Good morning,

thank you helix for all these informations but i think now it takes us
a bit to far away from the subject.
I think it is good to know that URN's may be supported in 4.0.
I can import items with outside generated URN's
Storage is separated from DSpace.
But the needed URN generation is not implemented yet.

And yes, i think it should be, as you say, implemented properly.
I'm not a fan of patching an application to get a core feature working.

Again, thank you for that amazing support!

I see, so you're not using DSpace yet.
After that i have to work out a process and it depends on the
interconnection between, where is the storage, how can i access the storage,
do we need an integration of an image server ... and if i can answer all
these question i can tell you what we will use or both.

Storage is simple, at least from the DSpace point of view, because
it's just a directory (or a set of directories) on the local
filesystem. How you mount them is another problem out of scope of
 DSpace.

But you're probably talking about deciding whether to store large
files in DSpace or link to them from DSpace metadata.

In any case, that doesn't have much bearing on deciding between import
 vs. submit.

Ok i extract that if i use, for example the batch import, i can generate the
URN before and put it in DSpace during the import?

Right, that would be my suggestion if you didn't use the submission
process, like me. It wouldn't require any changes in DSpace.

Yes i think it will be useful for more institutions in Germany as well in
 other countries.

I thought I'd advise you how to change XMLUI or JSPUI to accomodate
the identifiers during submission, but if it would be a widely used
change, it should be implemented properly in the dspace-api underlying
all the interfaces. There's actually a service for identifiers, but
only handles are currently first-class citizens and more developments
in this area are expected. Unfortunately, I'm not very familiar with
this part of the codebase. It would be best to contact @mire and ask
about their unfinished work in this area (External Identifier
 Services).

I tested all serializers,I thought the xhtml serializer was the right one
because if you change the tag doctype-system or doctype-public in the

OAI would be the best and most elegant solution, we are harvested by many OAI

their OAI capabilities.

Thank you very much, I will send the final solution in case anyone is

Hi Lewatle,

you're mixing 2 distinct notification features here:

1) There's RSS, which works best with a specialized application called
RSS reader; this has nothing to do with email at all.

2) There are subscriptions, which are sent by email. As administrator,
you have to have SMTP properly configured in DSpace. As the
subscribing user, you should select a collection/community you wish to
subscribe to.

I am a bit confused myself. It would help if I looked into how these things
work before I say any more—minimize the damage.

Alright, these 3 statistics are completely independent systems within
DSpace: Solr stats / Elastic Search and Google Analytics.

Solr stats - has been in DSpace since about 1.5, listens to internal
events in DSpace, should log everything including bitstream
downloads, uses Solr to store them, there are optional interfaces to
display these stats in DSpace, like the commercial addon from @mire.

Elastic Search - a new work by Peter Dietz, debuting in 3.0, also
listens to the same events, should log everything that Solr does, uses
different storage system, has some interfaces with graphs for DSpace
available out-of-the-box

Google Analytics - In DSpace this is only the Javascript snippets that
*records* hits, stores it in Google, has *currently no way of
displaying* the stats in DSpace interface (I thought this is the
development you were interested in), this snippet has been in XMLUI
and will be in JSPUI from 3.0

So those are the out-of-the-box statistics that are in DSpace. Plus
you can extract statistics from logs.

Available as a separate addon, there are Minho stats (also with
displaying capabilities), which I'm sure you'll hear more about in the
following year.

I hope that clears it up.

I have to say that while it's possible to make a system which will

the most common security mistakes in general. For that reason, I'm not
going to give you tips how to do it.

I'm wondering what is the reason why you don't want to use HTTPS.
Perhaps you don't have a free IP address? The solution is to use SNI

Sounds right, to verify if the files are present where they should be, IOW to
verify file names and location.

The second step would be, as I suggested, to verify if the file contents is
actually what it should be by comparing it to the checksum.

But you're right with doing the name/location check first, because then you
should just be able to run the [dspace]/bin/dspace checker
script to check the checksums.

[Dspace-tech] Solr document-a-thon

2012-10-31 Thread helix84
Hello everyone!

Solr has gradually become an important part of DSpace and isn't going
away - on the contrary, it's used more and more.

Our Solr documentation doesn't quite live up to that fact. I tried to
gather up what I know on this wiki page:
https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSPACE/Solr

It should be a valuable resource for anyone who decides to extend and
customize DSpace or integrate it with other systems.

But, alas, it's still missing examples of good queries. Therefore I'm
announcing a mini-document-a-thon (yes, I just made that up). There
are 2 goals:
1) gather a list of suggestions what useful information Solr can give
us from the data it has (different top 10 statistics, data-mining,
statistics of types of stored items, filter queries; you name it - the
more inventive the better)
2) construct the actual queries

You can send your responses either to this thread (goals 1 and 2) or
simply edit the mentioned wiki page (goal 2).

I'm curious how creative the DSpace community is! If you're reading
this, try to think of at least one idea!

Good luck!

Re: [Dspace-tech] SQL to export the thumbnail filename

2012-10-31 Thread helix84
Sure, that's easy:

SELECT bitstream.name, bitstream.sequence_id
FROM bitstream,bundle2bitstream,bundle
WHERE bundle.name = 'THUMBNAIL'
AND bundle2bitstream.bitstream_id = bitstream.bitstream_id
AND bundle2bitstream.bundle_id = bundle.bundle_id;

or change the first line to

SELECT bitstream.name || '?sequence=' || bitstream.sequence_id

depending on what format you want.

Re: [Dspace-tech] Assetstore structure question

2012-10-31 Thread Thornton, Susan M. (LARC-B702)[LITES]
Yes, that would take a while to do since we have approximately 188,000 Items in
our repository and quite a few Items have more than one bitstream. :-)

I did figure out a way to compare what was in the bitstream table with what was
on the file system and, luckily we are not missing any assetstore files.

Thanks for your email!

Good afternoon,

If there are files in all the right places, it might be less effort to export
the entire repo and then import into a fresh instance. Maybe. I know you'uns

 1. which subdirectory in that store_number the

You may be lucky (as strange as it may sound) if you're getting whole

files.

If I were you, I'd make a list of all the files (find
/dspace/assetstore
-type f) then look up their names in the bitstream table, then take
the
corresponding checksum and run md5sum on the bitstream to verify its

 integrity.

As for locations within assetstore, if the bitstream name is correct,
it's
easy to find the directory by
the first three numbers of bitstream
filename.

If bitstream filename is corrupted, it would be harder. You could
make a
list of all their md5 sums and then do the lookup I mentioned in
reverse -
find the bitstream filename by its md5 sum in the bitstream table.

Good luck! Just ask if you're in doubt.

Re: [Dspace-tech] Google Analytics Statistics within DSpace on XMLUI?

2012-10-31 Thread Ying Jin

Thanks for the explanation! I think making Google Analytics statistics
viewable within the DSpace has been implemented by University of
Edinbergh on JSPUI. We are interested in having this displayed on XMLUI.

http://ukcorr.blogspot.com/2012/03/using-google-analytics-statistics.html

The code is available at git too

[Dspace-tech] Monkeying with Authentication and Manakin

2012-10-31 Thread Vamirr
Essentially, what I want to do is trigger a login whenever an
unauthenticated user visits any URL under /xmlui. FYI, I'm using Shibboleth
authentication, I have the entire hostname protected, so that the user has
to be authenticated before entering the site.

After reading through a lot of cocoon documentation today, it seems like I
should be able to modify the sitemap.xmap file to accomplish this.

The DRI has the userMeta attribute 'authenticated' that I can test against.
If it's 'no,' I want to trigger a login. From looking in the sitemap.xmap,
it appears that the action I want to perform is 'StartAuthentication'.

How would I do this in the sitemap.xmap? The existing matching that occurs
in the pipeline section of the sitemap is based URL pattern. How can I
base it on a DRI element attribute?

Also, when a request comes in to /xmlui/login how can I tell what services
that request?I was expecting to see something similar to a map:match
pattern=/loginmap:act type=doLogin in the pipeline entries of the
sitemap. I don't see anything even close, so what handles it?

Greatly appreciate your time.

[Dspace-tech] Discovery Module - XMLUI - bitstream level data?

2012-10-31 Thread Sara Amato
I'm trying out the Discovery module for the first time. It's WONDERFUL!
I've been able to successfully add facets for data from items (e.g.
dc.description), but am failing to create a facet using bitstream metadata.
(e.g. dc.format.mimetype) . Is it possible to use the bitstream metadata as a
facet?

Alternatively, I'd be happy with any way to get a count of numbers of
particular mime types in a collection, e.g. Jpgs (2020) ; PDF (253) . I've
been trying was trying get this via solr but I'm guessing the bitstream level
data isn't in there

Obvioulsy my understanding of the underlying data structure is weak. Im using
1.8.2 , XMLUI.

Any guidance much appreciated.

However - the addon that is present in dspace add-on page, is all written

May I ask anyone, who has re-written the above dspace commenting addon for

I would have to read the whole code. and rewrite most of it to integrate it

(git) a first time Without errors, in a clean installation, BUT any
subsequent compiles produce the aforementioned error.

 only org.dspace.content.authority.DSpaceControlledVocabularyTest and
 org.dspace.statistics.util.TestLocationUtils passed without errors

The error is always related with

Hi, there already has been rc2 meanwhile and some commits since that. I
recommend giving thee master branch a try:
 https://github.com/DSpace/DSpace

There's even a button that will give you a zip file of the latest code if
 you prefer that before Git.

Thank you for testing the latest code and reporting issues, much
 appreciated!

Hi Lohit,
no, I don't think anyone did that.

I can add that the JSPUI version might be updated soon, though.

Re: [Dspace-tech] Discovery Module - XMLUI - bitstream level data?

I'm trying out the Discovery module for the first time. It's WONDERFUL!

Hi Sara,

nice to hear that!

Keep in mind that enabling Discovery might require you to give Tomcat a
little extra memory. Just remember that in case you run into any memory
problems.

I've been able to successfully add facets for data from items (e.g.
dc.description), but am failing to create a facet using bitstream metadata.
(e.g. dc.format.mimetype) . Is it possible to use the bitstream metadata
 as a facet?

I don't think you're doing it right. Bitstreams currently don't have
metadata like items do. What you're referring to is not in out-of-the-box
DSpace, if you have such metadata, it must be some customization you made
to the *item* metadata.

Therefore it isn't in Solr, either.

Alternatively, I'd be happy with any way to get a count of numbers of
 particular mime types in a collection, e.g. Jpgs (2020) ; PDF (253) .
I've been trying was trying get this via solr but I'm guessing the
bitstream level data isn't in there

Here's how you can get the list using SQL:

To list all bitstream names:

SELECT bitstream.nameFROM bitstream,bitstreamformatregistryWHERE
bitstreamformatregistry.bitstream_format_id =
bitstream.bitstream_format_idAND bitstreamformatregistry.mimetype =
'application/pdf'

To list only bitstream names from a collection specified by handle:

SELECT bitstream.nameFROM
bitstream,bitstreamformatregistry,bundle2bitstream,item2bundle,collection2item,handleWHERE
collection2item.collection_id=handle.resource_idAND
collection2item.item_id=item2bundle.item_idAND
bundle2bitstream.bundle_id=item2bundle.bundle_idAND
bundle2bitstream.bitstream_id=bitstream.bitstream_idAND
bitstreamformatregistry.bitstream_format_id =
bitstream.bitstream_format_idAND bitstreamformatregistry.mimetype =
'application/pdf'AND handle.handle='123456789/123';

It will work only for collections, but you can analogically use
natural join on the community2collection table if you want to use
communities.

To to get only the count, change the first line to

SELECT count(bitstream.name)

Hope that helps and good luck with your Discovery experiments. If you
run into anything that you don't understand and can't find
documentation for, don't hesitate to ask.

WIth your custom metadata, you should be able to simply do this query
in any collection/community and it will list the items and give you
the count (of the items, not bitstreams):

format.mimetype:JPG

(Assuming JPG is the value you're storing that, you may need to use
quotes if there are spaces in the metadata value)

[Dspace-tech] handle server points to the wrong thing

2012-10-31 Thread Berry, Irene (CIV)
Hello all,
I have an maybe-unusual DSpace set up where we use the xmlui for our public
face of the repository, and the jpsui for submissions/management, etc. In
effect, our jspui side mirrors the xmlui side, so the side with the login only
gets used by our staff.

Yesterday, something changed after we restarted the handle server. On public
(xmlui) side, the link in each record to the URI began to point the user to
the admin (jspui) side. Anytime a person clicks on the handle record page for
an item, they are pointed to the admin side.

We are using DSpace 1.8.

We've got documentation, followed the indications and restarted the server, but
the problem has persisted now for more than 24 hours. Does this sound at all
familiar to anyone?

This is our site: http://calhoun.nps.edu If nothing else, feedback about what
you see when you try to access the handle pages, would be helpful. (Example
here: http://calhoun.nps.edu/public/handle/10945/13392)

Thank you for any new ideas about what might be going on,
With appreciation for this place --
Irene Berry

Hi Irene,

what's the value of your dspace.url in dspace.cfg? It should point to XMLUI.

Helix, Is there any way to do this in JSPUI ?

Not that I know of. Shouldn't be hard, but I guess body needed it so
