Have you tried checking the remove overrides option? If a paragraph has manual formatting and you don't check that option, the manual formatting will remain. Importing Formats - Why don't all Character Formats convert?
Framemaker 12 Windows 7 Professional (v 6.1) Hi everyone, We have several Framemaker 12 licenses on our staff (on a Windows 7 platform), and all of us seem to be repeatedly having this same problem, even with previous versions of Framemaker. When converting styles from a new template into a current document, it seems to work perfectly, except not all the Character Formats carry over. For example, the Paragraph tag within a chapter file would all be the same for Head1, but the character format for that tag converts correctly for some headings and not others. I then have to manually fix the other headings and Update All. One workaround we came up with is to first import everything except Variables, Paragraph Formats, and Character Formats. We then go back again and only import Paragraph Formats and Character Formats (see screenshot below). I know this sounds like a silly workaround, but this remains a mystery to be solved. Any thoughts? Character Format Issue
Hi, fellow Framers - I am working on cleaning up our EDD for our manuals, Frame 11. We have 3 types of alerts (note, caution, warning) that pretty much follow the same rules, so are set up the same as much as possible. I have the caution and warning doing exactly what I need them to do with Autonumber Format as Caution: or Warning: and the Character Format as Bold Underline. Since I am trying to match (where possible) our Arbortext DTD and styles, I need the Note: to be just Bold. However, the bold is not showing up. I can change it to everything else, including Bold DoubleUnderline or Blue, and it displays as prescribed. Just not plain bold. Spacing all works, nesting/indenting works fine. What can I be missing? Also, if you are good at table format structuring and are willing to answer questions, I am having trouble with those. Right now those are still just done in my template through table designer with only the very basic set up in the EDD. Thanks for any advice anyone can give on this! Re: Update All for Paragraph Tags in TOC
If the template wasn't documented well enough that you can use it successfully, I'd bet that it's not designed properly either. RE: Update All for Paragraph Tags in TOC
Okay, so here's what I did: 1. Place copy of old template TOC file somewhere outside the folder (just in case) 2. Drop new template TOC file into directory with other files and rename it to the previous file name used for the TOC in that book 3. Confirm that chapter names and headings in chapter files align with TOC headings in new template. 4. Make sure there is no TOC file in the open Framemaker book (if so, delete it) 5. You should now see an Add feature in the menu bar. 6. Click on Add and select Table of Contents. 7. In the dialog box, move over the items you want to appear in the TOC. Be sure to include the Index Title TOC. Click on Add. 8. Another dialog box will appear to update the entire book. Click Update. The disappointing result was I got a blank page, and all the other book files appeared to be corrupted as well. :( I closed the book without saving the files. Ugggh, what did I do wrong?? From: Craig Ede [mailto:craig...@hotmail.com] Sent: Wednesday, April 29, 2015 5:53 PM To: Linda Garneau Subject: RE: Update All for Paragraph Tags in TOC [Offlist] You'll want to manipulate the tags listed on the reference page that defines which tags are gathered together to be the TOC (each of them will end in TOC). Using the old TOC file will require doing some a bunch of clean-up work (not very efficient), so... The easiest thing is to just drop you new template TOC file in the directory with the other files and then rename it to the name used for the TOC in that book. Then from within the book make sure you set up the TOC to grab the correct headings (your new heading names). Everything else should just fall right into place then -- easy peesy. That's what templates are for. In fact, your new template should have a book file associated with it (with all the generated files set up properly). You can just replace your old book file with the new one and then add the necessary chapter files around/between (in, with and under) the generated file like the TOC, and (Voila!) when you generate the book you'll get your new TOC. (This assumes your template designer is designing an entire template for books and not just a new chapter file, which is an incomplete job.) Hope this is helpful. I know I'm behind the curve and responding after a lot of other responses. In this particular file, the paragraph tags for content headings (HeadVC1, HeadVC2, etc.) are labeled differently from the tags for content headings in the template TOC (HeadTOC1, HeadTOC2, etc). It will let me select one heading or a group of headings to update, but it won't let me do an Update All. It takes FOREVER to update every heading, one by one, to the correct tag in the template. Is there a way I can apply the tags from the new template to all the tags in the current doc at once? Thanks! Robert, I think you just answered our question. The answer is NO, I did not have the While Updating Remove: Other Format/Layout Overrides box checked in the Import Formats dialog box. That makes perfect sense. It sounds like maybe your template is not designed correctly. How many files does it include and what are their names? ___ You are currently subscribed to framers as arch...@mail-archive.com.
