Re: [slim] Just 5 years and a bit less than 2 month Logitech has acquired Slim Devices
I came on board about a year or so before logictech took over. For me the SB3 was a eye opening event, as I had suffered with much more inferior products. The only issuse I have ever had is with the software, and it may have been as simple as just recommending low and high point comp to run it. I have used 4 different comp as my servers from a PIII 700 hz w/512 mem, Laptop 1.2Ghz P4 w/1gig Ram, P4, P4 1.2Ghz w/750 ram and now P4 3ghz W/2gig Ram. The last system is running the LMS the best ever, but is overkill according to what is able to run the LMS. Due to the clunky GUI of the past SBS it made having a large collection a nightmare and creating playlists time comsuming. I had lesser poducts that were compatible with J.River/Jukebox and MSMP right out the box. I don't recommend SB's to the light hearted or computer novice, for you will need above average skills to handle the small quirks that come up with network issues, playback issues and my current problem that the LMS shuts off on its own leaving me with blank SB's, But when its working its one of the most enjoyable times of my day/week. -- Recoveryone Pioneer Elite Logictech/Slim Device Transporter wirelessly connected Pioneer Elite VSX-81TX Pioneer BDP 320 2nd SqueezeBox 3 Wirelessly connected (up Stairs) Pioneer VSX 520K Pioneer BDP 120 3rd SqueezeBox 3 Wirelessly connected (MediaRoom) Pioneer VSX 510 Server running on (In garage) P4 3.0 GHz 2 gig ram Windows XP (Sp3) Linksys NIC wireless card w/HG anatana/speed boost 350 Xternal gigHD W/1.5 TB backup Verizon 54g wireless router w/HG antana Recoveryone's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9205 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=92232 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

The reason it's not already the case is mainly because there are still some employees with the spirits from Slim Devices fighting for the products. I believe several of the employees which have fought for the products was actually hired thanks to the acquisition which allowed them to increase the size of the Squeezebox team. However, it's also important to realize that we aren't sure Slim Devices would have survived the increased development costs during Radio, Touch, Duet without the help of the economical strength from Logitech. Slim Devices might have been bankrupt if they hadn't been acquired by Logitech. One of the main reasons Radio, and possibly Touch, is selling pretty good is probably because Logitech has succeeded to put them on the shelves on the local stores all over the world, something that would have been very hard for Slim Devices to do by themselves. It's easy to say "I told you so..." but you also have to think about what the alternative would have been, it could have been a lot worse than what we have today. -- erland Erland Isaksson ('My homepage' (http://erland.isaksson.info)) (Developer of 'many plugins/applets (both free and commercial)' (http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/User:Erland). The Duet was purchased to be pretty much the centre of my musical universe at home (300GB library, 3+ tracks), along with Booms in bedroom & kitchen. And it pretty much still is - I love it. Most of my music Lame VBR preset extreme encoded (average bitrate 256) mp3, so I probably wouldn't be regarded as an "audiophile" - but it all sounds great to me through my hifi & big Cerwin-Vega AT-60s ! Duet has been very reliable, although probably not as solid as the Booms (this may be something to with the fact my Booms are always on or in standyby whereas the Duet is shutdown & unplugged every night. Tried it last night, yeah, you can use the mouse button to drag menus, but it is clunky. I'll stick to search for now. Still great to have that interface on my TV! Sidenote: Rhapsody Channels don't let you skip song on the Logitech controller app. This isn't expected behavior.. -- FredFredrickson Get your news and stock updates right here: 'Squeezebox Updates' (http://sb.cnhpa.com)! I imagine the reason is that SBS 7.6.2 doesn't support MOG. If you want to use MOG without connecting to mysb.com then you have to upgrade your local server to LMS 7.7.x, which is the first version with MOG support. In short, if you want the new features (eg, MOG), then you need to run the new software. -- aubuti aubuti's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=2074 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=92154 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Unless I'm missing something, it should be easy to do single handed. Holding down the button with you right thumb, you should easily be able to swipe with a finger. Maybe it's because I use a laptop so much and I'm used to doing drag-n-drop with a touch pad a lot. Swiping is emulated by holding the "mouse button" (button below touch-pad, not d-pad!) and moving the mouse. But it's awkward, and can hardly be done single-handed. As the Revue comes with a full keyboard, it's probably easiest to just rely on search instead of browsing. Just hit the Search key on the keyboard to get to the search mask. Unfortunately play/pause key mappings seem to have changed in a later state, thus the app's key mapping doesn't work for those two. Volume, fwd/rwd, Search, Back and Menu (jump to the app's home menu) should be fine. -- Michael ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

When it comes to looks, SB3 is the champion of the Squeezeboxen so far. I hope a next generation Touch will arrive, looking more like the SB3. With some aluminium on front, a glass-like screen much broader than 4:3 format, and with the option of simple, clean, large, scrolling text for the "now playing" info. [slim] Transfer audio from one player to another
Is there a way to transfer what I'm playing on my livingroom controller to the one in the study, then be able to turn the livingroom controller off and still have the audio playing in the study. At the moment if I sync the two, when I stop the livingroom controller it stops the study.
