Re: [Dx4win] Identity QSOs missing from LoTW

2013-05-08 Thread Loren Hunt
Jim,It was with great fear and trepidation that I followed your instructions to
the T.Even after I had safely saved my log away I still hesitated deleting all
QSOs from the log...When the process was complete I had 181 QSOs not previously
uploaded that I was able to submit to LoTW. There were a few additional that I
didn't have a valid certificate for that were from a previous call. This
yielded  18 QSLs 3 of which were new band slots.
Notes on your notes: In step 11 you must clear the fields (no filters or
searches) or it will not clear all the flags. It took a few hit and miss
attempts before I had all the right fields cleared.
Thanks for taking the time to do this.73AD6ZJ, Loren

Hi Folks,

I've been working on a new application note to help you identify QSOs
from your log that you *think* have been uploaded to ARRL Logbook of
the World, but really are not:

   http://dx4win.ad1c.us/appnotes/missing_lotw.html

I would appreciate if a couple of people could look this over and
actually try it, to let me know if any of the information is incorrect
or confusing.

Re: [Dx4win] Problem with LOTW and DX4WIN listing comparison?

2012-05-03 Thread Loren Hunt
Jim,The problem with doing this is it wants to submit even for countries that
have already been checked if they were submitted and checked as LoTW QSLs
previously. I just had both a paper and LoTW awards completed last month so my
new confirmed is under 25 or so. Everything else is marked as Checked. I
un-clicked the LoTW box and did a Submission report. It came up with 66 new
ones to submit. Doing it the other way around (LoTW selected and paper not)
doesn't fare any better with 266 new ones...
What I thought was odd (even buggy) was that even if a band/mode was marked as
checked in the DXCC award field DX4WIN still put it on the list if it had
been checked as LoTW.
So I think this isn't what he was looking for. I think if you want to submit
one or the other it is a manual operation. When I couldn't find a way to do
it separate I just did them both at the same time.
By the way - I submitted the new style online form for my paper QSLs on the
first day it was available. I had updated numbers on the LoTW page in less than
2 weeks and my certificate in less than 3 weeks. So I like the new system. Good
going DXCC awards team!
73Loren, AD6ZJ

No program.  But if you go into the Awards manager (File | Awards),
and on the DXCC tab, in the upper-left box, uncheck LoTW (so only QSL
is checked), and perform the DXCC submission, then DX4WIN will only
try to submit paper QSLs, even if you also have a LoTW confirmation.
That may or may not be what you want.

No good automatic way.  Make the QSO window as big as you can using
F5.  You'll see the award flags at the bottom.  Manually set the DXCC
mixed and/or band and/or mode flags to 'S' for any DXCC credit that
you submitted via LoTW.

This may or may not help:

    http://dx4win.ad1c.us/appnotes/dxcc.html

There is just no good way to track LoTW submissions if done entirely
from the LoTW web site (i.e. outside of DX4WIN). There is no way to
download the submission status into DX4WIN.

I still haven't changed my 2010 submissions to Checked, nor have I
submitted my 2011 credits, which were done entirely through LoTW
(about 50 credits).  I do need to do this, and I have detailed notes
that I took *during* the LoTW submission process as to exactly which
QSOs were submitted for which credits. It's just a matter of setting
the correct DXCC award flags.

Get used to it, because CQ will start accepting LoTW confirmations for
credit for their awards programs, like WAZ and WPX.

Please re-read the DXCC application note.

In DX4WIN 8.0x, there are three confirmed boxes: one for paper QSLs,
one for LoTW and one for eQSL. The Award Manager (File | Awards) is
configured by default to accept either QSL or LoTW confirmations for
DXCC.  Do not mix them up, i.e.. don't use the QSL Cnfm field to
confirm LoTW contacts, etc. You'll never be able to straighten this
out.  You may want to read this app. note as well:

    http://dx4win.ad1c.us/appnotes/lotw.html

The comparison program only works if the DXCC award flags in your
DX4WIN log are set to Checked (or Submitted).  The instructions for
the program say this right up front.  So setting anything to simply
Confirmed won't do it.

Please re-read the DXCC Application Note.  It explains a lot.

The only change you will see for LoTW is when you submit for an award. There is

The On-line DXCC Application form is up:

    https://p1k.arrl.org/onlinedxcc/

Step 2 says:

If you use a logging program, you will find it faster and more
accurate to prepare an ADIF file containing the QSO information for
the QSLs that you want to submit with your application rather than
manually entering the information from each card. Use the Import ADIF
tab to import your ADIF file.

Here's how you can do this in DX4WIN:

First, peferform a DXCC Submission from the Reports menu (see
http://dx4win.ad1c.us/appnotes/dxcc.html for help)

To export ADIF, you will have to use an F8 search.  Make sure your QSO
window is fully expanded (using F5) so the Award Flags are visible at
the bottom.  Now, if you are submitting any credits for the DXCC Mixed
award, use F8 to search for 'S' in the DXCC Mixed Award flag.  Then
File | Import/Export, and after making sure ADIF is selected, File |
Export.  DX4WIN will ask if you want to use the current active filter.
Answer YES.  Once that's done, do the same for your DXCC Band and
DXCC Mode submissions.   Make sure you don't over-write the ADIF files
you create before uploading them to the ARRL server (i.e. don't save
them all to the same file name).  I can't tell if the application will
let you upload multiple ADIF files, or if you only get one shot.
Maybe someone who does this can add more details, and this can be
added to the DXCC application note.

I downloaded the list of countries from the ARRL web sit for the upcoming

Now how can I track what I work using DX4WIN? I wonder if it is possible to

Is this possible? Or is there some way a filter/selection can be set up?

I do a search on today's date, and none of my contacts except 1 are coming
up in the result.  NOTE: this happens when I am doing a filter search in the
QSO window, and typing 10/30/2011.  I show 30 contacts from today in the
logbook, but none when I do a search.  I know the QSO is in there because I
see an indication of it in the DXCC window, showing that it is an
unconfirmed QSO.

Then I do a search in the QSO window on a specific callsign, like ZK2X or
AH0BT from today, no result.

Then I do a search on the QSO field, where I have entries like new DX and
still nothing from today's contacts.

If I don't use the filter search in the QSO window and instead use
FILTER-SELECTION and specify today's date, all the QSO's from today show up
just fine.

Is there something that changed with the filter options in the QSO window?

Re: [Dx4win] TS-480 best choice to set radio interface

2011-05-24 Thread Loren Hunt
Thanks for all the advice. I'm still having difficulties. I no long have the
error that the rig doesn't support the frequency but when I double click on a
spot the radio makes a short blip and doesn't change frequencies. Still sorting
that out.

Just to be sure I launch my old logging software and setup the TS480. It
connected and I can set frequency TX and such. So there must still be something
I'm not setting correctly with DX4WIN.

DX4WIN is able to read band and mode information from the rig but going the
other way there is an issue.

Any ideas?

I have a TS-480SAT and am just getting it setup as my second rig on
 DX4WIN.

I had it set as a TS870 and it was working. I guess the TS870 doesn't
have 6M since when I try to click on a spot it says bad frequency for
radio. Now down in the QSO entry field it happily displays the correct
6M frequency. Is there a better radio to set it as?

 Thanks,

[Dx4win] closing and re-opening the packet window

2011-04-21 Thread Loren Hunt
Occasionally I click the Connect button in the packet window and select a
node that is off-line or something. I just get nothing in the packet window. At
that point I try another but since it already thinks it is connected nothing
happens. So I close DX4WIN, re-open and select my second choice and I'm in. Is
there a way to do all this without exiting the program?

Re: [Dx4win] merge question

2011-03-31 Thread Loren Hunt
Steve,
Wow! I had the same problem when I switched to DX4WIN in January. The Freeware
software dumped the oldest QSO when I made a new entry. Thanks to LoTW I was
able to recover the whole thing.

First start with a new log file and then import all those LoTW files into it.
After you are satisfied it is OK, make a backup of your main log and put it in
a safe place just in case.

Now import the log you created from the LoTW log. Choose to ignore duplicate
QSOs.

This is what I did and everything was recovered.

A friend has his DX4WIN log which may
be missing several thousand QSOs due to an error in a
previous competitive program (made before the transfer to
DX4WIN as the new main logging program now).  I have a
special adif download from LOTW which may include those
missing QSOs.  How can I merge the downloaded file into
the main log, but prevent duplicates?  I made a special
DX4WIN log of the 50K+ QSOs adif's for an easy merge.

What defines a duplicate QSO from a non-duplicate
QSO?  I mean how many parameters must match to be a
 dup?

Re: [Dx4win] Missing LoTW Confirmations

2011-03-14 Thread Loren Hunt
Dusty,
It might be that your award setup does not have the LoTW box checked. In this
case only paper QSLs would show.

On the pull down menus go to File-Awards Go to the DXCC pane. In the upper
left box see that LoTW is checked. Do this also for the WAS pane. I think the
default has them set to off but not sure.

Hope this helps.

Re: [Dx4win] Check your CW Cutoff frequencies (30m might be wrong)

Yes, and if I move the cutoff to the top of 30M then all the RTTY posts show as
CW and clicking on them puts the rig in CW mode.

It would be nice if the clusters would add a mode field.

You can set your cutoff on 30 to the
top of the band and never see
 another SSB spot on 30.
As to adding another cutoff... its never going solve the
 problem since
 bands overlap.

If you would like this fixed properly, write a note to the
 maintainer of
the DXCluster software to add mode to the standard format.
 I have a
couple of times. It makes absolutely no sense to me that it
 does not
especially as 90% or more of spots are generated my
 computer now, not
guys typing into a telnet session. It's long overdue.

[Dx4win] DXCC submission band/mode question

2011-01-31 Thread Loren Hunt
I am trying to set DX4WIN (8.04) to properly submit for DXCC. Under App notes I
found the following:
This step makes a list of confirmed QSOs that will add to your various DXCC
Award totals. It's important to have your station and DXCC Award preferences
set
up correctly before you do this.

The problem is I can't find a way to set things up so as to not submit every
band/mode combination. For instance, I have JA Awarded on SSB (10M)  and on 80M
(CW). When I do a report for submitted I get an 80M SSB QSO showing up in the
list. Since DXCC isn't band/mode specific (DXCC is band specific OR mode
specific), the awards desk will indicate 80M and SSB have already been Awarded.

There must be a setup I'm not setting correctly...

Re: [Dx4win] DXCC submission band/mode question

2011-01-31 Thread Loren Hunt
Jim,
I think the issue is that the Submitted flags which were erroneously set a
few weeks ago have not been cleared.

So I go to ReportsAward FlagsClear submitted and I do this for mixed then
band then mode. So after doing all of this I do a ReportsListing and there
are still multiple S flags showing up. So the Clear Submitted doesn't seem
to be working.

If I manually go through and un-check the submitted flag then all is good (for
that QSO).

Re: [Dx4win] CW Keyboard

2011-01-27 Thread Loren Hunt
I have a similar problem using the MMTTY engine and the PSK/CW function. I'm
using an FT1000MP with a Microham USBII interface. By default I can't figure a
way to use them all on the same comm port. DX4WIN wants to own the port. What I
was doing was to launch MMTTY first and then DX4WIN (generating a COMM port in
use error). I did this whenever I used RTTY.

Since I don't use the CW keyboard I was only using the PSK PTT line. So I
shifted the CW/PSK interface to a non-connected comm port. Now the RTTY works
fine.

My thanks to all those who responded.your interest and assistance are much

I did finally manage to get the CW keyboard working.all I needed to do was
use the same comm port as that used by Ham Radio Deluxe (HRD) for PTT. That
won't be a problem, since HRD and DX4WIN's CW keyboard will not be running
simultaneously. (But I do have to shut down the computer after using the
keyboard to get the comm port released for HRD. No big deal.)

Thanks again. As usual, the responses were fast and pointed me right to the

running 1.11 and it doesn't show it. It does know about JT65. If you want to
submit it as JT65 you can do the following:

In TQSL Go to FilePreferencesADIF Modes
Select Add
Under ADIF Mode type JT65A, Under resulting TQSL mode select JT65.
By doing this all of your JT65A QSOs will be entered into LoTW as the base type
of JT65.

Version 1.13 might handle it directly. Don't know. I didn't know there was a
1.13 till this morning.

[Dx4win] Changing modes in the QSO window

2011-01-23 Thread Loren Hunt
If I want to log a PSK QSO how do I change the mode to PSK? The mode field in
the QSO window is on SSB and is grayed out. After I have logged it I can go
back and edit the QSO and then change the mode but who wants to do that?

Now if I click a PSK spot in the packet window it shows up in the log window
for a moment as PSK then switches to USB. Again, it is grayed out. Clearly it
is tracking the mode on the rig.

Must be a setting some place to override the mode field...

Re: [Dx4win] Changing modes in the QSO window

2011-01-23 Thread Loren Hunt
Mel,
Thanks. That did it. The mode field is no longer grayed out and I can change it.

Here is an interesting feature:
After I clicked ignore mode in Real-Time I clicked on a 17M PSK spot and the
rig went to CW. I hadn't set the CW cutoff on that band so I went to
preferences and adjusted the CW cutoff. I then clicked the spot again. This
time it went to SSB as expected but the SSB was grayed out in the QSO window
again. I double checked it, when you change your rig preferences it un-clicks
the ignore mode in Real-Time box. After re-clicking ignore mode in
Real-Time all is well. So the one resets the other.  Now I know...

Callsign exceptions are date-specific.  Did you originally try logging
VP8ORK on the DXpedition start date?  If you did, it should have come
up as VP8/O correctly.

[Dx4win] 30M spots jump to USB when clicked

In the DX Spot window:
When I double click a 30M spot my rig switches to USB. It doesn't matter how

Re: [Dx4win] 30M spots jump to USB when clicked

2011-01-16 Thread Loren Hunt
Well, I blindly followed some advise. I think some good some not good.

This was set wrong for 30M so I changed it:
Also, be sure that CW Frequency cutoff is accordingly for 30 meters and
all
other bands. This is located at FILE|PREFERENCE|QSO.

Unfortunately I also did this:
Just go to FILE|DATABASES|RADIOS|YAESU
FT1000MP|VALUES|MODEVALUES|CW|READ:2|WRITE:3|FILE|SAVE
 CHANGES AND EXIT.

Now when I double click on a spot the log field is correct but the radio
doesn't change. So I have broke the link for setting frequency on the rig. I
did not right the values down before changing them (what was I thinking). There
are 4 fields
Read 2, 255 and Write 3,255 in the CW field. Now the odd part is, this is all I
changed and now I no spots move the dial on the rig. I didn't mess with
anything in SSB and yet double click a SSB spot and no change at the rig.

Again,
8.04
FT1000MP.

Thanks for help.

[Dx4win] QSL label marking question

2011-01-11 Thread Loren Hunt
Now that I have my log all in DX4WIN8.04 I see there are many QSOs that I have
not sent for needed bands or modes. So I went to set the QSL flag but didn't
want to touch each field manually. I can't get things to work the way I would
expect by following the help screen but I did find a way.

When I try (as the help screen states) QSL -- Mark QSL it wants to select
every QSO in the log, confirmed or not. Yikes! it's a good thing I read the
dialog box carefully.

When I try Reports -- Mark For QSL it seams to work fine and mark only those
that are worked but not confirmed.

Do I have something set wrong, do I have some preference set wrong or is this a
bug?

Re: [Dx4win] QSL label marking question

2011-01-11 Thread Loren Hunt
Jim,
OK, that is how I thought it should work but it doesn't. I saved a backup log
so I can test.

On 80M I have 22 QSOs not marked for a label.
I do the following:
F8  - Select 80M and hit return. My logbook is only showing 80M QSO's
I then select: QSL -- Mark QSL -- band/mode. The dialog says mark up to 3775
QSO. I click OK and it marks 1756 of them. I would expect the number to be
around 22.

I then tried the same thing but this time selected:
I then select: QSL -- Mark QSL. The dialog says mark up to 3775 QSO. I click
OK and it marks 1551 of them this time.

S it looks like its marking every QSO that is not confirmed even if I have that
band slot confirmed with another call.

When I do the same thing under reports I get the 22 label flags set as expected.

In both cases I had the 80M filter set and in both cases it only flagged 80M
QSOs for Labels. So it looks like the one under QSL is when you want to send
everyone a card and the one under Reports is for for targeting new ones. This
is not what the programs help file states. So once again, I have figured out
how to do something but don't know if it is the correct way...

They do different things, as you have discovered.  You want the
function in the Reports menu.  That filters the QSOs to mark by that
award's needed list.

Use the first one if you already have a filter active, i.e. use F8 to
choose 40M and RTTY,  then QSL | Mark for QSL will set the label flags
for all QSOs on 40m RTTY only.

Re: [Dx4win] QSL label marking question

2011-01-11 Thread Loren Hunt
Bud,
No, that doesn't do it.

Specifically - Lets say I have USA confirmed on 80M/CW but I have worked 3500
USA stations on 80M/CW. Since I have the band/mode confirmed I don't want to
blanket send out QSL cards. Using QSL -- Mark --band/mode gets me all 3500! I
would have expected 0.
If I use the report generator I get the correct result of 0.

Now lets say I need Fiji on 80M/SSB and have worked Fiji 2 times on 80M/SSB and
have not sent cards. If I filter to just 3d2 80M/SSB the QSL--Mark--band/mode
they both get marked. If I have the same filter selected but use the report
generator I still get the same 2 calls marked.

So I can do what I want but the help menu lead me down the wrong path.

Loren,

If you set the filter for only unconfirmed QSOs, does that get you what you
want?

Hit F8 and then put an N in the CNFM box in the log entry window
(depending on whether you want to count LoTW and e-QSL, you may need to put
in 3 Ns).  Then hit Enter.  That will select only the unconfirmed QSOs and
you can mark them for QSL.

Re: [Dx4win] Working with LoTW

2011-01-08 Thread Loren Hunt
Charles,
New to the program but what I have been doing is pulling all my logs into
DX4WIN.
If you import an ADIF from a contest logger (or wherever) the LoTW flag is not
automatically set. If however you import into a new log you can set all QSOs
LoTW import flag. In the search window (F8) hit return with no call entered.
Your logbook will show all QSOs. Use the pulldown Menu for LoTW and select Set
LoTW upload flag. After that you can merge you files together with another
import. If your preferences are correct, any QSO entered in DX4WIN will set the
flag when your enter the QSO.

Once the LoTW flag is set the date field will be updated automatically when you
select Export for LoTW in the LoTW pulldown. You then get a popup asking if
you want to clear the flags. Select Yes and the date fields are updated as
the flags are cleared. A real nice feature.

Hope this helps,

I am running V8.04.

When I follow the instructions in the posted note, I find I have no

What do I do?

Hi Loren,

I don't know about altering the direction (ascending/descending) of the sort
but some keyboard shortcuts I use:

In the QSO window:
CTRL+HOME takes you to the FIRST qso
CTRL+END takes you to the last
PgUp takes you to previous QSO
PgDn takes you to the next QSO

In the LogBook window:

CTRL+HOME takes you to the FIRST qso
CTRL+END takes you to the last
PgUp takes you to the previous page (1st QSO on present page will be last QSO
on previous page)
PgDn takes you to the next page (last QSO on the current page will be the 1st
QSO on the next page)
UP/DOWN arrows move one QSO at a time

For more information, from the QSO window:
hit F1
type 'key' (short for keyboard)
to the right should be a small window with QSO Window
to the right of QSO window are a left and a right arrow.  Hit the right arrow

You can page through these windows to possibly discover things you don't know
:-)

When looking at -

Is there a way to reverse the field so the latest QSOs are at the top?
I figure it has to be here someplace, I just can't find it. So I log a QSO and

Re: [Dx4win] Log import problems

2011-01-01 Thread Loren Hunt
Alan,
You gave me a good clue and I had to try it. It is interesting that there are
many date formats in Excel and many in DX4WIN, but only a few that they both
have. I formatted the date to force MM/DD/YY to be 2 digits per field. The log
imported.

Next step - How do I merge 2 logs together? This should be easy compared to
what I just went through on the missing dates.

 I don't have a solution to your
problem but I see Jim AD1C replied and if he
can't figure it out no one can.
But I do have a question for you concerning Excel. At times
 I download a
DX4WIN report, such as DXCC or IOTA, to an Excel
 spreadsheet by right
clicking on the report and clicking WRITE TO FILE. This
 works FB for me
except how do you get leading zeros to appear in the time
 column. Example, I
worked someone at 0005 GMT but only a 5 shows up, 0045 GMT
 becomes 45 and
0655 becomes 655. If there are four digits in the time such
 as 1745 GMT then
the 1745 shows up FB. I am using Office 2007 ver. of MS
 Excel. If I remember
right I could easily add leading zeros OK when I used
 Office ver. 2003 but
can't figure it out for ver. 2007.
I have a suspicion that maybe the way some of your dates
 are seen by Excel
may be your problem. Also be sure you don't need to
 lengthen the width of
the date column on the Excel spreadsheet. If it is not wide
 enough you will
see instead of the date. You might stretch it open so
 the date will
fully fit in the column but when you close Excel maybe it
 doesn't save the
 change?  Good luck!

Re: [Dx4win] Log import problems - solved

2011-01-01 Thread Loren Hunt
Thanks for all the ideas. Problem solved and everything merged.

Now just the normal getting used to a new program.

 Alan,
You gave me a good clue and I had to try it. It is
interesting that there are many date formats in Excel and
many in DX4WIN, but only a few that they both have. I
formatted the date to force MM/DD/YY to be 2 digits per
 field. The log imported.

Next step - How do I merge 2 logs together? This should be
easy compared to what I just went through on the missing
 dates.

  I don't have a solution to your
problem but I see Jim AD1C replied and if he
can't figure it out no one can.
But I do have a question for you concerning Excel. At
 times
  I download a
DX4WIN report, such as DXCC or IOTA, to an Excel
  spreadsheet by right
clicking on the report and clicking WRITE TO FILE.
 This
  works FB for me
except how do you get leading zeros to appear in the
 time
  column. Example, I
worked someone at 0005 GMT but only a 5 shows up, 0045
 GMT
  becomes 45 and
0655 becomes 655. If there are four digits in the time
 such
  as 1745 GMT then
the 1745 shows up FB. I am using Office 2007 ver. of
 MS
  Excel. If I remember
right I could easily add leading zeros OK when I used
  Office ver. 2003 but
can't figure it out for ver. 2007.
I have a suspicion that maybe the way some of your
 dates
  are seen by Excel
may be your problem. Also be sure you don't need to
  lengthen the width of
the date column on the Excel spreadsheet. If it is not
 wide
  enough you will
see instead of the date. You might stretch it
 open so
  the date will
fully fit in the column but when you close Excel maybe
 it
  doesn't save the
  change?  Good luck!

  Hello,
I am new to DX4win and am trying to import a large
 chunk of
  my logs that are
in an excel spreadsheet format. I followed all the
 steps
  for the filter and
it took all 13,000 + QSOs but about 830 of them had a
 blank
  date field. I
cannot see anything different about the date for
 those
  fields.

I also tried first converting the logs to ADIF but
 have
  been unsuccessful in
my attempts at formula manipulation. A few examples on
 the
  web proved
frustrating as they expected custom macros.

   Any ideas?

  Thanks,
  AD6ZJ, Loren

[Dx4win] Logbook sort order

2011-01-01 Thread Loren Hunt
Still getting my feet wet.

When looking at -
Report:LogBook sorted by Date
Is there a way to reverse the field so the latest QSOs are at the top?
I figure it has to be here someplace, I just can't find it. So I log a QSO and
it goes instantly to the bottom of the log, then the guy comes back one more
time and I forgot his name (or call) and have to scroll to the bottom of the
log.

Thanks
