I had a similar problem with a Lacie BigDisk. Finally it just died and turned out to be a bad disk controller. I would (a) make a backup of the important data on the disk and (b) run a SMART diagnostic tool to see if the Seagate disk reports any errors on the actual hard drive. [slim] Napster security and silm server
hi guys and gals, im having a little bit of trouble with theo whole slimserver app and my downloaded wma's from napster. Basically the security wont play the files via slimserver and whilst i've tried converting to mp3 i get a lot of pips and squeeks in the mp3 recordings. I also find the mp3's give a lesser quality in play back (tried 192bit and 320bit both can be pretty flakey). Thanks guys. I've removed the USB drive that has been getting the DWF message and reconnected it through one of the v1.1 USB ports. That was just over 12 hours ago and no problems so far. The other USB drive is still connected to the v2.0 USB card and no problems with it. I'm not completely sure that the cause is this extension but I haven't seen the problem previously. The slowdown is solved in my setup by restarting Firefox. Also another issue, the slimserver machine uses a lot of CPU when this extension is installed. I suspect it maybe polls slimserver to check the status a bit to often ? I'm not sure how the extension works, but maybe it would be possible to just issue a "listen" CLI command and then just wait for events when something happens ? Hi, I would be veruy interested in the otcome of all this. This is a thing that always bothered me. It just doesn't feel natural the way how it works right now. To me, the best solution would be that as soon as the play is pressed, 'now playing (with jump back)' screen is presented. Actually, when you look carefully the screen, this is what happens for a second, but then there's automatic jump back to the browse screen. So, it might not require awfully lot of change. I'm, wondering if there's a way to achieve that through the .map file for IR. Is it possible to ahve two commands executed for one button press. If you only have the one player then you can just tick one box for each. Assuming you want to stream WAV, then you can tick Monkey>WAV, FLAC>WAV, MP3>WAV, etc - and untick the other options, the server will do all the hard work. Otherwise, if you're happy for the SB to do the hard work with it's inbuilt support you can leave the formats native, so FLAC>FLAC, MP3>MP3, and so on. Default is normally letting the SB do the work. At the risk of adding confusion :) if you have more than one player, the format used depends on the bit-rate limiting you've applied to each player. So for me all my music is in FLAC, I have FLAC>WAV and FLAC>MP3 set. My SB has no bit-rate limiting so it receives WAV, for when I use Winamp on my laptop as a player I have bitrate set to 320 so the server automatically feeds me MP3 @ 320. -- Rangdo GRONDA GRONDA SB 2 [Stereovox XV2] > Benchmark DAC1 [NVA Soundpipe] > Cyrus Pre Xvs [NVA Soundpipe] > Cyrus X-Power [Chord Rumour 4] > MA GR20 Rangdo's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=5238 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=34783 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Playing 24/48
Each setting seems to have three options. I have; Monkeys Audio to Flac, Wav and MP3 - I cannot tick the boxes at all. Flac to Wav, MP3 and Flac - all ticked Wav to Flac, MP3 amd Wav - all ticked Is this correct ? Should I just be ticking one of the three ? For example Flac to Flac ? Re: [slim] Can't play my itunes files :-( ......and it's driving me mad. Please help!!
I tested AVG on a test machine and it didn't seem to cause the original problem which replacing socketwrapper fixed. Do you have any other special networking software installed such as a VPN client to access/use company network securely from home. I did a little bit of testing with socketwrapper and flipping between songs but couldn't reproduce the crashes. If you can think of any more details it might help (e.g. you were playing snippets from many songs as you were browsing, while song was playing you were doing many long searches etc.) -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=34754 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] SB3 power consumption
You could connect the brick to the SB3 to a timed plug and then have it turn off during the hours you are asleep or at work. My eight year old freezer consumes between 1.5KWh to 2.0KWh per day. A brand new freezer which is A++ energy rated would probably be around 0.5KwH -- Paul_B Paul ~ Slimserver 6.5.1 on EPIA VIA EN15000 Mini-ITX running Windows 2003 R2. So something running for 8 hours, drawing 4 watts (0.004 kilowatts), would consume 0.032kWh. mortslim;197843 Wrote: > 2. My refrigerator is 17 years old. Would I save by getting a new one? Re: [slim] Playing 24/48
To check you need to go into server settings and file formats. See what's ticked for the FLAC format, for mine I have FLAC>WAV so the decoding is done server-side but for some reason the server streams pure white noise (no music I can hear) on 24/48. But the SB can play 24/48 client-side with no trouble. -- Rangdo GRONDA GRONDA SB 2 [Stereovox XV2] > Benchmark DAC1 [NVA Soundpipe] > Cyrus Pre Xvs [NVA Soundpipe] > Cyrus X-Power [Chord Rumour 4] > MA GR20 Rangdo's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=5238 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=34783 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Playing 24/48
Where do I check where I am doing the FLAC conversion ? I think it's all being done at the Slim Server end but I could not see a setting in the Slimserver software. I've tried re-recording an LP and used FLAC Front End to do the WAV to FLAC conversio - same result. It's not "white noise" though - the row was so bad I thought it was at first but I can just about make out some musical content - so it 's just really, really gross distortion. I've checked signal strength and tried different locations - varied from 36% to 74%, not that it made any difference. I thought SB3 was capable of 24/48 files - or is there just far more difficulty in getting it to stream the larger files ? ??? -- liffy99 liffy99's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=7832 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=34783 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Help: Windows - Delayed Write Failed
This could be due to several reasons. The symptom is caused by Windows not being able to access the drive. 1. USB connection failing: check cable, connectors on both the PCI card and the enclosure, switch cables on drives, and connections etc, and see if the error occurs on the same drive. 2. your PCI USB card is faulty: check the drive with another USB port (not on the USB card) 3. The drive receives insufficient power: I assume these drives are full size with external power supply. You will hear a distinctive "tick" sound of the drive head hitting the drive when the power fails temporarily (the actually damages the drive as well). If this occurs, you need to find why the power to the drive is failing (is it in the enclosure, or in the socket you plugged it into?) 4. PCI USB card driver is misbehaving (i.e. conflict with other resources). Check for an updated driver from the manufacturer. These are all the pointer I have for you now. Hopefully you will have some success. regards Matt -- matthijskoopmans matthijskoopmans's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2622 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=34812 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

[slim] Transporter backlit remote now isn't
I noticed last night whilst fumbling around in the dark that the remote that came with my Transporter and used to be backlit isn't anymore. I can't find a setting to turn it on/off. Does anyone know if there is one... or what I might do to get it going again? All other aspects of it appear work. Thanks.
