Re: [Dspace-tech] [KE1019161] URN in DSpace
Good morning, thank you helix for all these informations but i think now it takes us a bit to far away from the subject. I think it is good to know that URN's may be supported in 4.0. I can import items with outside generated URN's Storage is separated from DSpace. But the needed URN generation is not implemented yet. And yes, i think it should be, as you say, implemented properly. I'm not a fan of patching an application to get a core feature working. Again, thank you for that amazing support! Storage is simple, at least from the DSpace point of view, because it's just a directory (or a set of directories) on the local filesystem. How you mount them is another problem out of scope of DSpace. But you're probably talking about deciding whether to store large files in DSpace or link to them from DSpace metadata. In any case, that doesn't have much bearing on deciding between import vs. submit. Ok i extract that if i use, for example the batch import, i can generate the URN before and put it in DSpace during the import? Right, that would be my suggestion if you didn't use the submission process, like me. It wouldn't require any changes in DSpace. Yes i think it will be useful for more institutions in Germany as well in other countries. I thought I'd advise you how to change XMLUI or JSPUI to accomodate the identifiers during submission, but if it would be a widely used change, it should be implemented properly in the dspace-api underlying all the interfaces. There's actually a service for identifiers, but only handles are currently first-class citizens and more developments in this area are expected. Unfortunately, I'm not very familiar with this part of the codebase. It would be best to contact @mire and ask about their unfinished work in this area (External Identifier Services). https://github.com/DSpace/DSpace/tree/master/dspace-api/src/main/java/org/dspace/identifier Regards, ~~helix84 Compulsory reading: DSpace Mailing List Etiquette https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSPACE/Mailing+List+Etiquette -- Everyone hates slow websites. Solr stats - has been in DSpace since about 1.5, listens to internal events in DSpace, should log everything including bitstream downloads, uses Solr to store them, there are optional interfaces to display these stats in DSpace, like the commercial addon from @mire. Elastic Search - a new work by Peter Dietz, debuting in 3.0, also listens to the same events, should log everything that Solr does, uses different storage system, has some interfaces with graphs for DSpace available out-of-the-box Google Analytics - In DSpace this is only the Javascript snippets that *records* hits, stores it in Google, has *currently no way of displaying* the stats in DSpace interface (I thought this is the development you were interested in), this snippet has been in XMLUI and will be in JSPUI from 3.0 So those are the out-of-the-box statistics that are in DSpace. Plus you can extract statistics from logs. Available as a separate addon, there are Minho stats (also with displaying capabilities), which I'm sure you'll hear more about in the following year. I tried to gather up what I know on this wiki page: https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSPACE/Solr It should be a valuable resource for anyone who decides to extend and customize DSpace or integrate it with other systems. But, alas, it's still missing examples of good queries. Therefore I'm announcing a mini-document-a-thon (yes, I just made that up). There are 2 goals: 1) gather a list of suggestions what useful information Solr can give us from the data it has (different top 10 statistics, data-mining, statistics of types of stored items, filter queries; you name it - the more inventive the better) 2) construct the actual queries You can send your responses either to this thread (goals 1 and 2) or simply edit the mentioned wiki page (goal 2). Yes, I understand that in the bitstream table, store_number tells DSpace where to find the file and the internal_id tells DSpace 2 things: 1. which subdirectory in that store_number the file resides (according to the first 6 digits) 2. what the actual file name is What a mess! Thanks for your reply - it was as I thought it was! Sue You may be lucky (as strange as it may sound) if you're getting whole files, which would indicate that just the filesystem was corrupted, not the contents of bitstreams. It should be possible to find the right location for files. If I were you, I'd make a list of all the files (find /dspace/assetstore -type f) then look up their names in the bitstream table, then take the corresponding checksum and run md5sum on the bitstream to verify its integrity. As for locations within assetstore, if the bitstream name is correct, it's easy to find the directory by the first three numbers of bitstream filename. If bitstream filename is corrupted, it would be harder. You could make a list of all their md5 sums and then do the lookup I mentioned in reverse - find the bitstream filename by its md5 sum in the bitstream table. Good luck! Just ask if you're in doubt. Re: [Dspace-tech] Google Analytics Statistics within DSpace on XMLUI?
Solr stats - has been in DSpace since about 1.5, listens to internal events in DSpace, should log everything including bitstream downloads, uses Solr to store them, there are optional interfaces to display these stats in DSpace, like the commercial addon from @mire. Elastic Search - a new work by Peter Dietz, debuting in 3.0, also listens to the same events, should log everything that Solr does, uses different storage system, has some interfaces with graphs for DSpace available out-of-the-box Google Analytics - In DSpace this is only the Javascript snippets that *records* hits, stores it in Google, has *currently no way of displaying* the stats in DSpace interface (I thought this is the development you were interested in), this snippet has been in XMLUI and will be in JSPUI from 3.0 Thanks for the explanation! I think making Google Analytics statistics viewable within the DSpace has been implemented by University of Edinbergh on JSPUI. We are interested in having this displayed on XMLUI. http://ukcorr.blogspot.com/2012/03/using-google-analytics-statistics.html The code is available at git too https://github.com/seesmith/Dspace-googleanalytics Best, Ying -- Everyone hates slow websites. [Dspace-tech] Monkeying with Authentication and Manakin
Essentially, what I want to do is trigger a login whenever an unauthenticated user visits any URL under /xmlui. FYI, I'm using Shibboleth authentication, I have the entire hostname protected, so that the user has to be authenticated before entering the site. After reading through a lot of cocoon documentation today, it seems like I should be able to modify the sitemap.xmap file to accomplish this. The DRI has the userMeta attribute 'authenticated' that I can test against. If it's 'no,' I want to trigger a login. From looking in the sitemap.xmap, it appears that the action I want to perform is 'StartAuthentication'. How would I do this in the sitemap.xmap? The existing matching that occurs in the pipeline section of the sitemap is based URL pattern. How can I base it on a DRI element attribute? Also, when a request comes in to /xmlui/login how can I tell what services that request?I was expecting to see something similar to a map:match pattern=/loginmap:act type=doLogin in the pipeline entries of the sitemap. I don't see anything even close, so what handles it? [Dspace-tech] handle server points to the wrong thing
Hello all, I have an maybe-unusual DSpace set up where we use the xmlui for our public face of the repository, and the jpsui for submissions/management, etc. In effect, our jspui side mirrors the xmlui side, so the side with the login only gets used by our staff. Yesterday, something changed after we restarted the handle server. On public (xmlui) side, the link in each record to the URI began to point the user to the admin (jspui) side. Anytime a person clicks on the handle record page for an item, they are pointed to the admin side. We are using DSpace 1.8. We've got documentation, followed the indications and restarted the server, but the problem has persisted now for more than 24 hours. Does this sound at all familiar to anyone? This is our site: http://calhoun.nps.edu If nothing else, feedback about what you see when you try to access the handle pages, would be helpful.
