Message-ID: Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 Hi Alf The benefits of Win7 are more in operating comfort than in new things you cannot do with XP. The new taskbar and themes are very nice and easy to use. There are some automated things like trying to find out what is the cause of a program failure (which I turn off) but they either are not very mature yet or the system is not capable of telling whats wrong because its seldom useful. The upgrade path is Microsoft's implicit statement that you really should not be upgrading, instead do a fresh recovery. PC Gurus have said this a long time but MS has offered these upgrade utilities that left system settings in a confused state and caused problems. Since there is no upgrade path from XP to Win7, you are forced to "do the right thing". 73 Neal Campbell Abroham Neal Software www.abrohamnealsoftware.com (540) 645 5394 NEW PHONE NUMBER Amateur Radio: K3NC Blog: http://www.abrohamnealsoftware.com/blog/ DXBase bug reports: email to ca...@dxbase.fogbugz.com Abroham Neal forums: http:/www.abrohamnealsoftware.com/community/ On Wed, Jun 9, 2010 at 12:15 PM, Alfred Green wrote: I am currently running XP Pro SP3 with PSDR 1.18.2 for my F3000. Many besides myself have reported the following problem with the setup-test function. when the test button is pressed there is no tone coming out of either speaker. Has anyone found a cure for the motorboating that is heard in the digital output stream coming from the fdmdrv interface to the sdr1000? I have tried everything from buffer sizes to reconfiguring the vac cables. [Flexradio] VAC312 question
--- Forwarded message follows --- From: Bill Nagle <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject:312 question Date sent: Wed, 24 May 2006 12:33:22 -0400 I recently purchased version 312 of vac and have a question: I have two sound cards in the pc (one is the built in card that is part of the mother board, the other is a pci card (delta 44). I brought up the vac control panel and created two vac's. When i run a recording app using the built in sound card, the vac shows activity on one of the vac's. When i use the delta44 card (with flex rado sdr1000) the vac control panel shows NO activity on the other vac. What I am trying to do is patch the delta44 sound card output through a pair of vac's to the recording app on the main sound card. The little audio repeater program does not work because there is no patch between the delta44 and the vac control panel. Is this perhaps something that a newer vac version has fixed? The computer is a 32 bit athlon 2.8gig with 512m of ram. [Flexradio] RFI in SDR1000
I am experiencing some severe r-f problems with the flex at any external linear amp power above 100 watts carrier (AM). When the rf feedback starts it causes a repeating "echo" in the listeners end receiver. The first echo is the normal flex delay but then it builds on itself into multiple echos. There is no problem with my other setup in the same location using an ft1000d into a similar L4-b linear. I have used the TDK ZCAT2035 clamp on rf chokes profusely around all of the cables in and out of the flex but the problem still exists. Hi Eric: I will also post this in the requested features area in support. If we do the following, we can have totally scaled power for those touchy linears and also allow more output availability when using the sdr1000 as a stand alone device: 1--In the SETUP/TRANSMIT menu add a "knob"(similar to the tune setting) that will set the total power out from the sdr1000 from 0-150 watts 2--Modify the PWR "knob" on the main console so that it looks at the setting in 1 above to determine its maximum range Example: setup set to 50 watts would give a PWR range of 0-50 watts. [Flexradio] pc initialization and ptt
It seems that even if the 12 volt power is turned off to the sdr1000, when the pc is first fired up it pulls the x2 ptt pin low a couple of times, sometimes STAYING low until the sdr software is brought up. This can be a problem depending on what is hanging externally on that circuit. My proposed solution is to put a small "in between" relay in the ptt line and have it's coil powered by the 12 volts on the LOAD side of the sdr power switch on the front panel. Bill Nagle
[Flexradio] AM ALC trip point
Bob/Eric: Something was changed between release 14 and 15 regarding the trip point for the alc in AM mode. I set both versions the same parameters and watching the panadapter on voice peaks, in SSB they go to -20db in both releases , but the AM peaks only go to -30db in release 15 and -20db in release 14. This effect is the same with or without the alc leveler engaged. This reduction effects the positive peaks on AM modulation causing non linear audio on peaks. Please change it back to the way it was in 14. Thanks, Bill Nagle [EMAIL PROTECTED]
[Flexradio] sync detector understanding
Bob: I am not sure I understand the way you have the SAM set up. It appears that if you listen to a ssb signal in SAM it picks the sideband that has the modulation on it? A change to have the SAM automatically pick the ssb side that has NO audio in it would be preferred since it is an AM feature and the suppression of an unwanted ssb signal has always been one of the goals of previous sync detectors that I have built and/or used. If you can do the above and it would be easier than implimenting the BIN feature in SAM mode, it would be more useful and wouldnt require stereo headphones . Bill Nagle [EMAIL PROTECTED]
[Flexradio] app window key
Every once in awhile I press a key (not sure which one it is) and the sdr software becomes about one quarter of its size and the screen now shows also any open apps that were running. Pressing the escape key brings the sdr software back in focus. What IS that magic key? Bill Nagle [EMAIL PROTECTED]
[Flexradio] 96k sdr code change
Hi Jerry: Could you please send me the code changes to get the sdr1000 panadapter out to 96khz in release 15? Thanks, Bill Nagle [EMAIL PROTECTED]
[Flexradio] more keymap glitches
ALT+I, K , L dont seem to work on the filters either. This is release 15 Bill Nagle
[Flexradio] keymap glitch
Am programming the contour shuttle and came across this glitch: When pressing the key combo ALT+F to narrow the filter, it jumps right down to VAR1 and then each time you press the combo it changes the cw low/high limit screens. The same is true if you press CTRL+F to widen the filter. Bill Nagle [EMAIL PROTECTED]
[Flexradio] contour layouts
Anyone care to share suggested layouts for the buttons on the contour shuttle device for the sdr1000? Bill Nagle [EMAIL PROTECTED]
[Flexradio] shuttle button picture
Does anyone have a graphic of the powersdr.pref keys on the contour shuttle? Bill Nagle [EMAIL PROTECTED]
[Flexradio] two tone inoperative vers 15
In version 15 the imd two tone test does not work nor does the power adjust associated with it. It defaults over to the sweep generator instead. Bill Nagle
[Flexradio] filter descriptions
Do you have a description of the various filters like the hanning default and what is best for what mode? Bill Nagle
[Flexradio] good job
I wanted to thank you for the AM SLIDER addition, it works perfectly. The only other thing i see at the moment is if I slam a lot of audio in on AM, it hits the "rails " and flattops. If you or bob could show me where the line of code is that sets the alc start point for AM, i could tweak it and make a suggestion for future rev change. Better yet, could it be made adjustable in settings easily? Also, has anyone asked for independent sideband transmit capability for possible use with digital on one side and voice on the other? Bill Nagle [EMAIL PROTECTED]
[Flexradio] LSB Memory
Has anyone else run into this glitch on rev 13-15? If you set LSB receive to say 4khz then exit the software and start it up again, LSB has switched to 6khz. Bill Nagle
[Flexradio] MORE EQ channels
Requesting an increase of eq channels from 3 to 5. Anyone else? Bill Nagle
[Flexradio] Negative peak limiting on am
There are a lot of older receivers out there that use diode or product detectors to demodulate AM signals. When a balanced modulator goes into "reverse" mode at 100 percent carrier cutoff, there is some distortion present in the receiver. Synchronous detectors actually ADD this energy to the output audio which is desirable. It would be nice to have a console button to enable a negative peak limiter so that the carrier only gets modulated to about 95 percent in the negative direction with unlimited positive swing available. This is a technique used in broadcast and should be easy to add with the digital world in some future sdr revision. Your thoughts? Bill Nagle
[Flexradio] LSB setting save vers 14
In Release 14, if you exit the program from the AM 6khz position with LSB and USB set to 4khz, the next time the program is started LSB starts at 6khz while USB remembers its 4khz setting. Bill Nagle
[Flexradio] EQ suggested peaks
For a five band EQ I would suggest the following center frequencies (with of course the 180hz notch option): 100 hz 300 hz 600 hz 1500 hz 3500 hz Anyone else want to chime in on these ? Bill Nagle [EMAIL PROTECTED]
[Flexradio] AM AUDIO PHASE Version 14
Eric and Bob: I have been playing with release 14 and back and have come upon an anomaly. In AM transmit mode no matter which way the incoming mike audio is phased or whatever the power level, the modulated waveforem always gives the same percentage of positive and negative modulation IE: 50%50% instead of higher positive peak availability 50%80% on average male voice. I don't know if this is a creature the alc has hatched since it is NOT present in version 12 which shows a nice ratio that changes when the mike phase is reversed. Bill Nagle [EMAIL PROTECTED]
[Flexradio] EQ channels
I vote for 5 channels of EQ rather than 3. Bill Nagle http://home.ptd.net/~w3duq
[Flexradio] Linear Non-linear
Question on the 100 watt pa: Could we crank up the alc controlled available peak power a bit by decreasing the bias on either the driver or main transistors to reduce intermod above 100 watts on ssb ? Bill Nagle http://home.ptd.net/~w3duq
Re: [Flexradio] AM PEAKS DOWN IN VERSION 14
PS: The scope mode of the display only shows audio waveforms, not modulation waveforms. Bill Nagle http://home.ptd.net/~w3duq
[Flexradio] AM PEAKS DOWN IN VERSION 14
In version 13 as you reduce the power on the console the AM carrier reduces and by turning up the audio you can obtain full peak output, allowing reduced carrier dsb operation. This IS desirable. In version 14 when you reduce the power on the console the entire AM signal is reduced- carrier AND audio. This is NOT desirable. Bill Nagle [EMAIL PROTECTED]
[Flexradio] feature suggestion
Request for future revision of sdr software. Have a way to tie in the transmit upper frequency cutoff point to the receive fixed bandwidths currently on the console. This feature should be clickable on the console on or off and when in the off mode it should revert to the various config in transmit in the setup menus. Is this a major change or a simple one? Bill Nagle [EMAIL PROTECTED]
[Flexradio] Peak Power AM vs SSB
There is a phenomena in linear amps that are used to transmit AM: The AM carrier causes a "flywheel" effect which fills in the missing parts of the rf cycle. This allows operation at higher peak powers without i-m distortion being generated. This does NOT happen in ssb modes. Thus you can run more peak power on any given amp on AM. I can run my SDR at the 25 watt carrier out level and modulate around 200% in the positive direction (the negative peaks dont cut the carrier off due to the operation of the balanced modulator) without any i-m generated. Re: [Flexradio] NEW ALC AWESOME
The reworked ALC is awesome and totally transparant. It's the first time in the history of rice boxes that an alc has actually worked without massive distortion! Also, the peak power distortion on the 1 watt predriver is cleaned up. The peak power meter shows around 125 for ssb and 200 for am which is EXACTLY the way we need it to work. One question: What is the "leveler" supposed to be doing? Bill Nagle [EMAIL PROTECTED]
[Flexradio] intermittant power glitch
Version 12 glitch On occasion, regardless of the voice mode being transmitted, when i go back to receive there is no received signal (only noise on the panadapter), then when i go to transmit again there is no rf output. This occurs on all priority levels. If I set the sdr software to standby then back to on it recovers. Bill Nagle [EMAIL PROTECTED]
[Flexradio] VAC 3.11
Where do I obtain VAC 3.11 ? Bill Nagle [EMAIL PROTECTED]
[Flexradio] version 12 crash mode
In version 12 of the sdr software if you do the following it will crash into debug mode: 1-bring up the powersdr and sdr1000 2--switch the mode to either DGL or DGU 2--go from STANDBY to ON condition 3--go from ON to STANDBY then back again This also occurs if you are in the ON mode and switch from am/lsb/usb to digl or digu Bill Nagle [EMAIL PROTECTED]
[Flexradio] delat44 dc noise
Eric: The problem with the wiggling carrier on AM is coming from the delta44 in3 and in4 stages which are sending sporadic dc pulses to the sdr software. They are there REGARDLESS of whether there is a mike plugged in. If you would check into the DC BLOCK function in the sdr software i'll bet you will find that it is NOT working. Bill Nagle http://home.ptd.net/~w3duq
[Flexradio] Wobbling AM carrier
Hi Eric: Here is another idiosynchrosy with the AM mode. Regardless of the power out setting, when i turn up the mike inout on any software version, with or without a mike connected to the delta44, i get an intermittant wavering of the carrier up to 30 percent. It looks like perhaps there is a very low frequency or dc component coming out of the sound card that is modulating the carrier. I tried altering the eq and low end on the transmit tab with no effect. If I change the delta44 inout hardware setting to +4 it almost goes away. If I set the transmit threshold to 25 it seems to stop it also This does not happen on ssb or dsb or fm modes. This happens with two different delta44 cards. A cure might be to put a very low frequency highpass filter in the software (say 10 hz cutoff) wherever the mike input control comes from. Bill Nagle [EMAIL PROTECTED]
[Flexradio] Transmit Profile DRM missing
I am trying to set up the DREAM drm encoder using sdr release 12 and there is no option in transmit profile setup ulldown menu for saving options to a DRM profile. Bill Nagle [EMAIL PROTECTED]
[Flexradio] Monitoring AM
Seems that the MON button works on SSB but not on AM. It would be very useful to have it active in AM. Bill Nagle http://home.ptd.net/~w3duq
[Flexradio] WAVE FILE PLAYBACK LEVEL
In Version 12 the playback level for wave files is extremely high. Bill Nagle [EMAIL PROTECTED]
[Flexradio] Mike Audio Phase Reversal
Has anyone tried to reverse the mikw phase 180 degrees from within the flex? I tried reversing it in the delta44 card pullup menu on in3 and in4 but it has no effect, i assume because the flex takes over? Bill Nagle http://home.ptd.net/~w3duq
[Flexradio] rx signal versus preamp setting
I get the following "s" meter upper scale readings with the rx preamp and am wondering why they are backwards (the higher the gain the lower the reading). This is with no input signal to the receiver. off -95db low -102 med -119 high -124 Bill Nagle [EMAIL PROTECTED]
[Flexradio] wav file playback level
Be very careful with version 12 when you go to play back a wav file with the flex recorder. The level is about 10 times the needed level and it may pop your amp if you dont get to the mox button fast enough. Bill Nagle http://home.ptd.net/~w3duq
[Flexradio] LINEAR LOADING ?
A followup to the ALC question. I am wondering if perhaps the 100 watt pa is improperly loaded into a 52 ohn dummy load? If the impedence of the pa is say 25 ohms, it wil not operate with the proper peak to peak output no matter what you do to the driver. Bill Nagle [EMAIL PROTECTED]
[Flexradio] ALC-LINEAR PROBLEM
When in AM or SSB mode the output level into a dummy load does not change with changes in the ALC threshold setting (0 to -40db), regardless of where the "POWER" level (0-100%) is set on the main display. I have two scopes hooked up, one to the 1 watt exciter output, the other to the dummy load. The output from the exciter is clean and continues to go up after 100 percent upward modulation, while the output from the 100 watt linear stops at about 80 percent positive, regardless of where power or alc threshold are set. Question: Where does the signal come from for power and alc level sets? Bill Nagle [EMAIL PROTECTED]
[Flexradio] DATABASE OVERWRITE
If I have installed version 12 then make some changes to it and recompile, when I deploy it from the compiler will it install on top of the originally installed version 12? If it does than is it smart enough to see that there is already a database in there and not overwrite it? Bill Nagle [EMAIL PROTECTED]
[Flexradio] mute version 12
The problem with mute in version 12 is that it WILL activate yellow when the software is in STANDBY mode. When you switch the software to ON it will not go yellow on pushing the mute button. Bill Nagle http://home.ptd.net/~w3duq
[Flexradio] Mute / Squelch / Eq
The MUTE button has ceased working on preview 12 Also, how does the squelch button work? I dont get any effect in any mode including fmn. The new EQ's are amazing, considering that they are only 3 channels. Behringer could take a lesson for their vx2000 processor.
