[Audyssey] Rail Racer Subscription.

2008-12-19 Thread K. Matthew
Just wonder, I might have miss the email, But, why is it switching to pay
to play online? I've not played in awhile since I sold my laptop that had
the game activated on it. And just didn't felt like bothering with
activating on a machine that gets redone every three months due to all the
testing I do.

When is the battle version coming out?

Actually, keep trying till it do work. Also if you are running XP make sure
your speaker setting is set to 2.1 not on surround sound that will cause
problems as well.

Hi.

Well I'm finally trying out the Klango player, and it's not working
well at all.

Running it in normal mode I get the first menue with sapi speaking (though
I'm fairly certain not all the sounds), but then going to logue in or create
an account, or indeed anything bar exit causes complete and utter
silence and deadness that force me to quit the program.

Running in Dx mode i get menue sounds, and no sapi speech.

Apparently the player doesn't work with realtech hardware soundcards,
which I believe mine is, odd, as it's the first 3D audio application
I've ever! had trouble with at all.

How irritating, I rather fancied the media catalogue.

Yeah, I know, they going to be coming out with a big release around
Christmas. I found that if you restart your computer, give about 5 minutes
before loading the player other wise it'll keep crashing on you.

Hi everyone,
Over the last few months I have really been getting into interactive
fiction games, and really enjoy the old text adventures. As a result
that has me thinking of some possible game projects after Mysteries of
the Ancients and Raceway are released.
One idea I have been thinking of is producing a handful of USA Games
text adventures for Mac, Windows, and Linux that is similar to classic
if titles. With web based games like Sryth around I have discovered the
classic DND text adventure style game still can be quite addictive given
enough adventures and puzzles in it. What do you all think of this idea?
Cheers!

Hi.

Well, for whome it might concern, I'm trying allin play out, - partly
for interest, and partly to write reviews on audeasy.

Thus far I'm finding online texus holdem more fun than I expected.

i don't know about subscribing, - i actually wish I could subscribe to
fewer games for less cash (sinse the amagram game and possibly crazy eights
aren't half as much my thing),or just buy the games outright like Rail
racer.

But anyhow, I'm on all in play and probably will be for the next 15 days. My
knick is Dark phantom (for some reason it wouldn't accept either dark, or
any varient of dark empathy), so f anyone fancies facing me across the poker
table, I'm ready!

There was only one thing I didn't understand.
 What sounded like Gold Boys
Could it have been gold coins?
I noticed the pistol ammo didn't sound like it should but think that is
 probably a placeholder sound.
It would be nice to identify what she is shooting at or killing such as
 skeleton in 30 feet.
 and after killing it
 dead skeleton.
 Good work!

 Greetings gamers,
USA Games Interactive would like to announce the release of the long
awaited audio trailer for Mysteries of the Ancients Alpha 1. In this
trailer you will follow Angela Carter as she explores an underground
temple. However, unlike the full game Angela Carter has been given most
of her weapons at the beginning of the game so that we might better show
off some of her new weapons, attacks, and what is in store for later
 levels of the game
Developers note. .Do to financial reasons we have not been able to
purchase original music and have not yet completed adding original sound

effects to MOTA. Music and player sounds for the trailer have been

Re: [Audyssey] deff people

2008-11-10 Thread K. Matthew
Well, Thomas, the problem is, You would need a screen reader running in the
background to get the braille to work wouldn't you?

Sounds like a good Idea as far as health and all. But, might be a waist of
time. When I play your other game, I had no problem with needing a braille
to know my health and so forth. And the sound panning helpped a lot.

Correct me if I'm wrong about the Braille part. Just as I recalled, running
your game and a screen reader didn't go hand in hand.

Hi Matthew,
Speaking of people with partial loss of hearing or near deaf I've been
wondering on ways of improving mota ffor those with hearing as well as
visual disabilities. I was wondering if I add a textbox which will allow
you to use a braille display with the game if that would help.
Unfortunately, most of what it would display is health, strength,
location, and other stats. Though, you might be able to press a key and
have the braille display tell you the location of a centaur, skeleton,
harpy, or another monster. In your opinion would this be helpful?

Speaking of playing games for some folks that are either able to hear some.
You can still play three D games, as long as you can hear in one ear well
enough like me.

What I've done, is move the computer speakers, or should I say power sterio
speakers on my right side, the left speaker is on my right front, and the
right speakers is on my right back.

That way when playing like shades of Doom, or something, I can tell if it's
left or right, depending on where the sound is. Takes some getting used to
doing it.

2008-11-08 Thread K. Matthew
Well, I can answer this one. Since I'm pretty much labeled Blind/Deaf.
Yet, I can still hear some audio and play audio games.

But, any way. All in play, Kindom of loathing, uhm, thrist, furry-paws,
uhm, several others that I play with with nothing but Braille.

The question is, can the said person read Braille good enough and comprehend
the mechanics of games. If the person has been able to hear or see in the
past, makes it much easier.

If I remember correctly you could install linux on a Xbox and still switch
to playing xbox games. I think you had a boot screen at the start up.
Problem was, you had to get a mod chip and then find the flash for the chip
and software to make it all work. At the time the Xbox came out I was
already out of the Video Game biz. I used to Mod PS1's and other systems
for people. To be able to play out of state games and other things.

I have every system that was made since Atari up to the 360, only system I
don't have, and will not buy is the PS3. I love playing my Neo Geo. Street
Fighter rocks.

Hi Liam,
Truer words have never been spoken. I have heard a lot about the Linux
Geeks that were putting Linux on there game consoles like the XBox, but
it ended up just being totally pointless in the end. After they did that
the only games there could run were the games made specially for Linux
such as the open source version of Quake, Pengwuine Command, Ice
Breaker, Asteroids, KDE Packman, whatever. It was really a useless piece
of hardware after that.
Putting XP on your PS3 really amounts to the same thing. Big whoop. You
got XP on a Play Station. Now, go play your PC games on a console
instead of on a PC.

Better yet, why not use net play. I mean come on most people now and days
have two computers. Heck, I got 15 computers in this house hold alone.

Any way, net play or lan play how ever you want to call it should be
included in games. And have at least two keys when you buy a game if it is
a two player.

Hi Munawar,
Those are some very good points. About the only way to avoid such an
instance where a person would have to purchase an extra sound card or a
controller is make the two player mode turn based like in the classic
Atari games.
Take a game like Packman. Player 1 would start out zoom around the maze,
and if his/her Packman got eaten by a ghost the game then would speak a
message like player 2. Then, player 2 would play until his/her Packman
got eaten. Then, it is once again player 1's turn to play. This is
really the only logical way to do it for an audio only game I think.

Munawar Bijani wrote:
 Hi,
I think the real challenge here is not getting two input devices to
control two separate entities at the same time--this is very easily
done if the game is coded properly and made to accomodate very generic
input from the start--rather, preventing one player from being
confused by another's audio output would be difficult. For instance,
if SAPI outputs some messages, unless each player uses a different
voice, it would be difficult to tell whose status the engine is
outputting. Even if the game uses two different voices for both
players, and say if player 1 issues a status command and player 2 does
the same, player 1's status would be cut off (since in real time games
it would give player 1 and unfair advantage if player 2 has to wait
for player 1's status to finish.)

In contrast, in visual games, sound is not that big of a deal, and
splitting the screen into player 1 and player 2 areas is not difficult
to do--this is how the Nintendo 64 did it with 007: Golden Eye when
you initiated multiplayer mode; which made it easy to hook up four
controllers at the same time and play without any problems. The audio
equivalent of this, I would think, is to have the user install two
sound cards, and both players wear headsets plugged into either card.
Player 1's sound output would come out of card 1, and likewise for
player 2. However, the question then arises as to whether the user is
willing to spend the money to buy two cards (or one card, since the
computer most likely already has one sound card) which will cost about
$100, on top of the extra keyboard or joystick for a second input
device, on top of the price of the game, which would probably be
$30.00 minimum. As a developer, all this has to be factored in and you
get to your final answer of is it worth it to implement this
technology? Based on how the market currently is, probably not.

I'm guessin that would be possible, however, that wouldn't work unless you
bought a splitter to have each channel going to a head set or speakers.
Which, trying to tell a blind person how to do that can lead to a thread on

 HI all
while watching my favorite soapie I heard in the story that a mother and

her son is playing a psp game together.
I have no idea what the genre is, I guess its 3d or side scroller.
both of them have a joystick AND THEY TRY TO BEAT ONE ANOTHER.
IT WILL BE VERY NICE IF 2 PEOPLE COULD PLAY AN AUDIO GAME TOGETHER.
IT WILL BE NICE, IF ME AND MY MOTHER COULD PLAY SUPER DEEKOUT FOR

MY MOTHER IS FULLY SIGHTED BUT i CAN EASILY TEACH HER TO GET USED TO
PLAYING A GAME WITH ONLY SOUNDS.
THE ONLY GAME i KNOW OF WHERE 2 PEOPLE CAN PLAY SIMULTANEOUSLY IS
SNOWBALL WAR BUT YOU AND YOUR MATE HAVE TO USE THE SAME KEYBOARD
IS IT POSSIBLE TO MAKE AN AUDIO GAME WHERE YOU CAN CONNECT 2 KEYBOARDS

TO A PC SO THAT 2 PEOPLE CAN PLAY SIMULTANEOUSLY?
FOR example, the 2 people can see which of them can get to a coin first,
who of them can first get to a spawned item, etc.

Hi,
That is a good question. I'd have to say two of my favorite audio
games right now are Shades of Doom by GMA Games and Sarah by PCS
Games. As far as a style I am a big fan of full FPS type games. They
are much more realistic feeling, and more like the sighted games I use
to play before losing my vision.
I also like my own games like STFC because of the strategy elements
involved in playing. There are many ways a battle can be played out,
and if you very your decisions from game to game you never really get
the same game twice. Enemies will usually do a completely different
attack strategy everytime.

Hi,
That is a good question. I'd have to say two of my favorite audio games
right now are Shades of Doom by GMA Games and Sarah by PCS Games. As far as
a style I am a big fan of full FPS type games. They are much more realistic
feeling, and more like the sighted games I use to play before losing my
vision.
I also like my own games like STFC because of the strategy elements involved
in playing. There are many ways a battle can be played out, and if you very
your decisions from game to game you never really get the same game twice.
Enemies will usually do a completely different attack strategy everytime.

I'm running the latest build 8.4. Well not running, any way, I can get
Orca to start, and go through the install part of the OS, How ever, when I
get to the fifth part where you enter your name and password. I hit Alt-F
and nothing happens. I sit there for 20 minutes. And nothing happens.

So I try going into the Live version, get speech going, and nothing just sit
there with only Orca showing and that is it.

Hi Mike,
Right. I can certainly write a custom setup/installer to allow you to
customize the setup, and prompt you with some questions. As I said
earlyer I feel considering the number of different Linux operating
systems out there, many of them using different software packagement
tools, it might be further ahead to come up with something generic
anyway to install the software. Heck, I could write a simple shell
script to do that if I wanted.

Mike Reiser wrote:
I dunno, I just like that at least with win I can press enter and it
goes after a few questions. With a .deb file in linux this can be done
also and after the password is entered it will just extract it. That's
 what I like.

Hi.
I know that there are a load of people that are on here that do the tests at
blind-games.com forums.
Does anyone have any idea how to navigate the thing.
Its a mess.
I posted on there about it but I have no idea if it went in the right place
or if I should post to 2 places.
Truth of the matter is that I may have to quit, not saying I will at this
stage but this forum is a real pain.
I managed to post about the stuff I have managed to get from testing the
game however I wll be on vacation for 14 days starting this friday.
And thee when I return I will have updates, journals, blogs, email, etc to
do to my system as wel as others.
Then there is the forum.
I thought I could live with it yesterday but today, its got really bad.
Ok maybe I'm just not used to forums but can there be alternits for those
that don't like forums or have issues with them?
I know jason you are trying your best but this forum system is really doing
my head in.
Can you please try to fix it?
Sorry all for posting this on here but I thought I should really ask.
If anyone has ideas how I can navigate things ok then tell me please.
If I need firefox or something I'll do it, I have ie6 for now but if its
easier I can do it easily.

2008-08-09 Thread K. Matthew
Yes this game works in vista. I had no problem with it even when it came out
from version 1.0. What are you having a problem with?

Make sure, that if you got version 1.0 of the retail version that you apply
all patches, and also install the June 2008 9.0C full and dot net 1.1 for
everything to work. I found out the hard way that if you do not install all
the patches from his site. if you have only V1.0 and try just to install
1.53 from 1.0. It will error out because there will be files missing.

I have sent a email to Che about this.

Re: [Audyssey] my oppinion to the game marked

2008-08-02 Thread K. Matthew
How about selling the games on a locked thumb drive and only can be updated
by the author and so forth. That way nobody has a way to get to the program
files, and also have a little space on the drive were they can add sounds
and so forth onto the drive that the program it self checks for.

Might take longer for a person to get there game, but heck it would solve
all the hacking issues.

Peace.

Hi Guys,
This reminds me. I would like your opinions on how you are willing to
register a game. When I say register, I don't even just mean registering in
the normal way, I mean any way of confirming that you have paid or whatever.
There are a bunch of ways that I could do it. I could just ask for a
username and key, or Product ID and key, or have a server password, or we
can go the online registration method. I could ask the user to log into an
account, where they can change their password, etc.
It doesn't have to be what I've listed, I'd love new ideas from those of you

that don't want any of these systems.
Thanks.
Regards,
Damien.

I don't buy audio games anymore because developers are tying them to your
 system.
If you have to reformat, or replace your hard drive you have to send in
 for
 a new key.
That can get to be a pain after a while.
Most people I talk to feel the same way.

 Claudio,

The reason that there are so few audio games being released is because
very few people buy them, or even download the free audio games.

I think it was Che sometime last year who was lamenting that his game,
which has been spoken of well by people who play it, hadn't been
downloaded as much as he'd hoped. And his game is free.

As Thomas has said, programming games ain't easy. Even if you are doing
 it
for free, it takes a lot of effort. (Though Jim Kitchen seems to have
found the sweet spot as far as designing games that can actually get
 finished.)

And if you are trying to keep a company afloat, you go where the money
 is.
Otherwise your electricity gets cut off.

On a positive note, here are some things you can do to make more audio
 games get built:

 1. Buy some yourself.
 2. Download free audio games and email thanks to their developer.
 3. If you like a game, mention it to your friends.
 4. Likewise, mention it to your library or schools.

Supply will increase or decrease to meet demand.
