Re: [Audyssey] electronic games

2006-07-09 Thread Ken the Crazy
That actually seems to be a tradition with the Downey family. Not only my
brother but all his friends with him jumped not only from the roof, but also
from the big TV tower--remember the days of TV antennas...
Then when I got older my nephews started doing it, and my niece as well. I
told them they were crazy, but none of them ever got hurt doing it.
Here in Norwalk Ohio they do something even more dangerous. There is a
trestle overlooking part of the reservoir that is about 60 feet above the
water, and kids jump into the water. If you throw a rock down off the
trestle into the reservoir it takes about two seconds for the rock to splash
down--that's how far a jump it is. Knowing that kids have died doing just
that in the past, these crazy teens--some of my wife's family members among
them, do it anyway. That's why when people complain about trampolines I
just laugh.

OK this is going to sound retarded, but I had this toy called a
 hippity-hop
or something. It was like a big rubber ball with a handle. You sat on
 it,
grabbing onto the handle and hop. Then the ball bounces and you feel the
effect and bounce along yourmerry way. I know, sounds totally unfun but as
 a
child I loved it. Always was too easily amused. LOOLOLOOLOLOLOLOLOLOL
Anyway, this pogostick thing mademe think of it. OHH yeah, funny story
about pogo sticks. had a friend in a talent show who bounced on a pogo
stick while squeaking a melody on his earlobe. I kid you not, he could do
this. Was pretty incredable and I would've given it an A+++
But unfortunately my music teacher didn't think squeaking melodies on your
earlobe counted as talent, even though it was done on the percarious perch
 of a pogostick.

 Hi, Maria.
Well, a pogo stick is a long stick, kind of like a broom handle, with
two places on each side of the bottom to place your feet. At the very
bottom is a part usually made out of rubber. The idea is to hold on to
the upper handle, stand on the two places for your feet and hop or
bounce around on it. I can say from experience you need good balance or
you will go flying off or bounce right on to your face or flat on your
 bottom.
They are rather fun, but like most toys for children once deamed unsafe
for kids just got to step in and take them away.

Anyway, I know about the pumpkin throwing contest. I think it's pretty
awesome. As far as throwing phones, that was obviously inspired by one too
many calls from telemarketers or bill collectors. It seems quite natural
once you really think about it.

 Hi Ken,
Unfortunately, a big trampoline won't work at all in the flat where I'm
staying, had to get a small one. You can jump quite high, when I put it
 down
to jump I have to be careful I'm not directly under lights!
Chris, I also had one of those balls, they were very fun! I'll never
 forget
I got it for Christmas one year.
Since I've also not been able to find a pogo stick, my question is, can
 all
people use them, what I mean is, adults can of course not use some things
because of weight. The thing that got me onto pogo sticks, is that I
 really
love jumping high distances, and I saw this thing on the internet about
 the
pogo stick world championships, where men were bouncing around on these
things, so I reckoned that, even though I'm an adult, I will also do
something crazy like that. By the way, their was also a thing about the
World Championship for mobile phone throwing in Finland (this guy won by
throwing his phone over 200 M, I think the phones were sponsored by
 Nokia),
and their was another thing about, in some town in America, the had a
competition of pumpkin throwing competition, but not people throwing them,
people invented catapults, cannons, and all weird machinery to 'chuck
 their
 pumpkin the furtherist!'

 Hi, Phil.
The view map mode says nothing when you are in an empty area. So if you
pointed the arrow say down and it said sand, and then you went up it
would say the word nothing until it came to an item or the ceiling. At
which point it would say the word ceiling. If you continued going up you
might find a layer of dirt or sand on that ceiling, and more nothings,
 another ceiling, etc
Where this feature is really nice if you are standing on a ladder per
say you could find out which way the ladder is running.

 Hi, Brandon.
As for monsters that is as good as it gets besides totally altering the
sound volume factor I have written for the game. That's as good as I can
get it in my technical know-how and not use Virtual 3D buffers.
DirectSound using true 3D wouldn't be able to handle more than 100
sounds at once, and that is overkill for a 2D game.
As for the sounds behind walls not much I can do about that one either
without some very complex function to switch sounds on and off when you
enter certain rooms. The way it works now sounds are switched on when
you get to a certain distance to it, and off when you are out of that
distance. It doesn't matter of course if you are on the other side of
 the wall.
Then, again in real life often times if you put your ear to a wall you
can hear radios, tv sets, etc in certain rooms so this might be a
realistic aspect depending on how thick the walls are.

512 or so if you want to run apps like Word, Excel, games, etc.
Otherwise XP will run, but it will drag quite a bit using virtual memory

That said XP is nice to your system compared to what Windows Vista Beta

Re: [Audyssey] My thoughts on the MOnty Patch

2006-07-09 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi, Bryan.
If you land directly on a monster it is instant death. If you land next
to one you will lose health points only.
However, that said I did notice one small bug left after jumping. I just
found out in my last game if you jump and land on an item such as a coin
rather than picking it up Angela will fall and die. I'm going to have to
patch this miner bug and correct this, but other than that I think the
new patch is pretty stable.

Bryan Peterson wrote:
 Hi Thomas and all,
Well, just downloaded the Monty Patch. I must say I'm very impressed.
Two weeks to fix all those bugs? Maybe it's just me but it seems
 pretty fast.
I like the new jumping feature (though it did take some getting used
to when you're trying to grab that gem to your left while you're
climbing a rope). The view mode was pretty cool as well. I did still
notice one or two spots where I'd die unexpectedly while jumping, but
I'm beginning to wonder about that. Of the two times this has happened
to me since downloading and installing the patch, neither of them
occurred when there wasn't a monster of one kind or another in the
immediate area. The first time it happened while I was grabbing the
scroll piece and there was the rolling skull right there. It stands to
reason that while jumping, Angela hit the skull and it must have been
able to hit her in just the right way that it proved fatal. The second
time happened while I was jumping over the lava pits and the spider
was right there. Is it possible that monsters can knock you off edges
if they hit you just right? I know this can happen in games like
Castlevania, and it happened quite frequently in Zelda II: Adventure
of Link. Sometimes an Octorock or Moblin could hit you while you were
jumping over a lava pit and the attack would knock you backwards into
the lava. I'm wondering if we're seeing some of the same thing in
Monty. Like I said, this has only happened so far when there's been a
monster right there, like right by the scroll or the torch (although I
haven't died while grabbing the torch since I installed the patch).
All in all it seems much more solid and I have noticed a marked
improvement in my ability to time my jumps over the snakes and
spiders, both thanks to the new monster detection and the better audio
processing. Makes me look forward to the rest of the game. And now
that I have my new Laptop with WinXP (although the new JAWS I'm
installing on it isn't here yet), I can download Monty on my own
machine and see how well it works. Apparently it has an 80-gig hard
drive so hopefully there shouldn't be too many problems with the
 performance.

It ain't pretty when the pretty leaves you with no place to go.

What do people think of the game? I like it a lot, and have purchased it.
Has anyone been able to unlock more modes besides the first two? If so, how
much money do you need to get to do so?

 Hi.
Well, I noticed I had an old handheld game laying around the house,
don't know the name of it, but it is fully accessible. Basicly, it asks
you math questions like 5+5 and you enter the number in on a keypad much
like a calculator. As you got better the math problems got harder. Was a
cool game and as the problems got harder you were given less time to
solve the problem kind of a cool game.

Re: [Audyssey] My thoughts on the MOnty Patch

2006-07-09 Thread Bryan Peterson
I eventually did figure that out about the monsters. That actually makes
quite a lot of sense and I've played many other games where landing right on
a monster is instant deth. I myself didn't notice the other bug but aybe I
just haven't jumped on gold in so long that I never had occasion to find
that bug. I agree. The patch does seem quite stable. Now that I've got my
Laptop I can put Monty on that instead of on my mom's computer. I probably
won't have very many games on there since it's mainly intended for college,
but I probably will have one or two installed to play during the evenings in
the dorm after I'm done studying.

 Hi Thomas and all,

 pretty fast.

 Hmmm,
Unfortunately the patch doesn't work on my computer. I changed the path
to C:\Programme\USA Games\Montezumas Revenge where my Monty is installed
and it said 11 files unzipped successfully. However when I start a new
game then, I can't view the map for example and still die when I'm
jumping. Any help would be great!
 Best regards,
 Robin.

Actually this is not always true. I don't install games to default
locations. I make sure all games go into c:\program files\games and in
the games program group too. So I don't just install to default
locations. The patch in this case assumes you did the default so of
course if you did then you need not change anything. However I think in
Robin's case and mine for sure the default location was changed so the
patch needs to know this location.

You shouldn't need to change the path.
