Great news! Congratulations Susan. I hope you find your remaining two. Re-setting traps again tonight at the old house in hopes of getting Pumpkin. Lil Mister and Tuffy, two of the cats who ran out during the fire, remain missing. Weve been looking for them night and day, cruising alleys, posting flyers, etc. Still no sign of them. I want to say again THANK YOU! It had to be rescue friendly. That's why it took a month to find. SuppliesI'm afraid what we need at this point is stuff that's too big to ship. The cats really need new cat trees. All three of the ones we had were so infused with smoke that they were just unusable. I do need to replace carriers and traps over time. Mine were stored in the basement where the fire started and I'm working with borrowed ones that really need to be returned soon. But we're good on litter boxes, bowls, that sort of thing. It is such a relief to have everyone moved. I felt so vulnerable in the little apartment where we had been staying -- ground floor, street front, two rooms and 20 cats. Nice to have them in a house again. Kat [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Hi Susan, It's great that you've found a rescue friendly place/landlords!! What has also been nice has been seeing adoptions happen even while we tried to get resettled. Five of the kittens who were there on the day of the fire were adopted from their foster home last week (and only 25 or so left in that foster home, but she's working on it), adults and other kittens have been adopted from wherever they were staying after the fire, including one FIV+ girl. Now, as I'm getting a landline and DSL back up and running, I can really focus in on adoptions and get rolling again. I really hope Lil Mister and Tuffy show up. I'm sure both have gone absolutely feral at this point. I keep hoping to find one of them in one of the traps being set for Pumpkin and Cutie-Pie. Re: Fire update/Sprinkler systems
ADT is fine if you are home. The sprinkler system gives my little friends a really good chance if I am not here which, unfortunately, if a lot of the time. I really can't say enough good things about B B. They have made so many trips down herethey even sent Gary when I had trouble with the bell refusing to shut up (I believe this was due to the electrician screwing up). I would encourage anyone to price out retrofitting. My contractor let ceilings be installed before B B was called in (he did everything backwards) and the price was still under $9000. FYI this is a house designed as a possible duplexpromises made to my father before he left this world + possible needs of my own in my old age. Appx 2400 square feet on the main floor with a comparable walkout basement and appx 1100 square foot attached and sprinkled garage. (OK.there is enough room in the garage for some critter areas + a drain and sink for critter bathing when Dixie gets a dog). Again, really cheap but something no one thinks about unless they have seen body bags coming out of a fire. I know I am repeating myself but hopefully someone will check it out. It is the one thing about this house that has gone right. The only thing I should say. One of the cheapest things you can do to avert a major fire tragedy is to install sprinklers. Losing everything and everyone is much more painful. Also, if you are retrofitting an already built house it will cost more but if you're lucky enough to live in a ranch not that much more. Thanks for the excellent tips--I'm keeping them in mind. And, now that I think of it, sprinklers should work out much better than ADT--which scares me and my mom straight up in the air when it goes off--for instance, when a spider walks into one of the smoke detectors--they're so spider-cozy. Waking up to a faceful of cold water would be much less alarming--and won't scare the kitties to death, either! Tee Consciousness is Causal and Physicality is its Manifestation. Re: Fire update
Marilyn, you smart cookie, or should I say, you smart kitty treat, you are SO RIGHT! And, now that I think of it, sprinklers should work out much better than ADT-- which scares me and my mom straight up in the air when it goes off-- for instance, when a spider walks into one of the smoke detectors-- they're so spider-cozy. Waking up to a faceful of cold water would be much less alarming--and won't scare the kitties to death, either! Tee Consciousness is Causal and Physicality is its Manifestation.
