[Elecraft] Firmware Update Failure ?

2021-06-20 Thread Larry Shapiro

Happy Father's day all !

I was updating the firmware today on a good working K3.
I have done this many times without any issues.
This time, while it was updating to 5.67,it failed about 90% through.
A box came on saying to close the window on the k3 Utility program.
I did this, and was going to start over and try again.
The radio was frozen, and on the screen it said MCU LD

The screen turned pretty dark, and I was not able to turn the radio off.
I had to unplug it to turn it off.
I plugged it back in,and turned it on again, and now the Transmit LED was
blinking on and off.

The power switch still will not turn off the radio.
Only unplugging it turned it off.
I tried it about 5 times, and same thing.
I hope this is simple ?
Thanks in advance for any help,
Larry k6ro

The command is useful for displaying the ALC level when you are using the radio

Re: [Elecraft] Firmware Update TM Command

2018-04-02 Thread David Box

Bob

This is a macro command so does not appear in the config or menu.  Take
a look at page 27 of the Programmer Ref.  You can use the command tester
in the Utility to try it out.

Just for reference here is the Programmer Manual reference

TM (Transmit Meter Mode; GET/SET; K3/K3S only)
RSP format:  TM0;  (SWR/RF metering) or TM1;  (CMP/ALC metering). This
sets the transmit meter mode for
the LCD bargraphs, as well as for the BG command (equivalent to using
the METER switch). When TM0 is in
effect, BG returns the RF level. When TM1 is in effect, BG returns the
ALC level.

metering mode on the LCD. TM0; sets the bar graph for SWR/RF, while
TM1; sets the bar graph for CMP/ALC. The TX metering mode also
determines what is read by the BG (bar graph read) command during
transmit. With TM0 in effect, BG reads the power level. If TM1 is in
effect, BG reads the ALC level.

[Elecraft] Firmware update problem

2016-07-16 Thread Dick Lindzen
I had not updated the firmware on my K3 in a while, so I went to the Elecraft

download it to the K3. I have suddenly lost the 100 w amp in the K3, and I can

[Elecraft] Firmware update question

2014-04-16 Thread Tim Cook
During a recent firmware update of a new (to me) K3/100, I noticed a brief
message scroll across the screen indicating a PA Error. If I recall correctly
it occurred during the DSP update. I rarely look at the computer or radio when
updating an Elecraft product until it's completed because it is always so
reliable and seamless.

For some reason this just caught my eye. Now, after the update completed
everything is working fine no problems that I can detect.

I am just curious if this was an indication of a problem of some kind or just
an inconsequential indication of some sort during updating.

Thanks
Tim

Elecraft site says

Current K3 Firmware Revisions

MCU 4.60 / DSP 2.80, 11/17/2012

Why does it not display when I click check versions now?

Fred,

The files that are displayed are those in your computer - in the folder
identified in the folder bar in K3 Utility.
If you click Copy New Files from Elecraft, the latest release version
will be downloaded into that identified folder on your computer.
Once that has happened, you should see the new files listed. You should
normally load All Firmware to the K3, rather than the Load New selection.

[Elecraft] Firmware update process stalled K3

2012-02-26 Thread Axel Kaiser

I wanted to install the latest firmware beta release (4.47).
The process started, on the K3 display MCU LD appeared, but after a while the
message appeared, that the update failed.
The K3 stayed in the MCU LD mode and the K3 utility showed that there is a
communication problem with the COM port.
Trying to reactivate the COM communication failed with all possible COM ports
my ELTIMA virtual port cable creates.
Turning the K3 on and off didn't change anything, the MCU LD mode stays on.
Also reinitializing the ports by turning the computer off and on again didn't
change a thing, I could not get the COM port communication started again.

Does anybody have an idea how to get back to normal without starting the EE
INIT procedure (loosing all parameters)?

Thanks in advance for your help!!

The K3 stayed in the MCU LD mode and the K3 utility showed that there is a
communication problem with the COM port.
Trying to reactivate the COM communication failed with all possible COM
ports my ELTIMA virtual port cable creates.
Turning the K3 on and off didn't change anything, the MCU LD mode stays on.
Also reinitializing the ports by turning the computer off and on again
didn't change a thing, I could not get the COM port communication started
 again.

Does anybody have an idea how to get back to normal without starting the EE
 INIT procedure (loosing all parameters)?

Thanks in advance for your help!!

[Elecraft] Firmware Update Crash!

2009-12-12 Thread John Huffman
I attempted to update my K3 to version 3.68 and now my K3 no longer works.

It was working fine. I updated to version 3.67 yesterday. I tuned the
radio on just now. It was working fine. I downloaded and extracted
version 3.68. I opened the K3 Utility. The utility read the K3's
firmware and saw that the 3.67 MCU file was newer. I clicked on Send
all new firmware to K3.

The K3 screen said something like MD D. The utility said something like
D didn't echo, remove power. I couldn't turn the K3 off, so I removed
power. I reconnected power and turned on the K3. Now the red TX led
flashes slowly and I can't turn off the K3 without removing power.

Now what???

No joy. I did as the Utility Help said, but after the 10second start
it goes back to the red TX led flashing and the screen is dark.

I took out the KIO3 thinking that something was in transmit mode.
Again, no joy, same symptoms.

I can't even get a screen display. I'm holding off taking out the KPA3

This is very frustrating, but I appreciate your suggestion

Re: [Elecraft] Firmware Update Crash!

2009-12-12 Thread Don Wilhelm
John,

The blinking TX LED and screen with backlight off is exactly the
condition that you are looking for. Go on to the next step and Test
Communications between K3Utility and the K3. If that is successful,
start the firmware download. If the communications test fails, check
the serial port and serial cable (or USB to serial adapter), or try
another computer, preferrably with a real serial port.

I quote from the K3Utility Help file:

* Press and hold the K3 Power button for about 10 seconds until the
red TX LED under the Power button begins to blink and MCU LD
appears in the LCD display. The LCD back light may be off.
* Click Test Communications on the Port page. You should see a
status message indicating that the K3 is ready for MCU firmware
load and is communicating at 38,400 bps.

[Elecraft] Firmware Update DSP 1 Problem

2008-10-21 Thread g4mkp
Can you please help?

It never rainsI have downloaded the latest FW from the server as
follows:

MCU 2.22

FPF 0.02

DSP1 1.88

DSP2 0.188 (don't have the second rx so this is redundant I think.

Having completed the update to the K3 (Send all new firmware to K3) the
utility informs me that DSP 1 load failed. The rig is displaying the
following error:

E 000C0C

ERR DSE

I understand that this error indicates a failure of DSP 1 which correlates
to the utility message.

Problem now is the utility reports that the K3 is not responding. I have
just gone past the cold sweat stage and I'm off to make a cup of tea.

Cheers,

Terry

Terry,

That is NOT the latest firmware - you want MCU 2.46 / DSP 1.92. I don't
know if that will solve your problem or not, but there release notes
include:

MCU 2.37 / DSP 1.90, 9-2-2008

* FIRMWARE UPGRADE PROCESS IMPROVEMENT: When upgrading firmware,
MCU and DSP code versions may temporarily become incompatible,
resulting in error messages during loads. These spurious errors are
now suppressed, resulting in a cleaner upgrade process, especially
when upgrading from much older revisions.

RE: [Elecraft] firmware update

2008-01-30 Thread Dick Dievendorff
Thanks! I like to hear a few success stories...

Available means that the firmware file exists on your PC. Installed in
K3 means the firmware currently in the radio.. Download is ambiguous.
There's one download from the Elecraft FTP site into the Firmware folder
of your Personal Computer. Then there's a download of files from your PC
into the K3. Because of this ambiguity, I tried to avoid the use of
download in all the K3 Utility's messages and Help text. Instead I say
copy files from Elecraft to your PC and Send files to K3 to distinguish
between the two download operations.

The K3 Utility should have copied the DSP2 code file from the Elecraft FTP
server to your Firmware Folder. I just tested it, and I got a copy of
HAUX0137.hex copied into my Firmware Folder when I clicked Check Versions
with Copy files from Elecraft selected.

However, this file is for the DSP within the KRX3 second receiver option
(DSP2). If you don't have the KRX3 option installed (and enabled, through
the CONFIG:KRX3 menu selection) then it can't be successfully installed
(sent to the radio). The KRX3 isn't yet released, but the K3 Utility is
being used by firmware developers to send firmware to a separate DSP board
for the 2nd receiver.

The KRX3 is more than just the DSP2, so they're not identical. The DSP2
(sometimes called the aux DSP) is a board that installs between the main
receiver's DSP board and the front panel board. The KRX3 2nd receiver
option consists of the AUX DSP board plus another board (or boards) that
carry the RF components (and a place to plug in filters).

In the K3 Utility Help text (which I recently beefed up a bunch, there's a
new K3 Utility version just published a few minutes ago), I mention in a
couple of places that DSP2 is for the optional KRX3 second receiver.

[Elecraft] firmware update?

2006-01-30 Thread ON4WIX
Hi all,

I'm new to this list and looking into building my own K2.
This evening I was browsing the European distributor's online shop as I was
getting ready to order the parts I thought were necessary.
One of the options offered on the page is the firmware update, valued at 45,00

Is this only necessary for older K2 models or is it necessary to order this
upgrade even with a brand new kit?

Thanks for shedding a light on this subject. I can't wait to start building
this baby...

Re: [Elecraft] firmware update?

2006-01-30 Thread Don Brown
Hi

All new Elecraft products will have the latest firmware in effect at the
time. The upgrade is so people with older K2's can add the newest features
if they want. In some cases when adding an option module an older K2 will
require the upgrade to make the option function. Don't worry you will get
the latest firmware included with your K2 and any options you may order at
the same time.

Is this only necessary for older K2 models or is it necessary to order this
upgrade even with a brand new kit?

Thanks for shedding a light on this subject. I can't wait to start building
this baby...

RE: [Elecraft] firmware update?

Glenn,

It is not necessary to order the firmware update - you will receive the
latest firmware with your new K2 kit.

I'm new to this list and looking into building my own K2.
This evening I was browsing the European distributor's online
shop as I was getting ready to order the parts I thought were necessary.
