nothing seems to fix things eventually. I'll remember that next time
and leave it all well alone.

Re: [slim] BBC Completely Unavailable

2009-06-25 Thread Declan Moriarty

KMorgan,

grepped means using the grep UNIX command to find text in a file.
dbuk is using a LINUX box to run SqueezeCenter and is unable to resolve
www.bbc.co.uk? This is very odd. Editing BBC.pm while solving the
imediate problem may cause new problems in the future if the normal BBC
website becomes available and the domanin name without the www may fail
in the future? I don't know if this will happen, but not being able to
reslove the normal BBC website is a BIG problem in itself. I haven't
had any problems accessing BBC radio using Alien BBC or BBC iPlayer
plugins. They seem to be much better since the upgrade to 7.3.3.

Re: [slim] BBC Completely Unavailable

2009-06-25 Thread bpa

There is a strange solution and it looks like it relates to your ISP and
connectivity.

Rather than ping - nslookup is better as it gives more info.

IT would be usefulto try the nslookupo on your PC - on my (non UK) PC I
get the following.

The name www.bbc.co.uk resolved to www.bbc.net.uk

Code:

  nslookup www.bbc.co.uk
  Server: 192.168.1.254
  Address:192.168.1.254#53

  Non-authoritative answer:
  www.bbc.co.uk canonical name = www.bbc.net.uk.
  Name: www.bbc.net.uk
  Address: 212.58.253.68

Whereas bbc.co.uk resolves just to bbc.co.uk - a different IP address.

Code:

   nslookup bbc.co.uk
  Server: 192.168.1.254
  Address:192.168.1.254#53

  Non-authoritative answer:
  Name: bbc.co.uk
  Address: 212.58.254.252

Re: [slim] BBC Completely Unavailable

2009-06-23 Thread dbuk

Hi,

I had the same problem with iPlayer running on vortexbox (FC11). I
tried pinging www.bbc.co.uk and found it couldn't be resolved. bbc.co.uk
could be found.

I then grepped the iPlayer plugin directory for www.bbc.co.uk, found
the offending url and removed the preceeding www. (sorry don't have
access to the server so can't name the exact file, think it's *BBC*.pm)

So far Radio 2 live and listen again seem to working well

Cheers

Alien BBC, working in all respects.
BBC iPlayer not working at all.
Internet Radio Local on SC or SN works for some radio channels but

As of today,
Alien BBC, working.
BBC iPlayer, working for live stations. Not working on any listen gain
progs (iPlayer failed to direct stream).
Internet Radio Local, working.

Suppose I'll just have to wait a bit longer, then everything will work

I think RT David doesn't realise that you are in the UK.

AlienBBC fetches URLs direct from web site so they are dynamic and up
to date. This might affect the 2nd RTSP URL I suggested but not your
general problem.

The opening of WMA stream to non-UK users should not alter the fact
that you are in the UK and WMA streams do not work - not even from your
PC.

I forgot to ask earlier - have you ever got BBC radio playing through
your SB ? or is this a new installation ?

Up until I got back home on Fri after a few days away all was working
perfectly. I could get BBC Radio2 through Local, or iPlayer. I had
absolutely no issues with live streams or listen-again. Now I get
nothing from the main BBC stations either through SC or SN.

The odd thing is that using Internet Radio Local I can get other
streams to play. Some of these are WMA, some are RTSP (is that right?).
What I really don't understand is why I can't get radio streams from
the BBC via the iPlayer web site either. It gets stuck on Connecting
to Media.

There is obviously something up external to my setup at home. Don't
know if this is ISP or BBC. What really surprises me is that I seem to
be alone. I was expecting some comfort from others with the same
problem.

Ah well GTG, I'll check in again tomorrow.

Re: [slim] BBC Completely Unavailable

The BBC has been making some changes to their streaming servers so if
you were deep linking to the real audio streams instead of using their
dynamic playlist you probably missed the transition to the new stream
servers.

However, as of today the BBC has windows media streams available to
international users so you should be able to play BBC Radio 1-4 live
streams via the Internet Radio menu without the need for any plugins.

You could try the following as a test. It needs to be run form a
command prompt window and in the AlienBBC plugin Bin directory which has
mplayer.exe. Assuming your PC has speakers.

This plays BBC Radio 2 - RealAudio stream.
mplayer -v -playlist http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/realmedia/fmg2.ram

The -v gives additional setup info in case they don't work.

You could try the following URLs in the SC Tune-in box.
rtsp://rmlive.bbc.co.uk/bbc-rbs/rmlive/farm/live24/bbc_ami/radio2/radio2_nb_int_live.ra
rtsp://rmlive.bbc.co.uk/bbc-rbs/rmlive/farm/live24/bbc_ami/radio2/radio2_nb_live.ra

Tried those two URLs in the Tune-in box. The first connects and plays,
the second displays error connecting to URL.. on my SBC.

Was going to try the CMD window method you mentioned but spookily I
can't find mplayer.exe anywhere on the computer. Could this be the
cause of my problem? If it is indeed missing, I don't know where it

Ignore the mplayer test since one of the tune-in worked.

The first rtsp URL is for international (i.e. non UK listeners). I
think the second URL is for UK listeners - however I am not certain.

If AlienBBC/Live BBC Streams/Radio 2 menu doesn't play and the RTSP URL
plays - then it could be an SC problem with DNS as the Tune-in bypasses
any SC processing and passes URL straight to mplayer.
