[slim] Artist search produces 'empty' playlist

2006-10-16 Thread luga00

After doing an artist search in 6.5 the artist that it finds is
displayed (as you'd expect). However, if one then cursors right to see
the all the tracks by that artist the list is 'empty'. However, I can
still play this empty playist and sure enough track advance (FF) goes
through each track that I would have expected to be in the playlist.
Does anyone know if a bug has been raised for this issue? I notice
there is a similar bug for LazySearch but I'm not using that plug-in.

[slim] Re: slimserver missing albums

2006-10-16 Thread slimpy

Please check if the missing albums are listed under Artists - Various
artists.
Some of the Air tracks seem to be part of compilation albums. This
could be another issue with compilations.
For the missing Depeche Mode albums things seem to be a bit more
complicated.
Do any of the songs on the missing albums have more than one artist in
the tags?
Do you use the ALBUMARTIST (TPE2 for mp3) or DISC/DISCC (TPOS for mp3,
part of a set) tags on any of the missing albums?
Turn off iTunes integration for testing so we can rule that out as a
possible source of error although it is probably not an iTunes issue
anyway.

[slim] Re: slimserver missing albums

2006-10-16 Thread cmaskelyne

After a rescan (unfortunately it is still going) it looks like it is
second guessing the tags incorrectly.

My directory structure is as follows:

H:\web\mp3's\depeche mode\personal jesus cd single\track 01

and so on

Where for some reason it is not picking up the tags it thinks the
artist is web and the cd is MP3's. The thing that puzzles me is that
Media player and iTunes are both tagged perfectly.

I am not sure which tag you are refering to but most of mine are tagged
Artist rather than Album artist in iTunes - not sure if that helps.

Would it help if converted the whole iTunes library to id tag 2.4?
which I think is the latest - or should I be picking an earlier one?

Thanks for the assistance so far.

I found that playlists scanned in the Playlists folder affected the
artist count and the display of artists.

If you have playlists, try removing moving them to another unscanned
folder, and try a full rescan.

When I did that, the Music Library behaved properly and displayed and
counted all the artists in the compilations whose names wrer properly
listed in the tags.

I have a similar thread running at present where some of the albums have
disapeared - I have found mine under Web / MP3's which is where the
tracks are stored:

h:\web\mp3's\depeche mode (etc)

I think that it is taking the first two directories and using these
rather than starting at the right point. I assume as a large number of
my tracks do appear that it is only doing this where the tag is no
good.

You probably have both ID3v1 and ID3v2 tags in your files and one set
has blank values in the artist and album frames.
Remove the old ID3v1 tags from the files with a program like The
Godfather or mp3Tag. There have been reports of tagging programs that
failed to show ID3v1 tags even if they were there. To make sure they
are removed properly open the file in a text editor and look for TAG at
the end of the file. If TAG is still there then the ID3v1 tag wasn't
removed properly.

Track count seems to be off to a smaller or greater degree depending on
the view you are currently in. I'm not sure this has anything to do
with your or other related problems. I don't have any problems with
missing or duplicate tracks but track, artist and album count seem to
be odd sometimes. I wouldn't rely on these figures to determine if your

[slim] Re: Transporter vs ??

2006-10-16 Thread cashman

Well, I actually own one of these and although it's a very new product
on the scene, I can tell you that it is very promising.

The UI needs LOTS of work, but it will operate over UPnP and access a
UPnP NAS directly (I have an Infrant ReadyNAS NV using same music
library for my SBs) and it will play FLAC, AAC, MP3 and a couple of
other formats.

I'm told this has been designed as an audiophile device (it runs a
Wolfson DAC) but I have not done any A/B comparos yet.

It is primarily for video and no, you cannot stream HD video at high
bit rates over 11g - it just doesn't work. Even ripped DVDs have
trouble over 11g. But with a wired Ethernet connection, HD video on a
HD panel is just stunning :)

And yes, it's very heavy!

[slim] Re: slimserver missing albums

2006-10-16 Thread Greg Erskine

I concur with Ramage, disabling playlists and doing a clear and rescan
is the only way I have found get things behaving. A rescan of new or
changed miscounts artists and albums by 1 or 2 but is OK with the
number of tracks. Having playlists active seems to add to the miscount
of artists (almost double) on one of the screens.

Also, when doing a clear and rescan I usually need to clear the IE
browser's cache because one of the recently added album art is not
correct.

As I don't use playlists and only have 250 albums, having to do an
occassional clear and rescan and clearing the cache is not a problem. I
am very happy with the operation of Slimserver 6.5.1 in my situation.

[slim] Performance server requirements

2006-10-16 Thread awy

I have SlimServer (6.5.0) running on my general home server. This is a
rather ancient box with a c.600MHz Pemtium II/III(?) CPU and a pair of
EIDE drives in a software mirror configuration. Nothing sparkling at
all but generally fine for most purposes. It runs Fedora Linux FC5 (up
to date).

I notice a couple of performance-related issues. If I use the
SlimServer web interface, from another client PC, to browse the music
archive, then I get interruptions in the playback. Would it be
possible, perhaps, to increase the buffering to (SoftSqueeze) players
to overcome this?

When monitoring the system performance with top(1), I often see
slimserver.pl using 15-25% of the CPU. I find it hard to correlate this
usage with what is going on at the time. What is it doing?

Does the server use multiple threads (other than the separate scanner
thread) or does it multiplex various activities (streaming audio,
serving web pages) within a single thread?

Re: [slim] Re: Web interface, Firefox, memory growth

2006-10-16 Thread Ben Sandee
Generally, I believe it has been found that it is Firefox that is causing the leaks. There is some anecdotal evidence that 6.5 has improved this by not using certain 'buggy' scripting techniques for refreshing on Firefox. You don't say what version you are running for any of the products involved (Firefox, SlimServer) so others may not have many more specific suggestions.
You might find that Firefox by itself doesn't cause the leak but one of your installed extensions does. Firefox cannot guard against a buggy extension.Ben

2006-10-16 Thread cmaskelyne

OK so - I have download MP3tag and found that huge volumes of the MP3's
do not appear tagged. So ran through iTunes auto update as all the
tracks appeared fine there. Went back into MP3tag still loads missing
but have tried winamp, musicmatch, iTunes and Media player and all of
these pick up all the tracks and the correct tags.

6.3.0 did not have the problem (although I cannot tell when this
problem did occur). Clear from other posts that this is causing several
people problems. I just want to see my music again.

To cut a long story short I will go back to 6.3.0 but can anyone tell
me where I can download this?

Many thanks for any assistance.

If you look in the Hardware / Third Pary forums you will see quite a few

thanks for the suggestions. I have now figured out how to apply replay
gain through command line.

I wasn't able to get your script to work though unfortunately.

another newbie question: do all of my flac files need to be labeled in
a unix friendly manner (i.e. - any and all gaps/punctuation replaced
with an underscore.)

i noticed that my metaflac command line for replay gain will only work
if my flac files are labeled in the previous manner.

also, the metaflac command line for replay gain applies album gain to
tracks but it doesn't seem to apply track gain. is that correct? and
will the applied replay gain be saved in the file? it seems as though
on a rescan of the music folders some of the replay gain settings get
blown out.

thanks again. I feel as though I'm making progress.

For one thing, every last one of them has a different username/password requirement and many of them have code to prevent your browser auto-saving that info, so I end up having to ask for a reminder email every time I go try to use the forum... and every one of them has a different place to do that. With all the stupid avatars and page formatting and the thread ends up taking three times as long to read, and I end up missing a lot of conversations that I would have otherwise read.
The reason that the email user didn't remember the bug number is because they were deleting the earlier mails. Changing your mind about the importance of a conversation is not something technology can readily solve, though the view this thread link to the forums in all the emails is a cool feature that can help :)

[slim] Playlists with SS and iTunes on different machines?

2006-10-16 Thread jest

I have my SlimServer running on a server that's in an inconvenient
location for physical access. My iTunes is running on a Mac that's in a
convenient location; the music folder itself is on an external drive
attached to the server that I access over NFS from the iTunes machine.

I'd like to be able to create and edit playlists on the iTunes machine
and have them available to my SlimServer (since it's such a pain
working on long playlists using the SS interface). However, it seems I
can't store my iTunes library file in a remote location so that it's
accessible to SS.

What's the best way to accomplish this? Automatically, that is--my wife
is the one who uses playlists, and she's not going to be up for anything
involving scp'ing files across NFS, etc.

This weekend, when I read that it no longer works, I started writing a

I should have this working shortly. When I finish it, I will load up

So, it goes like this:

Last night, I was listening to a mix of various tracks, playing across
two synchronized SoftSqueeze instances. Before I went to bed, I pressed
Stop via the web interface.

This morning I used AlienBBC to play Radio4 for a few minutes before
going to work. I do not really remember if there were any odd effects
at that time. Again, I pressed Stop via the web interface before
leaving.

This evening I started up Radio4 again. Before the radio stream starts
up I get several seconds of the last track which had been playing last
night. So far, so wierd.

But, over the past hour or so, every 10 to 15 minutes, I get anoter
burst of that track from last night, 1-5 s or so. What on earth is
going on?

Not sure exactly what you intend to do from your subject line, but it

attenuate signals that rise above a certain user-determined threshold

The 'leak' is progressive over a very long period and seems
significantly worse on Linux than on XP (although it may be that the XP

[slim] Re: Tons of Problems with 6.5

2006-10-16 Thread JPKaro

I've read many posts about problems with 6.5.x with interest, ever since
I upgraded and experienced many of them firsthand.

My major issue was that even after trying a couple of complete
uninstalls and 6.5.1 nightly build reinstallations, I still had
playback freeze frequently in the middle of a song, both on my
SqueezeBox and SoftSqueeze players. Only after unistalling and
reverting back to 6.3.1 did playback return to normal.

It appears to me that SD development follows feedback of the user
community closely, which is great. However, I consider myself as being
more of a final product consumer than a beta tester, and prefer
stable releases over cutting edge. For me it's mostly about listening
to music, rather than troubleshooting software. The 6.5 release was a
bit of a let-down in that regard.

As a newbie, and before embarking on another round of uninstalls,
upgrades, and testing, I'd love to know when SD plans to release a
final stable version of 6.5.1? Or should I just keep installing
nightly builds every week or so, until I hit a version that feels more
stable?

[slim] Digital output loses a channel ??

2006-10-16 Thread ncpl

Twice now, from a cold boot up of P.C. and SS and with SB3 coming out of
std by with a status of nothing playing, I play a track (any track) and
get only one channel. On the first occasion it was right channel; next
time it was left.

The only way to restore the missing channel was to unplug power and
reboot the SB3.

The SB3 directly feeds Meridian digital speakers which work with a full
digital signal to one speaker and then linked to the next. L or R
speaker designation determines which half of the signal to play. The
speakers don't indicate any signal locking issue and as it's happened
to both channels and is fixed by a SB3 reboot, I suspect the missing
channel is missing from the SB3 output.

Anyone shed any light on this ?

cheers

I've had similar problems with FF on XP, but never with Slimserver (I
rarely leave it open for long enough). I have however noticed that FF

You should have introduced yourself! I was there pretending to be an SD

That's a new one. It's very hard for me to imagine anything that could
go wrong in the Squeezebox which would cause one channel or the other
to go out like that. S/PDIF, particularly the way SB3 generates the
signal, is just not really subject to that kind of problem - you either
have the data or you dont, and there's nothing special that makes one
channel different from the other.

Some ideas which might shed some light on this:

- Try a different source component to verify that the problem isn't in
the speakers

- Try SB3 with a different receiver

- Next time it happens, instead of rebooting the SB3, try unplugging
and re-plugging the s/pdif cable.

- Try a different cable, or different type of cable (eg optical
instaead of coax).

- Next time it happens, try playing something at a different sample
rate (48KHz or 32KHz material) and see if it starts working again. This
causes the interface to have to re-sync.

- Try toggling the l/r setting on the Meridians

I am afraid I have just downloaded 6.3.1 to reinstall. Having checked
the tagging issue with Musicmatch, Winamp, Windows Media and iTunes
(where they all show tagged correctly) and 6.3.1 I drew the conclusion
that 6.5 has introduced a bug that was not there.

I tried today to download, remove (from Windows uninstall) and delete
the directory and pluggins and reinstall - and the problem remained. If
you haven't yet upgrade all I can say is do so with care.

I to would prefer the stable release rather than being a tester. Does
anyone know if 7 is any better?

[slim] Re: Digital output loses a channel ??

2006-10-16 Thread ncpl

Hi Sean,

Thanks for the quick response. I can comment on a couple of your
suggestions which may help narrow it down:-

- Try a different source component to verify that the problem isn't in
the speakers I can switch between sources and all other sources
seem fine.

- Try SB3 with a different receiverI was previously running the SB3
into my processor and then into the speakers. I can still do this if I
switch cables to the SB3 as I'm using both digital inputs to the
speakers. I am currently trying the SB direct to the speakers to see
how they go as the speakers will upsample internally etc.

- Next time it happens, instead of rebooting the SB3, try unplugging
and re-plugging the s/pdif cable.I'll try that. I'm not doubting
the cable as such (although wouldn't rule it out) but suspect this
might give the speakers another chance to lock. It is very odd though
that it has done it both sides now. I agree that spdif is normally
both channels. The Meridians work with one speaker as master which
gets the spdif feed first and then passes the full signal to the other
slave speaker. I haven't seen it on any other source or when the SB3
was into my processor.

- Try a different cable, or different type of cable (eg optical
instaead of coax) I can't do that to the speakers as they only have
spdif inputs. I can do that into the processor though. I'll try that
after trying the spdif back to the processor when it next happens.

- Next time it happens, try playing something at a different sample
rate (48KHz or 32KHz material) and see if it starts working again. This
causes the interface to have to re-syncI only have 44.1k flacs at
the moment. I'll have a look at some 48k PCM material I have on DVD.
Would going to standby and with both speakers and SB3 also not cause it
to re-sync ?

- Try toggling the l/r setting on the Meridians that's worth a
thought. However, I'll have to switch the DSP's off to do that so that
might be the same as unplugging the cable.

I guess I'll have to buy a Transporter so I can feed both direct to
speaker and via the processor simultaneously eh ;).

It's only happened twice in about a week so it may be a few days before
I catch it again.

I'll post back when I do.

All the best

[slim] Re: Still having MusicMagic Problems

2006-10-16 Thread pc4ever1

I've had similar problems in the past. Here's what I did to resolve:
Go into Slimserver's Server|Plugins and disable musicmagic
Then actually shut down the MusicIP Mixer program
Re-start MusicIP Mixer with the following command
/musicmagicmixer.exe -slim
Note: The -slim will make slimserver the default program for sent
mixes within MusicIP Mixer . As a double check go into MusicIP Mixer
Options to make sure this is true, plus check to see if the MusicIP
Server API Services are enabled.

Then start slimserver. Go to server|plugins to enable musicmagic
Then doublecheck that MusicIP Mixer is enabled by going into server
settings and make sure that Use Musicmagic is enabled/checked.

You should be good to go after this ( at least that is what has worked
for me in the past)

Good Luck

Meet a different model! Slimserver is made by it's users.

1) Only the people with problems post to the forums
2) The software is agressively cross platform, which if you are a user

Another painful thing is that you really need to *completely* remove

The upside is the community, the help that's offered on these forums is

[slim] Small corrections of the database? DS-106

2006-10-16 Thread tommypeters

I'm running SS 6.3.1 on a Synology DS-106. I don't know why, but a
clear/full rescan stops before it's completed. Sometimes with a lost
connection error message (some timeout?), sometimes without any error
message.

I thought that maybe there was something wrong with some of my files,
making the rescan to loop or crash, so I put just some of the files in
my music directory and did a rescan. It worked. I then added a few CD's
at a time and scanned new music.

When I had added all CD's that were previously in my music dir, and it
still worked, my theory of bad files seemed wrong. Now everything
works, with some small flaws. Flaws that are usually remedied with a
Clear and full rescan... Could that be fixed with some manual labour
 SQL skills instead?

For instance, if I forgot to place a folder.jpg in some CD folders, I
get an empty frame instead. Adding the folder and scan new doesn't
get it shown. Getting the files re-timestamped by rewriting the tags
doesn't get the album art shown - but sometimes add a second identical
copy of the same CD in the album browsing.

So, I want to get the newly added album art shown, and I want to remove
duplicates of albums. Is there any way to get to an SQL command prompt
on the DS-106 and make small corrections? Is there a way to backup the
entire database?

The saga continues.

I have now taken off all of 6.5.1 (or so I thought). Uninstalled from

Files).

Put 6.3.1 back on and same problem half the albums are under MP3's or
Web (the two parent directories - H:\web\mp3's. Despite this all the
other programs seem able to pick up the tags. If I go into slimserver
the tag is showing 2.4 and the same is showing in iTunes so why are
they both not showing the same thing.

Has anyone got any suggestions where I can go from here? This is really
getting to be a pain as I have spend most of the day trying to fix this
problem.

adjusting up down up down.

And when the adds come on well I've started to mute the sound as I
think the vol down button is nearing the end of its life with all the
use.

So I was thinking a little black box with some electronic or such like
wizzardery in it may be able to enhance the voices and normalize all
other volumes...
This is what I'm hoping for anyway.

Hope its a bit clearer.

So this compresor thing can you determine which frequencies you can

Yup, I started off using OpenLaszlo and it all went swimmingly until I
found out that the PSP flash implementation doesn't allow you to

OpenLaszlo is definitely the way to go for development though, very
easy to connect to databases (if supported in the version of Flash on

Is it still doing it? Does quitting/restarting softsqueeze fix it? What
about stopping/restarting the server?

[slim] Re: Still having MusicMagic Problems

2006-10-16 Thread Dougal

I have been using MusicIP with the send to option, but out of
curiosity I thought I would have a go at getting slimserver to use the
MusicIP database.

1. Following the instructions here:
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=24457highlight=musicip+service
to run MusicIP as a service on WinXP Pro sp2.

2. Reboot machine and check that MusicMagicServer.exe is running as a
service.

3. Check Use MusicMagic

4. Clear Music Folder of all information.

5. Do a clear and rescan.

The above seems to work OK, All tracks have MM after and appear to
create mixes OK.

Win XP Pro sp2
slimserver 6.5.1 2006-10-16
MusicIP 1.7

This info may help someone.

Doug.

Yes, can't seem to get it to work via Squeeze network,i get a fail to

If you are not running slimserver, then I assume you are thenconnected
to SqueezeNetwork. In this case, you can go to
www.squeezenetwork.com, login, and enter your radio passwords under
the Accounts and Music Services page,.

That URC MX-500 is a great remote. URC, www.universalremote.com, has a

compared to 10. Each device can have up to 8 pages of them, though (=
40 extra custom labeled buttons). It also can take a while to set up
as it's not computer programmable. But it's gotta be the best $50

[slim] Slimserver and .SMIL

2006-10-16 Thread Monster100

Good day. I'm a new member to the Slim Community and very grateful
for the existance of this forum. Thank you.

Here's my issue:

A buddy of mine wanted his SB2 to tune into RTE.ie - an internet radio
station that streams in Real Audio format. He followed all the
suggested steps from the 3rd Party Plug-in Forum - including
downloading AlienBBC 1.06, extracting the SIPR3260.dll file and placing
same into the Codecs folder, etc. Worked like a charm. Streaming
RTE.ie sweetly and flawlessly.

Since I also would like to stream RTE.ie, I attempted the exact same
procedure on my system...but hit a snag. When I copy the radio1.smil
link into the Alienstream folder on the following path:

d:\My Music\Playlists\AlienStream

the Slimserver does not find it. It finds the AlienStream folder just
fine. But when opened, the radio1.smil file is not inside. Just to
be sure, I placed a .m3u station (Radio Paradise) in the the same
folder right next to the radio1.smil file. Slimserver finds the .m3u
but not the .smil.

I should mention that AlienBBC is working fine on my system.

Any thoughts as to why Slimserver is not recognizing or finding
radio1.smil? Seems to work fine on my buddy's computer.

Thank you for your help!

No, my script assumes you place your files one album per directory,
which I stated in the text. I have yet to see a CD with enough tracks
to overload the command line.

Mine will also calculate album gain in addition to track gain. Yours
will not.
