[Audyssey] Chopper Challenge: this is getting On My Nerves!

2009-10-13 Thread Louise Keel
Hi, everyone.

I've recently downloaded a free game I hadn't played before called Chopper
Challenge, from ex-xite interactive. If anyone's unfamiliar with it, it's a
space invader's type game whereby you shoot at a copter man type thing, and
avoid his bombs. The object of the game is to stay alive for ten minutes, and
rack up as many points as possible, on three difficulty levels. You have
health points, you start with 100, and if you get hit by a bomb, these decrease
to the point that if you get zero, the copter man successfully marks your card
and blows you to blazes! Now it should follow that, if you have a good number
of health points, a good number of points, and are still alive at the end of
ten minutes, Copter man should bite the dust. Except he often doesn't, he
destroys you, for what reason I cannot fathom! Also, it will sometimes happen
during the game, that, though I have plenty of health points, Copter man will
suddenly take it into his head to end things and destroy me.

Now, am I missing something here, I've read through the readme, and can't find
any reason for this to happen. Because if I'm not missing something, I'm here
to tell you, this is getting on my last nerve! Is anyone else having this kind
of problem with this game? If the person who wrote it is reading this, perhaps
you could enlighten me as to why this happens. It is, in the main, a great
game, or I'd have just said to heck with it, buggy game, and consigned it to
the recycling bin in the sky, but I like the game, and would like to know why
this is happening, and if it's fixable. Thanks very much for any help anyone
can give me.

Best to all my fellow gamers.

perhaps you're going over the miss limit? each time you miss there is a
special number that increases, you can chekc it with the m key. each
difficulty has its own miss limit, if you miss more than that number
you're out of the game early.

[Audyssey] Ten-Pin Alley Party.

2009-09-27 Thread Louise Keel
Hey Guys!

You might remember, a while back, my email asking about a pause feature in
ten-pin alley, because of a bash we were having for my fiance's birthday.

Well that was last night... I think! I just wanted to let you know it was a
wow, everyone, even the sighted people, had a blast, and loved the game to
bits. I'm also proud to say that I whupped everyone raw! won by about 100
points, got 280. Only messed up at the end, man I was so bummed!

Anyway, before I get into any trouble for going off topic, just want to thank
Phil and Josh again for such an amazing game, and to urge anyone who hasn't
already, to try it, it really is a great idea for a party!

Take care all.

Hi Charles!

well, as there were four newbies, we had to play level one. My sighted bro,
the one who downloaded the game to practice, was so sure he was going to
lick us that he wouldn't even let us use handicapping. Sad to say, he came
third, just two points behind Charles my fiance.

With a score like that, I'm curious as to what skill level and what aiming
method was being used? That's an awesome score, for sure. Glad the party
went well, especially hearing that the sighted people loved the game!
That's really refreshing news that they realize that you don't have to see
the action, and that they can play games just as we do.

Re: [Audyssey] Anyone thought of doing an accessible handheldtriviagame?

2009-09-27 Thread Louise Keel

Hey everyone!

I regularly have to take transatlantic flights, and would love to have some
accessible kind of handheld game to play to pass the time. I can't turn on
my phone, even if I had a smart phone, which I don't, to play the latest
games for that. Playing games on my Netbook, if I disabled the wireless of
course, would seriously shorten the battery life. So what do I do. Read,
listen to music, my brain is half dead with boredom on the twenty-four hour
journey, including time lag, between the U K and Louisiana. I sure wish we
could have some kind of talking, hand held game you could plug headphones
into! My Momma once said to me, if wishes were roses, the world would be a
garden! But I'd be sure interested to hear any thoughts on the subject.

also, I'm afraid that I don't particularly see the attraction of having a
hand held trivia game.

Not because I don't think trivia could be fun, but there are many
accessible trivia games available already which you could run on a hand
held.

I'm not sure about Jim kitchins because of the sapi issue, but I believe
those from 7-128 do, and using websites like freerice would be no trouble

trivia game?

Hi,

I extremely doubt it. For a couple of very good reasons.

First, companies, Hasbro included, usually aren't too receptive when
someone comes along asking for accessibility features. Especially, when
those accessibility features will cost them lots of time and
development. What you are in a sense asking them to do is throw away the
product they have spent x amount of time and money researching and
developing, rewrite the new firmware for that unit with text to speech
support, create a new rom, and then sell an all new accessible version.
Unless there is a really compelling reason to do so they are likely to
tell you forget it!

As far as someone else doing it that's just not likely either. I'm a
skilled programmer, I assume they wrote the firmware in C++, have a
vague idea how they created the trivia game, but the firmware is likely
stored on a rom chip. In order to make this little unit talk I would
have to create my own firmware for the unit, from scratch I might add,
create a new rom chip, and replace the existing one with my own rom.
This is some serious hardware and software engineering we are talking
about. Nothing as simple or straight forward as installing Jaws or
Window Eyes on your computer to make it talk. Totally new and different
ball game here.

HTH

we are talking about.

Re: [Audyssey] the Jehovah's witnesses viewpoint on gaming:3 articles

2009-09-09 Thread Louise Keel

Hi everyone.

I too was raised as a Jehovah's witness and my childhood was blighted by its
radicalism. I also quit as soon as I was able to, and it took some doing!
The point is, parents do have the right to decide what kind of computer and
video games they will allow their kids to play, because they are parents.
But in my view, once you become an adult, no one, no one has the right to
tell anyone else what they must or must not play for relaxation. This is up
to everyone's indevidual conscience. I spend a lot of time smashing up Old
Man Stanley's house. this does not mean I'm going to suddenly get it into my
head to go out and start wrecking homes here. it's. a. game!

And I may also add, in case I may be accused of predjudice, that Jehovah's
witnesses are far from the only Christian fundamentalists who try to tell
others what to play, watch, listen to, read, think. It's not on. That is, I
hasten to add, only my opinion.

Re: [Audyssey] sarah versus pack man

2009-08-28 Thread Louise Keel

Hi, everyone.

Well, it would be a boring world if we were all the same, but I have to say,
I couldn't disagree more with this last Email, not in a nasty way, you
understand, just I find Packman fun to play, whereas I didn't even go for
the full versionof Sarah, because... well, let's take it from the top.

Ok, first off, it's not often I buy games because, like a lot of us, I live
on a limited income and have four places to put every cent. But I'd heard so
much about Packman and Sarah, wel, I went for the demo of Sarah first. Now,
in the freebie maze games I've tried, I've always been hopeless. I have no
talent for holding the inside of a maze in my head, and no braille display
to read a map. So, with Sarah, I spent a lot of time hearing ug! who put
that wall there? and walking around and around in circles. When something
did happen, there were so many key strokes that I couldn't remember what to
do where. Now ok, it could well be argued that I only had the demo, and
didn't give the game a chance. I played the demo a lot, let me tell you, and
the more I plyaed, the more frustrated I got at it. I just. didn't. get it!

So, we come to packman. packman, ok, when it comes to clearing levels, I'm
not much better at it, you could say, but my score is going up. I don't walk
around and around in circles all the time, well, I do it less, shall we say!
In all the time I played Sarah till I ran out of patience with it, I found
precisely two sweets. I've lost count of the super power pills I've found.
yes, you have to watch out for the ghosts, they can jump out of nowhere, and
they're hard to get away from, but I find if I keep my ears open I'm getting
better at avoiding them. I'm not saying I'm right and everyone else is wrog
here, just putting a different point of view. Sure, the sound in Sarah, and
the voices, just amazing. But I love to play Packman, and it's still on my
puter, which, in the end, is what counts, ain't it! grin!

Best to everyone, and a nice weekend to all.

Lulu.

Subject: [Audyssey] sarah versus pack man

Hi all
I realize that phil has done a great job on both games mentioned in the
subject line.
I just wish to tell ya all that I nowadays enjoy sarah more than pack man.
Pack man tends to stress me these days.
The ghosts appears just suddenly out of no where, so the player can
easily

lose all his lives.
On the contrary, sarah is a much calmer game.
Although there are certain puzzles and although the player can lose the
game

by being captured by the caretaker and killed by a bugger/dementor, the
sarah game is much calmer.
If a ghost touches sarah, all she loses is a bit of magical energy.
And that, she can easily get back in many ways.
Obtaining magical items such as brooms etc. can give her energy.
By Eating sweets and food.
And scaring ghosts with her patronous.
Another way in which sarah stands out above pack man.
In pack man the player have to go to an alcove to get super power and
faces

the risk to get killed by a ghost in the process.
And there is only 4 super power pills.
In sarah, the player can just hit e and he/she can scare the ghosts for
some time.
And also in sarah the player can obtain many patronoses in wands picked
up.

Whereas in pack man, the player is limited to only 4 super power pills per
level.
Also, in sarah, the first patronoses last shorter than the latter ones,
when

she acquire better wands.
This is contrary to pack man where super power lasts longer in lower
levels

and gets shorter as the player progresses.
In the sarah game, the player can just hit a and instantly appear in the
broom cupboard, although the player is limited in aparation spells.
on the contrary, the player have to find the safe place in the pack man
game

and again, facing the risk of being touched by a ghost and lose a life in
the process.
One last thing I want to point out.
The ghosts in the sarah game speaks meaningful phrases, taken from the
harry

potter books.
The ghosts in pack man: all they can say is.
Go now, go now, go now.
Or
Leave now, leave now.
Or
Winky wants you to go.
I sincerely wishes phil,if he gets time for it, can develop an ms pack
man

where the pack man character can also aparate like sarah and also hit e to
get super power.
And it will be nice to have peeves, nick, murtle and professor bins in the
pack man game than pinky, inky, winky and clide which can get quite
monotonous.

[Audyssey] Pausing Ten-Pin Alley.

2009-08-26 Thread Louise Keel
Hi, everyone. I have an interesting little problem, which I really need to find
a way around.

It's my other half's birthday on September 26th, and he wants a Ten-pin alley
bowling party. So this is where I lay in a boatload of food, a lake of beers,
and a bunch of good friends and we all have a bowling match. Only, the game
won't pause, and I can't see a whole bunch of guys going ten frames without
sustenance, well, not without tearing the place down, or dropping chips and dip
into my computer. If we don't hit enter when Bo Linball says to, he gets
impatient with us, or sarcastic or both. I don't know what would happen if we
just left him to it, I've never dared try it. There is no pause key that I can
find, which is unusual in such a long game. So, anyone got any ideas on how I
can solve this one? Thanks so much!

Best

Lulu Keel.

Re: [Audyssey] Pausing Ten-Pin Alley.

2009-08-26 Thread Louise Keel
Hi, Phil, thanks so much for that. I actually had me a game this morning,
and tried leaving Bo to stew just before the commercial break, which is when
I've planned on taking down the electric fence surrounding the food! Lol! He
tried telling me where enter was on my own dang keyboard, then went to the
rest room. So I'll just mute him while we eat, I was a bit worried the game
might close if left unattended or something. Thanks so much for this. Now I
can get on with the arrangements.

O, by the way, I hear tell that Phil and Bo have the same voice. Nice work!
he makes me laugh. Especially the transparent pins dig, I like that! I don't
like the dig when I hit the gutter, trying to hook! peh! Lol! Seriously, I
love that game to bits! Nice going, P C S games and Draconis Entertainment!

Hi Lulu,
Doing nothing when Bo asks you to hit the space bar is the pause function.
Bo will make snide comments every so often to let you know you are paused.
He will run off to the snack bar and I think eventually fall asleep and
snore.

That is a little Easter egg in the game.
So just let Bo sleep and you will be fine.
Phil

Hi, everyone. I have an interesting little problem, which I really need
to find a way around.

It's my other half's birthday on September 26th, and he wants a Ten-pin
alley bowling party. So this is where I lay in a boatload of food, a
lake of beers, and a bunch of good friends and we all have a bowling
match. Only, the game won't pause, and I can't see a whole bunch of guys
going ten frames without sustenance, well, not without tearing the place
down, or dropping chips and dip into my computer. If we don't hit enter
when Bo Linball says to, he gets impatient with us, or sarcastic or both.
I don't know what would happen if we just left him to it, I've never
dared try it. There is no pause key that I can find, which is unusual in
such a long game. So, anyone got any ideas on how I can solve this one?
Thanks so much!

Re: [Audyssey] Pausing Ten-Pin Alley.

2009-08-26 Thread Louise Keel
I've just returned from my sighted bro's place. He has just downloaded the
demo of Ten-pin alley, so as to get in some practice for Charles's bowling
party. At first he was, like, so foxed! How do I do anything? there's no
pictures! he whined! but soon, you should have seen him and his girlfriend
going at it! I wouldn't be surprised if they ordered the full version! If we
have to use the handipac feature I'll be surprised! Mind, not all of our
friends are so open-minded, so maybe we will after all! They all love Bo!
Go, Josh!

Just let the game stay as it is, and listen to the ornery comments. Doing
nothing is the way to pause the game. Nothing will be lost or changed. A
bowling bash is a neat idea, and I would like to be there to beat people.
If the party guests have already created their players, use the handicap
feature of the game for a more even match. If the players have not been
created, you can use this feature after 3 games or so. Have fun. Go on
strike in your spare time, and keep your minds and balls out of the
gutters. (grin)

[Audyssey] Great Toy Robber and Vista.

2009-06-18 Thread Louise Keel
Hi.

One of my friends, who runs Windows Vista, and is an L-works fan, asked me to
tell him when the new games were out, so I did, and he got them straight away.
The new Super Egg Hunt he says works fine, but he says he can't get Great Toy
Robbery to work no matter what he does. I used to have a problem getting the
old version to work on my XP machine, and could only play it if I tricked it
into thinking I was running an earlier windows. Well, obviously that's the
first thing we tried, no luck. Is anyone else having problems playing on Vista?
And any suggestions as to how we can get his game to play would be helpful.
GTR is his favourite and he's pretty sad that it won't play anymore. Thanks so
much.

Best.

[Audyssey] New L-works Games Are Awesome.

2009-06-16 Thread Louise Keel
Hi everyone.

I just thought I'd give you my thoughts on the new games from l-works. Super
egg hunt has been updated, as you will have seen, and I'm loving the new
version. I've heard accusations of dumbing down, as I think I've said in a
previous mail, I think this is silly. There are more eggs, which means it's
more difficult to here what's where, you move slower and thus the chicken,
christened by one of my friends Gregory Peck, has more time to get you. In this
latest version a bug has been fixed, and my scores are going up nicely
accordingly!

I also love the fact that the horible hip-hop music which I used to find very
aggrivating on Migraine days, has now been replaced by a lovely outdoor
background sound. Also the chicken has changed. Different sound, and now this
is where you're going to think I'm cracked. i used to find McChicken scary,
honest I did. it had a sort of malevolent sound to it, I hated the peck sound,
and the way it would suddenly unfreeze and jump out at you after a clock
sometimes. Now Gregory you can be annoyed with, cos in this new game, you have
to do a fair bit of jinking around to collect the eggs, and moving from the
straight line is what attracts his attention. He comes flapping and fussing at
you, but he's more cartoony, and I much prefer the new peck sound we have now.
I like the fact you can hear him moving, and that if you freeze him he still
clucks, so you can hear where he is. He's still wicked fast though, you have to
watch him.

Ok, new GTR, as I shorten the Great Toy Robbery. First, I didn't realize I was
playing anything new. I'd rather hoped to have some updated toy sounds. You
find it much easier to pick the toys up though, and there are more, though not
berzillions. Where the real change comes is in the elves. I used to find the
old elves much easier to deal with than old chicken, and could steal stuff
right out from under their stupid pogo sticks. Um, not any more I can't.
They're wicked fast and lethal, and hunt in packs, or they have so far on my
game.

The other change is when dealing with the fat jelly belly bean bag! Now in the
old game, when I heard the thunder, I'd breathe a sigh of relief. Now was the
time to start poking fun at the lumbering old idiot, if I ran a certain way,
he'd never get me. Um, not now. I've got stomped twice. That. never. happened.
to me.

Ways the games could be improved? two I can think of only. A pause feature
would be good. I hate it if I'm playing a real wopper, and the phone goes, or
someone messages, and I have to stop and lose a really great score. Next, I
don't like the way you can still hear the music when you're not in the game
window. It makes sending a quick message between games without closing stuff
down like I used to, at least in S E H, impossible really, and it's not
necessary, I don't think.

Sorry to have gone on so long, I'll be interested to see what anyone else
thinks. Thanks, Liam, for all your hard work on your terific games.

Best

Lulu.

Re: [Audyssey] New Gamehead On The Block.

2009-06-11 Thread Louise Keel
Hi Robin, glad someone else likes these, lots of people look down their noses
at them. The thing I love about Treasure Mania is that it goes on a long time,
and is very relaxing to play, unless of course a storm comes up! I can sit in a
chat room, a skype conference or similar, with a group of friends, all of us
talking, and all of us playing TM, as we shorten it to. You'll hear a subject
being discussed, an the occasional Bother! Crashed my boat! Come here,
little bubbly fish, annoying little beast! or something similar, of course,
those fish being as annoying and elusive as they are, if I told you what we
really said I'd be kicked off here double quick!

One more game I didn't mention, and which any lover of Super Egg Hunt should
try, is Superdog's Bone Hunt. I got it from Audiogames.net. Now usually, this
kind of three demensional game is totaly beyond me. the twenty minutes I spent
playing Sarah consisted of her saying aaah! Who put that wal there! Anyway,
this one I do seem to be able to do, and getting nice high scores in the
eighties makes me feel good! Another one that makes for laughs in Chat rooms.
get off that fence will you! Leave the cat alone, it's not hurting you! ok
enough. write and tell me what you like to play.

Re: [Audyssey] New Gamehead On The Block!

2009-06-11 Thread Louise Keel
I tried installing it once, and it sent my whole system completely squiffy! I'm
sort of reluctant about trying it again, but am so tempted, as it's a side
scroller, and those are the ones I have most success playing. I have no
success with 3 D games at all!

[Audyssey] (Audyssey) New gamehead on the Block.

2009-06-10 Thread Louise Keel
Hi, I'm Lulu, just wanted to say hello as I'm new to this list. I love to play
audio games, or why am I here? Grin! I usually only play the freebies, with the
exception of Pinball Extreme, just more than marvelous! And a last year's
birthday present, Lords of the Galaxy from Vipgameszone.

My current craze is the new Super Egg Hunt. This simple game has always been
one of my favourites anyway, but the new version just rocks! I've heard
accusations of dumbing down! Um duh! more eggs means more pick up, means
moving slower, means more pecks. I find, though I get higher scores it's harder
to play. One of the most audially rich freebies I have is Treasure mania 1.
Hearing the sound depth in that, it's hard to believe it's free.

Ok, enough. I look forward to reading, and contributing to this list.

Best
