Re: [Audyssey] shades of doom recordings
Hi thanvin. You've obviously killed the inteligence bases, and now just need to find the bridge. The river runs across the north of the area, and the only way to corss it is the bridge, so if you keep going along the river you'll come to it eventually. what you might have trouble hereing is the phrase bridge abutment which just means the two walls on the sides of the bridge. As I said, if you look in the manual there's a complete walkthru which even I believe has the coordinates of the bridge on it. Re: [Audyssey] castaways: communal enemy.
Hi jeremy. As I said before, I'm actually looking forward to even more complexity in the game, and upgrades is one way to go for this, afterall as communities get larger and people do more specialist work, finer craft items can be produced, larger houses, better cured leather, luxury goods, furniture etc. #Eventually it'd be great to have a game where it was possible to go from 14 people,to a full blown fortress city with castle, siege engines, machine shops, well established farms and specialized industries such as glass blowing or pottery, in short grow to a real metropolis. I like this idea, and I will keep it in mind when I brainstorm new missions. Hi Jeremy. one idea might be to have certain buildings locked by upgrades, just as games like sim city have. obviously the grander your community, the more buildings it has, and the more settled it's people, the more stuff can be built. now we're getting to building monasteries and the like, i think we're working up from village to town status, and as such, town houses would make more sense, afterall frequently in the 19th century you'd get a couple of families living together in one larger house, rather than just small one room cabin affairs that house four people. Myself, I'd suggest either A, making certain buildings only available at larger population sizes, or B, having other structures such as a town hall which need to be built to effectively show the status of the growing community and therefore unlock another round of structures. The same could apply to other buildings besides houses too, either as upgrades or new buildings, like turning your textile shop to a clothing mill, or your butchers shop to a slaughter yard. Hi john. funny, I always thought raul used sterrio mikes which he mentioned. That sounds wy more complex than I really want to go, heck I don't even have a mike for my computer at the moment, and even when i did, i could never get any of that recording shenanigans to work. The only reliable method I have is my rowland voice recorder, which will reccord either directly through it's sterrio mikes, or through a sterrio cable plugged into the input. if I could get my voice to come out of my computer speakers along with whatever the game was, I could run everything through my rowland, but even when i had a working mike there was no way of doing that, so I've concluded the hole recording thing is far too much trouble, and will just have to stick to using the rowland's sterrio mikes in future. Gallegos r...@raulgallegos.com Sent: Wednesday, August 31, 2011 12:09 AM To: gamers@audyssey.org Subject: Re: [Audyssey] shades of doom recordings Hi, good guess, but that's way too complicated. Actually what I did was set the recorder to record all output from the sound card. This includes wave output, and mic output and line in output. In my recording game situation, only wave and microphone were needed. This way it's just one single recording and it already has my voice in it as I play. Far simpler than how you described it. *smile*. -- Raul A. Gallegos 4 out of 3 people have trouble with fractions Twitter: http://twitter.com/rau47 Facebook: http://facebook.com/rgallegos74 Blog: http://www.RaulGallegos.com On 8/30/2011 6:22 PM, john wrote: Hi dark, The difference here is that Raul isn't really recording from speakers. What he's doing is recording the output from his soundcard, and mixing in a recording of his voice. The way you would accomplish this would be to: 1. Set your default recording device to be your soundcard. I'm not sure how you do this on xp, but it's somewhere in the sound properties, under recording. 2. Once you've got your machine set up to record from the soundcard, you can use any recording program (the default one works fine) set up something to capture your voice. THis could be your recorder. 3. Start both recordings are nearly (as close as possible for mixing purposes) the same time, and begin playing. as you play, everything that your computer sends out will be recorded, and your voice, will be taken care of by your recorder. 4. Once your done recording, get both recordings somewhere you have access to them. If possible, make sure they're wav files. 5. The following presumes you have the windows xp sound recorder program installed and working. Once you're done recording, open up one of the files (preferably the one you started first). Once that's open, (guessing here on the menus) go to special (or edit possibly) and choose mix with file. A dialogue should pop up, point it to your other file. If you opened your voice recording, point the recorder to your soundcard recording, or vice versa. 6. Finish mixing the files by choosing ok or mix (I forget which one it is). Once your done mixing, fix the volume of the file so that you can here everything. If the soundcard recording is at a low volume, candle your changes, open that recording and raise the volume. If the voice is low, do the same. It shouldn't be to hard to get the two file to nearly the same volume. 7. ONce you've got both files mixed and audible, save your changes. You now have a full recording with both your voice and stereo sound. If this is really confusing, your can download sound tap from www.nchsoftware.com and get that installed. This program will allow you to record directly from your soundcard, and if you have a microphone, it will allow you to record from both devices at once. The program has a fifteen day trial, and is entirely accessible. Hopefully this message made sense. Re: [Audyssey] aprone's games
It is nice knowing that Castaways is now officially out of beta. I still have plans to add more to the game, so hopefully people don't assume I am done working on it. My next plan is to take Lunimals out of beta, which will involve a few little bug fixes that I wrote down but never went back to do. Towers of war is also on my list, and it will include several fairly major code changes based on things I've learned to do differently since making that first audio game of mine. I've also been told that the updater and high score list for that game have stopped working, so I'll convert them over to using the new server that castaways runs on. It should make it stable, and we might even get more people playing the game again. Temporal might not actually come out of beta anytime soon since I was in the process off adding the super complicated mission 3 when I set the project aside. The boss at the end of mission 3 proved to be too much for me to code at the time, and in working on him I had to change around all of the code which handles the time travel. With that code hanging in limbo, I can't even recompile it to remove the beta status without spending loads of time either finishing the Mission 3 time traveling code, or changing everything back to how it was before Mission 3. Ugh. And I've also started on a new game, though I have done very little on it since I started adding the new multiplayer content to Castaways. I can't seem to stop myself from playing castaways haha! I honestly am having a lot of fun working together with people online. That new merchant cart and war tent has added a lot more fun to the game. Hi yohandi. You are right, and certainly I've played a lot of beta software in my time. however, my point was that there are! people who will wait for the full version and not try beta software on principle. It's a shame if people miss out on Aprone's work for such a very trivial reason, hence why I mentioned the change. Remember, that in making games, as in writing books, making films or anything else, sometimes you have to take into account what some people think even if it's not your own opinion. Beware the grue! Re: [Audyssey] castaways: communal enemy.
That's true. I like the idea of expanding the settlement further, but it can only happen if it will mesh nicely with the current game's foundation. I have a strong feeling that most of those ideas would end up being too much trouble, or too tacked on if I tried to add them to this game. The good thing about good ideas is that even if they can't be implemented now, there is always another game that will show up down the road which could have been specifically designed with those ideas in mind from the start. Who knows, maybe another developer will use them, or maybe there will be a Castaways 2 in the future. I like your line of thinking Dark, but one consequence would have to be a re-evaluation of the current resource model. Re: [Audyssey] castaways: communal enemy.
Hi Chris. That is true, and it is a problem which will need addressing. there are several things I can think of to do, maybe one or all of them could be considde3red. either A, introduce jobs of timber cruser and prospector, who will find more areas on the map worth working for stone or wood, afterall especially when it comes to stone and minerals, it can take a trained eye to spot them, and even with chopable trees, not all forest trees are useful. Creating the jobs would eventually lead to new stone and wood sites apeparing on the map as more was discovered. Another way, though one which might be a bit processer heavy, is introduce an explorer job which effectively expands the map size, with a random chance of more wood or stone cropping up, (columns after z could be a a, a b etc). this might be great for expanding the game into larger settlements later, but could be rather processer heavy. A third method, might be to have resources slowly grow back over time, afterall trees grow again, new semes of ore can be found, and there's always more stone. Perhaps a combination of several of these would be the answer. Beware the grue! Dark. - Original Message - From: Christopher Bartlett themusicalbre...@gmail.com To: 'Gamers Discussion list' gamers@audyssey.org Sent: Wednesday, August 31, 2011 3:52 PM Subject: Re: [Audyssey] castaways: communal enemy. Re: [Audyssey] Microsoft Flight simulator and Itsyourplane
Hello Nick, I understand your point of view, but I think you are a bit pretentious when you say I cover everything and more in my tutorial. Of course, your tutorial is very good and rather well covers the whole topic of flying with FS9 and ItsYourPlane, but I don't think that putting together and offering a way to download the work of several persons should be considered as a waste of time. I maintain my ofer to host the files of the BPP project, including your excellent tutorial. Nick, if you agree, I propose to upload your tutorial on my server so that we have a permanent link for the download. [Audyssey] castaways: depleting the resources
Hi Jeremy, Concerning depleting the resources in Castaways. Adding timber, stone and metal resources to the water sections could extend the resource base so that more could be found in the existing map. Often you can find those types of resources under water.
