Re: [slim] Let's here some suggestions for SlimServer 7
I like a lot about SC7, but, I had to revert back to 6.5 because of the lack of ability to play shorten files. Yes, I do know the advantages of flac and I do convert shn to flac as time permits. This being said, the one of the things I love about the Transporter is the ease of listening to music, (Isn't this the main reason to own this wonderful device) I have several hundred gigs of shows to convert from the shn format. Taking time out to convert sure does take away some of that big easy. I would love to have the ability to play shn files for a bit longer with SC7. -- Lectric Larry Lectric Larry's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12601 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=26874 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss
Re: [slim] Let's here some suggestions for SlimServer 7
There a couple things I'd like to see slimserver7 -RhapsodyDirect support. Browse, search, and play from the Rhapsody Music service natively. This will enable rhapsody streams to be pushed to all squeezeboxes in the network. :-) - NetRemote/mediaBridge support, so slimserver can display tracks, album art, rhapsody search, etc on a NetRemote enable PocketPC. These two things together make Slim the better option for whole house rhapsody service than Sonos, since it would be automatable, controllable, and customizable. -Jerimiah -- jerimiah797 jerimiah797's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=14973 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=26874 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

This might already be possible with Erland's TrackStat plugin. You can rate the FLAC files high and mp3 files low. It then allows you to browse by rating. What I don't know is if you can set it up to show lower rated versions if nothing higher rated is found with the same title/artist/album info. My own setup, I have a music folder with FLAC and MP3. Anything I have in FLAC is duplicated to mp3 using flac2mp3 and stored in a folder outside of the music tree. If any mp3 albums in the music tree eventually become available as FLAC, I erase the mp3 files in the music tree and let flac2mp3 create new mp3 files outside of the tree. it's nearly automated and thanks to the local Future Shop's lingering clearance sales, I'm using it a lot. -kdf ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

I am interested in following features: - manage several librariesthe one in my portable powerbook when I travel with my SB2 and the very large library in an external disk when I am at home. - have a more decent User Interface. The hundreds of options are not appropriate for most of us...consider to have 3 levels in the user interface basic-intermediate-expert. All I want is to listen to music/radios/Podcasts, and to rescan the library from time to time when I add a CD. - when developping the server software, keep in mind that the SBs are used by...users and customers who wish to listen to radios and music, and not play the software engineer for hours in the evening. Sometimes I have not be able to use my SB2 for weeks because of bugs...not acceptable for an appliance costing many hundreds of Euros. - consider to have a more international range of radios, and not only an american vision of radio broadcasts. What about German/French/Dutch/Italian radios (I speak all these languages and a few more). I have completely de-activated all the radio services suggested in the server. - better response time. On my computers it may take several seconds between an action on the remote and the actual change on the display (eg browse folders to find an album). Or is this due to my configuration? I don't know, but it was slow even before I started to feed ITunes with my many CDs. -- patrickw59 Patrick Squeezebox 2, Slimserver 6.5.2 or higher WiFi connection to IMAC-G5, OS X.4.9 or higher ADSL connection 7 Mbps. 4 songs from my CD collection and streaming lots of European radio stations. ...at least when the device works. patrickw59's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3747 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=26874 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

I'd like to suggest some other ways that one might like to manage a playlist. I'd like to be able to sort a playlist by say artist, or genre, or album. For example, suppose I decide I in fact don't want to hear Artist X afterall -- it might be difficult to even find all of the relevant tracks in the playlist, much less delete them. Being able to sort by artist would allow you to delete them quickly. I'd suggest one could go further with this idea. The notion of browsing by a single tag and only returning lists containing one piece of information (artist, album, or track title) is too restrictive. It is more powerful to display several tags, such as artist, album, track, genre, and allow the user to filter the set by any tag, and to sort the results by any tag, much the way iTunes and most other media players work. Granted this might be slow in a browser. Also, this style of interface is completely unsuited to the squeezebox+remote, and so you would be breaking any similarity in the way you control the server via the web interface and the way you do it from the remote. This might turn off new users. -Steve -- wnshall wnshall's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=5886 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=26874 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

I would like to see integrated karaoke (i.e. song lyrics) for both user-own content as well as Rhapsody content. I do understand that Rhapsody would have to update their system to make that information available -- it is already available through their client -- but please encourage them to do so. -- Ken_F Ken_F's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=12096 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=26874 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Personally I really wish there was a away to view/control slimserver from inside other apps. For example, I would pay for a plugin for XP MCE2005(or Media Portal) that lets me browse/search/view/play my music IN the media center, but is really controlling my slimserver/squeezebox. -- Fezz Fezz's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=8172 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=26874 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Michael Michael, you are totally right, and if I knew how or could make the time time learn how, I most certainly would, this is the only division between having ALL of my media controlled through one GUI. I did recently get a Logitech Harmony remote and I do feel one step closer to my gaol; I can control all of my media through one remote now! Funny you mention Jriver MC, I came across that in my quest for a Slimserver media center plugin, unfortunately Jriver MC seems a little lacking in some areas, mainly controlling my cable boxes. -- Fezz Fezz's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=8172 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=26874 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

That might be do-able as a plugin, but it's only a few key presses on the remote in the current incarnation of slimserver. From the point where you hear that random track, (assuming you have Now Playing showing on the SB): 1. press right arrow once (takes you to song Title) 2. press down arrow once (takes you to Artist) 3. press down arrow again (takes you to Album) 4. press-and-hold the + button, and it inserts all the tracks on the album to play next, after which it resumes the random playlist. Granted, four button presses isn't the same as a toggle, but maybe it will see you through until someone writes the code for a toggle. You could even queue _all_ albums as you do in WinAmp, and toggle between album/song shuffle and straight. But with larger lists this is a rather slow process in SlimServer. -- Michael - http://www.herger.net/SlimCD - your SlimServer on a CD http://www.herger.net/slim - AlbumReview, Biography, MusicInfoSCR ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

I have a huge music library - a lot of which i don't listen too much if ever. I'd like a system in the slimserver for rating songs you like say on a scale of 1-4 or something so that if you play an album or a particular genre it can miss out ones you don't like and play ones you do first. Ideally this would be done by a button press on the SB remote. I think this will be increasingly important as people start having huge music libraries. 1 - I don't like it - never play 2 - not that keen - play last 3 - indifferent 4 - I love it - play first I guess this would be kept in the database but I'd like to have this tagged to files somehow as well - maybe as an option for some users. Re: [slim] Let's here some suggestions for SlimServer 7
This may be something for a plugin, but let me describe my ideal media player, which I was able to do with winamp.. sans the nice display of the SB3. Music is arranged in albums, and the albums are in order one after the other so that when one album finishes the next starts, this is a single flat playlist. Then I can switch between random and consecutive playback of tracks. So if I hear a song that I like I can just toggle out of random playback to hear the rest of songs in that album, and later I can click toggle random again to switch back to a radio style of random playback. -- realityloop realityloop's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=11508 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=26874 ___ discuss mailing list discuss@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/discuss

Before I bought a SB, I had mpd (music player daemon) installed on a linux box with a soundcard. I controlled it with a web front end called phpMp, which had a clickable progress bar, which enabled you to go to any point in the track that was playing. For a screenshot see http://www.musicpd.org/images/phpMp_20030925_7.jpg I'd love to be able to do this with Slimserver. I know about the Song Scanner plugin, and it works really well, but I'd prefer to use Slimserver for this. Re: [slim] Let's here some suggestions for SlimServer 7
For me, parental controls are needed. What with so many tracks containing swearing I'd like a better way of managing what can get played at certain times. As a work around I've tagged albums and tracks I know are dodgy with NotForKids so if I want to play random music I just exclude this genre. Dirty but works, but means I lose the genre tag. Ideally the DB should be able to flag files as adult content and then set a time when these can be played without some sort of PIN override. The difficult part is knowing which files to tag. Is there an online reference telling you what albums contain swearing? Since 6.5 is pretty much in the bag, what do you want in SlimServer 7? Forget about updating SlimServer, top of my wishlist is for the forum bug that causes incorrect threading of mail messages to be fixed. I just got totally confused reading a bunch of posts in reply to the wrong message. - multiple music libraries - individual user customization Multiple music libraries is the biggie for me too, alongside User Personas. A music library would contain a list of configurable music folders to scan (ie. rather than using shortcuts), with settings to define when/what type of scan to perform on each configured folder. Music libraries could be used to represent specific users music, or for other needs. Eg. Phil's Music, Alex's Music, Live Concerts, Squeeze Network could be different music libraries. I'd like to be able to set up several user accounts, with an easy mechanism to switch between them. Each account would have different settings, eg. slimscrobbler/LastFM user, Live365 user, screensaver, etc. Each account could select a music library to use.
