[Desktop-packages] [Bug 924178] [NEW] e-mail content corruption in Evolution
Public bug reported: Now for the second time since I upgraded to Precise, I experienced e-mail corruption in Evolution. In the list view, subject, sender and so on are correct, but when I open the e-mail, its content is truncated and also shows parts of the message that are normally not printed, like HTML code and message boundaries. When I open the e-mails source, I can see that also the headers are broken. I attached a screenshot of one message’s source, which is heavily corrupted. When I open the e-mail on my provider’s webmail interface, it is complete there. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 880921] Re: Menubar appears in first gnome-terminal even though it's turned off according to default profile and gnome-terminal internal state
Same here, using notion (another alternative window manager). If i uncheck Show menubar by default in new terminals, new terminals indeed start with the menubar hidden, but after maybe half a second the menu bar will be added. Show Menubar is unticked in both the right-click menu and the view menu. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-terminal in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/880921 Title: Menubar appears in first gnome-terminal even though it's turned off according to default profile and gnome-terminal internal state Status in “gnome-terminal” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Hi. The first instance of gnome-terminal in oneiric always starts with a menu bar, even though Show menubar by default in new terminals is unchecked in my default profile. In the initial menubar, View-Show Menubar is unchecked even though the menubar is shown. Toggling this causes the menubar to remain, but causes a check to appear against View-Show Menubar. Toggling again causes the menubar to disappear. Any gnome-terminal windows created after that appear without the menubar. I checked a bunch of menubar-related bugs, namely a href=https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-terminal/+bug/728040;#728040/a, a href=https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-terminal/+bug/868152;#868152/a, a href=https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/indicator-appmenu/+bug/663030;#663030/a, and a href=https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/666926;#666926/a, They may be related, but none of them seem to describe this initial conflict between the appearance of the menubar and the inactive menubar state as represented by the configuration UI. lap% lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu 11.10 Release: 11.10 lap% apt-cache policy gnome-terminal gnome-terminal: Installed: 3.0.1-0ubuntu3 Candidate: 3.0.1-0ubuntu3 Version table: *** 3.0.1-0ubuntu3 0 500 http://mirrors.rit.edu/ubuntu/ oneiric/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status lap% To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-terminal/+bug/880921/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Public bug reported: Reading a whole list of related problems that exist for more 6 ! years. And still no solution, hey guys what is wrong here? I do expect a reminders to pop-up in the moment set by the preferences AND STAY THERE until the event is either passed or when I select to stop reminding me. I find that dragging Folders into the left pane never creates a bookmark. Previously, I think I could drag folders 'in between' other folders in the left pane, seeing a black line indicating where the new bookmark would be placed. Now it's impossible to find a drag/drop target which creates a bookmark from a stock Oneiric until first running the keyboard shortcut CTRL+D to add an item. Once an item exists, a Bookmarks section appears in the Nautilus left pane, and then I can drag subsequent bookmarks under this heading. For Bookmarks to be a usable feature, there should be some kind of GUI-based technique to create them. Currently it requires deep understanding of Nautilus keyboard shortcuts to begin with. ** Changed in: unity-2d Importance: Undecided = High -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/742544 Title: Launcher is shown on the wrong screen in some multi-monitor setups Status in Ayatana Design: Invalid Status in Unity: In Progress Status in Unity 2D: New Status in “gnome-control-center” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu: In Progress Bug description: WORKAROUND FOR 11.10: None available. But an early fix is available for 11.10 in ppa:vanvugt/unity, https://launchpad.net/~vanvugt/+archive/unity WORKAROUND FOR 11.04: There are two ways to configure the primary monitor in Ubuntu 11.04... Permanent workaround (requires logging back in again): Edit ~/.config/monitors.xml, find the monitor you want the launcher to display on and change: primaryno/primary to: primaryyes/primary Now log out and log in again. Temporary workaround (no logout required): Open a Terminal window and... 1. Run xrandr to find the NAME of the output you would like to make primary. 2. Run: xrandr --output NAME --primary nohup unity --replace ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION: Binary package hint: unity In my particular configuration I have an external monitor hooked up to my laptop on the left of the laptop display. The unity bar is ending up on the laptop display though making it in the middle of the two monitors. This makes it quite difficult to activate the bar with a full screen application open on the laptop (hitting the upper left pixel of that monitor without going over). I think it would make more sense to make it configurable which monitor the bar ends up on, or at least look at the orientation of the monitors when determining where to put the bar. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 792947] Re: The application cannot be started. A general error occurred while accessing your central configuration.
whitis, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is missing. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. Assuming your using Openjdk, may execute at the Terminal: sudo apt-get -y install openjdk-6-dbg libreoffice-dbg uno-libs3-dbg ure-dbg sudo service apport start force_start=1 If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. Now open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the crash report you wish to submit. If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with 'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'. Please post to this bug either: + the crash report bug hyperlink, + or comment here that no crash report was generated and mark the Status back to Confirmed. Especially from removable media (USB-Sticks, SD-Cards...) I want to right-click the places bar to select Properties, in order to learn about the remaining disk space on the drive, which is very useful when drag-dropping files and folders into a drive listed in the places side bar. Of course, I don't want to navigate away from my current folder (because I might have files selected, or the view scrolled down by a specific amount...), neither would I want to open a new window (from the side-bar list's drive's context menu), then right-click into this new window again and select 'Properties' from there... For me, this is mostly about disk-space, but I'm sure there is a lot more cases when people would need a not-so-crippled context menu in the places list. Yesterday Firefox continued to crash after applying the pre-purposed pathes released and applied on 01-30-12. I decided to add the packages provided above, it was an attempt to resolve the firefox bug I reported a few weeks ago. At this time firefox is no longer crashing every minute, However, the control center crashes. Firefox has been up for over 2 hours at this time. It is like deja vue, apply a large set of patches, submit a bugreport about firefox crashing every minute, firefox is online for days until another set of new patches are applied and repeat firefox is crashing every minute. The only difference this time is the two packages I added after applying the 01-30-12 patches. This is the first time I've been able to use firefox in 2 weeks. Hopefully this will provide some insite for both bugs. lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu 11.10 Release: 11.10 uname -a Linux ubuntuTV 3.0.0-16-server #27-Ubuntu SMP Tue Jan 24 19:32:56 UTC 2012 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux ProblemType: Crash DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.10 Package: gnome-control-center 1:3.2.2-0ubuntu1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.0.0-16.27-server 3.0.17 Uname: Linux 3.0.0-16-server x86_64 ApportVersion: 1.23-0ubuntu4 Architecture: amd64 Date: Tue Jan 31 03:46:22 2012 ExecutablePath: /usr/bin/gnome-control-center InstallationMedia: Ubuntu-Server 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot - Release amd64 (20111011) ProcCmdline: gnome-control-center background ProcEnviron: LANGUAGE=en PATH=(custom, no user) LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash SegvAnalysis: Segfault happened at: 0x7f0cc47ab040:mov(%rax),%rdi PC (0x7f0cc47ab040) ok source (%rax) (0x00ff) not located in a known VMA region (needed readable region)! destination %rdi ok SegvReason: reading NULL VMA Signal: 11 SourcePackage: gnome-control-center StacktraceTop:

The panel encountered a problem while loading WnckletFactory::ShowDesktopApplet. Do you want to delete the applet from your configuration? I've attached a screenshot, showing the desktop with these message boxes, as well as the mostly unpopulated bottom panel. This bug looks like bug 716714; perhaps this is a duplicate of that bug. I wasn't sure, so I decided to report it separately. There are a number of other bugs involving the failure of panel applets to load (a couple recent examples are bug 715706 and bug 727660), but as far as I can tell only bug 716714 involves the failure of these specific three panel applets to load. Two possibly notable differences between bug 716714 and this one are that (1) bug 716714 took place with the live CD, and this is with an installed system, and (2) the reporter of bug 716714 can reproduce the bug, but it's not always those specific panels that are unable to load (he indicates that in a previous run, it was the Notification Area that failed to load). I have not yet attempted to reproduce this. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 916274] Re: Firefox is reported to be running after I close it out.
I should add to my post #5 that when I originally posted this problem as a bug, there were no spinner progress indicators that appeared at anytime during the sequence of actions that I had executed. Also, I had a thought at that time that maybe the problem was related to Firefox needing time to unwind, so I did attempt, on at least 2 occasions, a sequence of steps w/ long delays between steps, but still got the same messages. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to firefox in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/916274 Title: Firefox is reported to be running after I close it out. This happen ~20% of the time. 2) I close Firefox, and the icon in the bottom tray disappears, but if I click on the Firefox icon at the top to restart Firefox, a message appears Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system. Re: [Desktop-packages] [Bug 921315] Re: lightdm greeter provides no access to pam accounts
We're case 2. Listing all the users is impossible anyhow. Where would you get the list? But we're OK I believe with listing those who have logged in before on the particular machine. That's not essential however. Right now the other selector is totally missing. It should be impossible for that to happen no matter what is in the accounts manager. Thomas On Jan 30, 2012 11:05 PM, Robert Ancell robert.anc...@canonical.com wrote: Hi Thomas, Could you clarify the use case you are talking about? The cases we have designed for are: 1. Home users, who have a fixed number of users that are displayed in the greeter 2. Network logins where the user list cannot be easily displayed (it is too long or unable to be downloaded) 3. Home/Network logins where security is an issue (they don't want any users being displayed). Are you expecting case 2 except users that are currently logged in are shown? Or case 2 where the last n users are remembered and shown (as a shortcut to avoid typing common usernames). I'll open a design task against this so this new case is handled if appropriate. ** Also affects: ayatana-design Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Goobuntu Team, which is subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/921315 Title: lightdm greeter provides no access to pam accounts Status in Ayatana Design: New Status in “lightdm” package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: In our configuration, nearly all users are granted access to the system via pam. The User Accounts dialog in Settings shows only a single user which was created at install time...and I'm not sure where from, because we preseed d-i passwd/make-user boolean false to try and inhibit the initial user account. We control access with pam_krb5 in common-auth, and pam_access in common-account, and we want all users passed by that method to be able to log in (and pam_access is using netgroups to decide which users should be permitted). So, in this world, I have one account known to the Accounts Manager, and it's the only one which lightdm will let me use: I get no other user dialog of any kind. This is a serious bug. We have the standard unity-greeter.conf and access.conf in /etc/lightdm (though the latter is supposedly unused). This is being handled differently upstream, so I'll close this bug as Invalid (as per the upstream response). ** Changed in: evolution (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to evolution in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/712582 Title: Default email account is not honored when composing a new message Status in The Evolution Mail Calendaring Tool: Invalid Status in “evolution” package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: Binary package hint: evolution I have the following setup: - account1 (the only one I get email from, as others forward here) - account2 (the one marked as default, only configured to send email) Because of that I'm always reading email from account1. If I'm reading stuff from the On this computer account, then evolution uses the correct (default) account when composing a new email. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 892022] Re: Errors in german spell-checker
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 559894 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/559894 I share the reportes opinion, that it doesn't necessarily seem to be a duplicate of of bug #559894. @Michael: Can you check using a textfile with some german text and the commands as described in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/empathy/+bug/559894/comments/24 that you problem is _not_ related to the locale de vs. de-DE. If you are able to reproduce your problem with enchant itself, it would probably help if you open a separate bug in the enchant Issue tracker for your issue and link to there. Thanks Grüße! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to empathy in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/892022 Title: Errors in german spell-checker Status in “empathy” package in Ubuntu: Invalid Bug description: Spell checking works (unlike #559894), but makes some mistakes. They seem to relate mostly to the letter ‘ß’, possibly introduced wrongly while trying to adapt to the spelling reform a few years back. In particular, the following words are underlined: == Maß Spaß heißt Kloß Fuß They are all quite correct. I’m sure there are dozens more. It is not a problem with ‘ß’ in general, as ‘weiß’ is correctly identified as spelled correctly. Sorry for the repetitiveness. [Desktop-packages] [Bug 924285] [NEW] Show position ... in Mouse settings modifies responsiveness to Control (Ctrl) based shortcuts
You have been subscribed to a public bug: When Show position of pointer when the Control key is pressed option in Mouse and Touchpad settings is ticked, the ability of keyboard shortcuts is affected, so that in order to trigger the shortcut action, one needs to press the bound key twice. Example: When tilda is configured to toggle its visibility to Controlspace, and the option above is set in the same time, you have to press Controlspace+space to get tilda visible/hidden. This bug may trick users to believe the shortcut is not working. This seems to affect most of Control-related shortcuts.
