[Flexradio] Voice Keyer Question

2012-10-28 Thread Paul

I have installed the Voice Keyer and have it using VAC to send audio to my
Flex 5000. I have checked the Allow PTT to Override VAC but when I press
MOX to transmit with the microphone it does not override.

I'm sure I'm doing something wrong but can't find my error.

Re: [Flexradio] Voice Keyer Question

2012-10-28 Thread Steve Sterling
This is how it is supposed to work. MOX is not PTT. Those are lines on
the mic jack and a jack in the back. The MOX is how someone operating
remote through applications like Teamviewer or MS Remote Desktop keys up
the transmitter with audio input from VAC, not the station mic. With
Allow PTT to Override VAC set, then someone keying a PTT line (not
MOX) overrides the audio coming in from VAC and gets it from the local
station mic inputs.

At least that is how mine works. And it needs to work that way for my
purposes.

Re: [Flexradio] Voice Keyer

2011-11-27 Thread Michael Walker
My 2 cents.

I've had good success with lots of PC voice keyers, but when they go down
in the middle of a contest you do tend to spend some time getting things
back online. I have run N1MM with my F3K, but the setup did take some time.

I've just ordered one of these for my Flex
http://www.idiompress.com/logitalker.php as an external device. A few of
my buddies have them and they just love them.

BTW, I just ran my first CW test.. period. The Flex was so rock sold with
the 50hz filters, that I can't imagine using anything else. Normally, I
would switch to my IC 756pro3, but this time I thought I would try the 3K
with The Knob. You must have the knob to ensure you always have vfo
focus.

The one problem I had was that I kept coasting by the station as the tuning
signals were somewhat buffered. Has anyone else seen this?

Re: [Flexradio] Voice keyer through PSDR truncates end of audio on output, progressive worsening

2011-07-06 Thread Matt Steven AI1P
I don't think I am having conversion problems since I have all programs
set to 48k though. Based on the experiences of others recounted here so
far, I would anticipate that my 48k recordings going from N1MM over VAC
and through PSDR all set to 48k would work.

But it sounds like there's a serious buffering problem because it's
seriously choppy on output when I do that.

that sample rate. I forced the VAC sample rates and the Windows
sample rate to a multiple of the sample rate used in one of my digi
programs.
Since many Flexers use N1MM, they can contribute the sample rates for
their wav files and for VAC.

 Thanks for the pointer.

Since I was not sure which rate you were pointing to as being the
preferred, I tried both. I found that setting everything to 48khz
caused the voice to sound like I was talking through a fan on low
(buffering issue?), but setting the VAC lines in windows as you
suggest to single rather than double channel with all settings all
around at 44.1 seems to have reduced the speed with which it begins to
clip off the end, but it is still happening. I'd estimate the need to
reset every 5 minutes or so to avoid becoming unintelligible.

The wavs I am using with these results were recorded at 48khz.

Matt and others,

I have read all in the thread, my one addition is that I noticed that you
are running VAC 4.10. There were and has been timing and buffering issues
that degrade over time with the 4.10 version.. You might want to try the
4.09 version instead, and you will need the signed version for the 64 bit
OS..As Tim had said, you need to make sure the Windows default settings
for Virtual line 1 and 2 are set to 48K, otherwise there might be some up
conversions causing issues...

 FlexRadio Flex-3000 with PowerSDR 2.0.22
Playback occurs over Virtual Audio Cables (VAC) 4.10.0.2537

I want to feed the output of N1MM's voice keyer to PSDR for
contesting, and it works great, at first. The problem is that
something is cutting off my recorded wavs about 100ms early and
getting progressively worse as I run it.

My problem can be duplicated as follows, assuming a regular contest
setup for voice on N1MM (using the IARU coming up next weekend
 currently)

 1. Record to N1MM's voice keyer via shift+ctrl+F1-F12 several wav messages
 2. Play them as I would in a contest several times, listening to the
playback through MOX. The first few times, playback is good.
 3. After 5-6 playbacks, they start to get truncated at the end more
and more, and a delay starts to get introduced toward the beginning of
playback. Eventually the audio is not even playing the final second or
two of the message, and there's a silence of around 50% of the end
 truncation length at the beginning.

I've tried ruling out VAC as the source of the trouble using its
audio repeater utility. When directing the output of N1MM into the
same VAC line and connecting that line to a headset output on the
repeater, I do not experience the problem.

 Further, possibly unrelated, observations:

 1. When I direct the audio output direct to headphones instead of VAC,
the delay does not happen either
 2. I have tried different sample rates, 44k and 48k. While switching
sample rate resets the problem (probably N1MM resetting the audio
system), it then proceeds to degrade as time goes forward as before. I
now suspect that sample rates are a factor, but when they are all set
to the same thing on N1MM and PowerSDR it seems it should be OK. VAC
appears to handle a wide range of sample rates automatically so I
don't know that it would be the factor.
 3. I have verified that the wavs play back perfectly outside of n1mm,
and also have tried recording wavs with audacity, it seems that ANY
wav will exhibit this behavior whatever its source, but the wav files
are of good quality and not truncated or corrupt.

 Thanks for any help.

I have seen the same thing with Writelog - turning VAC off and back on in
PowerSDR gets rid of the problem.

I haven't tried trouble shooting this further but wonder if its because of a

If using Vista or Win7, make sure the default format sampling rate for
the Windows VAC sound devices (playback and record) matches what you
use for the VAC. The default is 44.1 KHz which forces Windows to do an
up-conversion to 48KHz

Right click on the actual sound device and select Properties. Then
click on the Advanced tab. This is where it shows and you can change
the default format. Unless you are using VAC in stereo mode, make sure
you select the single channel option.

Hi,

I originally posted a version of this to N1MM's reflector, but further
troubleshooting points to PowerSDR so I'll continue my quest here.

Environment:
Windows 7 64bit
N1MM Logger V11.6.4
FlexRadio Flex-3000 with PowerSDR 2.0.22
Playback occurs over Virtual Audio Cables (VAC) 4.10.0.2537

I want to feed the output of N1MM's voice keyer to PSDR for
contesting, and it works great, at first. The problem is that
something is cutting off my recorded wavs about 100ms early and
getting progressively worse as I run it

[Flexradio] Voice keyer

2011-03-01 Thread Dieter Schuster

It can become very boring to call CQ in SSB-Contests.
Is there any way to have an internal voicerecorder for this? Iam talking
about a voicekeyer not the record and play feature!
Any old fashion TRX does have this feature, which mostly can be activated by
a small button on the frontside.
Is this of common interest in the SDR-community or do you consider it just a
freaky idea of funny contesters?

Dieter,

What OS are you running?

I wrote a VoiceKeyer program a couple of years ago that interfaces to
PowerSDR using VAC. It is free to download and use (from my website -- URL

works fine with XP or Vista, but I have had several users report problems
running it under Win7 (either 32-bit or 64-bit).

This is on my list of things to work on, but until I can upgrade one of my

Version 1.2 of my VoiceKeyer program has been released. The only change is
the addition of a None option to the list of serial ports. Selecting
None will prevent VoiceKeyer from activating the radio PTT. This may be

[Flexradio] Voice Keyer Bug

2008-06-27 Thread Ray, K9DUR
Tim, W4TME, has found a couple of minor issues with the VoiceKeyer program
which I will address after I get back from Field Day next week.

However, one bug can be particularly nasty to recover from. You would have
to hack the registry to get rid of an erroneous setup value.

Until this is fixed, BE ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN THAT YOU DO NOT CHOOSE A COM PORT
THAT IS ALREADY IN USE BY ANOTHER PROGRAM.

The program will let you select it (I will fix that), but then will fail
when it tries to open the port (I will fix that, also). The only way out is
to use RegEdit to edit the registry to delete the key containing the serial
port used. Manually editing the registry is NEVER a good idea unless you
know EXACTLY what you are doing. Another way would be to find the program
using the COM port, close it, restart VoiceKeyer and select a different COM
port. Then the other program can be restarted. However, this solution may
not always be practical.

Have fun at Field Day (I will be operating W9UUU), I will squash these
bugs after the weekend.

Re: [Flexradio] Voice Keyer

2007-10-12 Thread Ray Andrews, K9DUR
Bill,

I also want to avoid one more hardware box. But, with VAC vCOM, we have
all of the facilities we need for a stand-alone voice keyer program, IF
PowerSDR can be modified to allow simultaneous use of both VAC the
microphone. No extra hardware boxes, just another program running, which
could be your contest software with its built-in voice keyer (e.g., N1MM
Logger). An integrated voice keyer would be nice, but simultaneous VAC
mic should be easier (and therefore quicker) to implement.

Look for me in the IL QSO Party next week. I will be operating portable

One less box, thingy on the desk to grab rfi and/or button to push.

Plus, for traveling, one less item to carry and foreget the cables for.

I don't do much ssb contesting, but for DXing, I presently use the MFJ and
don't laugh.
It's rf proof and works well.
But one more power supply, one more item to carry and connect.

And a integrated Voice keyer would be a perfect way to create voice buffers
for programs such as DXLabs WinWarbler to use when dxing.

Re: [Flexradio] Voice Keyer some ideals!

2007-10-12 Thread Dudley Hurry
Bill and others,

If you use your computer sound card, using another voice program
would be easy on the 5K, just feed the output of the sound card
into the line in on the 5K, since it has a built in mixer, you can
easily adjust levels. There are several voice sound programs for this

Romac has a CW ID product

http://www.romacsoftware.com/

Also there is KD4UDY's Voice keyer, where you could have multiple
messages, and use Vcom to interface for the PTT..

http://www.kd4udy.com/UDY-2VoiceKeyer/

With the 1K you might have to mix you microphones and your sound card
output with some sort of simple mixer, or run your microphone
through the computer sound card and use Windows mixer before feeding
it to the mic input..

Just a couple of thoughts,

Ray,

You are exactly right, I was typing inputs and thinking of
outputs.. But still a simple mixer or run the mic through the sound
card will still work. I used an external mixer to mix CQ-100 output
into the radios now, along with a CW IDer from Romac..

For now, that is true. In the future, we will make it a fully functional
input mixer allowing multiple channels to be mixed.

[Flexradio] Voice Keyer

2007-04-13 Thread Mike Monnier
I wonder if any body has considered adding a voice keyer to the software
package?

I would like to call CQ from a prerecorded message. It could be programmed
to key and call once or as many times as it takes to get a response. This
would be a nice feature for contesting as well. Thanks

Re: [Flexradio] Voice Keyer

2007-04-13 Thread Mike Monnier
Since it is yet to make it to the planning table may I suggest this keyer
software have the ability to not only call CQ from a single recording but a
string of recordings played in sequence. It would sound more natural.

Start the call from a soft button on the Power SDR console and end it the
same way or by keying the push to talk. What do you think?

Hi Mike,

You can actually do that with the current recorder. Actually there is an SVN
that had a new recorder that worked really well in that aspect. I believe
they plan to incorporate it into the next official release. In the mean time
you may want to go to the Flex website and mention it as a feature request.

Re: [Flexradio] Voice Keyer

2007-04-13 Thread Tim Ellison
I think there are several ways to do things.

I'd like to see two console play/stop buttons for the voice keyer along
with a drop down box to choose from a selection of recordings. Pressing
start engages the MOX, Stop goes to receive. At then end of the voice
file the radio goes into RX

I'd liked to see the ability to record at least 8-10 voice files that
can be selected from the console's drop down box.

You should be able to use the EQ in the audio chain for recording your
voice files.

I would add to this an ability to record off line or use recordings made
elsewhere. Maybe normal .wav files. I could record and edit first and put
the recordings in the play list.

Add the ability to select one or more recordings, Push play and add a pause
button which returns SDR 1K to receive. Play/Resume button keys the TX
again.

You should be able to use the EQ in the audio chain for recording your
voice files.
