[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1004314] [NEW] Firefox-globalmenu: Links that open in new windows don't get global menu

2012-05-25 Thread Dave Ahlswede
Public bug reported:

When browser.link.open_newwindow is net to 2 (Open in new windows
instead of new tabs), the globalmenu extension seems to miss it, and
that window only gets a local menu. This is easily experienced by going
to, for example, phoronix.com and clicking one of the links in the right
sidebar.

This doesn't seem to apply to windows opened by control-clicking on
links, as they open properly.

** Affects: firefox (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1004120] Re: Writer crashing saving in docx format

2012-05-25 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Luis de Sousa, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.
However, your crash report is missing. Please follow these instructions to have
apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the
automatic retracer. One may execute at the Terminal:
sudo apt-get -y install libreoffice-dbg uno-libs3-dbg ure-dbg sudo service
apport start force_start=1

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

Now reproduce the crash, then open your file manager, navigate to your
/var/crash directory and open the crash report you wish to submit.
If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with
'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is
the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed
to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug
/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'. Please follow
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LibreOfficeBugWrangling when you file this crash report
so the necessary information is provided.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

off using the Software Centre as they will just think it's broken (and
to be honest it is because of this issue). It needs to be enabled by
default, or should give a prompt to enable it if they want to install

a lot clearer than just an error.

The Canonical partners repository should be enabled by default as it
looks really terrible when you go to the Software Centre, see a huge
banner for something like Ultima, click it and get a No such package
message. For anyone that doesn't know better, this would just put them
off using the Software Centre as they will just think it's broken (and
to be honest it is because of this issue). It needs to be enabled by
default, or should give a prompt to enable it if they want to install
it. A simple message box explaining it with an enable button would be
a lot clearer than just an error.

When you go back to the main home screen by clicking All Software

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1003998] Re: Terminal window stays in foreground even if deactivated

2012-05-25 Thread Dennis Bernardy
** Package changed: gnome-terminal (Ubuntu) = ubuntu-meta (Ubuntu)

--
You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop

Title:
Terminal window stays in foreground even if deactivated

Status in “ubuntu-meta” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, release 12.04
  gnome-terminal version 3.4.1.1-0ubuntu1

  1) I expect the application menu to be in front of the terminal window, if
they collide in space.
  2) I expect the terminal window to move back behind other windows if these
get activated.
  3) If the terminal window is visible in the front after an action like in (2)
(well, it should not be, but if!) I expect it to further react on mouse actions

What happens instead (yes, it's reproduceable)

  1) the menu is hidden behind the window of the terminal application. As a
ugly workaround I can resize the window to keep enough free space between menu
bar and terminal window to show the menu nevertheless - but that's definitively
no solution.
  2) The terminal window stays in front, but is not active to any interaction
any more. It can be reactivated by clicking in the dock (as a workaround).
Minimizing a terminal window using the minimize-button in the windows title bar
works as expected.
  3) mouse actions are sent and handled by the next application that is on the
desktop. Thus mouse interaction works correct as if the terminal window has
been minimized as expected.

I assume that it's one bug alltogether:
  * Using the on-top-menu of the terminal application, which is not part of the
window in 12.04 any more deactivates the terminal window technically. The
deactivated window seems to stay on top accidently.
  * therefore the menu as well as the other application are drawn behind the
window, but that's again because of the first issue.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 920152] Re: Country menu can't be closed with the keyboard

2012-05-25 Thread Robert Roth
I have tried reproducing on Precise with software-center 5.2.2, and
enter selected the highlighted country, esc reverted to the last
selection, and both of them have closed the country menu. Could you
please check if you still have this issue, and if not, let's set this to
fix released and open a distro task (if required) for Oneiric to have
this SRU'd.

  2. In the screen for a purchasable item, click Buy
  3. Sign in if necessary.
  4. Choose Credit or debit card.
  5. Tab to the Country field.
  6. Press Space or Enter to open the menu.
  7. Type a letter or two to select a country.
  8. Try to exit the menu using the keyboard.

What happens: You're stuck. Enter, Esc, and Space all do nothing.

  What should happen:
  * Enter should select the highlighted item.
  * Esc should close the menu and revert to its previous selection.

Previously, step 7 didn't work, and that was a WebKit bug because it
happened in Midori as well (bug 638037). But this bug seems to be USC-
specific: Enter and Esc work fine in Midori with the country menu on
  http://www.cs.tut.fi/~jkorpela/forms/countries.html#probl.

2012-05-25 Thread Micah Gersten
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 711322]

2012-05-25 Thread dvo
(In reply to matthieuc from comment #0)
To me this is a feature and not a bug, because (at least in my view) different
address books are independent of each other, thus it is not possible to
cross-link between them.
So the effect that the cards are copied to the other address book when dragging
them there appears the only sensible thing to do.

2012-05-25 Thread Maarten Bezemer
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to
look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many
changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem
may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a lot if
you could test it on a currently supported Ubuntu version. When you test
it and it is still an issue, kindly upload the updated logs by running
apport-collect 391849 and any other logs that are relevant for this
particular issue.

Title:
Jaunty - get no dhcp lease, till i call dhclient manually

Status in “network-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: dhcp

  Hello,

Jaunty(64bit) fails to get an IP-Address from DHCP (dhcp client
v3.1.1) at boot by the router of the cable network. The company
(cablecom, Mr. Cekic) says, it's not a modem or network problem. The
Cable Device is Cisco/Scientific Atlanta EPC2203. Windows XP works as
  my cable-phone does.

The case is similar to other reports. Forcing dhcp3-client to send on
eth0 the eth0 mac doesnt change the problem. Similar but not identical
  to #354471.

The only solution I found is keep calling /sbin/dhclient EVERY
15minutes (lease time is about 30min).

  Some Details:

+ifconfig eth0 right after boot: (not working)
  eth0 Link encap:Ethernet Hardware Adresse 00:30:1..f
inet Adresse:192.168.0.93 Bcast:192.168.0.255 Maske:255.255.255.0
inet6-Adresse: fe80..

+after calling dhclient manually (and repeating to do so every 900 seconds)
  eth0 Link encap:Ethernet Hardware Adresse 00:30:1...f
inet Adresse:84.7.41 Bcast:255.255.255.255 Maske:255.255.248.0

flashes several times (half a dozen or so), then stays on for its
  normal duration.

I have made no changes to the connection (as this breaks the
Disconnect radio button, another bug report to follow); so, everything
is at default. Plug the card into a USB slot, let nm auto create the
connection, left-click on nm-applet, click the Auto Mobile Broadband
(CDMA) connection radio button, and allow it to connect; then, watch
the notify-osd bubble as it flashes several times prior to settling
down and displaying normally for the duration of its screen time.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 958424] Re: [regression] Can't change refresh rate in Displays

2012-05-25 Thread Michał Ciach
I've got this problem too, but in my case, I've got an LCD in which
refresh rate should be set at 60hz. However, the OS reverts it to 75Hz
at every reboot. I think it can be harmful for my LCD due to overheat
and overload. I'd found out that in Xubuntu 12.04 the problem doesn't
exist, so I installed it yesterday at this is true. Xubuntu works like a
charm. But I like Ubuntu more, so I'm hoping someone knows how to fix
it.

Natty: java menus have a mouse offset after de-maximizing in Unity

Status in Unity:
  Fix Released
Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
I hope this is not a duplicate, but I didn't find anything useful
neither in LP nor via Google.

If you start a Java program through the launcher which is not
maximized after starting or if you have the window maximized and then
de-maximize it by clicking on the de-maximize button, the menus are
off-by-one. This means as soon as you opened a menu by clicking on it
or opening it with Alt+mnemonic the menus and menu entries respond
like if the mouse is one menu entry beneath of what the mouse is
  really pointing at.

As soon as you drag the window by grabbing the titlebar or pressing
Alt and dragging with the left mouse button, the menus are fixed. The
window doesn't even have to actually move, you just have to initiate
the dragging by pressing Alt and clicking with the left mouse button
or by single-clicking on the titlebar.

I suppose this is caused by the titlebar being removed in maximized
state under Unity and restored when de-maximizing. During the de-
maximizing i guess there is some resizing or moving event that is not
correctly delivered to Java apps and thus the calculation of the menus
and menu entries is not done correctly.

Interestingly this seems to only affect the menus and menu entries in
the menubar. Other buttons, drop-downs textareas and stuff is not
  affected. Using UBUNTU_MENUPROXY= or APPMENU_DISPLAY_BOTH=1
doesn't have any effect on this behaviour.

USC relies on NM to be online, can't force online if not using NM

Status in “software-center” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Much like Firefox and Evolution, USC relies on knowing the system is
online via Network Manager. If NM is 'offline' (e.g. disconnected from
wired and not associated with any wifi access points) then USC will
not show reviews and will disable the Install button.

This is fine if you use Network Manager to get online. If you have to
use something else (for example to use pppoe) then you will not be
able to install apps in USC, or read reviews.

Other applications work around this by providing a 'Go online' option
somewhere in a menu. For example Firefox has the 'Work Offline' menu
item in the File menu which becomes ticked when network manger is
  offline.

Perhaps USC could implement a similar feature?

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 880834] Re: URLs in message body not opening in browser

2012-05-25 Thread Shimi Chen
Please try the following workaround:
Completely close Thunderbird.
Edit the user.js file in you Thunderbird profile folder(by default should be
located at ~/.thunderbird/xx.default), it probably does not exist so create
the file.
Insert the following lines:
user_pref(network.protocol-handler.app.http, /usr/bin/firefox);
user_pref(network.protocol-handler.app.https, /usr/bin/firefox);
user_pref(network.protocol-handler.app.ftp, /usr/bin/firefox);
Restart thunderbird and see if this is fixed.

When you remove a ppa from Lucid it won't go away from Software-Center
even after updating the apt cache.

  Steps to reproduce.
  1) Install a third party ppa.
  2) Update apt db.
  3) Start Software Center, ppa will be enabled.
  4) Remove third party ppa.
  5) Update Software Source.
  6) Start Software Center, ppa is still enabled.

The equivalent for adding a PPA is bug 782953.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 945533] Re: Promotional banner area has small graphical glitch

2012-05-25 Thread Michael Vogt
If that is the gradient issue, then its outside of the control of
software-center so this needs to be reassigned to the theme. Or am I
missing something here?

I'm not sure if this is directly the fault of the banner or if the

The software center Ain't really working at all...

Status in “software-center” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:

This does not really affect only myself, but also my little sisters computer.
You can't really browse software center, it's REALLY slow...

Also there is two banners at the top, it shows OpenShot and Braid
-- it did that on my sisters computer a few days ago too.

But, you can't click these banners; and I believe that the intention
is that you should be able to do so and get directed to some program
  descriptor thingie.

Also, I tried to search for OpenShot -- but the software center did
not respond to that command (it did not hung up).

I have not been able to install a single program with the software
center, so I've been forced to use the terminal; Which is not a too
big deal for me, but really, my sister is 11yrs and I can't really
expect that she will grok the terminal anytime soon (I've tried to
learn her git via the terminal once, which did not work out too well
as she did not want to type any commands herself. Luckily, there were
a few graphical frontends. I installed like five and told her to use
to one she likes the most).

I've bought a few games like braid, osmos and a few others, both to
myself and my sister -- and I hate that I have to go to her laptop and
install the stuff for her... You have major regressions going on with
Ubuntu! It used to be _easier_ than windows!

Also (in the past), the software center were the way I found out about
  useful software.

Title:
  Hide Banner

Status in “software-center” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
In Software-Center 5 which is shipped with Ubuntu oneiric ocelot a new
area is introduced, which is reserved for featured apps and other
  promotions.

There are four problems with this banner, which should be fixed.

  1) The first banner should be the Ubuntu Software-Center Banner.
  2) After seeing all features/promotions in a slide-show, there is probably no
use, in seeing these again and again. So it would be useful to mark all slided
banners in the list as slided and slide to the beginning, when the next one is
a marked one. (In this case the Ubuntu Software-Center Banner is shown, cause
it's the first one. You're also able to slide through the banners manually, so
the information this area provides is not lost)
  3) On little screens the banner takes quite a lot space. Instead of the big
banner it should be possible to choose between three types/options:
  * Big banner
  * Notification area which informs that there are new features/promotions
available. A Button enables the big banner for this session only.
  * Hide banner
  4) It should be possible to select types of features/promotions in which you
are interested seeing. (office, game, commercial, ...)

Maybe it's easier to implement the banner as list like the What's
new-List or Top rated-List. It would not take that much space, it
does not slide all the time and if you want to see more, there is
always the See more-Button, though the selective-
  features/promotions isn't available yet.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 899245] Re: Debugging exhibits is painful because of caching

2012-05-25 Thread Michael Vogt
Meh, LP ate my comment. So again:
I reassigned this for now to the server, we can add code to the client to call
webkit_web_view_reload_bypass_cache()
when a debug env is set, but I am not sure if the reverse proxy setup we have
will honor this or not. This sounds like
a server side issue to me, but I'm happy to fix in the above way if that is
honored by the caches.

Apparently, the banner HTML and images at
  https://myapps.developer.ubuntu.com/exhibits/ are cached for five
minutes. This makes testing any fixes very annoying.

It would be nice to have a no-cache flag or environment variable,
where USC would append ?nocache or similar to the URL of every
  resource it requests.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 997612] Re: Software Center contains no paid apps

2012-05-25 Thread Michael Vogt
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 982567 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/982567

I'm pretty sure this is a duplicate of bug #982567 where the proxy
handling does not work as expected. It should be fixed in 5.2.2 that is
currently in precise-proposed.

** This bug has been marked a duplicate of bug 982567
Software Center does not use proxy setting correctly, so reviews don't load
after update to 5.2

Software Center contains no paid apps

Status in “software-center” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
The software-center ist not showing any paid apps. The banner works. For
example, lords of ultima shows up in the banner, however if I click on it, I
get the messaage (german):
  Nicht gefunden
Es gibt kein Software-Paket mit dem Namen »lordofultima« in Ihren
derzeitigen Software-Quellen.

I tried to delete my ~/.cache/software-center and /~.config/software-
  center directories. But nothing changed.

If i use the terminal to start the software-center as root-user, the
paid apps are shown (sudo software-center).

titles not officially maintained by Ubuntu.

The ad still shows Trauma in it's rotation and allows you to click
on it through to it's summary page and allows you to purchase.

When you go back to the main home screen by clicking All Software
from the Trauma summary page, the non canonical software is still
hidden. This differs to how it would work if you were to search for
Braid while showing only canonical software. The search suggests it
shows you the 1 non-canonical maintained software that matches the
search. Advancing to Braid's summary page from here, and then clicking
All Software now shows all software, not just that from Canonical.

Thanks, there are more issues here, the banner is white on the right

Is there anything special about the system? Like using different

Title:
Accounts Manager doesn't open, sometimes means empathy can't sign in.

Status in “empathy” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
The Empathy Accounts manager doesn't open for managing accounts.

Often after the first time empathy is closed and reopened empathy
doesn't sign in and presents an error message saying:

  Error contacting the Account Manager
There was an error while trying to connect to the Telepathy Account Manager.
The error was:

Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote
application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy
blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network
  connection was broken.

Also strange behaviour occurs when attempting to open chat windows,
sometimes slow, sometimes they won't open at all, these bugs seem
related as they started occurring at the same time, however I will
  submit a separate report.

  Steps to reproduce:

  1) Log in
  2) Open Empathy
  3) Try to access Edit Accounts or press F4
  4) Nothing happens

Further steps for second open problem:

  5) Quit empathy Chat Quit or press Q
  6) Open empathy again
  7) Observe aforementioned error message.

Alternatively, running empathy-accounts from the terminal has the same
problem, the command hangs, no output to the terminal, and after a while exits.

Hey Bjørn, I removed you from the assignee for now. But you are free to
reassign it to yourself if you intend to work on this issue :)

It looks like there are some more inconsistencies for the accelerators
with the spec, this should be addressed for 12.10 but it looks rather
straightforward.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 1001868] Re: Selecting property file or folder freezing it

2012-05-25 Thread gabbo
Update: Just want to update maybe someone could help me. I have used the
procedure (still trying) but the file that I get (gdb-nautilus.txt) doesn't
report anything about the error showing up. However I attach one of file I got
even the image of error (http://img607.imageshack.us/img607/7262/schems.png)
that shows up. Maybe nautilus is not the program that throws the error I
don'know.
About this problem I can say that happens when I try to look at properties of a
file or directory. After the error shows up if I want, using right mouse click,
to see the properties I got the window frezzed for about 5 minutes, then it
gets back alright as nothing happened.

[Desktop-packages] [Bug 984785] Re: .goutputstream files polluting $HOME

2012-05-25 Thread malbo
I have the same issue with Ubuntu 12.04.
I made Comparison between Ubuntu 11.10 and Ubuntu 12.04 against Shut down.
Both install (11.10 and 12.04) are in the same PC and both use Lightdm.

1) with Ubuntu 11.10 :

- PC restart : Shut down Restart
- At login screen, I press Ctrl+Alt+F1 and check .Xauthority file :
ls -l .Xauthority
-rw--- 1 malbo malbo 0 2012-05-25 11:39 .Xauthority

- I press Ctrl + Alt + F7 to return to login screen and log in. Since my
graphic session, I check .Xauthority :
ls -l .Xauthority
-rw--- 1 malbo malbo 67 2012-05-25 11:41 .Xauthority

2) with Ubuntu 12.04

- PC restart : Shut down Restart
- At login screen, I press Ctrl+Alt+F1 and check .Xauthority file :
ls -l .Xauthority
-rw--- 1 malbo malbo 51 mai 25 11:57 .Xauthority

- I press Ctrl + Alt + F7 to return to login screen and log in. Since my
graphic session, I check .Xauthority :
ls -l .Xauthority
-rw--- 1 malbo malbo 51 mai 25 12:00 .Xauthority

My Comment :
Ubuntu 11.10 works good with Shut down : .Xauthority file is 0 bytes just
before the opening session (it goes to 67 bytes after the login).
Ubuntu 12.04 is wrong with Shut down : .Xauthority file is not zero byte just
before the login (it is 51 bytes and I checked
it is in the state of the opening of the previous session)
I think this anomaly is related to the creation of .goutputstream files
