acrobat and reader conflicts RE: TIME URGENT ... Missing Adobe PDF printer driver

2013-10-05 Thread Craig Ede
Well, if Reader is so incompatible with Acrobat it would be a GREAT idea if
Adobe's installation software for Reader checked for an installation of Acrobat
before installing itself. (Duh!) -Hint to Adobe

That being said, except for this single problem I've had no other conflicts
with Reader and Acrobat being installed together. But there really is no need
for installing both of them. I thought I was installing only the browser
plug-in when I updated via the Norton security suggestion.

As Dave Stamm pointed out, it is highly likely that your problem was caused by
conflicts between multiple versions of Acrobat/Reader; and Dov Isaacs, Adobe's
PDF guru, has warned against multiple installations countless times.

If you have Acrobat, do NOT install Reader!

Acrobat and Adobe Reader have numerous components that have similar
functionality and can cause conflicts on a machine. The most prevalent among
these conflicts involves the plug-ins for rendering PDF files in the browser,
PDFMaker inside Office Applications, and the Adobe PDF printer.

RE: TIME URGENT ... Missing Adobe PDF printer driver

2013-10-04 Thread Dave.Stamm

Perhaps this is evidence that Dov Isaacs' cautions that having both Acrobat and
Reader installed on one workstation can cause problems are true. I never
disbelieved his cautions, but I also didn't see evidence - until recently.

Here, my employer's standard is to allow both programs to be installed on one
workstation. For me, the evidence of conflict was that, after a corporate
push of an update, a command in a pop-up menu in Acrobat disappeared. The
command had been there and I had used it before the update.

¿My fix? Because I have administrator privileges, I summarily removed Reader
and repaired Acrobat. All was well again.

As usual, YMMV.

Make sure you select Acrobat (not Reader) as the application to open you PDFs.
You can do this by selecting File Properties for

Update your Adobe FrameMaker and Acrobat applications via the update function.

I think all this re-installation talk is overkill.

Re: TIME URGENT ... Missing Adobe PDF printer driver

2013-10-01 Thread Robert Lauriston
FrameMaker has a bundled version of Distiller and the Adobe PDF printer
driver. If they get messed up, and repairing FrameMaker doesn't work, then
you need to reinstall FrameMaker.

 As an FYI:

Some hyperlinks in FrameMaker documents do not seem to output with PDF
generators like Nitro PDF and a few others that I have tested so far. Most
are good in general though (of course, I am not sure why Nitro choked on
 your document!).

Anyway, so far, my tests show only Adobe Acrobat doing the “right thing”
for the links, but I am planning on working with a company who makes a PDF
writer – they have expressed interest to add this support. So, if you have
links in your document, stick with Adobe Acrobat for now ...

P.S. Some LaTeX editors can create PDF with links. I particularly like
TeXstudio (from http://texstudio.sourceforge.net/). All my *new* specs
are now created as LaTeX files instead of FrameMaker, and this editor is
generating excellent PDF output for them.

 Hi,

the main question is if you still have Acrobat and Distiller installed on
 your computer or not.

I also have this problem: FM does not recognize the Distiller, but it
nevertheless does in fact produce a ps-file, a .tps-file (which would
normally handed over automatically to Distiller).

I then just take this file and drag it on to the Distiller and have my PDF.

But if Acrobat has really vanished completely, you could use the FM 8
distiller plugin which is part of the FM installation DVD (maybe via the
repair option, I am not sure).

Or: You could install any other PDF printer like Tiny PDF, PDF24 or
whatever you like... Just check the Internet for something suitable.

You can do this by selecting File > Properties for
any PDF.

Update your Adobe FrameMaker and Acrobat applications via the update function.

I think all this re-installation talk is overkill.

TIME URGENT ... Missing Adobe PDF printer driver

2013-09-30 Thread VLM TechSubs
Hmm, good idea, but how? I tried a repair installation, that didn?t solve the
problem. Is there another way to do just a Distiller
installation from the Frame install? I?ll have to check this out more
carefully, thanks for the idea.

Seems to me you should do a partial reinstallation of your FM, installing
Distiller. Some other install of another pdf application
might have damaged it.

Hi,

the main question is if you still have Acrobat and Distiller installed on your
computer or not.

I also have this problem: FM does not recognize the Distiller, but it
nevertheless does in fact produce a ps-file, a ".tps"-file
(which would normally handed over automatically to Distiller).

I then just take this file and drag it on to the Distiller and have my PDF.

But if Acrobat has really vanished completely, you could use the FM 8 distiller
plugin which is part of the FM installation DVD
(maybe via the "repair" option, I am not sure).

Or: You could install any other PDF printer like Tiny PDF, PDF24 or whatever
you like... Just check the Internet for something
suitable.

VLM TechSubs:

Aack! I?m at the end of this project, and I went to Save As PDF. Frame 8 (Win 7
x64) reports that it cannot find the Adobe PDF
printer driver. I know what happened
I had someone ?helping me?, and that person ?accidentally cleaned it up?.
Needless to say,
that person is no longer helping me! :)

Meanwhile
how can I get this driver back. Do I download a complete Frame 8 installation
and install over the one I have? (I do
have the S/N, of course.) Or is there another, more direct solution?

Thanks!

TIME URGENT ... Missing Adobe PDF printer driver

2013-09-30 Thread Robert Lauriston
FrameMaker has a bundled version of Distiller and the Adobe PDF printer
driver. If they get messed up, and repairing FrameMaker doesn't work, then
you need to reinstall FrameMaker.

There is an update function from the menu system for both FrameMaker
(Help>Updates) and Acrobat (Help>Check for Updates). From FrameMaker this
launches the Adobe Application Manager on my system which allows updates to
all installed Adobe products.

The Adobe Application Manager can also be run directly from the start menu.
This may not be available to everyone. It might be a part of either of the

Hi,

the main question is if you still have Acrobat and Distiller installed on your
computer or not.

I also have this problem: FM does not recognize the Distiller, but it
nevertheless does in fact produce a ps-file, a ".tps"-file (which would
normally handed over automatically to Distiller).

I then just take this file and drag it on to the Distiller and have my PDF.

But if Acrobat has really vanished completely, you could use the FM 8 distiller
plugin which is part of the FM installation DVD (maybe via the "repair" option,
I am not sure).

Or: You could install any other PDF printer like Tiny PDF, PDF24 or whatever
you like... Just check the Internet for something suitable.

TIME URGENT ... Missing Adobe PDF printer driver

2013-09-29 Thread VLM TechSubs
Yes Zaeem, and thank you!

I sometimes get the impression that Adobe Acrobat has a few ?undocumented
features? going on. :)

Acrobat is VERY expensive. Everything from Adobe is very expensive, IMO. :):)
So I imagine that your work will be welcomed by many people! Will you include
PDFmarks support?

Interesting comment about LaTeX. I am aware of it, but not familiar with it.
Does it work under Windows, or only Linux?

Thanks !

As an FYI:

Some hyperlinks in FrameMaker documents do not seem to output with PDF
generators like Nitro PDF and a few others that I have tested so far. Most are
good in general though (of course, I am not sure why Nitro choked on your
document!).

Anyway, so far, my tests show only Adobe Acrobat doing the ?right thing? for
the links, but I am planning on working with a company who makes a PDF writer ?
they have expressed interest to add this support. So, if you have links in your
document, stick with Adobe Acrobat for now ...

Z

P.S. Some LaTeX editors can create PDF with links. I particularly like
TeXstudio (from http://texstudio.sourceforge.net/). All my new specs are now
created as LaTeX files instead of FrameMaker, and this editor is generating
excellent PDF output for them.

Thanks for this kind response, Tino.

I did not have Acrobat/Distiller on my system, so I had to install something.

I did try using Nitro PDF Pro 8, for which I have a full license, but it choked
when I tried to print the whole book using its PDF printer driver. I suppose I
could have tried others, but when I received Art?s suggestion, I just went with
that, and it has worked out fine.

Easier would be to download the full Acrobat eval and install that.
Reinstalling Frame is probably overkill and might modify your setup, which
you probably don't want to do at this point.
Remember that the new Acrobat install may need to have job options setup to
