The memory allocated for NAVeAP.exe is very hightotaling almost all of the memory for the server. It usually is in the 900 meg range then the server begins to run VERY slow. Also when you look in Task Manager it is listed twice (NAVeAP.exe)The second one totaling about half the memory allocated of the first. I only have about 250 users with email accounts and by all accounts the server is not hit very hard. When rebooting the server everything seems ok for a day or so but then the memory allocated shoots up very high when a virus is detected and the server does a scan, when finished the server never reclaims the memory used and within a week I am more than likely forced to again reboot the server to reclaim the memory. RE: Doc bugs in Exchange SDK?
1. I think there is a small doc bug because file://./backofficestorage will not return a lost of organizations but the SMTP mail domain set in the Default Recipient Policy. 2. RE: Change site and organization names in exch 5.5
I agree, Move Server Wizard is the tool that you need to preform this, but take a CSV export of all your accounts using all the headers available and a offline backup copy of the DB's. (MSW will create all these CSV files for you anyway i.e. one for DL's, users, CR's and all people who have a secondarty proxy addresses). once the MSW is done, just manually import these CSV files. THe DL's will need to be modified abit to match the new org and just add the old x500 addresses so that old mail doesnt bounce back. Hope this helps. Kulwinder The Move Server Wizard is what you're looking for and will do what you want (essentially you'll be unloading the Exchange IS and DS databases and reloading them with the new names). I think it's on a utils subdirectory on the Exchange SP4 upgrade cd. Or maybe sp2? - I'd look for you but I got RIF'd a couple of months ago and don't have access to the cd's. There is a 50-60 page Word doc of planning info and options and things you need to be aware of to run it; it is complete and very good - read every word before you do anything. I think MSW was introduced in SP2 and may be on that cd, but I would take the server to sp4 first. If you have any problems and have to call MS, they'll be much more helpful if you're at current sp. Unwanted OOO auto replies to the list members
I'm not going to start another discussion about turning OOO replies generally on to the Internet or not [1]. RE: Allocation Unit (Cluster) Size Question
This topic seems to arise every other year or so since early in Exchange 4.0. There is a heated debate on e-mail, with no-one really proving anything. Then it all goes quiet. At least this time we seem to have two valid approaches for those that want to bother. A book by Curt Aubley and a website at Tricord. I agree with Ed. I would like someone with more time than most of us have, go out and investigate this in a real-world situation. Was the message sent in (shudder) HTML format? If so, then you need to replace MLANG.DLL from the original Win98/Win2000 install... There's a Q article about this somewhere on MS's site, but I don't know the number off the top of my head.. MLANG.DLL from IE6 beta causes problems with HTML messages in Outlook 2000 (supposedly this was fixed in the release version of IE6, but I've run into the problem with the release/IEAK version of IE6 too, not just the beta as Microsoft suggests)... In a few odd instances, replacing MLANG.DLL with the original version caused Outlook not to be able to open any messages, so I needed to restore the partially functional MLANG.DLL... Haven't found a fix for those odd cases yet (anyone help with that one?).. FWIW, next time please supply more information about OL/Exch versions, symptoms, etc since my reply is based on many assumptions and may not help you at all... I agree, and their server software is decent to install and reliable. You can have my RIM when you take it from my cold dead hands. These have saved our company a bundle by having faster communications on everything from network outages to new sales leads. I can't recommend them enough. One thing to keep in mind is if you are already a email centric company, go for the bigger 957 handhelds, the larger display makes a big difference. Cingular has em for $299 a pop now (which is their going ebay rate). I am looking for a software that will work with Pocket PC, Palm, etc. Thank you in advance, Brian _ List posting FAQ: http://www.swinc.com/resource/exch_faq.htm Archives: http://www.swynk.com/sitesearch/search.asp To unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Exchange List admin:[EMAIL PROTECTED] _ List posting FAQ: http://www.swinc.com/resource/exch_faq.htm Archives: http://www.swynk.com/sitesearch/search.asp To unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Exchange List admin:[EMAIL PROTECTED] _ List posting FAQ: http://www.swinc.com/resource/exch_faq.htm Archives: http://www.swynk.com/sitesearch/search.asp To unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Exchange List admin:[EMAIL PROTECTED] _ List posting FAQ: http://www.swinc.com/resource/exch_faq.htm Archives: http://www.swynk.com/sitesearch/search.asp To unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Exchange List admin:[EMAIL PROTECTED]

With only one set of spindles for information store, there is no performance benefit to be had from multiple storage groups or databases. RE: Veritas Netbackup error on MSX 5.5
Yup, even in that little backward town. It had four radio stations and a Tee Vee station even! I was shocked that when I arrived there in 1973 they still had five-digit dialing for in-town phones, and if you wanted to call Guadalupe or Los Alamos you had to dial the operator and ask for the number. Our phone number was WEllington 7-7032. If you bought touch-tone service, your touch-tone phone invoked a dialer--you could hear the dialing clicks on the line! Yes, we've all heard of this, but I'm talking about 1973! We had finished sending moon rockets by then! Gee! No, GTE! Alan, In my opinion, the best resource for CDO programming is MSDN. If you're attempting to modify your Auto Registration application, you should find c++ examples which will do everything you require, from creating mailboxes to setting permissions on MSDN. I know it sounds like a cop out, but I've written a similar system in VB using nothing but that and www.cdolive.com for reference. Darren. Subject: Books on managing Ex2K from C++? RE: New Exchange 2000 Install
You should never have the logs for more than one storage group on a single physical drive. You can use the same RAID set for multiple stores' databases, but because storage groups have separate sets of log files, you could take a performance hit by sharing a physical drive between two or more storage groups. In your case, I think you could justify two storage groups for 2,000 users, but that, of course, depends on usage patterns. I think that if you wanted to implement two storage groups, however, you would absolutely require an additional RAID-1 pair for the other set of logs, and I think you would seriously want to consider another RAID-5 for the second set of databases. RE: New Exchange 2000 Install
I would, otherwise you'll have another set of transaction log files. Also, if a user on database A in storage group A sends a message to a user on database B in storage group B, then you've got copies of the message in two databases and two sets of log files. With 2000 users on a single server, space can diminish quickly. The trade off with multiple databases is reduced efficiency in storage requirements, since single instance storage is per-database, against the theory that you could recover the database of a portion of your users more quickly than if they were all on one database. Backing up and restoring a single huge database could be a problem if you've got strict SLA windows. Re: New Exchange 2000 Install
Neil, thanks you cleared alot up for me. im going to go with one group and backup will be every night (got an autoloader) and see what happens.. thanksit isnt going ot be 2000 users on at once ever. i think at most on any given day the maximum concurrent users on the system will be 500 max... Why would an email?
Good afternoon, Outlook 98 Exchange 5.5 sp4 I have a user that claims they are not receiving eMAILs from one person outside the organization. I emailed that outside person and asked for a reply. I cc: my Yahoo account so I could see if I was having networking problems. I have checked this person's mailbox and there is no messages from this outside person. The outside person received my eMAIL and replied to all. My Yahoo account got the reply just like that but my Outlook account finally got the message after 4 1/2 hours... WOW. What is up with that? I have checked my queues and nothing is backed up. I can send eMAIL to my Yahoo account from my Outlook account and vice versa and the messages are received on a timely bases. I have checked my logs and see nothing strange. Has anyone had a similar problem? Please help me out. RE: Why would an email?
MX record pointing to your mail server possibly. I had this exact problem only I was trying to send to an organization. Some mail would go through, some mail would fail. Turned out my ISP DNS servers had two MX records for the recipient and one of them was wrong. It only happened on this one particular domain. It is possible the organization in question for you has a problem on their DNS finding your correct MX server. After doing some recursive queries it is finally finding your MX server. Just a thought. -Original Message- From: Mitchell Mike [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, June 18, 2002 1:04 PM To: Exchange Discussions Subject: Why would an email? Re: MailBox LIMIT PROBLEM
All folders are subject to quotas in Exchange, not just InBox. Check Sent Items and Deleted Items as these tend to not get cleaned out regularly. Clients can also get folder sizes by viewing the properties of their mailbox in Outlook and clicking on Folder Size. That'll clue them in on where to start cleaning. - Karen On Tue, 18 Jun 2002 [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I HAVE SOME USERS THAT DON'T HAVE BARELY ANY MAIL IN THEIR INBOX, AND YET WHEN THEY TRY TO SEND IT GIVES THE A MAILBOX STORAGE ERROR, AND THEY CAN'T SEND. LDAP DN Question
In our current NT/Exchange 5.5 system, user display names are formatted as 'lastname, firstname'. In testing Win2k/Exch2k upgrades I noticed, using ADSI Edit, that the LDAP distinguished name for users ends up 'lastname\, firstname', with the slash thrown in to escape the comma character. There are references on various software development newsgroups that this slash in the DN occasionally causes headaches for developers. Has anyone seen this slash in the DN cause a problem in either Exchange or other applications that depend on LDAP? _ List posting FAQ: http://www.swinc.com/resource/exch_faq.htm Archives: http://www.swynk.com/sitesearch/search.asp To unsubscribe: mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Exchange List admin:[EMAIL PROTECTED]

RE: MailBox LIMIT PROBLEM
Im not sure what you mean by breakdown. The Folder Size *is* the size of the folder in the question. So if you are looking at the properties of Outlook Today folder (i.e. The top of the Information Store) , that is its size. Unchecking that box should remove the Outlook Today pane and restore the regular folder view and allow you to easily see any emails that may be in that folder. -Original Message- From: Bryon Barkley [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, June 18, 2002 8:07 PM To: Exchange Discussions Subject: RE: MailBox LIMIT PROBLEM True, but it will not show a breakdown of that Top of Information Store folder. RE: MailBox LIMIT PROBLEM
My meaning of breakdown is, when you go into the properties of the Outlook Today - [Mailbox - your name] and click on folder size, you see a breakdown of every folder listed under it. The top of Information store is not one of them. A quick test will prove my point. Verify the folder size of your Outlook Today - [Mailbox - your name], now create a new message with a known size attachment and send it to yourself. Check the folder size again and it should have increased by the size of the new message. Now, take that message and drag it onto your Outlook Today - [Mailbox - your name], the entire mailbox size will remain the same, however, the size of your inbox folder will be decreased by the size of the message you moved. You will not see where this message has been moved to because you can't look at the Top of Information Store and the only way to see if there are some messages there, is to do an advanced find. It has been my experience, that when users complain about having a full mailbox and swear they are under the limit, I check for messages in their Outlook Today - [Mailbox - your name]and walla, they their are. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of Andy David Sent: Tuesday, June 18, 2002 5:22 PM To: Exchange Discussions Subject: RE: MailBox LIMIT PROBLEM Im not sure what you mean by breakdown. It only shows a total of everything. Unchecking the Show Home Page did nothing for me. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of Andy David Sent: Tuesday, June 18, 2002 4:36 PM To: Exchange Discussions Subject: RE: MailBox LIMIT PROBLEM Actually, it does show the folder size. Its listed above the subfolders dialog box: Folder Size: nk Total Size (Fld + SubFldr) : nnnK Another way to easily get to it is to uncheck the Show Home Page box under the Properties/Home Page tab for the Outlook Today folder. -Original Message- From: Bryon Barkley [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Tuesday, June 18, 2002 7:22 PM To: Exchange Discussions Subject: RE: MailBox LIMIT PROBLEM Check Top of Information Store, people always seem to put mail in here for some reason.
