Re: [Audyssey] Ken's Sound RTS Sound Pack!
Hi Ken, A user of Goldwave told me that the plugin gave the choice between 44.1Khz 128Kbps Stereo and 44.1Khz 120Kbps Mono. If you can select it, the second option is great. Anyway, if you want, you can send me the 44.1Khz wav files so I convert and include them in the next release. You only need to send the new files since I have the 44.1Khz wav files from Bryan's sound pack 3, but you can send all if it's simpler for you. To convert to ogg, I use oggenc2.exe or Audacity. With Audacity 1.3.3 beta, you can export several files at a time. oggenc2.exe is a command line tool I found at http://www.rarewares.org/ogg-oggenc.php (there was a link to this website from www.vorbis.com). Re: [Audyssey] .Net 2.0 vs 3.0 and Vista support.
Hi Thomas, I don't know about present or past programs not running on Vista etc. I can still run dos programs in XP as well as programs like Cool Edit from Windows 3.1. Heck even here on the list the old BBS door games and other dos text adventure games are still very popular. I just don't buy into the scare of everything has to be the newest, biggest, best to be of any use. BFN - Original Message - Hi Damien and all, Let me refraze the Vista question so my question is more clear. I am trying to figure out how many of you will be upgrading to Vista over the next year, and not gather data on how many are planning to stick with XP. XP works fine with .Net 3 and DirectX so no compatibility issues there I can see. However, Windows 2000 does have known issues with .Net 3, and one reason if I choose to put more future long-term support into Vista I can not garentee 2000 support. Damien, as far as you upgrading or not upgrading that is a question of time. In 5 years any new system you will buy will be totally Vista compatible. It will be unlikely anything earlier than Vista will work on such a system. Who knows,in the next year that can happen. Point is, sooner or later the change is inevitable unless you plan to buy one of Del's Linux notebooks or a Mac, etc Vista is our future like it or not. Re: [Audyssey] Gamers Digest, Vol 18, Issue 264
Hi, about microsoft flight simulator: I'm a pilot of a virtual varig airline in Brazil and I'm blind. At first, escuse me, because my english isn't very good. I hope that you can understand me. To begin, is needed remember that flight simulator is not a game, it is a program to training future pilots of aircraft and its aim is make all procedures of one flight correctly. Begining the user can operate the aircraft in full automatic, to after learn fly manually. One program most used to comunication with the airtrafic controlers with voice is the team speak, and have many servers in all languages in all world. The flight simulator originally is not acessible, but using some programs the blinds can control the airplanes of departure airport in gate, going to taxiways, runway, and take off, after programing the autopilot, make all route, and touchdown in destination airport. The best version to use with screen readers is flight simulator 2002 and can find it in programs as for example emule, shareaza, kazaa, and others, because it isn't bought. But the flight simulator isn't to persons that like to play, it is to fall in love to aviation, and frustrates whom thinks it is only a game. But this is needed many studies of theories of aviation, to after install the programs listed below. fs navigator www.fsnavigator.com this program makes the flight plan, and control the speed, altitude, vertical speed, aprouch, backcourse... all comands of airplane are controled by fs navigator. other program is project magenta sounds. www.projectmagenta.com the project magenta sounds includes the voice alerts of the G.P.W.S. ground position warning system, that informs altitude and alerts when we are near of ground. FSUIPC.DLL HTTP://www.schiratti.com this dll is required to project magenta sounds, and have many facilities to make hotkeys with for example I use + or - of the numeric pad, for increase or decrease value of vertical speed, and I was configured the ctrl+shift+m to activate the sounds of localizers when is in final aprouch to touchdown in airports that have aprouching with ILS, and the shift+. (dot) to arm autobrake after touchdown. in the website www.avsim.com you can download new aircrafts, panels, sounds, cenery, tutorials and programs to flight simulator. in www.airliners.net you find data about all models of aircrafts. and in HTTP://worldaerodata.com you can find all informations about all airports in the world, including icao codes and information about the runways. to finish, read the page of Miles Hilton Barber, the first blind that piloted the real airplane from England to Australia, the homepage is www.mileshilton-barber.com more informations, contact-me. regards. We can set the routes up just like Jim kitchen's trucker game. Also I would like to have multiple planes in the game so you can select which model jet you want to fly and different routs so you can go to ramdomized routes instead of the same route all the time. Plus we should have game creator menu in the game as well. I think gamers would like to create their own planes with step by step instructions or prompt levels, or routes etc. It is just an idea. your friend, Jason --- Gamers mailing list __ Gamers@audyssey.org If you want to leave the list, send E-mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] You can make changes or update your subscription via the web, at http://audyssey.org/mailman/listinfo/gamers_audyssey.org. Re: [Audyssey] .Net 2.0 vs 3.0 and Vista support.
The only thing i got to say about this is, Your right not everything has to be the latest and greatest. however, with the blind getting computers from orgs and other places. The op on that system is going to be the latest and greatest. Why because that is what is new and that is what they get. So if you want your games to play on those computers. you better move up with the latest and greatest or quit. Dos is out and was in 96 when win95 made it the standard for computers. Some of those old ops had real power and very stable. But now we have to be real and use the tools and ops of now not yester year. its not a scare its really progress. Re: [Audyssey] .Net 2.0 vs 3.0 and Vista support.
Hi Jim, I'm a little confused by your post, but I think we are talking about two differen things here. First, the .Net Framework 3.0 is not really supported on Windows 2000, but is well supported on Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, and Vista of course. Second, I was merely pointing out in the post you were responding to that in five years time hardware will be different and I'm not certain how well XP will support that hardware. Yes, you have a point newer is not always cinonomous with better. However, holding bac, not embracing change, is also not always desirable. In this case there is no harm in waiting for Vista to become more stable. In a couple of years the os should have most of the bugs and early problems worked out of the system. Re: [Audyssey] .Net 2.0 vs 3.0 and Vista support.
Hi Trouble, Well said. I don't have a problem with anyone having around an old system to play dos games, and older programs. I have a 98 SE system in my living room which still acts a gaming machine for older stuff like Tomb Raider, and some of my older games. I never said that older stuff is not useful. It is just unrealistic to refuse to upgrade to something newer when the time comes to upgrade. Now, I am not saying if you are flat broke, you have other things you need to buy, etc that you need to buy an upgrade. However, if you have the time, the money, and want to stick with something current sticking to older stuff doesn't make that much sense to me. (dot) to arm autobrake after touchdown. in the website www.avsim.com you can download new aircrafts, panels, sounds, cenery, tutorials and programs to flight simulator. in www.airliners.net you find data about all models of aircrafts. and in HTTP://worldaerodata.com you can find all informations about all airports in the world, including icao codes and information about the runways. to finish, read the page of Miles Hilton Barber, the first blind that piloted the real airplane from England to Australia, the homepage is www.mileshilton-barber.com more informations, contact-me. regards. Doesn't seem like too much fun to me, but I still want to try it out on the off chance that this thing really is fully accessible. I wonder if the combat sims are or can be made accessible in any way? That sounds like much more fun. - Original Message - From: Yohandy [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Tuesday, August 28, 2007 7:19 AM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] anyone play microsoft flight simulator For a minute there, I thought you were saying that blind people could fly planes. lol. [Audyssey] seeing with sound
I just wanted to bring the vOICe back to your attention again because of some new research they are doing, that of OCR recognition. Re: [Audyssey] Try the nations states game out
Well anything you like really. My first nation was a deliberately Cruel and horrific place ruled over by the evil dictater smilin Tony (nothing to do with the then Prime minister of England of course, lol!). that was Cruelnida, where the national animal was the Cruelnida citizen, and hunting of it was totally legal! But then I decided I needed somewhere a bit more pleasant, so created the nation of Empathy ethics, which was actually quite a nice place. I then went off nationstates for a while, and when I got back both nations had been deleted, so I created the amazing nation of Pirate tenors (I'd been in a performance of pirates of Penzance so it vaguely made sense). At the moment, due to a bit more performing, I'm ruler of the horribly harmonious chorus of Terrifying tenors! So, your nation's name can be anything you like. Beware the Greu! (and the tenor). Hi Ken, I just used gold wav to convert one of your sounds in your RTS pack from 1092.wav to 1092.ogg 305 kb to 45 kb. When you pick save as and hit o then tab to file atributes, there are94 different choices. the first 11 choices are stereo,44.1 kbps the next 11 are mono, 44.1 kbps The next 11 are stereo 22 kbps the next 11 are mono 22 kbps. and so on to the last choice, mono 8 kbps I am sure the twelth choice will give you the best mono results. - Original Message - From: Ken the Crazy [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Wednesday, August 29, 2007 1:34 PM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Ken's Sound RTS Sound Pack! Re: [Audyssey] Try the nations states game out
You can use any name for your nations. How ever it has to be a name that isn't in the lists because when I was trying to put names that I thought the game didn't have the check nname link kept saying that this name was already used and it is reserve because a former nation had already used it. So think of any name but always use the check name link before filling out the rest of the form. yourfriend, Jason - Original Message - From: marcatony [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Gamers Discussion list gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Wednesday, August 29, 2007 9:51 AM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Try the nations states game out Hi I looked at the game; however, I was wondering what type of names people use for their countries? Re: [Audyssey] Try the nations states game out
Well Jason, unfortunately the only nation I've got going is Terrifying tenors. Though the admins say you can revive a nation if you forget to logue in and it gets deleted, in practice I've found this not to happen. It's a shame, sinse I'd really like Cruelnida back, though I don't know what I'd do about Smilin tony, sinse we've had a change of prime ministers sinses sinse then, and I can't think of quite as interesting a knick name for Gordon Brown lol! Re: [Audyssey] Try the nations states game out
Nope, everything is on a fairly standardized web page. all the nations are devided up into various regions, and each region has a message board where you can chat to the other people in your region if you wish. This isn't anything like a full bb system, just a list of the last few posts and a text box to type your message. I think a lot of the politics in the game is done this way, but mostly I've just used it for friendly chatting to other people in the region. I use Hal myself, and the game works fine, but sinse it's all fairly standard web pages I don't see any reason why Jaws, or window eyes or any screen reader that will work on the net would have trouble with it.
