Another option is to build it with the SOtM USB PCI card and then
connect it directly to a USB DAC. The card is a noise/electricity
regulated alternative to standard noisy USB.

Re: [slim] Beta: SqueezeConfig - UDAP Config tool for Android

2011-12-18 Thread flattermann

bundee1;677180 Wrote:
Hello I got this to work yesterday. My sb3 is connected via a wireless
bridge. After using your program yesterday the server found the player
and I got it to work but for some reason my SB3 defaults back to a
wireless connection when the player is discovered via SqueezeConfig.
This morning I didnt check the settings before reconnecting with your
app and set it as wireless. Now squeezeconfig cant find the player even
 though its plugged in.

 Any suggestions?

First, some clarifications:

Your SB3 is connected via LAN (wired) to a wireless bridge.
The bridge is a separate device, i.e. you do not use the bridge feature
of the SB3, right?

SqueezeConfig will never change the settings on its own.
If you select a player in SqueezeConfig, it will ask you if it should
use the Wifi values of your phone. If you select NO, you will see the
unaltered settings of your SB3. (At least, that's the expected
behaviour. If it behaves differently, it's a bug.)

Have you tried a factory reset of the SB3?
The SB3 can only be found by SqueezeConfig if it is in Setup mode, e.g.
after a factory reset.
Press-Hold the + button on the SB3 remote while plugging in the power
cable.
This should factory reset the SB3 and it should be found by
SqueezeConfig (the SB3 needs to be connected via LAN cable in this
case!).

But why exactly do you need to re-configure your SB3 every day?
Does it lose its connection to the server?

If yes:
At which point does it lose the connection?
After a server restart?

You may want to try to set a static IP for the SB3 (using
SqueezeConfig). This often helps a lot.

BTW: If the SB3 loses its connection to the server after a server
restart, it's often enough to *restart* the SB3 to reconnect.
In SqueezeConfig, you can long-press on a player and select Reset.
This will restart the SB3, but keep the current values.

If you are using SqueezeCommander, you can also reconnect an
unconnected SB3 from within SqueezeCommander, i.e. you do not need to
use SqueezeConfig in this case.
SqueezeConfig is only needed for the initial setup.

Re: [slim] Best android hardware for Squeezebox remote ?

2011-12-18 Thread arztde

Erland, i understand you like to use and develope for new hardware.

I personaly liketo keep you thinking in something: not anyone have the
money and like to use and buy new hardware just to use as a remote.

A lot of users have old mobile phones and when they get a new their
question appear, is what they do with the old one.

My personal story was: I did lost my old phone once and at same time my
Car navigation system was stolen.
I got a HTC touch diamond but for this phone at this time did not exist
any squeeze remote. Locuth a C++ developer did not have any squeezebox
hardware and not any smartphone but he was loving programming just for
fun.

He did develope a remote just for fun without any possibility to test
it in real live. But it was amazing: his alpha remote was at this time
working and was one of the best i ever saw.
I did not have any squeezebox hardware at this time and i bought a used
Duet and without to see it, i did send it directly to Locuth that he did
have more ease to develope his slimcontrol for a beta release. And i
thought it is a good idea to send him also my new HTC Diamond for
optimize Slimcontrol in the next beta to my phone.
After 3 months i got my phone back and i did bought me in this time a
SB3 classic so i let Locuth the Duet for further developement.
Slimcontrol is still for me one of the best remote solutions because it
do not all but is absolute optimised for usability and to be fast.

Now the next point:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=244

There exist a more than 10 years old mobile the Blue Angel and was
possible to get such a phone for just 20 Euros. It is allways sold
including a cradle and so is a optimal solution for a remote. And there
are plans to transfer this old hardware to FROYO.

There exist another HTC old Win Mobile phone with very good
instructions how to flash it with Android (HTC Kaiser):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=376

I did bought a HTC Kaiser last week in Ebay for just 15 Euros and
flashed it to Android 3.2
Shure its not the fast one but for to use it as Squeezebox or XBMC or
VDR remote its a very good and fast enough solution.
Just investment of 15 Euros for a good remote and so i have now in each
room such remote.

New Windows mobille you can not use C++ for developement as far i
know.
My idea in yours posting is now somehow to contact locuth or if you
like the idea drop me a private message and i contact you with Locuth.

What i did found allways in yours plugins, that they need a lot of
hardware resources and because i use low powered hardware for NAS or PC
they are good but its not a good idea to run your Plugins for such a
hardware.

Maybee you can do a very best remote with training to programm for low
powered hardware. ITS NOT A ATTACK against you, please do not
understand me wrong. I am not a programmer, but i see only all the
programming you do needs powered hardware. Maybee this can be improved
if you are pressed to do something for old hardware with another style
of programming with same results. HTC desire is again something with
high power hardware. So i keep just the topic: For me a flashed HTC
Kaiser is the best Android for the moment because i do not have
another. And my measure is a remote should be in this way programmed
that this phone works good together.
I did test now some Android remote solutions now but no Application run
from usability point like Slimcontrol. Maybee after talk with Locuth you
share some code and go on with him together to make such a control
solution

If you want better logs you should use the web-UI settings advance

And crank up the log levels for the scanner and the artwork handling .

Also check that no rouge lms/sbs process is till running, some crashes
can make the scanner run by itself so worth checking with the task

[slim] Display Issue, slow dimming after power on

2011-12-18 Thread ToddSTS

Hey guys,

So after resurrecting my precious Redwine Modded SB3 a few months ago
using a reclaimed daughterboard from Ebay, now when I turn on the
device the display isn't as bright at the beginning as it should be and
then the longer you leave it on the dimmer it gets until you can't see
it in a dark room. The audio/playback still works, but occasionally has
issues restarting after a pause (white noise plays instead). Has anyone
run into this before? I'm thinking maybe a capacitor in the power
circuit of the display is bad or something. I've done a factory and
xilinx reset, the issue still persists. Any tips would be appreciated.

I posted this originally in the DIY forum, but no one seemed to know.
So I'm asking here for the wider audience.

Thanks,

Todd

I dont have the original remote, it broke. Is there another way to reset
 the sb3?

No, IMHO you need a remote to reset the SB3.

But you could try another remote.

If I remember correctly, JVC remotes (and maybe others) should be
compatible.

But what does the SB3 do if you restart it? (i.e. power cycling)

What's shown on the display?

Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] Orange Squeeze 1.0 for Android Released

Cool! I think the 'bread crumbs' up top areawesome :-)

Question: When i tap an album I get a screen with 'Play All' but no
track list under that to use if I want to select a specific song.
 Should there be?

I'd like to be able to customize, or at least re-order the main menu.

When there is no cover art could you change the 'X' to a music note or
something by chance? I've got A LOT of live music with no cover art...

Glad I bought it to help the cause, keep up the great work.

fphredd, thanks for the feedback!

When you tap an album and see the play all menu, you should indeed see
the list of tracks for the album. What can you tell me about your
album structure? Is there anything unique about it? What version of
the Logitech software are you running? What device and OS version do
you have?

You should be able to reorder the main menu as you like -- simply drag
the icon on the left. More customization options will be on the way
soon.

We'll definitely add an option to customize the lack of cover art. The
goal of the orange X was to let you know that you're missing art but of
course there are situations where that's just the way it needs to be.
I've got a few things in the works that might help you out, but the
worst case is that you will be able to choose an image from your phone
storage.

Keep the feedback coming, we're definitely listening.

Ben

Re: [slim] [ANNOUNCE] Orange Squeeze 1.0 for Android Released

2011-12-18 Thread db122

1.0.3 is released which adds support all the way back to Donut (Android
1.6). I've been running it on my G1 running the SuperD ROM and it's
not too shabby. Thanks for your patience as we rapid-fire these update
releases.

[slim] Beginner looking to work with UNIX, not immediately aware of how to proceed...

2011-12-18 Thread eternal_embryonic

Hello,

I currently work with a Toshiba laptop, Satellite model A205, with a 32
bit operating system and am desiring to wipe my system clean, including
Windows Vista. I want to begin again with Solaris 11, and would like
to know the easiest way to do this. I have full administrative
privileges. Please, I'm looking to begin tonight and feedback would be
most appreciated.

Thank you,

Jonathan

Re: [slim] Best android hardware for Squeezebox remote ?

2011-12-18 Thread Michael Herger
Erland,

I think you really should know clearly what you're going to do with your
tablet, before you decide what to buy. Eg. I was surprised by how much I
liked the Kindle's form factor (7?) for _reading_ (I know, that's what
it's supposed to do). Larger tablets you can't use single-handed. And the
SB Controller App is running quite nicely on it. It's time we somehow get
it there officially...

But as an all-purpose tablet I still prefer the larger models. Eg.
browsing web pages has a big plus with a larger screen. Unfortunately
there's still a huge lack in tablet optimized software. Eg. my Acer's
pre-installed mail client does have an improved layout, but it lacks so
badly otherwise, that I prefer k9. Which is not optimized for the tablet's
size.

Many thanks for the reply. No sign of those errors in server.log, just
the phantom new version available text in the GUI.

Is this still an issue by today?

Re: [slim] feature suggestion: In-browser player

2011-12-18 Thread Pascal Hibon

I too would like to see a bit more efforts on the hardware side. The
current line up is lacking a Next gen Boom and a player with an on
board amplifier.
There are enough software players out there (iTunes, MediaMonkey,
foobar, etc).
