Re: [Audyssey] Music Puzzle Released!!

2012-12-03 Thread Shard Workshop
We're glad you like it!

The reason is that maybe someone will need more space to arrange
sub-sections of the song. Anyway we believe that the additional space
doesn't get in the way, if you don't need it.

2012/12/4 Liam Erven liamer...@gmail.com

It's a really fun game. Is there a particular reason why you made multiple
rows seeing as the song just takes up a single row? Seems like it would
make more sense to have the game use a single left to right row. It's
 still
fun, and will be purchasing this weekend.

 Hi alex.

I left this because i was wondering if lorenzo would see it anyway on

He has however posted fairly often on the audiogames.net forum, and if
you were registered on the forum you could send him an E-mail using the

Subject: [Audyssey] help contacting shard workshop

  Hi list,
I am wondering, does anyone have a contact e mail address for shard
workshop? or its owner lorenzo which I guess amounts to the same thing.
as I bought zero site recently, and would like to make contact with the
 developer,
but the documentation says to use the forum which according to the
website is disabled, perhaps the documentation should be updated to
 actually give proper contact information,
as the website doesn't provide e mail addresses either, and lorenzos
official website link on the homepage is broken as well.

I have a few questions and suggestions for the developer and a few
problems as well, as I keep getting lots of errors to do with sounds,
I have also had trouble with the engines turning off and not coming back
 on.
I also find the games coordinate system very confusing and would like to
suggest adding in some kind of autopilot system to make navigation easier.
 Thanks for any help,
 Alex.

  Hello everyone!

Today is exactly one year since the Shard Workshop Project was founded,
 and
what a year. Today we would like to take our chance to do two things: the
first one is to say an official thank you to every single one out there,
all around the world, that supported us in some way, from talking with
friends about our games to buying them.

The second thing is an annoucement. As someone of you may remember, we
started this project in the hope that it would become our main job. After
one year, and a long and accurate deliberation, we decided that Shard
Workshop is definitely worth a try:

From now on, *Shard Workshop will be a full time audiogames and videogames
developing project*. This means that we will work every day, every hour,

 full time on it.

We would like to begin this great journey with you guys, because, as you
surely know by now, this is not something we can do on our own. We are
putting everything into this project, we're actually investing our lifes,
but without your help we cannot succeed. Help us by talking about the
project, the audiogaming, buying our games if you like them, and generally
speaking supporting us. Right now there are too few audiogames players:
 *we

promised we would revolutionize the audiogaming scene, and we will,
supplying the best audiogames ever, but it's up to you spreading them*.

In the following days we'll update you on what's happening here in Shard
 Workshop.

 Have a good gaming everyone!

Yes there is a built in timer and a feature that stops the game after a

that map came out :P.
Mp3s are obivously loadable!

2012/11/4 Yohandy yohand...@gmail.com

this sounds like a totally fresh and neat idea! I presume the program's
work like a file splitter of sorts? you load mp3 into it, it splits it up
into several chunks of certain lengths, then throws all the pieces into a
puzzle? I'm already itching to try this thing. imagine loading Rush's 2112
into it? you'll be playing for hours! hahahahahahaha!

Re: [Audyssey] A Proposal for Game Developers

2012-03-27 Thread Shard Workshop
Hi Thomas, that's a good idea, and we, Shard Workshop, know exactly what
you are talking about (somebody already mentioned us here).
I am not blind, and I have a very strong background as videogamer and I
have literally tons of idea of how to reproduce the mainstream sensation in
the audiogame scene, and doing so is one of the main aim of the Shard
Workshop project.

As somebody already pointed out, doing triple A games (the very high
quality ones) requires both time and money: the more we stay in the
audiogame market, the more we can invest in audiogames, thanks to the sold
copies. That means that our projects will be more complex and literally big
as the time goes.
Be patient, we're working very hard!

Keep up the good work Thomas!

2012/3/27 Thomas Ward thomasward1...@gmail.com

 Hi everyone,

I've just had an idea that might aid current and future audio game
developers. I realize that many of the people on this list are blind and
have been blind since birth and therefore haven't had much experience with
mainstream games. As a result a lot of developers and gamers look at some
audio game and assume that it is somehow representative of that type of
game even though it might be lacking in several areas. Often times the
developer himself/herself is unaware of this fact because they haven't been
exposed to that genre of game before.

For example, let's say someone downloaded Super Liam and assumed that all
mainstream side-scrollers were like that. Of course, they'd be wrong
because Super Liam does not really deal with a 2d environment, doesn't
really have an up/down axis of movement, and most action is handled from
left to right. There is no advanced combat that takes advantage of a 2d
environment like flying enemies you have to shoot out of the air, enemies
above you in the tree tops, and other such traps common to mainstream
games. It is certainly a decent game, but is not representative of true
 side-scrollers.

Since this seems to be a common issue with blind developers and blind
gamers alike I thought what I'd do is write a document outlining what
mainstream games are like, use some classic examples of 2d side-scrollers,
 3d first-person shooters, and some 3d third-person shooters. Maybe do a
chapter on arcade games and try and describe a few different examples of
that genre. Especially, since most people have done the Space Invaders
thing, but there is a lot more to arcade than Space Invader type games. I
think if I write a document on explaining each kind of game in detail,
explain what kinds of features are common to each, maybe audio game
developers will be able to come away with some new ideas and be able to
begin building more advanced audio games. Anyone interested in this idea?

 Cheers!

Hi, what Dark told you is correct.

Anyway everyone remember that with the new patch you can change the heading
system from the Cartesian standard to the Clock one, with 0 degrees being
North.

To download the patch or the updated demo go here:

Hello Shard and everyone on this list,

I surmise that 90 north means you go to the North, not Northeast, but to
the right but still heading north? It is just I have not heard of this said
direction thing before in my life.

 Hi Alan.

It's all about the angle. keep track of your vertical heading with the t

Also personally i never bother flying above 30 myself, sinse it's far
easier to land if your closer to the ground, and there are no penalties for
low flying at all, unrealistic as this sounds, though this may change in

I agree. I tried the Zero Sight demo myself and it doesn't really grab

necessarily stick to true physics either, but as you pointed out the
experience does feel more realistic as a simulation than Zero Sight
when we come down to a one on one comparison between the two.

I honestly think Lone Wolf sets a president for any kind of combat
simulation because it offers several starter missions, the ability to
create custom missions, and the user interface is fairly straight
forward. The keyboard commands are easy to remember because they make
sense. A for area, f for fuel, d for depth, s for speed, etc are
  logical assignments.

With Zero Sight I felt as though some keyboard assignments didn't make
sense, and having 0 oriented to east instead of north just made the
game too confusing for me.I'm willing to keep an an open mind about
the game, but unless some of the things I don't particularly like get
changed in the future I probably won't buy Zero Sight. I guess it
doesn't really live up to my expectations for a flight simulator.

Yep, but one line below it says that if you have the demo you just have to
download and reinstall it to have the changes.

It's a bit confusing, because it says, on the web page, that the patch is
for the full version. Yet, I think, the developer said, to this list, that
the changes were made to the patch, no mention of the demo. I went ahead
and redownloaded the demo again, just in case.

  Hi Chris,

I agree. I tried the Zero Sight demo myself and it doesn't really grab
my attention the way Lone Wolf does. Yeah, Lone Wolf doesn't
necessarily stick to true physics either, but as you pointed out the
experience does feel more realistic as a simulation than Zero Sight
when we come down to a one on one comparison between the two.

 Cheers!

 Hi,

I just visited the Shard Workshop site, and noticed a new demo version of
Zero Sight is now available, or so I assume since the 1.01 Full patch is
mentioned. I downloaded it, thinking that maybe there was a bug with the
first one that was preventing me from getting off the ground, but after
choosing Free Flight from the menu, I noticed that the F3 key no longer
informs me of the length of the airstrip. Is anyone else experiencing this?
And in case you're wondering, I still can't take off, despite reading the
 manual and all.

 Thanks.

As soon as the patch will be ready, it will freely downloadable from http:
www.shardworkshop.com/zero-sight for anyone who bought the game. The ones
with the demo will just need to re download it.

On the compass matter, everyone may be right. We know that 0 North is
something a lot of you are used, but we're receiving also positive review
from people who like 90 North, so it's probably a matter of preference!

As for some of the flying tricks, you are right, Zero Sight is not a
perfect simulator, but we HAD to relax some realistic aspects to gran a bit
of playability. Anyway, when you shut your engines a real plan does not
fall like an anvil or like wile e. coyote :D. You have momentum, so you'll
still be flying a bit forward.

As for Mario, yes using the official forum would be really the best thing :D

We are glad that you all like the game people, Keep flying and spread the

 Hi, Listers,

I have been playing the demo and finally got into the air but my engines
stalled and I crashed which was actually cool. However, even with my
 screen
reader off, too often there are two many voices talking at once and it
becomes often impossible to hear the report when I press z for my altitude
or s for my speed for example. Could it be possible to create a patch that
stops the current voice or voices when you press a button to get a certain
piece of information? Just my two cents.

The reference system is based on the Cartesian coordinate system, that's
why 0 is East. I'm sure you great pilots will get used to it in a flight or
two ;)

2011/12/19 Dallas O'Brien dallas-obr...@bigpond.com

yeah. its looking good. one idea though, for the developer. would it be
possible to set the directions, as compass directions? as its quite
disorienting to have degrees that don't match up to compass headings. like,
0 being north, not east, 90 being east, 180 being south, and 270 being west?
this would be a lot easier for those of us used to working with such
directions from other devices and games.

Re: [Audyssey] Shard Workshop Zero Sight released!

2011-12-19 Thread Shard Workshop
The z key only tells you th altitude, it doesn't really change it. Keep
trying!
In the demo map there is only one aircraft, and is to the North compared to
your position.
The main differences between the demo and the full release is that in the
full release you get to play 8 missions with briefing and objectives, 8 map
(of which one is completely random generated, that is, is different every
time you play it) in which you can do whatever you want (much like the demo
map, but with a lot of enemy airports genating air and land traffic),
you'll be able to use all the four missiles and customize the cargo of your
aircraft.

2011/12/19 william lomas will.d.lo...@gmail.com

when i take off can't seem to climb pressing down arrow is sending my nose
up i know that, but i can't get the z key to make altitude climb. also i
just seem to be flying around aimlessly in the free flight mode is this
 where no enemies are concerned?
what will be the difference between option 2, map mode, and option 3, free
flight, if i buy the game?
also the overlapping announcements are confusing to be honest.

180 was south, and 270 degrees was west.
  One other recommendation
Any chance of writing in USB game pad and or USB flight yoke support
 into the game.
I think this would be easier than trying to remember all of the keyboard
 commands.

2011-12-19 Thread Shard Workshop
I would like to suggest Shard Workshop.
We just released our first audiogame, Zero Sight, that is a pretty complex
flight simulator.

I know I'm biased, but this is just to let you know we exist! I don't want
to influence your decision, so these are some sources of information:

Our website here: www.shardworkshop.com, especially on the zero sight
section and on the project section.

Some threads on audiogames.net, like
http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?id=6788, or
http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?id=6740, or
http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?id=6705

Thank you!

2011/12/19 Eleanor Robinson elea...@7128.com

Gamers - I think my request for information got lost in the shuffle. We
would like people on this list to let us know if there are any websites we
should consider for the Top 25 list that are not currently on our list. If
there are, please let me know so they will be included in our review.

 Thanks.

Great William!
Yes you'll be able to download the demo freely, but when you'll buy the
game there will be another download.

 HI all especial to lorenzo

When the game is released ont he 19th, zero sight I mean, do we have to
 download 2 separate files?
One for demo and another one for full version? or will it all be in the
 same download?
I guess not though as no registration system.

I tell everyone now, if I do buy the title I am not putting it anywhere
for people who can't be bothered to pay just so you all know where I
 personally stand on this point.

Re: [Audyssey] demo of zero sight

2011-12-18 Thread Shard Workshop
The demo will feature a modified version of the training map, with a pair
of enemies flying in the sky. You'll not be able to use oll the weapons
etc. You'll be able to play the demo for how long you want.

As for the timed missions, yes, sometimes you have to complete the mission
before something happens.

2011/12/18 william lomas will.d.lo...@gmail.com

any info yet on how the demo work? do we just get the landing and take off
map so fly around with no enemies?
also are the missions timed or do we have as long as required?

Re: [Audyssey] Blind Gamers Being Taken Seriously?

2011-12-17 Thread Shard Workshop
Hi all,

I'm Lorenzo Bellincampi, founder of Shard Workshop, an audiogame
development project. Maybe someone of you already knows me.
This is an interesting topic Jeremy, and I wanted to add the point of view
of a developer.
I agree with a lot of what you said, especially the part in which you say
that you have seen sighted gamers saying well, they can play text games.
We, at Shard Workshop, strongly believe that being blind is much less
contraining then what a lot of people think, when it comes a videogaming. I
have a strong background as videogamer and I know that the biggest part of
the emotions in gaming come from the audio, music and sound effects, so I
believe that audiogames could be a lot better than what are now (aside from
few examples of good games.) To this end you can read more here
http://www.shardworkshop.com/the-project .

As a developer for the blind community I have one big problem: finding all
of you. It seems (and is confirmed by a few of you) that the
word-of-mouth is the absolutely dominant way to learn news, in the blind
community. People really prefer to learn things from unofficial sources
like perfectly unknown people rather than going straight to the official
source, where you can have your info sooner and better.
In this way it is hard to spread news and things, and I believe that a lot
of times, developers find themselves with very few sold copies just because
a lot of people didn't know about the game.

I also agre with Charles with the constructive criticism. The Shard
Workshop project is very young, but I want it to be future job, so I'm
ready to put everything on it and so I'll be clearly ready to learn from
you all.
I have a lot of ideas for a lot of things (not only the final products),
but I'm sure that I can get better with your help. I mean.. it's good for
both sides: you'll get better games and I'll get Shard Workshop to live :D

In conclusion, if you guys and gals didn't know about Shard Workshop, than
check our website @ http://www.shardworkshop.com, it may be what you were
looking for.
As for the spreading issue, we have an official forum too, and we would
be very happy to have you all on those boards discussing audiogames! It
should surely make our life simpler when it'll come to learn, offer
support, and just discuss with you (that, in our principles, it absolutely
mandatory).

2011/12/17 Jeremy Hartley jeremyhart...@comcast.net

 Hello All,

I have been a member of this list since 2000 or 2001, whenever this list in
all of the many forms was begun. I have also been a business owner, a
professional musician, and now work as a computer trainer for blind and
sighted individuals. As you may guess, since I am on this list, I happen
 to
be totally blind, and have been so for my entire life of 36 years.

Like it or not, we as blind and visually impaired individuals, exist in a
sighted world. Choke it down. Get used to it, and get over it, and get
with it. So, what does this all mean for any of us blind gamers? Plenty!

Whether we like it or not, we are viewed differently by the sighted world.
Differently? What does that mean. Well, to me, I have seen sighted gamers
say things like, well, they can play text games. Or, well, why do the
 blind
even need to play games like us anyway. Ok, that really stings to read
 such
comments, but it is due to an ignorance of most of this sighted world.
  Yes,
I said ignorance. Not stupidity! Too often, people mix up ignorance and
stupidity, and call it at that.

So, why should we care? I mean, we have our games written by Jim Kitchen,
draconis, and other devs who are either visually impaired or realize we are
out there, hungry to play games. Taken nothing away from those people, why
shouldn't we as people, not blind, not visually impaired people, just
 people, be taken seriously?

Well, we are in some ways, but not in other ways. I have found that in
order to be taken seriously by the sighted world, we need to show that we
know what we are talking about, enough to capture their interest. Not
everyone can get the point across when it comes to interests and what blind
and visually impaired people are capable of accomplishing. After all, we
all have our interests, pleasures and dislikes.

So, what can we do? The answer is simple, if one takes the time to put
things into perspective. We all want a lot of the same things, but we go
about accomplishing them in the wrong way a lot of times.

What it really comes down to, at least for me, is that we really need to
step up and give any sighted game dev a picture of what we are asking for.
If a map is not read by voiceover on the Iphone, why is that? Have we
explored the window with our voiceover cursor? If so, then what can we say
to the dev to make sense of our needs. Does text need to be placed on the
map? If so, what text, and would it be beneficial to have map coordinates
mentioned? Would that be enough? Would it require a whole

[Audyssey] Shard Workshop project is live!

2011-12-08 Thread Shard Workshop
Hi gamers!
I'm Lorenzo PixelSapiens Bellincampi and I'm here to inform you that a
new audiogames development project is born!

Shard Workshop is a project aimed at delivering the best audiogaming
experience for everyone, especially blind and visually impaired people
through the development of high quality audiogames (or in videogaming slang
AAA, triple A) designed from scratch to meet the highest expectations.

I really hope Shard Workshop to be my future job, so I'm putting everything
in it! The first title released will be a flight simulator, Zero Sight, of
which you can hear the first trailer here:

I'll leave here the links to the project (@moderators: if it's too much,
feel free to keep only the main site link [image: wink])
