Re: [slim] SB3 error: Can't open file for?
Just for sharing any help to any other users; If you place a Sony PS3 within 50cm of the SB3 it will cause the effect that sometimes it will just quit playing. This happen when the PS3 is powered-off. When powered on the SB3 will loose the complete connection. I just didn't expect the PS3 would produce electrical interference even when powered off. It can be concluded that the PS3 is very badly shielded. Did anyone really think Logitech just planned to buy Slim Devices and let them live their own life within Logitech without doing any changes ? In most cases an acquisition means that you want to take the good parts of the company you are buying and mix it with you own current or new strategy. This usually cause some disturbances during the period when the changes are applied, something we have seen during the last year(s). In some cases an acquisition ends up in a failure in other cases it ends up as a success, but in both cases there are usually a period of chaos before the new strategy/organization has settled. From the outside, you only see the negative things during this period because you usually don't know what the plans are. In some companies you don't see anything from the outside, in this case we do because Slim Devices used a very open development process where community was involved. Loosing founders after an acquisition isn't that unusual, actually I think this is very often the situation. People used to manage a small company can often feel too restricted in a big organization and they also often have a contract that they have to stay for a year or two after the acquisition before they are allowed to bail out, I obviously have no idea if this is the case here. It's sad that Sean/Dean left but to be honest I'm not that surprised it happened. Regarding the product announcement there are several factors to consider: - Pictures of the Touch was leaked long time before the official announcement - Real Touch hardware was leaked by some distributors before the official announcement If this hadn't happened I suspect it would had been announced a lot later than it was. Logitech was more or less forced to announce it when the hardware was leaked even though they at that time couldn't be 100% sure when the software was going to be finished. Delays in software projects is pretty common and in particular it is even pretty common in the history of Squeezebox development. On top of all this Logitech has done several re-organizations during the last year and made changes in the Squeezebox team, probably to try to merge the old Slim Devices with the correct business units within Logitech. With a situation like that it isn't easy to estimate a release date. IMHO, the biggest issue during all this is the communication with the users, especially people that pre-ordered the products, that part could really have been performed a lot better. However, we should also realize that it's in this area where Slim Devices and Logitech are VERY different. Slim Devices is used to have a very close relation with their early adopters while I suspect Logitech probably isn't. Also, there isn't many other pre-announced Logitech products which have had the same must have factor as the Radio, Battery and the Touch, so this situation might be pretty new to them. I'm not trying to say that Logitech management has done it perfectly, there are a lot of things that from an outside view could have been done a lot better. However, what I'm trying to say is that there might be reasons for the current situation which we aren't aware of. I'm 99% sure that Logitech management is aware of that the current situation isn't a good one and do what they can to fix it. Still, do we really think it helps to tell them they've done a bad job ? If we really want the Squeezebox products to survive and really want to help them making this happen, there might be better way to do this than only criticizing them. Don't get me wrong, constructive critique is good, but after posting that it might be better to try to help them making the products a success: - Help with beta testing and report bugs - Post or register enhancements requests regarding things you like to see in current (Radio) or future products (Touch). A lot of things have to be improved, but at the moment the top priority have to be to finish the Touch so Logitech can start to get some income from it. Releasing before it's ready with a lot of bugs is a bad idea, it will just make the situation even worse because then Logitech will have to handle all the support issues instead. -- erland Erland Isaksson 'My homepage' (http://erland.isaksson.info) (Install my plugins through Extension Downloader) (Developer of 'TrackStat, SQLPlayList,

Seeing as this is my thread, I guess I won't feel bad about us going off on a bit of a tangent. :) pippin;526882 Wrote: What exactly doesn't work? Like you said, playlists don't work currently with Rhapsody. They simply do not play. But there are also issues with playing albums too. I can't add individual tracks, except with the | mode active. Re: [slim] Woeful sync SB3 Boom - just me?
Ah, spoke too soon. Streaming in sync, transcoding alacflac, wired SB3 and wireless Boom. All rock solid *until* I skipped forward a couple of songs on the SB3. Then sync went out. I then switched the Now Playing info to just remaining time (was spectrum analyzer and Remaining time) and I think sync improved, but wasn't perfect (of course, the only tool I have available for this, my ears, is also not perfect!). [slim] Squeezebox Classic - Newbie
Hi, first post and not very computer knowledgeable. Currently I have Dell Desktop PC and an EeePC at home. The Dell Desktop PC is hooked up to the web via a cable modem which in turn feeds a Cisco wireless router model WRT310N. I use iTunes and currently I am streaming my music to the EeePC via the wireless router using iTunes Home Sharing feature. BTW, the Dell Desktop PC has a Chaintech AV710 sound card which I use to send files digitally using an optical cable to feed a Monarchy NM24 DAC which in turn feeds other headphone amps. As you can see when I work on the PC (3-4 hours weeknights and 8-10 hours on the weekends) I listen to my music via headphones. BTW I also sometimes use a Red Wine Audio Isabellina HPA which I connect via USB to feed either the internal headphone amp in the Isabellina HPA or a Red Wine Audio Signature 30.2 which amps an AKG K1000 ear-speaker. So although late in the game I have a chance to buy an used Squeezebox Classic for a good price and would like to hook it up to my system. I would like your opinion on the two following options. BTW, if you have an alternative or third option I would appreciate you sharing it. 1. I could hook up the SB Classic to one of the Ethernet ports on the Cisco wireless router and connect it to my Dell Desktop PC. This would allow me to listen to the many radio stations which I have read are available via the SB Classic. For my remote EeePC I can then continue using the wireless router to stream the music. However this does not solve the problem w/ my headphone nightstand rig, for which I could either get a 2nd SB Classic to receive the music and then either feed the music to the amp via the RCA outs or send the digital files to a second DAC by the headphone stand rig. OR 2. I could place the SB Classic on the headphone nightstand rig and then stream music wireless's back to the Dell Desktop PC. The files would then be sent via the optical cable to the Monarchy NM24 DAC as I currently do w/ the iTunes files. So, would the 2nd option work? I am pretty sure the 1st option would work but I would need two SB Classics and thus more money. Thanks for your patience. -- mrarroyo mrarroyo's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=37071 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=76423 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Re: [slim] Squeezebox Classic - Newbie
I'm confused as to what you're hoping to achieve. TBH, streaming radio is a 'nice to have' feature of the SB3, but not it's main purpose which is to stream music from your collection on the music server and do away with any reliance on a PC sound-card connected to DAC/Amp. If you really just want to listen to streamed radio with your current rig, just get a s/w client like Winamp installed the Dell Desktop PC. If you're already a big user of iTunes and like it, then you may find an Apple Outlook Express is more to your liking and fits in to your current set-up. -- amcluesent amcluesent's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10286 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=76423 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

1. Stream music to my nightstand rig using the SB Classic as a receiver. OK, so install Squeezebox Server on the Dell Desktop PC and have it index your files. Install the Squeezebox Classic on the network (wired or wi-fi) and hook it's electrical digital output to the spare input on the Monarchy NM24 DAC. That way you can have streamed music and radio fed into the DAC. 2. Listen to the radio stations available via the SB Classic both at the nighstand rig as well as the Dell Desktop PC. So I'd install the SqueezePlay program onto the Dell Desktop, which is a s/w emulator of a player, so you'll be able to access all the same radio stations and play them on the PC soundcard. -- amcluesent amcluesent's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=10286 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=76423 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Put the SB Classic by the nightstand. On your computer, install SqueezePlay (essentially a software version of the player). You can feed them both by connecting to either mysqueezebox.com (if you don't care about playing any of your own music files) or squeezeboxserver if you want to play your own files as well.
