Yes I meant, Receiver comes without visual display. If the "remote" you're talking about, is the so-called Controller, and you get both, Receiver and Controller ( what's called Duet) you're all done to set it up with your LMS and your network. Otherwise take @bpa s comment as a hint that setting up the Receiver without a Controller needs some more technical approach. karlek's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=64321 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=107740 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

Also without the controller - if you're not technical the receiver can be a bit difficult to setup - normally using the Net::UDAP tool http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?57861-Net-UDAP-SqueezeBox-Receiver-configuration-tool bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=107740 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

My PC is already running LMS for my SBT and the house is all Cat5 cable or wifi. If I get the Duet remote and receiver can I then just phono output to his amp and speakers ? Not sure what you mean by receiver not having output? I assume you mean no visual display like the touch or radio. Re: [slim] Buying a new music player
The Receiver (player) can indeed run Spotty, network music and internet radio as the Radio can. Main differences are: You'll need loudspeakers and an Interface like the Controller (2nd part of the Duet), a smartphone app or a PC where you can the LMS remote via browser, as the Receiver itself comes without any output capability. karlek's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=64321 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=107740 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Buying a new music player
Would the Duet with remote work in this situation? The duets seem cheaper on eBay than the radio or boom. Do they all have some form of output? Can they all run Spotty, play network music and internet radio? captcaveman's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=67159 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=107740 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Buying a new music player
In terms of immediate simplicity and low cost, if an Android phone is in the works, using that device as a player with line out to the stereo is an option. I use SB Player in combination with Squeeze Ctrl, from the same developer. Squeeze Ctrl is my controller of choice, use it for all my devices. For direct listening from the mobile, you choose SB Player as the player instead of the other devices on the network (assuming the mobile has access to the wifi network). I use it with headphones all the time, as well as occasionally with a small amped speaker. With high-draw headphones it can sometimes be a problem getting loud enough, although this is not an issue for the vast majority of headphones, but with the stereo it won't be an issue. The downside is that the phone is tethered, unless you set up a bluetooth receiver with the stereo. One advantage would be that he could use the mobile with earbuds or headphones, sparing you the volume of whatever he's listening to in his room. R. Re: [slim] Buying a new music player
I think the main issue with a "pre-owned" SB Boom is not screen fading, this happens too on any model equipped with a VFD screen. The most important problem is that under heavy continued use, boomers may split their foam surrounds and you have to replace them. Play something loud and you would hear if there is a problem. If you want to refurbish a defective Boom, it looks like 'user JoeMuc2009 is the man' (http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?82497-Is-Anyone-Fixing-Booms=885916=1#post885916). I make no representation on what he would do, but he has gathered and published a quite a sum of knowledge on repairing SBs. The price of the Avy (android 4.4) can vary a lot as the seller seems to run special offers every so often. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Zettaly-Portable-Bluetooth-Speaker-Internet/dp/B00WR3W2TA/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics=UTF8=1501069932=1-1=zettaly+avy I think this is the followup to Avy - looks like similar hardware but with an upgrade (e.g. Wifi n Android 5.0). https://www.amazon.co.uk/Orbsmart-Internetradio-Digitalradio-Bluetooth-Stereo-Speaker/dp/B01279Y57A/ref=sr_1_sc_1?s=electronics=UTF8=1501070072=1-1-spell=soundpod To work with LMS - they need Apps for control and/or a player. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=107740 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss

You can run SqueezePlayOS from a USB Stick attached to the Joggler or reflash it with the full SqueezePlayOS - details here https://birdslikewires.uk/squeezeplay As to longevity. I have one that has been running for 5+ years with only an occasional reboot required if it freezes (couple of times per year) The sound quality isn't great but you indicated that wasn't the primary issue. Note If the sound quality isn't good enough you can use a Joggler as a controller only in conjunction with say a RaspberryPi PS That isn't a "Full" list.
