[Elecraft] K3 Noise Blanker problem?
Hello all..This AM on 160 meters there was a station CQing on 1.820.6 with a fundamental freq signal strength of S9 on my K3. I also found (with the NB on) that I could hear him Q5 but very weak on 1.810.6 and the same S 0 reading but perfectly Q5 on 1.830.6. I turned the noise blanker off and of course the images disappeared. Is this a know problem when using the NB or is this just with my radio after a recent factory alignment? I have had a K3 for years and never noticed anything like that before but then again this AM was very quiet on 160M and I had the NB on because I could hear a distant tick tick of an electric fence. __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com
[Elecraft] K3 NB problem
I discovered the source of a “noise” I was complaining about on 80M cw this AM. I finally noticed that it would always come on at exactly the time VK9WA said “UP”!! and varied in intensity and duration until he answered someone..at which time the noise was gone and S meter returned to S1!!Seems like the NB settings on the K3 are causing IMD and phase noise from the pileup up the Band a bit to sound like rain static and jump to a level of S5-6 on the K3 meter! Never ran into that before with a K3... Then again, except for this new electric fence pulse, I never needed to use the NB for anything at this previously dead quiet location.Any ideas on what settings I should use or try for this electric fence noise? Possibly the settings that I am using are too aggressive and would cause this? Re: [Elecraft] K3/0 and RTTY
I should also mention we are using Fiber to the home for Inet here and 10MB DSL link at the remote Typical ping times are 50MS range and Latency range is usually 10-20 range and Jitter 0-4 range usually 0 as it was a moment ago when tested. Not sure why RTTY decode is a problem using the setup mentioned in the manual. __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com

Got the CONFIG: SYNC DT off finally...Thanks so much. RX Signal levels on RTTY are S9+..still gibberish decode over the Remote system? -Original Message- From: Wayne Burdick Sent: Sunday, February 08, 2015 2:43 PM To: Larry - K1UO Cc: Elecraft Reflector Subject: Re: [Elecraft] K3/0 and RTTY Both RTTY and CW decode should work remotely. Use a narrow filter passband tune the signal in carefully using the CWT meter scale (pgs. 33 and 34 of the owner's manual). Decode accuracy is affected by noise, fading, and interference, but should work as long as the signal is correctly tuned in and has a high enough S/N ratio. CW decode is more difficult in the presence of noise and sloppy timing. If you see the "-S" icon on the LCD, you are in "sync-data" mode, which is typically used for AMTOR or PACTOR (pg. 32). These modes require faster turn-around times, which the K3 facilitates by not switching crystal filters between transmit and receive. The only way to get the K3 into sync-data mode is to assign the CONFIG:SYNC DT menu entry to a programmable function switch. You may have done this accidentally. To get it back out of this mode, temporarily assign this menu entry to a programmable switch, exit the menu, then press that switch. This should turn off the -S. 73, Wayne N6KR On Feb 8, 2015, at 11:31 AM, "Larry - K1UO" wrote: I have a K3/0 and remote K3 setup using the RemoteRig boxes from Elecraft. SSB/CW is fine. [Elecraft] Change in the P3 noise floor
A question for you "Tekkies". Today, for the first time I can recall, I widened the P3 span to the full 200K bandwidth display. While listening on aux receive antennas for 160 meters, I could see a half moon shaped noise floor that started gradually rising from S0 at about 1.775Mhz, peaking around S3 at about 1.830 and slowly declining again until back to S0 level at around 1.875Mhz (A nice even arc of noise). Would this be noise from my series fed 115ft top loaded 160/80M xmit tower that I am seeing? I have a vacuum relay that disconnects the feed /radials from the tower when receiving and I didnt see much if any difference when switching the relay in and out manually. curious now as to what I am seeing. [Elecraft] [K3] Is there a KRC3 in the works?
I believe a KRC-3 Band decoder than is fully compatible with the K3 is now in order? :-) Its getting so that half the available Band decoders (or more)do not support 6M or even 60 meters for that matter and those that do lack provision for manual band selection so if something happens with the pc or serial port one cannot even change antennas. The software and documentation seem to have not fully caught up to use the KRC2 with a K3 and various remote relay switch boxes. Re: [Elecraft] LP Pan versus P3 Panadapters
Hi Alan, Ill admit I didnt try a narrower span and I normally use the +-15Khz setting (30Khz span) on the 160 meter cw band. Ill try narrowing it up and see if it picks up the very weak signals but I dont want to operate on a too narrow span or, as they say, it becomes much less useful to me. 73 Larry "However the carrier is clearly visible on the waterfall if I set the P3 span to 2 kHz. As I increase the span the signal gradually gets harder and harder to see. Above about 30 kHz or so the signal disappears into the noise. So that's the trick. Narrow the span to make those signals pop out of the noise. For some reason I was expecting the P3 to show these very weak signals better than I could find them myself while tuning but no amount of adjustment so far will do this. I may be expecting too much? Just so you know what anothers experience has been so far. 73 I too would like to see details of the improvement over LPan etc. I am a long time user of SDR/computer panadapters for use in detecting very weak signals at UHF/VHF/microwave. I use a Softrock on the K3 IF port since I got my K3 a year ago. I have yet to see one report regarding weak sig detection with the P3 after many requests to the initial testers of the P3. ANYONE out there looking for weak weak sigs with a P3?? 73 Bill K0AWU EN37ed -- View this message in context: http://elecraft.365791.n2.nabble.com/LP-Pan-versus-P3-Panadapters-tp5528469p5530182.html Sent from the Elecraft mailing list archive at Nabble.com. __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

Re: [Elecraft] [K3] K3 and SPE Expert AMP
Doug, If you already have remote antenna switching, I would use the K3 bcd data to do the antenna switching prior to the amplifier rf sensing the band. this would prevent transmitting into a wrong antenna...unless, of course, you plan on using the built in antenna switch of the SPE then I would rely on the K3 band data provided to the amp rather than rf sensing. 73 and good luck Larry K1UO I am considering the Expert amplifier because of instant turnon, smaller size and reduced weight. Does the Expert amplifier require a tie in to the transceiver other than RF input and key out to determine which frequency to tune to? The ACOM 2000A does this automatically sensing the frequency from the RF Input and there is not need for an interveing PC. Is it the case that the Expert amplifier needs a separate input defining the operating frequency and band? -- View this message in context: http://n2.nabble.com/K3-and-SPE-Expert-AMP-tp4281796p4285441.html Sent from the [K3] mailing list archive at Nabble.com. __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

Re: [Elecraft] Printoing Manuals...
I'm surprised that no-one else seems to have run into "copyright" problems when trying to have electronic manuals hard copied and bound. I'm having that problem with Staples with the manual for my LP-100A wattmeter! e-mailed Larry, "LP", for permission to get copied and will see how that flies. Re: [Elecraft] Portable Antennae
While I await my K3 (sometime in June) I would like to construct a good portable antennae to use while camping (RV camping). If it is a dipole it will need to be short enough to fit in the footprint of a campsite. Any recommendations.maybe even for a vertical? 73 & God Bless! Ken/NO4D Ken, Take a look at either the "End Fedz" or "Buddi Pole" portable antennas. Possibly one of those may suit your needs. Re: [Elecraft] Shipping Status 21/01/08
Also of note on the shipping update page is this reference regarding prior prepaid orders... "In any case, this crossover point will occur by the end of this week's shipments, 1/25. After 1/25 we will ship all remaining orders in the order they were received. Production is continuous from this point on." Re: [Elecraft] Which Heil Prosets should we carry?
My vote would be for the Proset with H4 element for Contesting/DXing use. Second would be the Proset Plus what contains both the HC4/HC5 elements but is a bit heavier and more tiring to wear for long periods. (consider the Heil footswitch also!) Most of all thanks for asking. 73, Larry K1UO -- View this message in context: http://www.nabble.com/Which-Heil-Prosets-should-we-carry--tp14521217p14525106.html Sent from the Elecraft mailing list archive at Nabble.com. ___ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list. [Elecraft] OT: Source for fiberglass bulkhead cabinet
Can someone tell me where to get a 12X12 X5" fiberglass bulkhead cabinet for mounting to the outside wall for bringing in coax, cables etc and possibly has a copper or aluminum plate for mounting lightening protection devices just before entering the shack wall? Apparently I'm not using the correct search parameters. Is there such a beast made specifically for Ham radio type applications?
