One of them is used 100% of the time with SlimServer. (That audio system has a separate tuner that I use when I want radio.) My other SB3 is used about 50/50 SlimServer and SqueezeNetwork. That's not to say that I don't listen to a lot of internet radio too, but I do that mostly through SS, not SqueezeNetwork. Before our squeezeboxes arrived (today!), I have been ripping internet radio stations for years, and playing them back because the FM stations mostly play crap chart music that we have no interest in... So one of the big selling points for us is the ability to use shoutcast streams, pandora last.fm in addition to our CD soon to be totally FLAC collection. In fact improvement in syncing of stream playback would be a major plus for me. And I'd love to have last.fm synced playback, which the plugin doesnt support yet. At first, I listened 100% to SS. When the Rhapsody service became better integrated, I began to listen almost exclusively to SN. Now my listening is pretty well balanced between the two. Both sides of the equation are essential to my listening experience. For most CD level listening I use the Transporter for convenience. For my most serious listening, I use either high rez digital (SACD and a little DVD-Audio) or high-end analog. The latter when I have the time and am seriously listening to music. Squeeze network, a bit on Pandora and internet radio but let's face it, the sound quality sucks. Anyway: I probably spend about 80% of the time listening to my own music from a NAS drive. Typically I buy a few new CDs at a time, then listen to them over and over until I'm fed up, then go out and buy some more. So, I use the BrowseNew Music feature all the time. If I fancy a change, often I'll use random song mix instead - it breaks up the monotony and can help me rediscover music I forgot I had - so it sounds 'new' in some sense too. The other 20% of the time it's a Shoutcast station. I keep its URL on one of my favourites so it's always easy to tune in to. However, a few weeks ago its URL changed, so my favourite stopped working - and I assumed the station was off the air. It wasn't until I browsed the list of available stations to find it again that I realised what had happened. So, it would be nice if the Squeezebox could store the name of the station rather than just the URL, so it would have a chance of retaining the link even if the server moves? I use AlienBBC and Last.FM a fair bit, but that's via SS. I'd certainly give Rhapsody a go if it became available in the UK. I did use it for the 90 days Pandora trial. About 95% useing SlimServer, the rest using Squeezenetwork. I do eventually intend setting up a SB3 at my parents with all my music on mp3tunes through squeezenetwork, but that has to wait for funds. One is plugged into my main listening rig, the other is in my gym (that would be my garage). I run SlimServer off a ReadyNAS. Since my listening on the main stereo is limited to weekends, I shut the NAS down Sunday night through Friday evening. Thus when I'm in the garage I'm often listening to SqueezeNetwork. I guess 75 SS, 25 SN. That would change if I start exercising more! I have a QNAP on order, so things might change when I have that (if it ever arrives). d) My laptop and wireless access point don't get along too well, which interrupts the music more often than I'd like. Problems here seem to be WPA re-authentication and Zyxel 660HW AP and Intel 2200BG chip (FSC laptop) not playing together properly. I hope this survey isn't a case-builder for pulling Squeezenetwork! I spend probably 75% of my time on Slimserver, but spend the other 25% on SqueezeNetwork. I find I use SqueezeNetwork when friends are over to impress, but plan to use it more for my baby's room for the natural sounds and kids albums I access via Rhapsody. It should be said that the only reason I am a paying subscriber to Rhapsody, Pandora, and Live365 is because of my Squeezebox's. Do not stop SqueezeNetwork; that would be a major blow to the product! I use Rhapsody a ton and for that the Squeezenetwork implementation is undoubtedly superior to the UPnP setup: mainly because a) it doesn't require that you go to your PC to start Rhapsody and b) it's able to display all album and artist info -- an area in which the UPnP implementation is still shockingly limited. On the other hand, I find SS invaluable for AlienBBC (NPR!), high-quality local music, the superdatetime plugin (which I use mainly for weather info), powering my SB1s (which can't use SN), the ability to view and edit the now playing playlist via the web interface, and the better performance and reliability provided by running from the local server. So I do a lot of switching back and forth. Plenty of internet radio use, but it's typically through the most-awesome PublicRadioFan.com plugin. I had one awesome use for SN a couple years ago. My daughter, then 1 year old, was waking up every night screaming. I'd take her out to the living room, connect to SN-Natural Sounds-Hard Rain and crank that puppy up. It was the only thing that would put her back to sleep, and I'd run it all night and it never cut out. Pretty amazing sound too, especially when the sound was coming from in-ceiling speakers, which made it sound like it was really raining. Typically what I will do now is listen to R.P. - I like listening to things I have never heard before. If I find a CD I really like from that artist I will purchase it, convert it to FLAC, and then listen to it uncompressed via Slimserver! Then I go back to Radio Paradise and listen / learn some more. Thinking about it, we could use AlienBBC for both of those, but tend to use SN. The internet features are important, and I love the variety, but they are still a small amount of total listening. I do listen to podcasts every night, but have migrated to storing the ones I like on the hard drive and playing them locally rather than connecting thru the net.
