I too have had number of issues with builds in the 6.x realm. However, I've found 6.2.2 to be extremely stable (on my linux server) and responsive in the SB UI. http://www.slimdevices.com/downloads/SlimServer_v6.2.2/ I think the key is not to be on the bleeding edge of the releases (unless thats your thing... not that there is anything wrong with it =). 6.2.2 is feature complete to 6.2 and contains two point releases worth of bug fixes. Never used MusicMagic so I can't comment there. ss. -- street_samurai street_samurai's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=199 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=25915 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Thought I'd throw in my $0.02. I absolutely love my Tannoy Reveal Actives. I have a $15k Linn system that is my pride and joy... but I'm constantly shocked at what I can hear on the Tannoy's that I can't on the Linn system. The Tannoy's are studio speakers so they are designed to be neutral in sound. Personally, I like this more "true" sound but some may find it a bit harsh (especially when compared to a softer sound like the Linn's). Tannoy's have been used in audio engineering studios for years so many of the CDs that you listen to may been mixed using these speakers... so in the ideal world, you are hearing the mix as close to what the engineer intended as possible. They're a bit pricey but well worth a listen. ss. -- street_samurai street_samurai's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=199 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=26226 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Re: Wireless bridge mode - does the router "see" the MAC behind it?
In my experience and with some research I don't believe your router will see the MAC address of the network device bridged through your SB3. I've used multiple routers with multiple different bridge wireless clients all with the same results. I have a Tivo bridged through my SB3 and the router only see's the MAC address of the SB3. The Tivo has a static IP and I have never had a connection problem to it. In addition, my server is connected to Netgear wireless client (bridge) and you only see the MAC address of the wireless client bridge and not the server. In this case, you may have problems with a router trying to provide a dhcp ip mapped to a specific MAC address when the device is behind the SB3 bridge. In small environments, there is no need to use dhcp unless you are moving devices between networks (i.e. laptop). -- joek joek's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3318 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=26183 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

How do people retrieve the URL's for archived NPR content? For instance, you can go to http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=5602441 for an old interview with Robin Williams. If you don't have the cookie set for an audio player, you can get the URL by clicking on "listen" and then capturing the link on the popup. However, once the cookie is set, a bunch of javascript will autoload your audio player and there is no way to capture the url. I'm looking for an easier way then deleting the cookie, which doesn't have a high WAF. -- geranimo1 geranimo1's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=6898 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=26256 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

I have a project that I have been cooking away at, that I intend to release when I am happy with it. It will query the DB (if you are using mysql / I have not tested it with the stock DB) and create a page in a PDF document with the cover art, a barcode of the album id, a barcode of the artist id, artist, title, and a track listing one page per album. It will also create an index of artists and albums at the end. It "works for me TM" but will honestly take some doing to get it setup, I don't have it cleanly polished and packaged. I have only tested it on Fedora core 4 Linux, but it should work on most Linux variants. Some porting would be required to make it work under cygwin/windows. Let me know if that's something you would be interested in trying and I will send you a copy to be a guinea pig. -Chris On 8/10/06, 95bcwh <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: All, Not sure if this has been asked before, I wonder if there's a way to get some kind of "reports" or catalogue out of slimserver software? You are right I forgot about that. So ok you could but you would also have to re-establish the net connection with the server. How long would this take? Probably not too long in most cases. But why go to this trouble? What is so important about disabling a rather weak RF signal. The radiation from just about everything else in the world is stronger. Your cell phone for instance when idle is probably stronger than wifi. Another question, will you be disabling the access point too when you disable the SB? Because even if it does not have active connections it still sends broadcasts. -- m1abrams m1abrams's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=850 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=26270 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

My laptop is configured to not spin down the HD and while I have several windows open (Outlook, IE, Excel, etc.), there aren't any other heavy duty applications actively running at the time. You are right that it's nothing to do with transcoding at this point since nothing is playing. As a side experiment, if I launch Slimserver on my PC, and click on "Browse Albums", it takes about 15 seconds for the library to appear. The second delay (from "play" to music actually starting) may be attributable to transcoding. Again, the issue is that the ON command is processed by the server. The SB needs to be in communication with the server so that the server can turn it on. If the wireless module is off, the command can't get to the server. This would require a substantial hardware redesign (the ability to power up in firmware) so it's not likely to happen with the SB3. No, that's a list of transcodings (and non-transcodings = direct transfers) to enable. When I just plugged in a cable, nothing happened, as you wrote. If it was connected to something powered I got that question, and could disable bridging - which was enabled before. When I earlier checked "Current Network Settings" it said "Bridge wireless to ethernet: Yes". Now it says no. It SHOULD not make a difference if nothing is connected to the port, but if it made no difference at all I believe that setting wouldn't be there. I bought it used, and since it doesn't work as well as my other SB3 I'm checking all settings. Both usually get between 65-80% signal strength, but this one can stutter an lose the connection. I will of course swap the two and see if the placing is the crucial thing, but first I wanted to sync the settings between the two. -- tommypeters tommypeters's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=6528 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=26183 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

If you ever enabled it in the past, as soon as you unplug the Ethernet cable, wireless bridging is disabled - there's nothing to bridge. So...the 770 is a web browser, email client, rss feed reader, vnc client, vnc server ssh client, ssh server, pdf reader, eBook reader, video player, audio player, voip phone, personal information manager, you can play chess, mahjong, even doom, it's got a bash shell, unix utilities, musical instrument tuner, it can connect with a bluetooth gps device and provide mapping utilities. It's also a slimserver remote ;) There's more: http://maemo.org/maemowiki/ApplicationCatalog2006 I'm not claiming that the 770 is the best device on the planet. It's got tons of flaws. I'm just saying that it fits the analogy of a swiss army knife to a T. It's not that you can't use the 770 as a PDA...it just doesn't do that particular function as well as a dedicated PDA (yet). I run a 1.6 GHz or so toshiba satellite laptop running linux. The screen is always closed. It's in my basement so noise is not an issue. I run an external 80GB drive in a maddog usb 2.0 case. The wireless networking card is always active as long as there's power unless you switch it to wired networking. The device never really goes off, it just goes into an idle state. It is not curious. The 770 is not a swiss army knife because it has been created for very constrained use cases - it's an Internet tablet. That is how it is designed, and that is what it is for. You should notice my mention of paradox; it is true that the 770 has a lot of extendability potential due to its platform, but that doesn't change the ethos udner which the product was designed. -- Smiley Dan Smiley Dan's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=5456 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=26233 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
