[Desktop-packages] [Bug 989610] Re: Ubuntu 12.04 fails to install broadcom STA drivers
Hi kiaikim, path/hybrid-portsrc.tar just means the path to wherever you've saved hybrid-portsrc.tar. A common place you might have saved it from Firefox would be your ~/Downloads directory. So in that case it would be `tar -xvf ~/Downloads/hybrid-portsrc_x86_32-v5_100_82_112.tar.gz`. Hope that helps. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to jockey in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/989610 Title: Ubuntu 12.04 fails to install broadcom STA drivers Status in “jockey” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Jockey fails to properly install broadcom STA wireless drivers. Same issue here with Firefox 13. Dragdrop of bookmarks just stops working from time to time. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1024663] [NEW] Custom regional formats
Public bug reported: Regional formats should be customizable. Currently the user is capable of selecting a locale, and that locale will determine how dates are displayed, the first day of the week, etc. However, it is not possible to override any of these choices -- it's a 'take it or leave it' decision. There are several problems with that: 1. If the system language is English, and I set the RF to Hungarian, the names of months, days will be Hungarian, while the rest of the interface remains English, which is confusing. 2. RF settings apply to the command line too; once again, introducing a different date format, names of days and months, which may cause scripts to stop working. That may be a problem for developers (or for users who download scripts from a developer's page, which, with smartphones, Calibre, etc., is not so uncommon as someone might think). The settings for the GUI and the command line should be distinct. 3. Very often one would like to change just one setting (A4 paper size for printing, Monday as the first day of the week, etc.), which is currently not possible. I understand there was a similar bug, number 40669. However, the fix only added the Regional Formats tab, and ignored part of the problem of the reporter: it's impossible to configure a system that uses English GUI strings and the rest in native format. This functionality has been available in Windows and KDE forever. Ubuntu has parted ways with Gnome with regard to the DE, and it would be very welcome if we could also say goodbye to the Gnome mindset and actually give some power to the user. After all, even smartphones, which are definitely consumer devices, allow this type of customization. Yes I am getting similar behaviour. It only started yesterday. I will suddenly get the same message as above after I have been logged into my PC for about 20mins or so. It just comes out of nowhere. Ie, if I connect to a mt-daapd server running lucid with rhythmbox on precise, I can play individual files fine. I have selected to have songs play in random order, and rhythmbox will continue to the next song fine. When it does stop, I can click to fast forward to another song and it works ok. This does not seem to happen with local files (I played them for hours with no interruption), only daap served files. I have tried to correlate this with a problem with networking in precise, but do not see any messages problems in /var/log/syslog that would indicate a problem. Rhythmbox can play a mixture of ogg and mp3 files fine (ie, it is not a codecs issue). There is nothing in .xsession-errors when this occurs. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 984785] Re: .goutputstream files polluting $HOME
Yes sam_ you have right. I just replaced a large file 1.8GB . To see .goutputstream file unhide with Ctrl+H . It stands there. It has the same size as the original file and its size ADDED to the total. I replaced a movie file on Usb stick . Now the used space on usb-stick is 3.6GB's and both files , Original movie file and .goutputsteam file can be produced by movie player. Affter a while (almost 2 minutes) .goutputstream file disappears and total used size returns to 1.8GB. All this time usb-stick seems busy (light flashing) even if the replace progress finished. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1024742] [NEW] Mouse sensitivity is actually acceleration threshold. No way to change sensitivity.
Public bug reported: In the mouse settings there are two sliders: acceleration and sensitivity. Acceleration works (roughly) as expected, although it is kind of too binary (either you're going at a slow speed or a high speed; nothing in-between). However the sensitivity at first seems to do absolutely nothing (if you have no acceleration at least). After playing around with it, and reading some forums I found that the sensitivity is actually mislabelled, and it is really the acceleration threshold! There is also no actual sensitivity setting. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 1024745] [NEW] creating selection area in gimp causes logout from ubuntu
Public bug reported: This is weird. I'm using 12.04 on an emachines e443 64 bit computer. When I open a photo in Gimp 2.6.12 and I click to draw a rectangular selection area it instantly shows a black screen with some logging out text. Immediately afterwards my password screen for logging in on the computer appears. There is no error message, just an instant and direct logout. In the name of science I repeated the situation, and was able to read something about Start ClamAV in the black screen. It goes so fast I can't read all of it. Since I also have a windows partition I know the computer isn't doing a complete restart or I would have the option of selecting either OS. Any thoughts? My processor is: AMD C-Series dual-core processor C-50 (1.0 GHz, 1 MB L2 cache, DDR3 1066 MHz, 9 W) My graphics card is: AMD Radeon™ HD 6250 Graphics with 256 MB of dedicated system memory, supporting Unified Video Decoder 3 (UVD3), OpenCL® 1.1, OpenGL® 3.1, OpenEXR High Dynamic-Range (HDR) technology, Shader Model 5.0, Microsoft® DirectX® 11 When I was trying to make the computer a bit less sluggish in Windows, before installing Ubuntu, I threw 8GB of RAM on it, so I know this isn't a lack of memory issue. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 958424] Re: [regression] Can't change refresh rate in Displays
I have a flat screen LCD monitor and the refresh rate is set out of range. I have no idea what 12.04 thinks it's dealing with. Occasionally I get a visible screen for a second or so which after many such second-long flashes lets me change to resolution to 1024x768 which, though not nice (native 1280x1028) is readable and thence to 1280x960. I have just upgraded from 10.04 and found I can no longer set the refresh rate manually. Why is it that upgrading so often leads to loss of functionality? Installing Mate restores all the functionality of 10.04 (including the world daylight indicator) and as a bonus removes Unity. So I can now run my monitor at nice resolution and refresh rate. Now all I have to do is find a way to keep the settings as default so I can actually see the screen when I log in. Set as default doesn't seem to work :-( Time to look into xrandr I suppose. If the problem is known as an upstream bug and it makes 12.04 almost unusable without Mate shouldn't it be fixed? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/958424 Title: [regression] Can't change refresh rate in Displays Status in GNOME Control Center: New Status in “gnome-control-center” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Status in Baltix GNU/Linux: New Bug description: First thing I noticed when booting Precise was the screen flickering. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 958424] Re: [regression] Can't change refresh rate in Displays
Steve, I originally opened this bug, and then realized my main problem was failure to properly detect my monitor: bug 958439. You may want to look in that direction. Monitors *should* be communicating their capabilities to the computer, and at that point it should be easy for the OS to determine an ideal refresh rate for any resolution. So you really shouldn't need to be able to manually specify a refresh rate. And I can see, given that it should be completely unnecessary, people wanting to remove the capability to make the interface slightly less complicated. But Daniel pointed out in comment #9 that there are reasons to have it. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 971880] Re: go on line to edit your personal information
After further investigation, I discovered a work-around. The problem appears to be the result of an upgrade from a time where gnome-online-accounts was used in ubuntu. My google account was added there, and the ghosts of that addition seem to have echoed into 12.04 -- where that package is no longer included by default, it seems. My workaround: Install gnome-contacts: sudo apt-get install gnome-contacts Open gnome contacts: gnome-contacts In the GUI that opens, select Accounts button, then delete the account from the resulting menu. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 984785] Re: .goutputstream files polluting $HOME
Jimmy yes , i just reproduced Sam's consider about this. Maybe developers understand something from this , i don't know. The truth is that when i searched my home for this specific file i didn't see it. The file was cleaned up and i counted that an empty file (the same) will be created in my home folder . I marked up the numbers but i didn't see it. Other .goutputsteam files are there as well. Of course i don't know how they created . For now i use a workaround like $rm .goutputstream-* in a script added to my startup applications. I will continue to follow this bug , just from curiosity on how these files created.
