[Elecraft] K3 Mini
Does anyone have a K3 mini that they would be willing to sell for a reasonable price? (or trade for a KAT500?) Please reply directly to my QRZ.com address. [Elecraft] K3 Mini - Loss of bias - side mic jack
It appears I have lost the bias supply going to the side Mic jack on my K3 Mini. There is no bias voltage on the tip of a test cable. However there is 4.7-4.8 volts appearing on pin 6 of the 8 pin front panel mic connector. I note that turning on the Mini from a cold start I see 3.8vdc on the tip of the test cable but it only lasts for a few seconds and very quickly decays to zero. The Menu setting rP.L bIAS is configured and turning the bias off/on by tapping 2 does not effect the volatge 4.7 on pin 6 . It is always on. What do I do.? I am not thrilled about taking the Mini apart as I have ZERO technical information about how to dissaasemble it. Nor do I have a schematic to help ID where the fault may be. I have an outboard bias box that came with my CM500 so I guess I can use that in a pinch. Any comments? 73 Frannk VO1HP -- Sent from Gmail Mobile __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com

[Elecraft] K3 Mini
I am running my K3 Mini to my K3S via wireless. I am running into a strange issue. Every time I go into CW mode I am getting a ringing noise. I can get rid of the noise by changing the RF Gain. The thing I am wondering about is I am not hearing any CW signals on 20m, 40m or 80m. I am just wondering if there is something I have set wrong. I am also wondering if the RF Gain is set properly. I know this question is a little vague but I am in the last stages of getting this remote setup working well. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. [Elecraft] K3 Mini Term Mode
I am remoteing with the Remote Rig twins, K3 Mini to my K3 at home. Has been working good till all of a sudden. What happens is when I turn on the Mini, it goes into the Term mode as normal and I can hear stuff from the K3 at home BUT the Mini won't control the K3. The display is stuck on it's boot-up screen and the knobs does nothing, no control. I think the K3 hasn't shut off at home nor can I shut it off with no control from here. I have it hooked to a PC at home and a laptop here. Connecting with Teamviewer works well. Jim, This involves primarily configuring the radio side router to forward the correct UDP ports. It must be thoroughly tested before leaving the radio site on its own. I have a checklist setup that walks you through this process and will forward it to you now in a separate mail. 73, Mitch DJ0QN / K7DX Mitch Wolfson DJØQN / K7DX 10285 Boca Cir, Naples, FL 34109 Skype: mitchwo USA: Home:+1-239-221-9600 - Mobile:+1-424-288-9171 Germany: Home:+49 89 32152700 - Mobile:+49 172 8374436 On 29.10.2016 17:44, Jim Cary wrote: John/Barry Thanks for the quick responses. Re: [Elecraft] K3 Mini Error question
Jim, it's just an error report that there's no connection to the remote side. All fine as your remote is not connected yet. ;-) SIP is the Session Initiation Protocol, basically the standard to initiate a digital phone contact (the RRC's are using exactly that, an VoIP connection). 73, Olli - DH8BQA (SOSB10 in CQWW thus time to answer, hihi) Contest, DX & radio projects: http://www.dh8bqa.de Am 29.10.2016 um 23:26 schrieb Jim Cary: I just packed up both my control and remote systems and moved them down to my ZF QTH, where they will be permanent. Re: [Elecraft] K3 Mini Error question
Jim: If the K3-Mini is powered up through RRC but the ’target’ K3/K3S is not powered up and online, you’ll get a warning signal. This means that the mini is not ’seeing’ the host transceiver. Power up the K3/K3S and see if that doesn’t resolve the issue. If you’re still having issues, then check your cables for proper connection and that you indeed have internet between the K3-Mini site and the K3/K3S. [Elecraft] K3/Mini
I just bought a used K3/mini to use with my remote base K3. I've been using my home K3 to control the remote base. I needed the separate control, as K8AJ, who I share the hack with, would like to have her "own" rig. Anyway, for anyone who has a K3/mini, when you power it up, and it is not plugged into anything, does it act like it is looped, and all the knobs seem to work, and the VFO's etc move? Or does it act like a K3 in the remote mode, but with out a RS-232 connection, and just sit there? He should also check out remotehamradio.com Bill N2WL __ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:Elecraft@mailman.qth.net This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com
[Elecraft] K3/Mini 0
Got my new K3 Mini 0 today. Since I didn't order the cable, I made one to take the DB15 to the TTL only. I'm using existing cables that I had already made to connect the Remote Rig box to a keyer, microphone, and PTT footswitch, and the Mini works fine with my Remote station. When it arrived, I checked and I thought it was on firmware 4.83, which means I needed to upgrade the firmware but I'm not sure how to connect the Mini to the computer to get the upgrade. I tried the USB cable, and it created two comports, but the K3 Utility doesn't see the Mini when I attempt to use either of the Comports. I had already hooked up an RS232 cable to the Remote Rig Control box at Com1, and N1MM Logger software is happily communicating with the Mini, but again, the K3 Utility 1.13.5.9 doesn't see the Mini using that comport. I know the firmware updating recommendation is not to do it through another piece of equipment, but if the K3 Utility doesn't even see the Mini its not an option. So, how do I update the firmware? Since I went through this, I unplugged the TTL cable from the RR box, and now the Mini shows me the actual firmware that it has installed is 4.86, so no upgrade is currently needed, but I will probably need to update it sometime in the future. I was quite disappointed in the manual, particularly in what it didn't cover. I already have a working remote station, so I don't need all the diagrams that show how to hook up a remote station using the RR boxes. I do need more information on the Mini itself. On the left side there are 3.5mm connectors for Spkrs and Mic; are those stereo or mono jacks? The Mic connector- would that be selectable in the firmware as the RPL, and the front 8-pin connector the FPL? On the right side, we have the USB port and the DC in. Both self-explanatory, given that cables are supplied for those two. On the back, we have key, paddle, and ptt jacks. Are these stereo or mono jacks? If I had the cabling from the DB 15 to the Aux/Mic and the I/O inputs on the Remote Rig, could I then connect the computer keying to key, my paddle to paddle, and a footswitch to the PTT, and the connections would then be passed on to the Remote Rig box? Is there any way to CW key the Mini by sending CW on the DTR line and PTT on the RTS line, via N1MM? I've played with this for a little while, but haven't found a solution yet. Thanks for assistance with any of the above matters. But my first thought when I saw it was, Wow! A KX3 RF board with the full K3 Front Panel would ROCK! :). -kb7psg On Sun, 23 Feb 2014, Bruce Beford wrote: And now might be a good time to remind folks that the K3/0 mini is not a radio by itself... Re: [Elecraft] K3 mini ?
I'm pretty late to the K3 game due to a decade or so focusing on other things than ham radio. I thought I knew that the K3/0 had to do with remote control and took the first message with subject K3/0 Mini to refer to a mini K3/0. The earlier ones on the K3 Mini were a bit confusing. Thanks for the clarification! 73, Phil w7ox (K1 #18, K2 #380, K3 #8004) On 2/23/14, 8:03 AM, Bruce Beford wrote: And now might be a good time to remind folks that the K3/0 mini is not a radio by itself... Re: [Elecraft] K3 Mini plug/jack mis-contact
Aki, There should be no difference in the various mini-plugs as long as they are the 3.5mm type. If you are using a 2.5mm, it might work for a while, but will be loose in the jack and will not make good contact. If you do have a 3.5mm plug and it is loosing contact, check to be certain the jacks protrude through the rear panel sufficiently. If the KIO3 module is not properly seated, the jacks will be recessed and will cause the problem you seem to be having. 73, Don W3FPR a.yoshida wrote: I sometimes find that mini plug/jack on the back panel makes mis-contact. Re: [Elecraft] K3 Mini plug/jack mis-contact
I am having some of the usual dirty contact issues with the 3.5 mm plugsreaching back and twisting the plug in the socket restores normal operation. I've seen this (as I a msure everyone else has) on lots of plugs with nickel (?) plating since that became the rage. Makes me long for the days of silver-plated everything..oh well.
