[Elecraft] Re Keyer dash squeeze override
You should take a look at N4YG keyer. I have two, for a K3 and a K2 and they work great, both from the keyboard and from paddles. I think from the paddles, this keyer will do what you want. I don't use the radio internal keyers at all. Both radios work just great. I think the keyer options in the N4YG set up menu will do what you want. Re: [Elecraft] Squeeze Keyer for K2, K3 ? Conclusion for now
All, Thanks for the leads and advice. I finally selected the K1EL K12-battery keyer. http://k1el.tripod.com/K12.html for a modest $17. From the datasheet, it appears to have not only ultimatic, but dah-override. When I get it built, I'll find out for sure how it'll work for me. Stay tuned ... I'll post the final results in a few weeks. Cheers, Alan Alan D. Wilcox, W3DVX (K2-5373, K3-40) 570-321-1516 http://WilcoxEngineering.com Williamsport, PA 17701 Alan D. Always squeeze _both_ keys for dashes; if I was a bit late getting the dash paddle closed, the logic turned the dot into a dash (as long as the dot hadn't finished, of course.) 2. If dots followed dashes, just simply let loose of the right paddle. 3. A string of dots would turn into dashes simply by squeezing both paddles together. I could send good CW at fairly-respectable speeds, and was happy. For decades ... until I got the K2 and the K3. Then I tried to get the hang of iambic keying, and the best I can do is slap-keying or stagger along at 10 wpm or slower iambic. Questions: 1. Is there a way to kludge the K2 or K3 keying logic for squeeze keying? 2. Does anyone make a keyer with my logic? WHO? All I've ever seen are iambic. 3. If neither, and I wind up building my new keyer myself, is this something anybody else would want? Re: [Elecraft] P3 - Whatever Happened to...
Tom, You must have missed the answer to that question that I posted 3 days ago. I am repeating it here FYI. The P3 can indeed be used with the K2, but the K2 needs a buffer amplifier to isolate the IF output. Take a look at Jack Smith's Z1B buffer amp at http://www.cliftonlaboratories.com/current_products.htm. He has a version especially for the K2. 73, Don W3FPR Tom Boag wrote: Haven't heard anything re the P3 lately. Was thinking about buying for myself last Christmas but was delayed. [Elecraft] 80 Transmit on KX1
I installed the KXB3080 option in my KX1 a couple months ago and everything checked out OK after completion, including output on 80 meters. Now however, I am getting no output at all on 80 meters. I am still getting 5 volts output at point F, and current draw of the KX1 increases by around 15ma when I select 80 meters, so it looks like the K1 relay is switching as it should. I get the same symptoms whether the KXAT1 ATU is installed or removed and replaced with a jumper. I put a signal generator at the antenna connector and can trace a signal through the RF section in any of the band positions but in 80 meters, I get no signal at all, even at the J7 jumper. I'm thinking when I switch to 80 meters and the K1 relay switches, it's introducing a short somewhere on the KXB3080 board or possibly on the LPF1 board but I haven't been able to find it. Has anyone else had this problem or have any ideas? Re: [Elecraft] 80 Transmit on KX1
Bill, My bet would be on a poorly tinned toroid lead either on L1 or L2 on the LPF board. The red winding is only used on 80 meters, and the relay shorts out the red winding on the other bands. Look very carefully at the back of the LPF board - if you see any trace of red enamel, that is the problem. Another check is to see if you have continuity between the BNC jack center and where the green wire of L1 connects to the board. You will have to check with power on and the KX1 set to 80 meters since the relay on the LPF board is not a latching type. 73, Don W3FPR Bill Trettin wrote: I installed the KXB3080 option in my KX1 a couple months ago and everything checked out OK after completion, including output on 80 meters. [Elecraft] AFSK - K3 - SignaLink USB
Ladies and Gentlemen I just got my K3 back from Aptos. I had some issues with the unit that were repaired and all the mods were put into place. Things have changed for my AFSK setup and wonder if others are seeing this. I am now having to drive the SignaLink USB full TX to get any ALC indication on the K3. In addition, my LINE level is now at 58 and it just goes to 60. Now, I am driving the K3 with the SignaLink USB through the LINE IN jack in the back and of course the audio is coming out of the LINE OUT. All seems to be working (even had an RTTY contact today), but it the change has been that I have to drive the K3 harder than I did before. Before, I used LINE OUT at around 45 and the SignaLink was at the 2 o'clock position. Is this what others are seeing with the newer models of the K3? Mine was upgraded to current production level. I have read most of the manual, but can't seem to find an menu where it lets you set any more gain for LINE IN. Lee - K0WA Ham Radio Operators: Kansas QSO Party is August 28-29, 2010. Re: [Elecraft] AFSK - K3 - SignaLink USB
Lee... I have a fully fleshed-out K3 that I use with a SignaLink USB. The K3 is about 3 months old and was factory-built. I am running off a Dell XPS-420 (WIN 7 Ultimate (32 bit)) and FLDIGI 3.12.5 -- with this set-up, I run the TX pot about 9 O'Clock, the RX pot at noon, and my line level is 15. The K3 wattage is set for 100 watts, and this list of settings produces about 30-35 watts out on a Bird 43 on 20 meters in PSK31 (when idling). I crank things up a bit when I run RTTY. It seems to me that you are having to push things awfully hard on your set-up, but I don't know what to suggest... Lee, As far as I know, none of the K3 mods chanded the Line-in on the K3. [Elecraft] K2 :: simply amazing service from Elecraft
At Field Day on Saturday 26 June, around 1800 local EDT, my K2 #771 took what appears to have been an induced voltage spike from the connected antenna. I brought the rig home at 11:30PM and diagnosed the problem, and replaced two of the three parts that were zapped in the KAT2. My K1 assumed air duty after it was determined the K2 wasn't going to complete this year's event. On Monday morning 28 June around 1030 local I placed an order (for the remaining damaged part) on the Elecraft web page, with an order acknowledgment coming via e-mail from Lisa just a short time later. Being in no big hurry, I selected conventional parcel-post shipping. Today, Wednesday 30 June, around 1230 local, the mailman delivered the parts to my home. No kidding. Roughly 50 hours elapsed time, enter key to mailbox, Watsonville CA to Chapel Hill NC ... 2,763 miles. Bravo to Elecraft, and to the USPS. Re: [Elecraft] AFSK - K3 - SignaLink USB
I went back through the installation of the SignaLink USB again. I increased the drive from the computer to the device using the mixer panel program in Windows XP. It was set as per the instructions, but I tweak it up a couple of notches and it seems to drive a whole not better now. I get plenty of drive to the audio where I am running 45 on LINE IN and about t2 o'clock on the SignaLink USB. H. Thanks for all the help guys. [Elecraft] Service By Elecraft - 2nd the motion
We do live in amazing times. I sent my K3 off to have it repaired and modified. The work done was excellent by Dale Farmer and the K3 came out of Aptos with the old serial number but a new radio. The trouble was an encoder had quit working and that cause half the buttons to quit too. But, I had all the mods put in and the new DSP board. It took awhile to get it on the bench, but once it is there, Dale did a great job of working on my K3. They even packed it in a better box and shipped it straight away. Cost me a little, but it was well worth it. That you Elecraft Lee - K0WA Ham Radio Operators: Kansas QSO Party is August 28-29, 2010. Re: [Elecraft] K2 Initial Tests
After installing the tilt bail and replacing D5 (that I installed backwards) on the front panel board, my K2 passed all Part 1 tests so now I am on to Part 2. Thanks to the group and especially Don for all the advice. I was not able to save the diode during removal, mainly because it was too near the knobs and switches and I have already melted and replaced one of each. I ended up cutting the diode leads on top and just desoldering the leads from the bottom. I ordered a replacement diode but I was hoping that the same diode was used elsewhere on the K2 or accessories and I could 'borrow' one until the replacement came. No such luck as it is not used anywhere else on the K2. I will just have to wait unitl the part arrives but I feel pretty confident that D5 was the cause of my troubles. Thanks again! Lee I had an issue with the signalink were somehow the mixer settings got changed. I called the Signalink folks and they advised the VOL and the WAV settings should be set to max. 73 Greg On 6/30/2010 7:08 PM, Lee Buller wrote: I went back through the installation of the SignaLink USB again. Re: [Elecraft] AFSK - K3 - SignaLink USB
If you look at the schematic of the SignaLink, you'll see that it is redundant to what is already built into the K3. In addition, the K3 has a stereo audio out interface, facilitating the use of software for AFSK that recognizes dual RX for split frequency DX chasing. http://www.tigertronics.com/sl_mods.htm 73 - Steve WB6RSE __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
