrating
manner. After printout, we get 2nd page before each 1st page!

Also the print preview facility is ugly. The print preview should show
all the pages and their alignment, and not the individual pages
themselves. Within print preview, large size thumbnails of pages should
be shown with their proper alignment as selected from the print dialog
like if Right to Left, Top to Bottom was selected, then the print
preview show show this alignment during preview.

The alignment options given in print dialog seems faulty or missing. If any
Page Ordering option is selected, it shows pages in a vertical order like:
1 2 3
4 5 6

Question: What if I don't want my document pages printed horizontally?

I wanted my document pages printed vertically, like:
1 2
3 4
5 6

I have done this type of printing a lot via Adobe Reader, but using
Evince, I was unable to print-out my pages in this order/alignment.

This is definitely a problem with the guest not detecting the keyboard
mappings or saving them. For some reason it insists on using American
layout settings even if i log in an apply them system wide.

The only way i can use my machine at this point in time is to set it to

have to do is change the keyboard layout.

[Bug 537958] Re: genre tab displays numbers in magnatune catalogue instead of genre names

2010-04-05 Thread Pedro Villavicencio
This has been fixed upstream now:

Fixed in commit 044ed3c7. The Magnatune catalogue has 2 separate genre tags.
One is 'mp3genre', which we were using before. That one has the numbers in it.
The other is 'magnatunegenres', which has a comma-separated list of genres. So
the plugin now uses that for the tracks in the Magnatune source.

Downloaded files still have the numbers in the genre field, but there's nothing
we can do about that.

it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Can you try with

If it remains an issue, could you also attach a new /var/log/Xorg.0.log?
Thanks in advance.

Pasted in XMPP console for GoogleTalk account makes you invisible:

Actually it changes status to unavailable but GoogleTalk server tries
to deliver the message anyway so it works as invisibility (kind of). It
depends on the other side's client if it's user sees you on-line or off-
line after the successful message delivery (you should be off-line,

Ok, I solved my problem.

After seeing the above message (#93) I over-wrote the
/usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/ir file in my Lucid machine with one copied
over from a Karmic machine and the error message has gone away. I can
use both gb-en and ir layouts now! So the ir file in Lucid is
broken and probably any other layout that throws up the same message
too.

las, maybe try what I did with Sri Lanka layout and see what you get.
