Working on it for iPeng.
Until it's ready I use streaming apps like Tuner to play the
stream.mp3 stream from the server although this is not really a good
solution - you won't have any control over the stream.

Just to double check: you are using http://serverip:9000/Handheld
yes?

if it is saying no access to gateway, then you are having network
issues, and changing to a different skin name at the end of the URL
isn't going to make a difference.

Can you access the IP of your router on the phone?

Also, are you sure it is using the wireless as it's data provider? if
it was still using the mobile network it wouldn't understand an IP
address internal to your network.

I'm curious how it would mess up your flac files. My library is also my
lossless backup of my CDs. All have embeded cover art.

If you are worried about changing the time stamps, don't. Any decent
tagger has the optioin to retain the original time stamps of files when
altering meta data. And embedding an image isn't going to change the
audio stream in any way, so you will be able to de-compress back to the
same PCM stream with or without the image in there. If you can't then
the decoder is broken.

Re: [slim] PDA controller solution

2009-07-16 Thread Ge0rge

Hi Sebastian,

Happy to say I discovered your app, installed it with ease on a HTC
Touch, and got it working without any real drama.

Only real feedback is that it would be nice to have a little more
guidance in the manual around some of the setup options, namely the
Music Server entry. Perhaps because I don't actually have a
SqueezeBox yet and am only using SoftSqeeze it was less obvious (or
perhaps it's just a lack of coffee) - but it took me a few attempts
before I figured out what was needed.
- I first tried the IP displayed in the browser for SqueezeCenter,
nope
- I then checked in SoftSqeeze for settings, it had the same IP, no
good
- Then I noticed the Login check box, so I tried entering my
SqueezeCenter login, no good.

Finally I realised I just needed the IP of PC it's all running on.

No big deal, wasted 10 minutes... but thought it my be worth a line in
the manual for anyone else trying to configure with SoftSqueeze first.

Oh and last thing - took me a couple of 'plays' to figure out how the 3
buttons for adding / inserting to the play-list, I've seen the recent
threads and once I got it figured out I think the buttons are good - but
your manual still only has the old 2 buttons listed.

Cheers!

The netbooks make a great remote control that also have internet

Now, if we can get DSBridge to work on an iPhone, we won't need full

Basically this set up does for me what the wave input plugin already

simply captures whatever is playing on the soundcard, so does the wave
input plugin. What about edcast for foobar? I can see a promising dialog

Re: [slim] Just bought a Squeezebox Classic. Some problems

Hi,

Yes, I checked that it was using ethernet. I did not do that for me
automagically, but that was no real problem. With the SB3 wireless and
my mac (running OSX10.5) wired, it's also quite responsive. So I think I
will keep it this way.
After using it some days now, I've found some other things for which I
would like some support:
-Is it possible to modify the rate of change for the volume control?
-When browsing artists-albums, for some artists the albums are
displayed like year - album and some are not. The directory
structure is the same and musicip mixer says that all tags are OK.
-Why does 'Haskell, Gordon' show up with artists starting with G while
'Dietrich, Marlene' is with the D artists?
-Why does 'Liszt, Frans' show up with the D artists also?

I can't answer your question about the volume control, but all of the
other issues look like tagging problems to me. You need to look at the
tags carefully with a good tagging program. Focus on the problem areas
you've mentioned and you'll probably find some inconsistencies. For
example, the Dietrich/Haskell problem is almost certainly because of bad
or simply missing ARTISTSORT tags. If your files are MP3 then you need
to look out for tracks that have both ID3v1 and ID3v2 tags, and possibly
APE tags. In general, eliminate all the ID3v1 tags and use only ID3v2
tags.

Unfortunately I don't know a good tagging program for the Mac, but I
expect someone will offer a suggestion.

As for 'the internals of the server', SC is written in Perl, so all the
source code is already there on your computer for you to explore at your
leisure. If you are fluent in Perl. But I'll bet anything that the
problem is your tags and not the SC internals.

What format are files: MP3, FLAC, AAC, ALAC, something else? That will
determine what type of tags they should have. I am fairly certain that
Max can write ID3 tags, but that's not what you want if the files are
FLAC.

If you haven't done so already, I highly recommend that you study the
Beginner's Guide in the wiki, especially the tagging guide:

Re: [slim] Just bought a Squeezebox Classic. Some problems

2009-07-16 Thread remcopoelstra

No, I'm not into perl, but I do know C, so perl shouldn't be that hard.

The files are mostly flac, especially the Frans Liszt CD.
I checked those files with easytag, which show only a Vorbis tag. Using
'head' and 'tail' on the file also only show a Vorbis tag, so I think
there really is no id3 tag. Both options also do not show something like
a sort tag which could place Liszt under the 'D'. So apart from
following the file's life inside SC, I do not see many options to see
what's going wrong here.

My library consists of over 2000 stinking, foul, polluted directories
containing not only pristine FLAC files, but cue sheets, ripping logs
and assorted album art scans. It really is a cesspool.

Do your flac files contain tags such as the artist and album name?
Embedded artwork is just another tag and, unless your covers are in the
100's of kB, it adds a negligible amount to the storage requirements for
an album.

No, not so weird.
The IP of your PC is 192.168.1.102 and that's of course the one to

127.0.0.1 is not really an IP address but the loopback address, i.e.
'this computer'. It always resolves to the PC it was issued on.

I will put a note on that into the manual.

[slim] OT: Asset UPnP server to XBMC

2009-07-16 Thread dsdreamer

This has nothing to do with the Squeezebox ecosystem, but I have been
trying various types of UPnP server and control-point/renderers.

I have a MediaTomb server running on my NAS (Buffalo link-station)
which scans the same flac library that I normally use for SC. I was only
able to get an album list when browsing from XBMC, no artist nor genre
views were obtainable and album art was completely missing. Playback of
albums worked as you would expect, however.

Last night I tried Asset UPnP server from dBPoweramp
http://www.dbpoweramp.com/asset-upnp-dlna.htm, once again using XBMC as
the renderer. Things were much better! I could browse by Album, Artist,
Genre and various other types of query and all my cover art was
correctly displayed. This combination made a solid audio client-sever
solution and XBMC made some nice eye-candy in the process.

All this doesn't have a huge amount of relevance, since I will not be
tempted away from my Squeezebox system which is working so well. But it
interested me to learn that the UPnP/DNLA approach to serving music
doesn't have to suck as badly as my previous experiences had caused me
to believe.
