What is your network set-up? I had similar problems when I had two
different wireless routers on different sub-nets. Once I forced them
both onto the same sub-net, the problem disappeared.

[slim] Waking up my PC (VISTA) with SB3

2008-03-23 Thread digdug

Hello,
I just bought my SB3 and I'm very happy with it. No drops in sound (as
with my previous DJ Logitech), high quality sound (through external
DAC)...
I'm now trying to wake up my PC (stand by mode on VISTA) when I switch
on the SB3.
I red about about WOL but not sure how it works and if this is what I
need.
My SB3 is connected by wifi to my internet box (livebox). And the box
is connected through ethernet to my PC.

Your help, would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks ! Happy Easter

Re: [slim] Podcast-like feed with streaming audio doesn't work with new software

2008-03-23 Thread Stig Nygaard

Hmm, just discovered that it might be a problem playing the audio stream
itself, unrelated to the RSS/podcast syntax...

This plays in Windows Media Player but doesn't play with SqueezeCenter
Tune in URL:

* http://www.dr.dk/forms/published/playlistgen.aspx?qid=627448

It seems to forward to another address, but entering this directly in
Tune in URL doesn't work either:

*
http://www.dr.dk/forms/published/playlistgen.aspx?qid=627448location=Lyngbyuri=http%3a%2f%2fwww.dr.dk%2fforms%2fpublished%2fplaylistgen.aspx

Audio codec: Windows Media Audio 9, 128 kbps, 48 kHz, stereo 1-pass
CBR

Is it because it seems to be sent with mime-type video/x-ms-asf ?

(BTW, is there a Tune in URL in SqueezeNetwork, I can't find it?)

Indeed. It is the same for me.

By reading through the source code, I found out that SlimServer is
calling the the following methods on shutdown:

 main.stopServer
 - main.cleanup
 -- schema.disconnect
 --- storage.dbh
  dbi.ensure_connected
 - dbi._populate_dbh
 -- dbi._connect
 --- bang!!

In other words, when the server stops, it tries to cleanup everything,
and in the process it attempts to *connect* to the database, which
since it has already been closed, crashes the application.

This is obviously a bug. Indeed it is not fatal since the application
is closing anyway. But it is still a bug, and it needs to be fixed.

Re: [slim] Waking up my PC (VISTA) with SB3

2008-03-23 Thread SilverRS8

There are basically a few steps to take:
-You need to enable WOL in the BIOS (often default)

NIC properties:
-You need to enable 'allow this device to wake up the computer' in the
'Power management' TAB
-Set 'Wake up capabilities' in Advanced Tab to 'Magic packet
pattern'
-Set 'Wake from shutdown' to On in the advanced TAB

Keyboard and mice properties:
-You need to disable 'Allow this the device to wakeup...' in the
powermanagement TAB of keyboard and mices listed in device manager.
This is a bug in Vista. If you don't do this Vista will go to sleep but
immediatly wake-up because there was a mouse or keyboard event.

Re: [slim] Another duet setup problem...

2008-03-23 Thread Zaragon

The blue light on the receiver indicates that it can't see
SqueezeCentre.

Once you have set up the receiver for wireless access, which was
successful, then plugging in an ethernet cable has no effect as it is
ignored. To configure for ethernet plug in the cable and then re-set it
up. Hold the button until flashing red then reconfigure with the
controller.

The receiver and the SqueezeCentre find each other using a broadcast
mechanism, as does the SB2. Broadcasts are limited to the subnet. It
seems that the receiver and SqueezeCentre are on different subnets.

However, since the controller found the SC the same way and then gave
that same config to the receiver I'm a little puzzled as to why they
can't see each other.

Not sure how you have your subnets configured and what security you
have between them. Have you blocked the receiver in some way where the
controller isn't?

Re: [slim] Need Help Connecting To Internet Radio Station

2008-03-23 Thread Bill333

Thanks for your help. I think the url does work, but when I connect to
it my DAC loses its connection to the squeezebox and shuts down. The
Squeezebox3's window shows its little frequency analyzer going up and
down, so it looks like it's playing, but since the DAC doesn't
recognize the signal there is no sound. I tried this on both my
Sqeezebox3 and my Duet Receiver with identical results. Is it possible
that the sqeezebox is putting out a nonstandard S/PDIF signal when
connected to this radio station? The other radio station that I put in
my favorites works fine.

Also, how did you find this URL? I ran Ethereal (a packet sniffer)
while I connected to the radio feed. and analyzed the communication
stream but was unable to get a working address. Is there a better
way?

Maybe we should put together a how-to guide for Slim Forums?

Re: [slim] No automatic standby

2008-03-23 Thread sunset-squeeze

My problem is not that it goes to sleep when it shouldn't.
Its that it won't automatically timeout and go to sleep when it
should.

I think I found an answer. I found that I got better results by
turning off the Intel Quick Resume function under Windows Power
Management. This is part of the Intel's Viiv technology. A google
search revealed a known issue(#5409) for Viiv at
http://downloadmirror.intel.com/12128/ENG/Release_1523.htm,

The system will not timeout to Hibernation or Standby via the system
inactivity timer if the system has awakened to Quick Resume mode from
Hibernation or Standby from a programmed video recording or a wake on
LAN event .
Workaround: Wake the system to S0 via the mouse or keyboard and then
allow the inactivity timer to expire or manually put the system in to
Hibernation or Standby.

This seems to fit the problem I originally reported. As far as I can
tell, Intel has not fixed this issue.

[slim] Controller restarts?

2008-03-23 Thread Svanur

Hello, just bought the Duet. Very nice, but I saw (since today) that it
happened now for 3 times that it reboots itself (the controller). I do
not know why it does that. During the setup the controller was updated
with a new version of the software. Then after a while I was going thru
the menus and saw the update software option. When I clicked it it said
that there was updated software available. Downloaded it and checked
the version, it was still the same before the manual download. Any
ideas why this is possible and how it comes that it restarts its selve.
I think it happened when the display is off (if you don't use it for 1,5
minute or so).

Grtz,

Svanur.

[slim] Need help.. Recevier won't connect....

2008-03-23 Thread wyzard

Good afternoon.

I'm setting up my Duet today. I have an Apple Time Capsule (similar to
an Airport Extreme).

I'm using WPA2 encryption on a private network (SSID not broadcast).

I have the control connected to my network. When I try to set up my
receiver for wireless, it won't connect. The light goes from flashing
red to solid yellow, then I get a connection error. I'm able to
connect through a wired connection and the remote is working fine with
a strong signal. Any thoughts?

I really want to get this working wirelessly and start enjoying it but
so far... no joy!!!

Please help!!

Thanks.

[slim] FLAC issues

2008-03-23 Thread Mark_H

I've been using a Squeezebox for a bunch of years now, serving FLACs to
the boxes around my house without issue. I've always had things set up
so that my FLACs are converted to WAV on the PC and only then streamed.

I noticed recently that tracks were getting chopped off in the last
second or so (particularly noticeable on gapless albums).

And then today (while playing with my new Duet - yummy) I found that
some FLACs wouldn't play at all... the tracks kept rebuffering but
never playing...

When I turned FLAC options back to NATIVE, ie stream FLAC and decode in
the client all the issues went away... turning back on the option to
force transcoding into WAV prior to streaming brought back the
problems...

So I have a solution (set FLAC decoding to NATIVE, although I'd prefer
to stick with my original setup as I felt it sounded better), but I
wanted to report the problem in case anybody has a similar setup and is
noticing problems.

I've only noticed this issue (track truncation) in the past month so I
guess it's a recent breakage...

Cheers,

Mark

[slim] No mixer links

2008-03-23 Thread Steve Bernard, Jr
I'm running the svn SqueezeCenter 7.0 on Ubuntu Linux. I'm at
revision 17963, currently, and I noticed since yesterday that I don't
see the MusicIP mixer links in my web interface or the icons on my
SB3. I verified that the MusicIP server is running and did a rescan
in the webui and definitely saw it import the MusicIP data, so it
looks like it should know it's there. Plus I ran scanner.pl with the
--musicmagic switch to see if that would make any difference, but it
doesn't look like it. I see the data is getting into the database,
but I can't make any mixes. Is there any other info I could get in
order to get an idea of what's wrong? I was also thinking of filing a
bug, but I never know when I should do that instead of just bringing
stuff up here.

Anywho, if anyone is in the same boat or has an idea of what I should
check, I'd like to hear it.

Re: [slim] Need Help Connecting To Internet Radio Station

2008-03-23 Thread bpa

The stream is a bit unusual in that it is a 48kHz stream and not the
usual 44.1kHz. The stream plays OK from the analogue output of SB3 so
I guess the problem is your DAC not understanding/expecting a 48KHz
signal.

How to find the URL - I just looked at the HTML and Javascript source
of the webpage.

Some users find URL Snooper (Windows only) a good tool without the need
to learn HTML etc.
see http://www.donationcoder.com/Software/Mouser/urlsnooper/

Maybe we should put together a how-to guide for Slim Forums?

Use the Wiki - start an entry and then other may be encouraged to add
their favorite technique/tip.

Re: [slim] m4a/aac =white noise, getting mad!!!!

I think the supplied m4a/aac decoder uses the Quicktime libraries and
sometime Apple breaks the libaries.

Why not move away from the Apple stuff to using faad or mplayer. I
think there are entries in the Wiki to get AAC support but mainly for
Linux not OSX.

[slim] Problems setting up receiver

2008-03-23 Thread EliteAV

I am having problems setting up my receiver - it is stuck on the blue
led phase (i.e. waiting to connect to a music source).

These are the steps I am following:

1) Put receiver (wireless) into setup mode (red light flashing)
2) Select Choose Player option on controller and select Squeezebox
N.
3) Set an IP address for the receiver (I dont have DHCP enabled on my
router) - this is in the range 192.168.1.nnn (i.e same subnet as
router).
4) Controller indicates Connecting to network, receiver led goes
from red to yellow then blue. Which confirms that the network settings
have been passed from the controller to the receiver, the receiver has
used these to create a (new) network connection and it now needs to
connect to a music source (SqueezeCenter, SqueezeNetwork etc).

5) Controller (after approx 1 min) says that setup failed - with
options to try again or skip. Trying again doesnt fix the problem. I am
not presented with the option to select a music source (for the
receiver).

I have tried power cyling the controller resetting the receiver
(holding led button for 6 seconds) and the restarting the process, but
to no avail.

The controller is working fine with my SB3 (wireless) and SC7 (on a
Vista PC - wired to router). I have a good wireless signal throughout
the house and dont have MAC filtering enabled on the router.

I am running out of ideas so any suggestions would be welcome!

disable weather/date/time. it seems to have a rather bad timer bug
that eventually explodes into 'insane number of timers' and many
backtraces like the one you included.
The author of the plugin needs to have a look at it. Most likely the
tictac() function simply needs to make sure that when it executes,
that it kills all other pending timers for tictac().

Re: [slim] Help ... Internal Rhapsody Error

Fixed the problem.
The computer that was running squeezecenter was also logged into the
Rhapsody web player. It did this automatically when I went to the
Rhapsody web site. Once I logged out of Rhapsody from the Rhapsody
website, squeezecenter worked AOK.
A suggestion would be to have some kind of error message in the
squeezecenter interface when this kind of error happens. It was a pain
to run around my house to see what the player was reporting.

Here is my file format settings in File Types ?

apple lossless FLAC alac/flac

Wave alac
working fine...

apple AAC or Movie File AIFF mov123 (or disabled)
FLAC mov123/flac (or
disabled)
mp3 disabled (or
mov123/lame)

If I try to set the mp3 to mov123/lame

I get this line:

Required binary was not found: lame for mov-mp3-*-*

I installed Lame in the /library/Itunes
I wonder if it's correct but anyway, It was working fine before I
upgrade Itunes.

My other question is about this file types settings,

why do I only have mov123 ? I thought it was'nt working on OS X.

What is strange is that I have this message in the audio setting...

The LAME encoder appears to be installed correctly on your system.

No, it doesn't sound familiar.

Are you downloading the SqueezeCenter 7.0 official release or a more
recent 7.0.1 nightly build? Sometimes the nightly builds are broken.

If you're using the same computer and same browser to do the subsequent
downloads, often the browser will just save a cached version of the file
instead of downloading it again (usually you can tell when the download
is very fast). Try using a different browser and downloading SC7
again.

Re: [slim] Help ... Internal Rhapsody Error

2008-03-23 Thread jbuberel

I am getting the same error message on my squeezebox display:

Code:

Internal Rhapsody Error: Unable to authenticate the user

I am not running any Rhapsody.com client software (I am using an Ubuntu
Linux desktop PC) or the Sqeezeserver. The sqeezebox connects to the net
using my WiFi network. I have verified that the problem is not related
to network connectivity by successfully playing streaming internet

I then visited rhapsody.com, logged in to my account, then immediately
logged out. I then power-cycled the squeezebox.

Returning to squeezenetworkc.com, I once again tried to play any
Rhapsody.com track. The same error message appeared.

So at this point, I am stuck - no more Rhapsody for me!

Re: [slim] Help ... Internal Rhapsody Error

2008-03-23 Thread SingleTrack

About the only thing I could suggest would be to go back to Rhapsody.com
(I assume this is on the machine that is running squeezecenter), and log
in and try and play a song. Perhaps there is something else that is
preventing it from playing. Once you have played a song out of
Rhapsody.com, log out and then access squeezecenter through the web
interface from the same computer and try to play a rhapsody song from
there to see if that works.
I assume you have never had the rhapsody client installed on that
machine. If that is not the case, you might want to try reinstalling
the client, see if it work, then uninstalling the client, rebooting and
see if SC works.
If that doesn't work I don't have any other suggestions. Sorry.

Re: [slim] m4a/aac =white noise, getting mad!!!!

2008-03-23 Thread bpa

hanks for your answer but it seems that Lame should work for me on OS X
 , no?

Lame is used to encode WAV into MP3 not decode M4A/AAC. It is used if
you want to transcode any format (incl. m4a) into MP3. Normally users
leave the settings at the default using Flac to create Flac streams.

Only mov123 decodes M4A/AAC files but it uses the QuickTime libraries
supplied by Apple. If you update QT - then it can affect mov123 which
if nothing else has changed, I am guessing is what has happened.

I suggested using faad or mplayer instead of mov133 as they do not use
QT and so break the dependence on Apple QT.

Re: [slim] Interlochen Classical URL?

2008-03-23 Thread bpa

The URL above
http://wttw.ic.llnwd.net/stream/wttw_wfmt_MP3

Which I located for another user plays perfectly well for minutes. The
original URL the user posted has the ad.

Do note it is a 48kHz stream and plays OK with SB3 analogue but using
digital output may have an issue with some DACs/Receivers.

Re: [slim] Problems setting up receiver

2008-03-23 Thread Zaragon

I'd suggest that you check the address that you gave the receiver is
correct and that it is on the same subnet as the rest of the network,
particularly the SqueezeCentre.

If the router has the capability try pinging the receiver, it should
respond.

You can also try: tracert -d receiver_ip from the server to see just
how far it gets.

Check that the mac address that you have in the router does match that
of the receiver and that it doesn't duplicate any other device on the
network.

Try, temporarily, connecting the receiver to the router although this
will require you to plug it in first and then to reset it and go
through the set up again.

[slim] DRM track in Playlists causes scanner to quit scan

2008-03-23 Thread botogol

It's taken me so long to work this out (grumble)

If a playlist created in WMP contains even a single DRM-protected track
then Squeezecenter 7.0 scan crashes out and the scan of the playlist
folder ceases and is not completed.

This is really annoying.

I understand SqueezeCentre can't play DRM tracks, but it needs to be
fixed so that it simply skips over them. It's not right that it casues
the whole scan to crash.

please can this be fixed.

Zaragon, thanks for the suggestions. These are the results:

1) PC IP running SqueezeCenter IP is 192.168.1.24, SBR is 192.168.1.30
so on same subnet.

2) Pinging SBR from router times out, however, the router does show the
SBR as a connected wireless client (the MAC address of the SBR is
listed, but not the IP address).

3) tracert times out.

4) I have checked the MAC address of the SBR against all other devices
on my network it is unique.

5) Wiring the SBR into a hub and performing the setup works. However,
the location where the SBR will be sited (on ground floor) doesnt have
a network socket, so I do need to be able to use it wirelessly. What is
odd is that I have been using an SB3 (on ground floor) wirelessly for a
few years without any problems and nothing on my network config or SC
setup has changed.

I wonder whether there is a problem with the sensitivity of the
wireless card in the SBR as I noticed when running the setup from the
SBC (and the SBC creates it's own adhoc network connection), I only
need to move the SBC a dozen feet from the SBR and the SBR disappears
of the SBC players list. Or perhaps there is a problem with the code in
the SBR that handles the config of new wireless (WEP secured)
connections. All very odd.

Re: [slim] Problems setting up receiver

2008-03-23 Thread Zaragon

The ad-hoc connection doesn't use as much wireless power so the range is
reduced.

I understand about you wanting to use wireless the reason for checking
wired was just to prove that it could connect.

I take it that it would be normal for your router to show the IP
address address of wirelessly connected devices. So it does suggest to
me that although the receiver is attached to the router it hasn't been
allowed access.

I don't recall if the receiver changes it's light colour if it fails
authentication but I don't think so. It may be therefore that the wep
key doesn't match Key 1 in the router. I originally said the above but I
recall that you said the controller
is connected OK so as it passes on the setup to the receiver the key
will be correct. (I left it in for reference in case it is useful to
anyone else.)

The receiver should be as capable of wireless as the SB3 but the
orientation of the aerials is slightly different because it lies down
rather than being on it's edge. You could try to see if the signal
strength is the problem by moving it next to the router temporarily.

It may also be worth temporarily disabling security on the router and
checking that. I can't really see why it would make a difference but
I've seen dafter things work before.

I don't have a Mac so all I can do is offer general advice.

First - make sure the problem really is QT and not some other changes
you made. Otherwise you will go through a lot of changes and may not
have audio at the end.

If you are not very computer literate, mplayer is a more complicated
install on a Mac so try the faad instructions as per the wiki first.
Only if faad fails should you try mplayer.

There are a number of faad ports for Leopard but you don't say which
processor.

Re: [slim] help with wireless signal

2008-03-23 Thread Goodsounds

Do an internet search for wifi signal boost, and you will come upon a
wealth of info. I am familiar with the following two approaches (among
many):

1. Cardboard and aluminum foil (don't laugh)
2. A wok

Two pieces of foil covering two pieces of cardboard at a 90 degree
angle (like a corner of two walls). Place this on the side of your
router AWAY from the intended signal direction, aimed so a line that
bisects the small (90 deg) angle points toward the target. Sounds
stupid but this will provide a significant boost to your signal. For
another floor, remember to aim it up or down. Similarly, a wok on the
back side of the router, with the open part pointing toward the target,
will do the same thing.

The ones I'm using on a Linksys router are about 6 inches tall, with
wings of about 4 inches long. I cut these out of the corner of a
cardboard box, so they came ready-made with a 90 degree angle. Add
one layer of foil, you're in business.

A wok (like a parabolic mirror) will concentrate the signal, but a
little less attractively.

I have a desktop computer with one of those cheapo USB wifi Nics at the
far end of the house from the router. Many walls for the signal to
traverse. Before enhancement, the network connection was 6 MB on a good
day with a low signal, sometimes 1-2 MB speed, and constant signal
drops. With my booster devices in place (my linksys has two small
antennae) - 24-36 MB connections are normal with a good signal strength
and no drops. One of my SB3s is nearby, the signal and performance are
consistently trouble-free.

Good luck.

Re: [slim] accesing slimcenter from another computer on my network

2008-03-23 Thread danco

127.0.0.1 is a self-reference, always referring to the computer on which
you are working.

You need the network address of the computer. If your router is at
192.168.1.1 (they vary, but it is usually something like that), the
computer will have an address of form 192.168.1.x for some x.

But x can vary from time to time, unless you set a static address. How
you set a static address will depend on your OS and router.

ability to adjust the volume of the individual players as well as

Which brings me to a related question. Has anyone ever posted a bounty

[slim] No analog output after updating to SqueezeCenter 7.0 and Squeezebox firmware 86

2008-03-23 Thread geoperkins

Searched the forums, no answers there, I hope a forum member can help.

After having good luck and enjoying my functioning SqueezeBox3 for a
long while, and happy, I took the plunge. I updated to SqueezeCenter
7.0 and SB firmware 86. Now I get no output on the analog outputs on
the SB. (Not sure of output on digital, don't have the digital cable
connected to the receiver, prefer the high-quality DAC in SB to what's
in my receiver.)

The SB display appears to indicate that sound should be playing, yet
nothing. I have tried listening to Internet Radio, the Sounds
plug-ins, as well (of course) as my FLAC music collection. (Yes, the
obvious things like cables, receiver, Ethernet, etc. are all 100%
functional. SC running on WinXP fully patched, hard-wired Ethernet, SB
on a 5800+Joule surge protector, power correction).

I have gone through the SC and SB settings looking at everything, they
all look okay, like this should just work. SB volume is set to 100% and
still nothing.

What are the next troubleshooting steps I should take?

Zaragon, that was a good suggestion! I disabled WEP on the router,
setup the Controller again, then tried to setup the receiver.
Initially, the receiver got to the blue LED stage and the controller
said that the setup had failed. I power cycled the Controller, selected
the Select Player option and when I did this, I could then select a
music source.

It looks like there may be a problem with the handover of the WEP key
from the controller to receiver?

Obviously, I dont want to leave my wireless network so will try
switching to WPA instead will report back my findings. I have spent
hours on this ( I work in IT so am used to doing this sort of thing
for a living, albeit with software rather than hardware), so your
assistance has been a big help.

On a side note, I have noticed that my controller seems to reboot

Re: [slim] The 'Duet' is here

2008-03-23 Thread rsilvers

I have two Duets now as a few hours after trying the first one I ordered
another. I love how the controller wakes up just by moving it plus all
the expected features.

It took me a few hours to get it set up because at first I had the
receiver wired into Ethernet and did not know to select 'connect
through other wireless network.' I think the manual explains this but I
did not see it at first, so my fault but I think the remote could have
given more info on the display so that I would not have needed the
manual.

I knew the remote had 802.11 but did not realize it could talk directly
to the receiver. Also tech support on the phone was calling the remote
the 'squeeze box' and that really confused me as I think of the
receiver as the squeeze box.

In any case, please enable the headphone jack! Someone posted over 10
pages ago this would not be useful as the remote was larger than most
portable music players. I don't see what that has to do with anything
since it only works at home anyway and you will not be jogging with it.
Also I don't have an iPod which has all of my music in it. My music is
115 GB and mostly in AppleLossless. And has someone said, you can put
it on the deck with portable speakers for a party. I want to be able to
lie in bed and use the remote with headphones.

ASAP would be great.

If you're using plugins you can't live without, you might check to see

Re: [slim] No analog output after updating to SqueezeCenter 7.0 and Squeezebox firmware 86

2008-03-23 Thread maggior

I've read that doing a reset on the xilinx chip can solve problems
similar to this. It is easy to do, so regardless it is worth a try.

A quote from another thread:
Press and hold the 1 button on your remote during bootup to do
this.

Perhaps in the FW upgrade the occurs when moving to SC, the xilinx got
scrambled.

Good luck.

Re: [slim] help with wireless signal

2008-03-23 Thread jdbaker

Goodsounds,

Thanks for the help, the Netgear Router has a domed antenna, I made one
foil corner to your specs., set it on the backside of the router with
the bisect aimed in the correct direction and the SB3 wireless signal
jumped to 41%. Big improvement, if I get the router moved to a higher
position this just might work out. Thanks again.

Re: [slim] accesing slimcenter from another computer on my network

2008-03-23 Thread slimpy

There's no reason to run remote desktop when you can simply use a web
browser to control squeezecenter from another computer.
All you need is the IP address of the server PC.
To find out the server's IP open a command window (Start - run - type
cmd, enter), type ipconfig and hit enter.
The IP address of your server PC will be shown.
On any other computer on your network simply type
http://server-IP-address-you-looked-up-previously:9000
in any browser window's address bar.

To find out your server's IP address you can also navigate to
Settins - Information - Squeezecenter Information - Host IP Address
using the remote on your SB3.

-s.

Not sure if I can point anything out, but you -seem- to be saying that
MusicIP -had- been working(?)
Had you made any possibly-relevant changes since then? Upgrade from 7.0
to b17963, say... or something else?
When I first setup MusicIP, I had to restart SC before the icons
appeared. This probably won't help your situation, but it's easy enough
to do, so possibly worth a try.

[slim] SC7 sync and rebuffering problems

2008-03-23 Thread exile

so with the encouragement of another thread here recently talking about
the improvements in synching players I decided to take the plunge and
upgrade from 6.5.4 to sc7.

All went well in upgrading the software and all of my plugins. But now
I have introduced a whole new can of worms into my system.

my system: Mac G4 running osx 10.4.10. comcast cable modem Buffalo
whr-hp-g54 router

sb2- wired
slimp3 - wired into a netgear xe102 homeplug. works consistently.

with 6.5.4 my sb2 worked flawlessly. my slimp3 worked almost flawlessly
with the occasional hiccup due to it's lacking a buffer. I could synch
the two players but often times the sync would drift.

now with 7.0.1 i have almost continuous sync problems between the two
players as well as a new problem- recurring rebuffering in both players
even when they are playing in a solo situation-although it seems to
occur more on the slimp3 which i would expect.

When the players are synched, I push play and there's a 5-10 second
delay until music starts. It then plays for a second or two and then
stops for another 5-10 secs and then continues uninterrupted until it
hits the end of a song. then the players go through a process of
rebuffering, pausing and then usually playing the next song. this
process of rebuffering, pausing and then finally playing seems to
lesson as i move through a playlist but it doesn't go away. here's what
the log shows:

HTTP/1.1 200 OK
Server: SqueezeCenter (7.0.1 - 17957)
Connection: keep-alive
Date: Mon, 24 Mar 2008 03:49:28 GMT
Content-Length: 289
Content-Type: text/plain

frame 6: (eval)
(/Library/PreferencePanes/SqueezeCenter.prefPane/Contents/server/Slim/Utils/Timers.pm
line 198)
frame 7: Slim::Utils::Timers::checkTimers (./slimserver.pl line
506)
frame 8: main::idle (./slimserver.pl line 453)
frame 9: main::main (./slimserver.pl line 1005)

when playing from just one player, I also have rebuffering problems.
this is something I have almost never experienced with my sb2 before.
This is the log from one of the rebuffering hiccups:

HTTP/1.1 200 OK
Server: SqueezeCenter (7.0.1 - 17957)
Connection: keep-alive
Date: Mon, 24 Mar 2008 03:45:51 GMT
Content-Length: 298
Content-Type: text/plain

frame 14: (eval)
(/Library/PreferencePanes/SqueezeCenter.prefPane/Contents/server/Slim/Networking/Select.pm
line 243)
frame 15: Slim::Networking::Select::select (./slimserver.pl line
503)
frame 16: main::idle (./slimserver.pl line 453)
frame 17: main::main (./slimserver.pl line 1005)

so that's a basic lay of the land. any ideas on how to move forward on
troubleshooting? thanks in advance. I want to fall in love with the new
and improved squeezecenter but at the moment it's driving me crazy.

Re: [slim] SC7 - Itunes- Playlists

2008-03-23 Thread jdbaker

I figured it out, searched the support pages and found the answer, the
basic settings page should be left blank if you are using iTunes to
manage your library. Point SC to where your iTunes xml file and music
files are and it works like a charm.

Otherwise you may need some hardware setup - my NIC required a small
wire from NIC to MB, but since you are running Vista I believe your HW
is a lot never than mine.

Well, I checked the BIOS and there were 2 settings that I thought were
related to WOL.

Wake-Up by Ring (was enabled) and Power Up ON PCI/PCIE Devices (was not
enabled). Both of these options were in the Power Management Section of
the BIOS. I enabled Power Up on PCI/PCI Devices and tried it again.
Put the PC to Sleep, hit the power button on both of my Squeezeboxes (1
wired, 1 wireless) and neither woke up the PC or was able to connect.

And Yes, the PC is fairly new. 7 months old.

So I am at a loss at this point.

Most netgears are supplied with feet's so you can have it standing on
one shortside, this changes the orientation of the antenna.
wifi ap's have tendency to beam in a plane wich makes sense if
everything is on the same floor, think small office.
So try a couple of different orientation's
