[slim] Waking up my PC (VISTA) with SB3
Hello, I just bought my SB3 and I'm very happy with it. No drops in sound (as with my previous DJ Logitech), high quality sound (through external DAC)... I'm now trying to wake up my PC (stand by mode on VISTA) when I switch on the SB3. I red about about WOL but not sure how it works and if this is what I need. My SB3 is connected by wifi to my internet box (livebox). And the box is connected through ethernet to my PC. Your help, would be greatly appreciated. Thanks ! Re: [slim] Waking up my PC (VISTA) with SB3
There are basically a few steps to take: -You need to enable WOL in the BIOS (often default) NIC properties: -You need to enable 'allow this device to wake up the computer' in the 'Power management' TAB -Set 'Wake up capabilities' in Advanced Tab to 'Magic packet pattern' -Set 'Wake from shutdown' to On in the advanced TAB Keyboard and mice properties: -You need to disable 'Allow this the device to wakeup...' in the powermanagement TAB of keyboard and mices listed in device manager. This is a bug in Vista. If you don't do this Vista will go to sleep but immediatly wake-up because there was a mouse or keyboard event. Re: [slim] Another duet setup problem...
The blue light on the receiver indicates that it can't see SqueezeCentre. Once you have set up the receiver for wireless access, which was successful, then plugging in an ethernet cable has no effect as it is ignored. To configure for ethernet plug in the cable and then re-set it up. Hold the button until flashing red then reconfigure with the controller. The receiver and the SqueezeCentre find each other using a broadcast mechanism, as does the SB2. Broadcasts are limited to the subnet. It seems that the receiver and SqueezeCentre are on different subnets. However, since the controller found the SC the same way and then gave that same config to the receiver I'm a little puzzled as to why they can't see each other. Not sure how you have your subnets configured and what security you have between them. Have you blocked the receiver in some way where the controller isn't? -- Zaragon Zaragon's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=14577 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=45174 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Need Help Connecting To Internet Radio Station
Thanks for your help. I think the url does work, but when I connect to it my DAC loses its connection to the squeezebox and shuts down. The Squeezebox3's window shows its little frequency analyzer going up and down, so it looks like it's playing, but since the DAC doesn't recognize the signal there is no sound. I tried this on both my Sqeezebox3 and my Duet Receiver with identical results. Is it possible that the sqeezebox is putting out a nonstandard S/PDIF signal when connected to this radio station? The other radio station that I put in my favorites works fine. Also, how did you find this URL? Re: [slim] No automatic standby
My problem is not that it goes to sleep when it shouldn't. Its that it won't automatically timeout and go to sleep when it should. I think I found an answer. I found that I got better results by turning off the Intel Quick Resume function under Windows Power Management. This is part of the Intel's Viiv technology. A google search revealed a known issue(#5409) for Viiv at http://downloadmirror.intel.com/12128/ENG/Release_1523.htm, The system will not timeout to Hibernation or Standby via the system inactivity timer if the system has awakened to Quick Resume mode from Hibernation or Standby from a programmed video recording or a wake on LAN event . Workaround: Wake the system to S0 via the mouse or keyboard and then allow the inactivity timer to expire or manually put the system in to Hibernation or Standby. This seems to fit the problem I originally reported. As far as I can tell, Intel has not fixed this issue. -- sunset-squeeze sunset-squeeze's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=16220 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=43752 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
[slim] Controller restarts?
Hello, just bought the Duet. Very nice, but I saw (since today) that it happened now for 3 times that it reboots itself (the controller). I do not know why it does that. During the setup the controller was updated with a new version of the software. Then after a while I was going thru the menus and saw the update software option. When I clicked it it said that there was updated software available. Downloaded it and checked the version, it was still the same before the manual download. Any ideas why this is possible and how it comes that it restarts its selve. I think it happened when the display is off (if you don't use it for 1,5 minute or so). [slim] FLAC issues
I've been using a Squeezebox for a bunch of years now, serving FLACs to the boxes around my house without issue. I've always had things set up so that my FLACs are converted to WAV on the PC and only then streamed. I noticed recently that tracks were getting chopped off in the last second or so (particularly noticeable on gapless albums). And then today (while playing with my new Duet - yummy) I found that some FLACs wouldn't play at all... the tracks kept rebuffering but never playing... When I turned FLAC options back to NATIVE, ie stream FLAC and decode in the client all the issues went away... turning back on the option to force transcoding into WAV prior to streaming brought back the problems... So I have a solution (set FLAC decoding to NATIVE, although I'd prefer to stick with my original setup as I felt it sounded better), but I wanted to report the problem in case anybody has a similar setup and is noticing problems. I've only noticed this issue (track truncation) in the past month so I guess it's a recent breakage... [slim] No mixer links
I'm running the svn SqueezeCenter 7.0 on Ubuntu Linux. I'm at revision 17963, currently, and I noticed since yesterday that I don't see the MusicIP mixer links in my web interface or the icons on my SB3. I verified that the MusicIP server is running and did a rescan in the webui and definitely saw it import the MusicIP data, so it looks like it should know it's there. Plus I ran scanner.pl with the --musicmagic switch to see if that would make any difference, but it doesn't look like it. I see the data is getting into the database, but I can't make any mixes. Is there any other info I could get in order to get an idea of what's wrong? I was also thinking of filing a bug, but I never know when I should do that instead of just bringing stuff up here. Anywho, if anyone is in the same boat or has an idea of what I should check, I'd like to hear it. -Steve ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Need Help Connecting To Internet Radio Station
The stream is a bit unusual in that it is a 48kHz stream and not the usual 44.1kHz. The stream plays OK from the analogue output of SB3 so I guess the problem is your DAC not understanding/expecting a 48KHz signal. How to find the URL - I just looked at the HTML and Javascript source of the webpage. Some users find URL Snooper (Windows only) a good tool without the need to learn HTML etc. see http://www.donationcoder.com/Software/Mouser/urlsnooper/ Maybe we should put together a how-to guide for Slim Forums? [slim] Problems setting up receiver
I am having problems setting up my receiver - it is stuck on the blue led phase (i.e. waiting to connect to a music source). These are the steps I am following: 1) Put receiver (wireless) into setup mode (red light flashing) 2) Select Choose Player option on controller and select Squeezebox N. 3) Set an IP address for the receiver (I dont have DHCP enabled on my router) - this is in the range 192.168.1.nnn (i.e same subnet as router). 4) Controller indicates Connecting to network, receiver led goes from red to yellow then blue. Which confirms that the network settings have been passed from the controller to the receiver, the receiver has used these to create a (new) network connection and it now needs to connect to a music source (SqueezeCenter, SqueezeNetwork etc). 5) Controller (after approx 1 min) says that setup failed - with options to try again or skip. Trying again doesnt fix the problem. I am not presented with the option to select a music source (for the receiver). I have tried power cyling the controller resetting the receiver (holding led button for 6 seconds) and the restarting the process, but to no avail. The controller is working fine with my SB3 (wireless) and SC7 (on a Vista PC - wired to router). I have a good wireless signal throughout the house and dont have MAC filtering enabled on the router. About the only thing I could suggest would be to go back to Rhapsody.com (I assume this is on the machine that is running squeezecenter), and log in and try and play a song. Perhaps there is something else that is preventing it from playing. Once you have played a song out of Rhapsody.com, log out and then access squeezecenter through the web interface from the same computer and try to play a rhapsody song from there to see if that works. I assume you have never had the rhapsody client installed on that machine. If that is not the case, you might want to try reinstalling the client, see if it work, then uninstalling the client, rebooting and see if SC works. Re: [slim] m4a/aac =white noise, getting mad!!!!
hanks for your answer but it seems that Lame should work for me on OS X , no? Lame is used to encode WAV into MP3 not decode M4A/AAC. It is used if you want to transcode any format (incl. m4a) into MP3. Normally users leave the settings at the default using Flac to create Flac streams. Only mov123 decodes M4A/AAC files but it uses the QuickTime libraries supplied by Apple. If you update QT - then it can affect mov123 which if nothing else has changed, I am guessing is what has happened. I suggested using faad or mplayer instead of mov133 as they do not use QT and so break the dependence on Apple QT. -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=45183 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

These are the results: 1) PC IP running SqueezeCenter IP is 192.168.1.24, SBR is 192.168.1.30 so on same subnet. 2) Pinging SBR from router times out, however, the router does show the SBR as a connected wireless client (the MAC address of the SBR is listed, but not the IP address). 3) tracert times out. 4) I have checked the MAC address of the SBR against all other devices on my network it is unique. 5) Wiring the SBR into a hub and performing the setup works. However, the location where the SBR will be sited (on ground floor) doesnt have a network socket, so I do need to be able to use it wirelessly. What is odd is that I have been using an SB3 (on ground floor) wirelessly for a few years without any problems and nothing on my network config or SC setup has changed. I wonder whether there is a problem with the sensitivity of the wireless card in the SBR as I noticed when running the setup from the SBC (and the SBC creates it's own adhoc network connection), I only need to move the SBC a dozen feet from the SBR and the SBR disappears of the SBC players list. Or perhaps there is a problem with the code in the SBR that handles the config of new wireless (WEP secured) connections. Re: [slim] Problems setting up receiver
The ad-hoc connection doesn't use as much wireless power so the range is reduced. I understand about you wanting to use wireless the reason for checking wired was just to prove that it could connect. I take it that it would be normal for your router to show the IP address address of wirelessly connected devices. So it does suggest to me that although the receiver is attached to the router it hasn't been allowed access. I don't recall if the receiver changes it's light colour if it fails authentication but I don't think so. It may be therefore that the wep key doesn't match Key 1 in the router. I originally said the above but I recall that you said the controller is connected OK so as it passes on the setup to the receiver the key will be correct. (I left it in for reference in case it is useful to anyone else.) The receiver should be as capable of wireless as the SB3 but the orientation of the aerials is slightly different because it lies down rather than being on it's edge. You could try to see if the signal strength is the problem by moving it next to the router temporarily. It may also be worth temporarily disabling security on the router and checking that. I can't really see why it would make a difference but I've seen dafter things work before. -- Zaragon Zaragon's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=14577 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=45196 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

I don't have a Mac so all I can do is offer general advice. First - make sure the problem really is QT and not some other changes you made. Otherwise you will go through a lot of changes and may not have audio at the end. If you are not very computer literate, mplayer is a more complicated install on a Mac so try the faad instructions as per the wiki first. Only if faad fails should you try mplayer. There are a number of faad ports for Leopard but you don't say which processor. -- bpa bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=45183 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] help with wireless signal
Do an internet search for wifi signal boost, and you will come upon a wealth of info. I am familiar with the following two approaches (among many): 1. Cardboard and aluminum foil (don't laugh) 2. A wok Two pieces of foil covering two pieces of cardboard at a 90 degree angle (like a corner of two walls). Place this on the side of your router AWAY from the intended signal direction, aimed so a line that bisects the small (90 deg) angle points toward the target. Sounds stupid but this will provide a significant boost to your signal. For another floor, remember to aim it up or down. Similarly, a wok on the back side of the router, with the open part pointing toward the target, will do the same thing. The ones I'm using on a Linksys router are about 6 inches tall, with wings of about 4 inches long. I cut these out of the corner of a cardboard box, so they came ready-made with a 90 degree angle. Add one layer of foil, you're in business. A wok (like a parabolic mirror) will concentrate the signal, but a little less attractively. I have a desktop computer with one of those cheapo USB wifi Nics at the far end of the house from the router. Many walls for the signal to traverse. Before enhancement, the network connection was 6 MB on a good day with a low signal, sometimes 1-2 MB speed, and constant signal drops. With my booster devices in place (my linksys has two small antennae) - 24-36 MB connections are normal with a good signal strength and no drops. One of my SB3s is nearby, the signal and performance are consistently trouble-free. Good luck. -- Goodsounds Goodsounds's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=14201 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=44509 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] accesing slimcenter from another computer on my network
127.0.0.1 is a self-reference, always referring to the computer on which you are working. You need the network address of the computer. If your router is at 192.168.1.1 (they vary, but it is usually something like that), the computer will have an address of form 192.168.1.x for some x. But x can vary from time to time, unless you set a static address. [slim] No analog output after updating to SqueezeCenter 7.0 and Squeezebox firmware 86
Searched the forums, no answers there, I hope a forum member can help. After having good luck and enjoying my functioning SqueezeBox3 for a long while, and happy, I took the plunge. I updated to SqueezeCenter 7.0 and SB firmware 86. Now I get no output on the analog outputs on the SB. (Not sure of output on digital, don't have the digital cable connected to the receiver, prefer the high-quality DAC in SB to what's in my receiver.) The SB display appears to indicate that sound should be playing, yet nothing. I have tried listening to Internet Radio, the Sounds plug-ins, as well (of course) as my FLAC music collection. (Yes, the obvious things like cables, receiver, Ethernet, etc. are all 100% functional. SC running on WinXP fully patched, hard-wired Ethernet, SB on a 5800+Joule surge protector, power correction). I have gone through the SC and SB settings looking at everything, they all look okay, like this should just work. SB volume is set to 100% and still nothing. Re: [slim] The 'Duet' is here
I have two Duets now as a few hours after trying the first one I ordered another. I love how the controller wakes up just by moving it plus all the expected features. It took me a few hours to get it set up because at first I had the receiver wired into Ethernet and did not know to select 'connect through other wireless network.' I think the manual explains this but I did not see it at first, so my fault but I think the remote could have given more info on the display so that I would not have needed the manual. I knew the remote had 802.11 but did not realize it could talk directly to the receiver. Also tech support on the phone was calling the remote the 'squeeze box' and that really confused me as I think of the receiver as the squeeze box. In any case, please enable the headphone jack! Someone posted over 10 pages ago this would not be useful as the remote was larger than most portable music players. I don't see what that has to do with anything since it only works at home anyway and you will not be jogging with it. Also I don't have an iPod which has all of my music in it. My music is 115 GB and mostly in AppleLossless. And has someone said, you can put it on the deck with portable speakers for a party. I want to be able to lie in bed and use the remote with headphones. [slim] SC7 sync and rebuffering problems
so with the encouragement of another thread here recently talking about the improvements in synching players I decided to take the plunge and upgrade from 6.5.4 to sc7. All went well in upgrading the software and all of my plugins. But now I have introduced a whole new can of worms into my system. my system: Mac G4 running osx 10.4.10. comcast cable modem Buffalo whr-hp-g54 router sb2- wired slimp3 - wired into a netgear xe102 homeplug. works consistently. with 6.5.4 my sb2 worked flawlessly. my slimp3 worked almost flawlessly with the occasional hiccup due to it's lacking a buffer. I could synch the two players but often times the sync would drift. now with 7.0.1 i have almost continuous sync problems between the two players as well as a new problem- recurring rebuffering in both players even when they are playing in a solo situation-although it seems to occur more on the slimp3 which i would expect. When the players are synched, I push play and there's a 5-10 second delay until music starts. It then plays for a second or two and then stops for another 5-10 secs and then continues uninterrupted until it hits the end of a song. then the players go through a process of rebuffering, pausing and then usually playing the next song. this process of rebuffering, pausing and then finally playing seems to lesson as i move through a playlist but it doesn't go away. here's what the log shows: HTTP/1.1 200 OK Server: SqueezeCenter (7.0.1 - 17957) Connection: keep-alive Date: Mon, 24 Mar 2008 03:49:28 GMT Content-Length: 289 Content-Type: text/plain frame 6: (eval) (/Library/PreferencePanes/SqueezeCenter.prefPane/Contents/server/Slim/Utils/Timers.pm line 198) frame 7: Slim::Utils::Timers::checkTimers (./slimserver.pl line 506) frame 8: main::idle (./slimserver.pl line 453) frame 9: main::main (./slimserver.pl line 1005) when playing from just one player, I also have rebuffering problems. this is something I have almost never experienced with my sb2 before. This is the log from one of the rebuffering hiccups: HTTP/1.1 200 OK Server: SqueezeCenter (7.0.1 - 17957) Connection: keep-alive Date: Mon, 24 Mar 2008 03:45:51 GMT Content-Length: 298 Content-Type: text/plain frame 14: (eval) (/Library/PreferencePanes/SqueezeCenter.prefPane/Contents/server/Slim/Networking/Select.pm line 243) frame 15: Slim::Networking::Select::select (./slimserver.pl line 503) frame 16: main::idle (./slimserver.pl line 453) frame 17: main::main (./slimserver.pl line 1005) so that's a basic lay of the land. any ideas on how to move forward on troubleshooting? thanks in advance. How can i make sure all of my itunes playlists are in the same spot? I can never get SC to find 100% of my playlists... always missing about 1/3 of them for some reason... it's got to be for whatever reason, some of my itunes playlists are stored in different locations???
