Perhaps the point of my original post has been missed. The only way I could get RF out of the K3s was to assign the K3s codec as my default in the sound settings. If I did not do this in the windows sound control panel, the K3s would go into transmit mode with WSJT-x but zero output. Doing this allowed computer sounds to be transmitted with WSJT-X, maybe with AFSK. Yes, in the WSJT-X software I always had the K3s codec checked. Until I made this change in the windows app volume and device properties page 2 days ago, that was the only way I could transmit with WSJT-X. I cannot be the only person with this issue. This is not a trivial issue, we all want our signals to be clean and for months I had no idea I was occasionally transmitting garbage with my K3s. So what happens if you don't run Win4K3Suite? I run WSJT-X and nothing else and have NO issues with audio, control, or Windows sound. I find that WSJT-X handles everything that is needed, radio control, audio control, and logging. This type of discussion makes me wonder if folks are feeding audio
direct from the computer to the Line IN on the rear or to the MIC
input. If they are using an external soundcard, i.e. Signalink or such,
then I can understand Windows sounds being heard. Not good.
If they are using the USB mode {and not a DATA mode, with the Menu item
MIC + LINE set to ON, thus anything picked up by the mike is also
transmitted along with WSJT-X data.
It would do well to carefully listen to your MON with headphones to see
what exactly is being transmitted. Correctly configured, only the
WSJT-X data is transmitted..and as it should be.

Thanks Bill, I always turn off windows sounds, they bother me when I'm concentrating on something. This issue deals with the stereo/mono audio as from youtube or some web page with streaming music/sounds that happened to be running. I couldn't hear the music/talk/noise from the computer and that got transmitted when I would transmit with WSJT-X, maybe with AFSK as well. I always hear people's audio, words on WSJT, I must have been doing that too, I just couldn't hear it as I use a bluetooth dongle for listening to the computer & pull the dongle when I'm not listening to it. Bob, The K3s did go into transmit, there was no signal being generated. Peter, VK4JD had the correct answer to this thing that has been eluding me. His reply here yesterday was the solution and involved a win 10 page I have never encountered before. It took some looking but I found the page in windows setup he was thinking of & sure enough, in windows 10, there is an option for WSJT-X and sound. He said he doesn't use WSJT-X but he knew exactly what the problem was. Clever fellow. Yes CAT can be somewhat confusing IFyou are running multiple applications at the same time. Otherwise, I use CAT for: WSJT-X, FLDIGI, HRD/DM780, MMTTY and have zero issues with any of the applications or levels or commands. And all were easy to configure and are reliable. When I load and open the application, the radio follows just as one would expect. That is why I've begged several times for a firmware change to make VOX gain saved per mode. I do use VOX on RTTY and SSB and with a lot of fussing with soundcard levels have it more-or-less set so all modes use about the same VOX gain. Peter, Absolutely brilliant! I never have seen this windows page or read about it, but it absolutely did the trick. I now have an alternate soundcard selected in windows sound control panel and have WSJT-X configured in App volume and device preferences. I have to experiment to be sure nothing gets out sound-wise from the computer but at first exposure, this looks to be dead on. How many others have not yet discovered this! 73! G'day Gary, This should work : Run WSJT-X Go to the system settings via the cog in the start menu. Click on "System (Display, sound, notifications") Click on "Sound" Scroll down to "Other sound options" and click on "App volume and device preferences". Select WSJT-X from the list of displayed apps and select your USB CODEC for both input and output. Note that I don't use WSJT-X but that's how it's done for everything else.
