Re: [Dspace-tech] Problem with statistics
Hi Rev, the best way to explore whether the standard DSpace stats address your problems, is to experiment with them on http://demo.dspace.org Make sure you do your testing with the User interface you wish to use (subtle differences in the XML User interface and in the JSP user interface. [Dspace-tech] IE8 and Manakin
Hi, all, Does your institution's Manakin look all right in IE8? In our case, the browsing page pagination.info and ds-artifact-list all drop down, and the advanced search page doesn't display right either. Here are my questions: -How to add an IE8 css to the Kubrick theme or any other theme? Tried to modify the global sitemap.xmap and the local sitemap.xmap as Ryan did (see below for a past post), however, Manakin in IE8 still picks up the IE7 stylesheet (in our case). I also followed suggestions by a past post and added compatibility mode to the buildheader section (added this line meta http-equiv=X-UA-Compatible content=IE=EmulateIE7/), it doesn't make much different though. -What adjustments do you recommend to make the pages in IE8 display right? Please kindly reply if you have any insight(especially if you use Kubrick theme. We switched to Kubrick theme recently and we use 1.6.2). Thanks a lot! Sophie - Posted by Ryan Clark on Thu, 03 Dec 2009 10:07:43 -0800 [Dspace-tech] CSS issues with xmlui and IE8 I'm having CSS issues with IE8. I'm using a slightly modified version of the Kubrick theme that comes packaged with Manakin. Spacing of the sidebar, header and footer are way off in IE8. I noticed that when I access my site using IE8, it uses two stylesheets: style.css and style-ie6.css. My first thought was to try and adjust that to use the style-ie7.css. I tried to fix it by doing the following: 1) In the global sitemap.xmap, I added a line: map:selectors map:selector name=browser ... ... *browser name=explorer8 useragent=MSIE 8/* ... 2) In the theme's sitemap.xmap I added another set of lines: map:select type=browser ... *map:when test=explorer8* * map:transform type=IncludePageMeta* * **map:parameter name=stylesheet.screen#1 value=lib/css/style.css/* * **map:parameter name=stylesheet.screen#2 value=lib/css/style-ie7.css/* * **map:parameter name=javascript#1 value=lib/jquery-1.2.min.js/* * **map:parameter name=javascript#2 value=lib/kubrick-jquery.js/* * **map:parameter name=theme.path value={global:theme-path}/* * **map:parameter name=theme.name value={global:theme-name}/* * /map:transform* */map:when* ... However I didn't have any luck -- IE8 still identifies itself as useragent MSIE 8, but somehow I'm still ending up with pages using the IE6 stylesheet. Any suggestions? [Dspace-tech] FW: Dspace 1.5.2, xmlui and Browse by
I don't suppose anyone has any hints on this? Bribery w/ cookies isn't out of the question! :) -Original Message- From: Sobieralski, Damian Michael Sent: Thursday, September 23, 2010 4:12 PM To: 'dspace-tech@lists.sourceforge.net' Subject: Dspace 1.5.2, xmlui and Browse by I noticed that when I browse by author or browse by subject, after I pick the author (or subject) it gives me a list of all items matching this browse. I also notice that at the text at the top it lists the Browse By followed by the author name (or subject). So, let's say I do the following. Level 1) Click to browse by author. Level 2) A new page renders showing all authors I click on Smith, Mr. Level 3) A new page renders showing all items by Smith, Mr. AND, at the top of this page it says Browse by Author Smith, Mr. Well, I added my own browse fields. They work fine. Well, except when one reached that 3rd level all it says is Browse by MYCUSTOMFIELD. It doesn't list the custom field's value after the browse by text at the top of the page. Hopefully, this makes sense. Does anyone have any idea what I need to set to get the item's value to appear on that 3rd level of browse by for a custom browse field? Re: [Dspace-tech] Handle server on 1.6.2 (Windows)
Louw, I've had similar issues and errors when trying to configure the handle server. Granted I was installing on a RHEL 5 virtual server but I think the general installation instructions remain the same. * Make sure all necessary ports are open for the appropriate communication o port 2641 UDP (input and output) o port 2641 TCP (input and output) o port 8000 TCP (input and output) o These are the default ports but you can choose others, just make sure that there are no other processes running on these ports as the handle service needs dedicated ports. * Double check your handle configurations in dspace.cfg and /[dspace]/handle-server/config.dct * Talk with your contact from CNRI, they can help you if the configuration isn't correct. Also what is the output from handle-server.log after you run the /[dspace]/bin/ start-handle-server script? My apologies if anything is different for a Windows machine. Re: [Dspace-tech] IE8 and Manakin
I switched the menu and main content position to the default one (menu on the right) and reversed related changes, now the browse and advanced pages look fine in IE8. It still picks up the IE7 stylesheet, but it displays ok. (Our institution wanted the menu on the left; since it causes so many positioning problems, now we are ok with the default layout.) If you know how to add a new stylesheet to a theme, please do share it! (It doesn't work by changing the global sitemap.xmap and local sitemap.xmap, see below). Thank you! [Dspace-tech] DSpace Performance / Memory Usage -- Share your experiences help us make improvements!
Hello all, A recent thread on 'dspace-tech' mailing list (see: http://www.mail-archive.com/dspace-tech@lists.sourceforge.net/msg11969.html) has brought up the question of DSpace 1.6.x's performance and memory usage. We've already had mention of potential performance issues (memory leaks, mostly), and the occasional need to restart Tomcat relatively frequently. As DSpace Software is built/maintained entirely by an all volunteer Committer team, we occasionally need to rely on our large user community to help us track down issues that our individual Committers may not yet be encountering in their local DSpace installations. Therefore, I'd like to ask all of you on these lists for open discussion and community feedback around what issues you may be encountering in regards to DSpace Performance and/or Memory Usage. We welcome any constructive feedback you can provide, along with any hints/tips you may have discovered in your experiences. I've added a general template to report your DSpace performance/memory issues (or even resolutions, if you've found them) on this wiki page: https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSPACE/ScalabilityIssues1.6 You are welcome to report your issues (using that template) either on the wiki itself, or by sending an email to this mailing list. You'll notice, as a part of this template, I've asked if you'd be willing to volunteer time to help resolve the issues. My hope is that we can start an interest group of volunteer developers (or other semi-techie folks) who can start to work together more closely to share info and tackle these issues. Thanks all! I'm hoping this can help us to jump start the process of finding a resolution to any memory leaks or performance issues that may existing in the current DSpace software. But, it does take volunteers to make this happen quickly! Please share your issues what you've found, but also think about volunteering some of your time/expertise. Who knows, you might even find it may result in an invitation to become our next DSpace Committer (thus providing you and your institution more of a say in the future of DSpace software)! [As a related sidenote:] if you aren't already aware, we also have a System Administrators area to our Wiki where any DSpace System Admins are encouraged to share their hints/tips/configurations/setups. Please feel free to take a look at it, and think about sharing your own hints/tips with others. Anyone is welcome to create content or new pages in this area: https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSPACE/SystemAdministrators Tim Donohue Technical Lead for DSpace Project DuraSpace.org -- Start uncovering the many advantages of virtual appliances and start using them to simplify application deployment and accelerate your shift to cloud computing. http://p.sf.net/sfu/novell-sfdev2dev ___ DSpace-tech mailing list DSpace-tech@lists.sourceforge.net https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/dspace-tech

Hi Baseer Yes it is. See below. Just modfiy your "dspace.cfg" file. # Settings for content count/strength information # whether to display collection and community strengths # (This configuration is not used by XMLUI. To show strengths in the # XMLUI, you just need to create a theme which displays them) webui.strengths.show = true # if showing the strengths, should they be counted in real time or # fetched from cache? NOTE: To improve scaling/performance, # the XMLUI only makes strengths available to themes if they are CACHED! # # Counts fetched in real time will perform an actual count of the # database contents every time a page with this feature is requested, # which will not scale. If the below setting is to use the cache, you # must run the following command periodically to update the count: # # [dspace]/bin/itemcounter # # The default is to count in real time # webui.strengths.cache = true Cheers hg On 27/09/2010 17:23, Khan, Baseer wrote: Hello List, We are in a process of moving to Dspace 1.6.2 Manakin , In our older version which was JSPUI we use to have number of items in a community or collection like in the image below. Hi Jason, I've had to do something similar, which was setting our licenses to be admin read only. Here's the code I would run to do this: http://gist.github.com/599397 Its looking at all the policies for bitstreams in the thumbnail bundles. And for everything that was admin-group read, it changes it to anonymous group read. You'll want to test this on some testing data first. [As a related sidenote:] if you aren't already aware, we also have a System Administrators area to our Wiki where any DSpace System Admins are encouraged to share their hints/tips/configurations/setups. Please feel free to take a look at it, and think about sharing your own hints/tips with others. Anyone is welcome to create content or new pages in this area: https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSPACE/SystemAdministrators Tim Donohue Technical Lead for DSpace Project DuraSpace.org -- Message: 2 Date: Mon, 27 Sep 2010 12:05:45 -0500 From: liss RR liss...@hotmail.com Subject: [Dspace-tech] test-email To: listaDspace dspace-tech@lists.sourceforge.net Message-ID: snt144-w39ced3277fa5c7db1a631a95...@phx.gbl Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1 Hi all! Re: [Dspace-tech] test-email
Hi, the error message you sent would seem to indicate a refused connection, which could be due to an incorrect SMTP password, so I'd suggest double-checking what you have configured for an SMTP server, user, and password in your dspace.cfg. You did not mention your operating system, if it happens to be RHEL5, I know that we ran into issues with sending mail via SMTP, until we changed out the javamail.jar library, from the default provided by RHEL to the one provided by DSpace. I recently added info regarding this to the wiki, on this page: https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DSPACE/Installing+DSpace+on+Red+Hat+Enterprise+Linux+5 Scroll down to the section Replace the javamail.jar file. --Hardy -Original Message- From: liss RR [mailto:liss...@hotmail.com] Sent: Monday, September 27, 2010 12:06 PM To: listaDspace Subject: [Dspace-tech] test-email Hi all!
