new gamei just got called say what. well, it's this game you buy, hand
held by the way, the idea of the game is to unscramble famous phrases. you
are giving the choice of how many players (1 to 5) then, press the start
button, and you are given the first question (the computer will speak to
you). in the front of the game, there are 4 balls, to get the anser, you
have to move the balls around, but remember to keep pressing the button to
find your anser is right or not. be careful though...as the rounds
increase (there's 5 rounds) time gets less

 Hi Chris,

I play chess via Email. Have been for years. I enjoy it very much. I
have never used a service of any type to find opponents though. I have
played several people. But mostly now just one other person. We are
pretty evenly matched. Well he won and won for a long time, but I have
 been winning more games lately.

Re:support needed

I think this is a more appropriate subject line. I like the email you wrote
to Hasbro, although I doubt they'd do anything about it. If you get a
 reply
back though, please send it to the list. As I previously stated, I may
 have
a solution for the bop it download accessibility issue even though I don't
have one and can't try it myself. If anyone has one feel free to try it
 and
let us know how it goes.
. According to the wiki article I read, from level 4 onward the bop it
randomly tells you to input a command while lighting something else
simultaneously. when this happens, you simply do nothing on that beat. Now
I'm guessing that if it says bop it! and twist it! lights up, the game
 will
make a twist it sound on its own at the end of the beat. My idea was to
 wait
for the beat to end before inputting the next command. this would mean
 that
you have a split second to press the correct button, but it's better than
nothing or even worse, hitting the wrong button on the off chance nothing
lit up. What do you guys think? If you're confused I can record a sample
 and show you.

 hello to all

i have written the following to hasbro limited int he UK
bopit download i feel needs to be altered, and please if anyone agrees
with my below letter in the UK, write to
 [EMAIL PROTECTED]
event he americans should push for it as this is a step back, not
forward. i ahve now had to purchase a bop it extreme 2 to satisfy my
 bop it hunger lol

 hello

as a blind fan of hasbro products, i am extremely disappointed in the
way the bop it download is played out.
firstly i was told via the hasbro company, that the colours, yellow
and green, were not utilized in solo modes. to my delight however,
when they were needed in level 4 of the bopit download product, they
were voices, and i was able to figure out, which side of the bop it
controler was yellow and which therefore, was green
however the complications have arrisen when level five and six are
 attempted to be played
As a totally blind player, how can i detect if a different control has
been lit up when another one is announced, thus prompting me to do
 nothing
for example if i hear spin it, i automatically reach for spoin it, but
if pull it lit up, it is my understanding that one hears, spin it, but
has to miss that turn as something else has lit up

this now makes the game, from this point on virtually unusable which
to e is discriminatory as all of the other hasbro bop it generations
have been completely and utterly accessible
granted, we can play levels seven to ten respectively, as they mirro 1
to 4 levels but in sound, no difficulties are encountered there
However of course levels 11 and 12 will play a sound and possibly,
though i assume this is a random timer, light up another control on
 the body of the unit

may i suggest, a possible update to the bop it firmware that one can
 download
and this should not be too hard to implement and in my view, make the
game even more of a challenge fore a sighted colleague

have it whereby in levels 5 and six, one has to do the opposite of the
 command voiced
so if you hear pull it, you ahve to spin it, bop it remains as bop it,
twist it can be flick it for example, these are just suggestions
i feel that this can be easily achieved and would thus mean that,
although i feel i am stepping backwards now and getting the bopit
extreme 2, which in my view having a score of 250 is no where near as
compettative and challenging as 1000, will suffice for now, until an
alternative arrangement can possibly be made to enable a blind person
or visually impaired, to complete this bop it download, if played solo
i am displeasured by the fact that up to level 4 we have no
difficulties but as mentioned, from level 5 6, 11 12 and maybe the
final three levels 13 to 15 respectively, we can't play and if we
can't complete this game in solo mode i see no virtue in continuing to
 play
i do hope you have find my ideas constructive, and i'd be interested,
when time permits as the holidays are fast upon us, to recieve a
 response
i'd be happy to test out the idea i have outlined if it were
implemented, and if indeed one can update the firmware of the device
to alter game play, as would other united kingdom based blind friends
 of mine
 thanks,

 Hello gamers,
USA Games Interactive is happy to announce that we are now taking
pre-orders for Montezuma's Return for $35.00 USD. You can quickly pay
now with your Visa, Discover, American Express, or Master Card with our
express checkout system using Paypal.com's IPN service. To begin your
adventure with Angela Summers and Montezuma's Return buy it now at:
 http://www.usagames.us/store.php
What are the advantages of pre-ordering Montezuma's Return rather than
waiting for 1.0? Be able to unlock any and all betas between now and
1.0. Have your key before Christmas, and be able to buy Montezuma's
Return for a friend or loved one as a Christmas present. Be able to help
find and fix bugs before Montezuma's Return reaches 1.0 stable without
being limited to a demo. Be able to give suggestions and pointers you
think might improve the game before it is finalized. With all these
 reasons why wait?

 Sincerely,

 Hello gamers,
Earlier this morning my wife and I had a personal disagreement over the
time I am spending on Montezuma's Return, and by the end of the argument
I had decided to alter the Montezuma's Return release schedule to free
up time for my wife and family during the holidays. So as a result I
will not be releasing Montezuma's Return on December 15 as previously
planned. However, I will be offering a new release schedule and plan for
 1.0. See below.
In a couple of days i will be entering Montezuma's Return in the USA
Games pre-order and public Beta release program. If you order now during
the holidays you will be able to have full access to all the betas, get
to test and give feedback on the entire program, get your product key
before Christmas, and purchase a copy for friends and love ones for the
holidays. All pre-order and public beta testers will recieve a $0.00
upgrade to 1.0 upon it's release.
We will make a public announcement as soon as we are ready to begin
processing orders. Unfortunately, we are not quite ready to begin
processing orders, but we should have the store open in a couple of days.

 Hi all,
I've just started out in World of Darkness and I could use a nudge in the
right direction. I went into the bedroom for a sleep and found myself in
the operating rooms, but there seems to be nothing there. So I woke up,
grabbed the cane, then the cane tip and key from the drawer in the coffee

go outside he says I can't explore without a cane! So I'm sort of at a

Study: Aging Brains Can Benefit from 'Training'

By Jon Hamilton

Morning Edition, November 19, 2007·

A new study suggests that one hour a day of intensive brain exercise can
improve thinking and memory. The study involving more than 400 adults age
65 and older found that those who underwent training scored higher on
general memory tests.

The Posit Science Brain Fitness Program takes time and effort, and it
doesn't promise miracles.

Dr. Elizabeth Zelinski from the University of Southern California led a
study of more than 400 people 65 or older who participated in the program.

Those who completed 40 hours of Brain Fitness training performed
significantly better on memory tests than a comparison group who spent 40
hours watching educational lectures.

After training, Zelinski says, a typical 75-year-old did as well on the
tests as an untrained person 10 years younger. And the people who got
training said it improved their daily lives.

It might mean a small difference in being able to remember your grocery
list when you left your list home, Zelinski said. So, they may remember
several more items.

Scientists already know about techniques to improve specific aspects of
memory, like recalling a string of numbers. But the program appears to
bolster a much wider range of memory tasks.

The Brain Fitness program comes from Posit Science, a company whose founders
include a prominent brain researcher in California. Zelinski works as a
consultant for the company, which funded the new study.

Dr. Henry Mahncke is the vice president for research and outcomes. He says
the program takes an unusual approach -- it uses sounds to improve memory.

What it's doing is it's improving the speed and accuracy of processing in
your auditory system, Mahncke said.

Over time, people learn to identify shorter and shorter bursts of sound.
Mahnke says that helps the brain do a better job processing information from
the outside world.

But Dr. Matthew Shapiro, a neuroscientist at Mt. Sinai School of Medicine in
New York, says potential buyers of this program -- which costs nearly $400
retail -- need to be realistic.

To get any improvement, they'll have to really mobilize their effort and
their attention, Shapiro said. If they do that, they're likely to see an
improvement in their abilities, but they shouldn't expect large changes.

The new study was presented at the Gerontological Society of America Meeting
in San Francisco.

It's that time again when wanderlust struck and one begins to look for a
 new
world, explore new possibilities. So, if you know of a great mud, please
 let
me know. Here are the things I look for, the mud would have to have at
 least
some of these qualities to keep my interest:
 1. Good description on items. That means when I look at a sword, or a
 piece
of jewel, I don't want to see 'You see nothing special' or 'A sword lies
 here.' Right-a-way that's a no-no for me.

 2. Possibility for ranged combat. Archers or gunfighters should be able to
attack from a room or rooms away. This feature would be a big bonus and
would definitely make me stay awhile.

 3. Not PK oriented. PK is fine, but not my thing, so a mud that's pure PK
 doesn't suit me too well.

 4. Not RP enforced. I like to RP, but there are times when I come home
 from
work and I just want to log on and randomly slay a few dragons without
having to come up with a story.

 5. Something with unique features. Just not your everyday mud. So if you
think something's unique, tell me why you think it is.

Well, that's about it, so if any of ya know any mud that'd fit into my
search, send it this way please.

Does PRO have good commentary? I don't know whether to go for FIFA or pro,
must decide soon. There is also Sensible Soccer, ever tried or heard of
 it?
Later on this afternoon, I'll post the titles and prices and maybe one of
you guys can help me decide on this. FIFA 2002 was the worst FIFA ever,
 they
didn't even have sounds for the tackles, and there wasn't really any loud
ball sounds. That's a pity, because for me that was an interesting Premier
League Season, because there were new teams like Fulham and Blackburn and
Liverpool who I support had won those three cups the season before. What
would be cool is now that SA has the 2010 WC, they might put the SA league
in and I can play with Wits University!

 Hi Ian,
Apparrently Sensible Soccer was this great game in the 1990's, and,
 because
of some features, fans still say it was one of the best soccer games,
although I think it was on the Megadrive. I think it could have been the
gameplay? Ian, did you have a Nintendo Entertainment System? If you did,
 do
you remember the weird soccer game on there, the one where when you
 dribbled
it made this funny sound, and when you shot it sort of made this high
 sound
while the ball went through the air and there was music everytime someone
scored a goal, the crowd sounded like a Kettle! and the halftime show
apparrently was dancing girls. A was shoot and B was pass.

suppose we'd have any chance with an arrow, since we wouldn't know where on
the pitch we were. 2004 I think is an arrow, that's why I missed always!

are many people who think it's better than FIFA, but does it have
 commentary
and great sounds, I really need to know, as kalahari.net has it cheap. I'm
thinking of getting something for my birthday, but there's also a UEFA

 Cricket?

 Hi Soren,
What I used to do with the earlier FIFA's is that you listen to passes,
crowds, and you use soccer logic. What I mean, I'm Liverpool, I know that
Hamman plays in the centre of midfield, so when he gets the ball, I
 expect
him to be in that position, and so try and can iether pass to the side or
back, or forward, or, if brave, try and run. A lot of the time he is out
 of
position, and I end up passing the ball out!, but that's part of the sort
 of
fun. You have to listen to the crowd, if they are louder, you're nearer
 the
oponent's goal, and can try and have a shot. The commentator might say
 your
name louder. I don't know about the new fifa's, but with 2002 till 2004,
 I
don't think they could really be played, since the sound effects of the
 ball
were softer, the commentator didn't say the names much, and, most
 important,
you couldn't really hear tackles. I'm surprised that your friend can play
2006 and 2007, no judgment here, but I've heard that to shoot you have to
hold the d in and then let go when you see the arrow or angle at the
 right
place in the goal. Iether it's not as visual as I've heard, or, if your
friend is totally blind, I'd love to know how he gets his shots on
 target,
and not sailing wide, since I think they were using this on fifa 2004,
 and
 I
couldn't play it, since I could run, but everytime I shot, it went wide,
please ask him what he does, would be very interesting. Of course the bad
thing about the FIFA games is that you definitely need sighted
 assistance,
because you can only move through menues and go to the next matches using
the mouse. I've decided to buy Pro Evolution and Sensible soccer, will
 tell
you if I can play them, talking about taking risks! One hint I can give
 you
is, if you want, for example fifa 2007, wait till 2008 comes out, then
2007's price absolutely falls, so you sort of can take a gamble without
 regreting it too much.
I do think that us blind football players should try and network to find
 solutions.
 Ari

Another cool game was Euro 2000, it even had injuries. What my one friend
enjoyed doing was putting fowls off and just having all these nasty
 tackles.
By the way, has anyone, iether blind or not in your family managed to
 score
with the goalkeeper, and what did the commentator say? I love penalty
shoot-outs. Did anyone ever try in-door soccer on fifa 97 and 98, they
 were
so fast and cool! In-door soccer, there are no out lines or behind the
goals, the ball just bounces off the walls. How do you guys tackle, do you
guys try slide to get the ball, or do you press d to make a tackle, but
 the
problem there is that sometimes you press and you didn't know you already
had the ball and so just kick it away again. I tried sliding a lot.

 Hi Orin,
First, is this our football or American football? How accessible is it,
 are
you just starting out? Maybe, if you're still trying to work stuff out, I
should join your team, the whole blind thing? This is one point I wish
accessible game developers in other countries would really take seriously,
but I do not mean just one or two people, I mean the whole blind
 community.
I can understand why football is not so great for our American brothers,
but, large European blind organisations like RNIB, ONCE and others should
really work together and make a cool football game, one that would have
 real
players, clubs, World Cup, Champion's League, great AI, easily updated
everytime for new players, online playability, commentary, etc.
 Practically,
I think that would benefit the whole blind world, in that football is an
international game. There is super Football, but I really don't count that
as propper football, in that it's more a sort of bord thing with fixed
positions. I don't know the exact ways in which a football game could
 work,
but I imagine things like you can run with the ball, defenders would be
sounds, react before you get tackled kind of thing, the nearer you are to
 an
oponent's goal the louder the crowd would get, I know it would be probably
quite a large project, but it would really be worth it with people
combining, especially as not much is going into developing games these
 days,
in the way that no new bord or any games have come out for ages from these
large organisations. Every year, the organisations could raise funds by
charging for an update with the latest players and stats. Perhaps Richard
 or
someone powerful in the audio games community who have contacts with these
organisations should really suggest it to them. I might be sounding
 totally
mad, but football is the world sport, all sporty blind people would surely
 appreciate it?
 Ari

 Hi Folks,
This is a short note to keep you up to date on the changes to the FPS
 Sarah
 game.
Yes I change the description from Arcade to FPS in the instructions!
I thought it would take a month to make changes due to the seventh Harry
Potter book but real life and reading the book three times delayed my work
 on the game.
I will listthe major changes below:
 1. Sound effects now describe the common objects in the game such as the
hats, candy and brooms rather than words.
 2. I changed the Hufflepuff common room door and common room to match what
the Author described in one of her interviews.
 3. I also change the Ravenclaw common room based on what was in the
 seventh
 book.
 4. Added the boys dormitory to the Gryffindore common room.
 5. Added two new spells to your spell list.
A Disillusionment Charm that hides you
 like a chameleon.
And a spell that Reveals human
 presence on a floor.
This will allow you to tell exactly how far Filch is away from you.
 6. Added two new fortune telling features to the Divination classroom.
A crystal ball which works a lot like the magic eight ball toy, and a tea
 leaf reading system.
 7. An extensive walk through document to help you solve the puzzles in the
 game.
 8. Of course, I have fixed most if not all of the bugs and there are many
minor changes and surprises throughout the game.

I will be sending Sarah the script soon so she can record these changes
 and
as soon as she gets the recording back to me I will add them to the game
 and
then make a patch with the changes so you will not have to download the
 entire game again.
 Stay tuned,
 Phil

 Hello che.

while I take the point about single player games, what you say does
 slightly
concern me as regards the Pvp aspect.

cooperative quests, and interactions with other players deffinately
 appeals
to me, but Pvp isn't quite as much my thing, and I'd be slightly
disappointed if this aspect of the game took things over slightly (as it
 has
in some other games I've heard of).

will there be some kind of limit on player killing, such as only having
specific areas for it? or choosing account types? (pvp or not).

According to my brother, in world of warcraft, you can choose to either
 play
on a Pvp enabled or disabled server, - even on the disabled server,
there are battle ground areas specifically for fighting other players if
 you
want. apparently though, Pvp servers can be a pain, sinse you can
 basically
be ambushed and attacked by total strangers at almost any point when your
not somewhere safe, my brother says this can be a particular pest when out
 of quests.

Of course, other sorts of competitions such as raking, or contests not
involving player killing are apparently encouraged on both servers.

I imagine I'll be more in the minority in wanting slightly less of the Pvp
game aspects, stil, while your at the planning stage I thought I'd put in
 a
 word.

 Beware the Grue!

 Dark.

There simply will not be a single player mode of this game, it would
 take
a lot of extra programming to do and most of the people playing it
 wouldn't
be playing for the single player experience anyway.
I think we have plenty of single player games out there, and the success
of Rail Racer online racing has shown me there is definately a place for
online competition in the blind gaming community.
Additionally, making it online only releves me of the headache of
 building
in anti piracy code, as the program itself will be completely free to
 download.
  Later,
  Che

 Hi list,
Sometime next week I plan to take up work on Raceway again, and before I
do I'd like to have some good discussion on the kinds of tracks the game
 will support.
Obviously, it wouldn't be Nascar-like without 2 mile, half mile, and 1
mile oval tracks. However, I'm thinking the game could be more
interesting if there were some unusual shaped tracks like s shapes,
figure 8 tracks, and so on. What do you racers think?
Also Nascar tracks tend to always move counter clockwise. Yet some games
like Poll Position had clockwise movement as well. Any preference here?
 Thanks.

 Hi Shaun,
At this point the best answer I can give for a time table is it is ready
when it is ready. I have no official time table when testing is going to
begin, when a demo is released, etc...
One thing I can tell you is that starting with Raceway to make testing
fair for everyone I want to go to a paid testing setup. Microsoft does
this, Che does this, and that tends to be more productive than just
giving the games away for free.
Also during the testing cycle money will be coming in to fund the
development rather than developing it and trying to collect cash all at
 once once it is sold.

 shaun everiss wrote:
Any news on when we can apply for testing, I'm always interested.
As for tracks, I'm not much of a racer, but different serfices and
 lengths, etc I suppose.
I don't really watch much moter sports.

A quest generator will be included, much like the way a track editor was
included with Rail Racer, though the quest generator will be much more
 user
 friendly.
I will have a few folks checking out submitted quests, and if they are
good enough they will be plugged into the game, this way fresh content
 will
 continuously be added.
I want the system as open ended and modular as possible, so players can
create their own monsters and items as well, but obviously anything that
 is
created will have to be made official before inclusion into the game.
You will be able to play in this world sooner than you think perhaps, as
 I
plan on releasing the beta to subscribers as soon as it is in a playable
form, though it won't be near its finished state at that time, this way I
can get good feedback and players can enjoy the experience and help create
 it at the same time.
Not sure about monthly price yet, but it will be closer to $5 than $15
 for
 sure.
One other tidbit, we're going to be playing in a world that is a mix of
magic and modern weaponry, so you may for instance be able to cast a spell
on your bullets, so they cause a web of netting to grow over your target
after making impact, that sort of thing.
  Stay tuned...
  Che

Good grief Che! this sounds fantastic! I've been waiting for this type of
game for a veeery long time indeed.

Obviously now your only in the very preliminary planning stage, but one
question that does occur to me regards updates.

Personally, my favourite aspects of rpg gaming are carrying out the
 various
quests and enjoying the plot, and the exploration of the different
environments of the world. I've been incredibly jealous of my brother (a
 big
world of warcraft player), not only because of the game itself, but
 because
of the frequency of updates to both the world and the quests.

so, will the system be such that new quests and areas to explore will
 come
out on a relatively regular basis, - obviously not every week as in
warcraft, but more than say, every six months.

I know it's a very early point to ask the question, but I sort of vaguely
got the idea that some program code can be written in such a way as to
 make
new add ons and so on easier to create.

the voice chatting also sounds cool!

finally, any vague ideas on price? depending upon update frequency, I'd
 be
quite willing to pay as much as $15 a month for a game like that.

If it's too early to think about these sorts of questions now, I
 appologise.

It's just coming back from my weekly dice roleplay session, and finding
 this
mail, my brain is whirling with expectation and possibilities, - even
 if
it is likely to be a while before anything concrete turns up.

 all the best.

 Dark.

 USA Games News

 Sep. 22, 2007

 Introduction

 Hello gamers,
Welcome again to the monthly USA Games news letter. As always things
here are running a little behind schedule. That tends to happen when I
discover things that I would like to fix, change, or improve before a
product goes to full release status.
Though, one reason Montezuma's Revenge beta 2 is running behind schedule
is that I took several days off of development as I reformatted my
laptops hard drive, upgraded it to Windows Vista, installed all the
patches and upgrades for my software, and that took more time than I had
 anticipated.
However, on the bright side Montezuma's Revenge is coming along rather
nicely, and STFC 2.0is now in the works. So read on to get the full scoop.

 Montezuma's Revenge

Montezuma's Revenge public beta 2 will likely be a nice upgrade for
those still playing beta 1. Many of the serious bugs and issues have
been resolved, and there are some new features in the works for beta 2.
In beta 1 and earlier versions there was a well known bug in which a
player would die during a jump and then respawn at the exact point where
he/she died rather than returning to the start of the level. I have
completely rewritten the jump code, and as a result this bug is no
 longer in the game.
Also sometimes it was possible to jump through walls, doors, and other
opsticals. While it was pretty rare in beta 1, the new jump code has
 also resolved this bug.
New in beta 2 there is now an additional bonus level to play in the
demo. The new demo will allow demo players to play level 1, 2, and the
bonus level. For additional levels you will have to obtain a full
licensed copy once it becomes available this winter.
At this point in time I am personally working on a patch for beta 2
which will support multiuser environments under XP and Vista. I don't
think it will take long to make the necessary changes to support
multiple users and accounts since the Microsoft .Net documentation I
have read indicates what I want to do is a pretty miner upgrade all
 things considered.
As far as a release schedule I don't have one yet. Though, I will be
certain to let everyone know once I have a clearer idea of when things
 are going to happen.

STFC 2.0. Unlike the 1.x series I don't think 2.0 will take nearly as
long to create as the first version of the game. Mainly because I have
allot of code from games like Montezuma's Revenge I can just copy, cut,
 and paste over into STFC.
For example, I can easily reuse the Formula, Audio, Voice, and other
classes for Montezuma's Revenge with no modifications for STFC. That
alone will save weeks of time, testing, and development.
A week or so ago I sat down and wrote all the base classes for the
Klingon, Federation, Cardassian, Romulan, and Borg ships and stations.
As a result the prerequisite classes and functionality has already been
 put into the game.
Once I get Montezuma's Revenge finished and get Raceway off to a good
start I should be able to rewrite most of the code necessary to make
 STFC playable.

 Sincerely,
 Thomas Ward

Absolutely, and it will work fine with multiple accounts, as has been
 brought up on this list.
I agree with Thomas that if you aren't running multiple accounts with
 just
one admin you are putting yourself at unneccessary risk.
Please keep in mind, the coding for this game has not even started yet,
and it is a very ambitious project, so the beta probably won't be out for
 another year or so.

  Hi Yvonne,
Sound RTS is quite different from the concept I am outlining for the
 online RPG.
Sound RTS is more of a tactical battle game, designed to play like a
 chess

game, one at a time, but with no carry over or character creation
 involved
 from game to game.
The world I am creating will be very interactive with dozens of players
playing in the world at once and interacting with each other, either in
groups fighting together or just hanging out, swapping equipment, gold,
 etc.

and war stories as they voice chat.
There will be quest for players to fulfill for xp, both as individuals
 and

as a team in groups or clans, as well as randomly generated monsters to
 fight.
The environment and interface will be completely unique, using the
 mouse
and keyboard to fight and cast spells.
For example, as you walk around a village, you might hear a couple of
people talking in the distance, and as you near them their voices will
 grow
louder. A friend in the group may ask you for a force field spell if
 you
are a mage build, and assuming you have mana to spare, you can grab your
mouse, draw the proper spell design on your mouse pad and give them a
 force
 field for their next battle.
The strength of the spell will be determined by your abilities as a
 mage
and your proficiency at casting that particular spell.
Anyone that has played Rail Racer will know I design with lots of
 features

for great replay value, and this new RPG will be no different.
It will basically be a blind version of something like World of
 Warcraft,
with a monthly fee paid to play it.
I will be posting a poll on Blind Adrenaline soon to get some feedback
 on
the RPG, so keep your ears peeled.
I have one more small project to get out of the way first, then full
development will start on this immerssive new world for us all to enjoy.
  Later,
  Che

 Che,
I have downloaded beta eight of sound rts. it is taking me some
 time
to get used to playing it but I can't help but notice its potential. I
think it would be the perfect way to make a fantasy rpg. You could
combine this concept with the rpg concept. Anyway, let me know what
 you
 think.

I love the new Mario game. So far, I've gotten to level 2--almost to the
end, but by the time I get there I get excited and hit too many buttons too
fast. My only complaint is that right arrow moves forward, but also ends
the game if you make no menu selection, so if you're playing and you die,
and you hit right arrow before you realize you're dead, the game quits.
That's my only complaint though. If anyone wants, I can do a speed run of
the first couple of levels.

I downloaded this game yesterday, but haven't tried it yet.
However, I must caution you that the installation isn't accessible,
at least with JAWS, in that the prompts and buttons aren't visible to
the JFW cursor. It was created with a package called Install

just keep pressing Enter. Let's hope they use a different package in
 a future version.
Thanks.

 Hi Folks
I think this article is important enough for the blind community to post
 it
 in full:
Video games' new frontier: The visually impaired -
 from CNN.com
 By Steve Mollman
 September 4, 2007

 . Story Highlights
. New interactive music video game developed for visually impaired
. Nintendo Wii's Wiimote controller or keyboard used to play
. Developers hope game will also be played online by mainstream players

Forget shoot-em-up addicts -- video games are reaching out to the rest of
 us.

The greatest symbol of this is the Wii console from Nintendo. Its
 innovative
wireless control -- the Wiimote -- has even non-gamers excited as they
 swing
it through the air to control, say, a tennis racket on the screen.

Wii's Wiimote may play a pivotal role in bringing the visually impaired
 into
 the electronic gaming fold.

But not quite everyone has been reached. One group is still largely
 ignored
by video game makers: the blind.

With that in mind, a team of researchers at the Singapore-MIT GAMBIT Game
Lab in Massachusetts set out this summer to make a music-based video game
 that's
designed for mainstream players and also accessible to the blind.

Appropriately, perhaps, they incorporated the Wiimote into the game-play,
 though it's optional.

The resulting DJ game, designed for the PC, is called AudiOdyssey. In it,
players try to lay down different tracks in a song by swinging and waving
 the
Wiimote in time with the beats. Or they can just use keyboard controls.

The game reminded this writer of my lack of any rhythm whatsoever. I used
the keyboard version, where you're instructed to follow the beat by
 hitting
 an
arrow key. Miss a beat and you get an ugly sound. Things sounded pretty
ugly. But I did start to get a little better after 15 minutes and was
 awarded occasionally
by crowd cheers. It's a fun game. And I got a kick out of it.

So did 41-year-old Alicia Verlager. For her, though, the fun is a bit more
 significant. She's visually impaired.

Play is one of the ways in which people build relationships, she notes.
It's fun to take on the challenge of a game and take turns encouraging
 and
 laughing
at each other's sillier mistakes. That's the experience I am really
 craving
in a game -- the social aspects.

AudiOdyssey is presently single-player only, and there's no scoring
 system.
But a multiplayer online version will be released in a few months.
 Intriguingly,
players in this version won't necessarily know whether their opponent is
blind -- and it won't make a difference in the game.

Ideally, they shouldn't even know that it is designed with the visually
impaired in mind, since we want to make a 'mainstream' game, says Eitan
 Glinert,
a 25-year-old grad student at GAMBIT and the lead researcher on
 AudiOdyssey,
 which is his thesis.

That said, after they find out that the game is designed to be
 accessible,
 it increases awareness, he adds.

Though using the Wiimote isn't necessary, Glinert believes it's a more fun
and expressive option. From a development standpoint, getting the Wiimote
 to
work with a PC game (it's meant to be used only with Nintendo's Wii) was a
 considerable engineering challenge.

And players who want to use the device will have to do a little extra
 work,
as well, including linking a Wiimote to a PC wirelessly via Bluetooth
 signal
(instructions on how to do this are included with the game).

Verlager believes AudiOdyssey's use of the Wiimote makes it unique among
accessible games. It's also, as far as she knows, the first accessible
 music
 game
for blind players. A startup called All inPlay offers online games,
including poker, designed to allow play between blind and sighted users.

For Verlager, it's important that games be mainstream and inclusive --
rather than special and for blind players.

I really get frustrated with the way blind people are portrayed as if
 they
live in isolation from the rest of the world and have no sighted family or
 friends,
 she says.

Media, which includes video games, is something people share and
participate in together, a way of building relationships and exploring
 feelings and attitudes
 about real life, she says.

For now, AudiOdyssey is an early concept prototype, says Glinert. But
ultimately, we'd love to bring the game to consoles, he adds. If we get
 the chance
we'll definitely move quickly on that.

The current version of AudiOdyssey is available for free at the GAMBIT
 Game
 Lab Web site.

Subject: [Audyssey] Tomb Raider and Open Source Ideas

 Hi all,
A couple of weeks ago we were discussing on list about making a possible
Tomb Raider game that is accessible. At the time I felt I shouldn't get
involved with a direct clone do to copyrights, but I've reconsidered,
and have thought of a possible plan to do it.
First, most of the companies holding copyrights tend to go after
companies and individuals which make a derivative work based on a
specific trade mark or product, and then attempt to sell it.However,
companies tend to leave general fan fiction alone when the person or
persons are doing it for free, and don't try and market or publicize
their work. Which is where a free and open source project might come in
 to play.
My thoughts are once I clear my schedule of the current projects, such
as Monty, I could begin work on a free and open source 3D game engine
that we could use to recreate some of our favorite sighted games that
have legal restrictions attached to them. Obviously, the trade marks,
sounds, characters, are all legally owned by their companies, but if we
write the games as fan fiction without selling the works we might have a
 chanse of pulling this off.
Second, I've been a fan of Tomb Raider for a long time, and I'd be
interested to know if you have any requests as to which of the 6 games
you would like me to begin with.
I'm personally thinking of starting with Angel of Darkness just because
I don't have the original game sounds, but the sounds in that game are
pretty common sounds to come across such as: rain, elevators, punching,
kicking, cemmi-automatics, elivators, wild dogs, and hundreds of other
generic day to day sounds I can pick up, and make the USA Games version
as near to the original as humanly possable. The music, fmv sequences
and cut scenes are also easy to come by. Finally, Angel of Darkness
didn't offer as many puzzles as earlier games where you spent allot of
 time solving puzzles.
Though, I can say as far as the best game to actually play for shear fun
value would have to be Last Revelation. In TRLR Lara Croft is searching
for the amulet and armour of horus. Not surprisingly Von Croy is also
looking for those items, they try to knock Lara off, and the evil
Egyptian God Set returns for a final battle, but is no match for Lara
 Croft.
Anyone have any suggestions, thoughts, or input about this idea?

 Hiya,
I just stumbled onto an interest in play by email games, especially
play by email strategy games. I just felt I'd share my findings with you
all, as this genre of gaming isn't one that Audyssey seems to have covered
 extensively.
There is one particular PBEM title which I'm involved with, which has
captured my interest somewhat. It's called Atlantis, and there are many
versions of it out therre. What sets it apart from a lot of other
strategy type games is that there isn't an ASCII map. Reports are just
text which describe in some detail the world as seen by player units,
describe the statistics of those units, etc. It's really quite neat.
What is more, orders are submitted via email to the Atlantis server, and
they're in a more or less comprehensible format.
The particular game I play is called St Atlantis, and has a web page
 at:
 http://www.arno-saxena.de/atlantis/atl_home.php
I highly recommend those interested in strategy take at least a look at
this game. It's quite interesting in my view anyway. I'd be glad to hear
 your impressions.
 All the best,
 Zack.

I have Wrecking Ball on hold for a while so that I can make an air hockey
game. The AI is almost complete, but the real reason I'm doing this is to
get some experience with setting up mouse support. That's right, call me
mister wizard--I'm about to turn your mouse into an air hockey paddle.
In rail racer, the cars move fast--but you'll have to have even faster
reflexes to guard those goals and make some yourself. Of course, my

 Wrecking Ball.
Once Air Hockey is done, I'll put mouse support in Wrecking Ball and um,

Subject: [Audyssey] Question Regarding Alter Aeon

 Hi,
I'm thinking about getting on Alter Aeon, although I can't think
of a good nickname for my character. Anyway, I was wondering if
there's anything to be careful of during the game such as when
disconnecting? For instance, with Miriani, it's recommended that when
you disconnect, you should be in your starship, which in turn should
be landed on a planet. (I found this out the hard way.)
Thanks.

Of course, my
standard keyboard interface is still in place as well, just like in
 Wrecking Ball.
Once Air Hockey is done, I'll put mouse support in Wrecking Ball and um,
 we'll have a ball!

Well my first AGM project was going to be a remake of the Atari game
 Frogs
and Flies, but another idea struck me while I was attempting to figure
 out
how to do that. So now I've switched gears and am starting work on
 another
Atari remake, Adventure. Adventure is, for all intents and purposes, the
first true Roleplaying game. It is I suppose the ancestor of the Legend
 of
Zelda series and perhaps even Final Fantasy. In Adventure, you'll
 control
a bold adventurer out to find treasure and recover a stolen chalice from
the clutches of an evil dragon. But it won't be easy. The dragon has
enlisted the aid of his two vicious brothers, whose fortresses stand
between you and your ultimate goal. While I do intend to add quite a bit
more to this remake than was found in the original, it still won't
 exactly
be fancy. Right now I'm just attempting to figure out how to link
 portals
to specific worlds, then the opponents and things like that. I've
 already
written out a basic manual and i do have some sounds already selected,
 but
if anyone on list has or knows where I can find some decent dragon
 sounds
(mainly fire breathing), I'd appreciate it. If anyone wants me to send
them the manual so they can see what I'm trying to do, I'll be happy to
 do
 so.

 Hiya,
Off and on over the past year or so, I've been working at playing
through an old DOS game which Michael reviewed in Issue 1 of Audyssey.
I've not come anywhere close to beating it, and don't want to really.
I've yet to really make it much of anywhere--true, I've gotten fairly
 rich
and found a few rather amazing places, but haven't yet found any real
direction. I don't mind this in the least.
One thing I love about this game, which I haven't found anywhere else,
is a sense of a world with unlimited places to explore. There is this
 odd
sense that if I just keep going in a direction somewhere I'll find
something interesting, or run into a new town, or a new inn, or a new
place where I can appreciate the depth of detail that's offered here.
I've never before encountered a sense like the following:
When the character in Fallthru travels from town to town over roads,
 it
seems like he's really traveling somewhere. I get this odd sense that,
wow, that really did take three days! (That's game time, of course.)
Since I haven't really scratched the surface of this game yet, I have to
wonder what it'll be like if I keep going.
I know this game isn't for everyone. It's tedious and hard to get
anywhere sometimes because you're constantly trying to stay alive. There
are so many places to go that it is hard to choose. I find myself
 setting
out long term goals for spots I want to see and realizing, a few days and
some food later, that I really should've reconsidered. No other game has
 quite given me this feeling.
I'm just curious, therefore, if anybody on this list still plays the
game? If so, does it stay this engrossing all the way through? No,
 don't
answer that. I want to find out for myself.
 All the best,
 Zack.

Hello all. I found another mud that I haven't completely formed an
 opinion
on. I can say that I think its interesting to be sure, and it has a bit
 of
a learning curve to it. Its called aliens verses predator. Basicly its a
full PK mud, butt, newbies won't be attacked for five hours so that they
 can
build themselves up. It uses mission points to make you rise levels and
 get
equipment. You can find better weapons go on staff run missions and stuff
of that nature. The concept is that you take one of three groups the
 aliens
like are in the movie alien, the yautja race from the movie predator, and
the marines that faught those aliens in alien Ii. The mariens have two
races. human natural soldier, synthetic soldier made from synthetics.
 They
also have three sub classes you can take. Sniper, rifleman, and
 specialist.
The aliens are just one race, butt, their sub groups are warrior, sentry,
and drone. The yautja/predator race have hunter, trapper, and vanguard.
The predator hunter and trapper class have these suits that allow you to
become invissible and hunt your apponents. The alien race when you go
warrior has this glan that gives you some interesting abilities. I
 haven't
played the chars long enough yet to see what its like when you get to the
higher levels. I did my marine char wrong so I haven't really taken a
 look
at it to much. I really like my predator and alien chars though. the
 port
 and address are

 avpmud.com 4000

They seem pretty friendly that is when they're not trying to kill you. I
found that its best to use your five hours wisely. My chars still have a
bit of time left, though I imagine that that won't last to much longer.
 Take care all,
 Scott

 darkness
I know is the tabletop Roleplay system produced by white wolf publishing,
where you can play as Vampires, ware wolves, mages and things at different
periods of history, from the roman empire to modern day. If there's a game

updates to Rail Racer. Would it be possible to write in a keystroke to
skip the Blind Adrenaline logo? Wile it's cool the first couple times it
gets rather old rather quickly, and I feel that it might be a good idea to
include a means of skipping it, at least after the Welcome to Rail Racer

Subject: Re: [Audyssey] Your MUD/Internet CRPG Wish List

 Hi brian.

An interesting question. I've made a bit of a study of text rpg's, as I've
been playing them for several years now and have tried very many of them,
from the popular to the obscure.

I actually now almost have a tick list of things I look for in a game.

1: navigation. If the game screne is cluttered with adds that get in the
 way
of my screen reader, or I have to arrow down through several million
 buttons
and stats to find the text of the actions and locations, I'm not likely to
continue playing. of course, if my screen reader's various navigation
functions (like skipping betwene panes and frames), can help this is a
 pluss.

2: exploration and quests. I'm a fairly major fan of traveling through and
exploring a large game world, with quests, other pc's and npc's, as well
 as
combat encounters scattered through it so that you have to discover them
 for
yourself. There are many games however that have virtually no exploration
 at
all, just a shop and a grinding zone.

3: Writing style and atmosphere. Does the game have a nice plot and
 setting?
or just the generic DD world, with the same old races and classes.
connected to this, how well written is the game text such as the location,
action and combat descriptions (of course assuming the game has! combat
 and
 action descriptions, which many don't).

4 : stat grinding and pvp. One of my biggest profound annoyences with many
games that pretend to be rpgs, is that they basically devolve into
 resource
managing a set of stats with repetative actions, all so that you can have
higher stats when you compare them with other players, aka pvp. Getting
constantly killed by exp hunters is not fun either. Obviously any game
 that
involves experience and leveling is going to involve some kind of
 grinding,
but there do seem to be games in which this is litterally all you do.

5: repetative combat. connected with the Grinding issue, games where your
constantly hitting attack can be fairly dull i find. k

6: continuing diversity. there are several games, such as the Legend of
 the
green dragon varients, where once you've been through the game, things
 just
repeat. There does come a point though where you've been everywhere, and
done everything that's practically doable, and your just repeating, -
usually for grinding, ranking and pvp purposes. While I understand games
cannot be constantly updated with new areas, if a game continues with
nothing new to do, after a while I feel it's time to move on to something
 else.

Of course, there are some genuinely complex economic, political and
 stratogy
games out there, such as Warring factions or Ashes of angels, but imho
 these
are a slightly different thing to the sort of fantasy rpg's I've been
talking about, and I'm guessing that as a role player this isn't the sort
 of
 game you were considdering creating.

appologies if this E-mail sounds a bit bitter and exacting, but as I said
I've tried literally hundreds of these sorts of games and have continually
beene disappointed with what I find. I will also admit, that I'm frankly
incredibly! jealous of my brothers world of Warcraft playing, and would
 love
to find something at least vaguely similar in text.

 All the best,

 Dark.

Is that because muds are telnet based and thus easier to access than web
stuff? What is it that you like in MUDs that you haven't seen
 elsewhere?

And like I said, I don't have any definite plans right now, just ideas

 Hi,

Not so much a question about the editor but playing the tracks you make.
 Can
you earn money on tracks that you create when you win?

Indeed, GWSE was great. I really did appreciate it... Too bad it's gone,
for the foreseeable future anyway. Bah.
Speaking of games with different feel to them, I have recently stumbled
on a mud which has a rather unique approach to characters, at least.
Namely, they pregenerate them with backgrounds, relationships, skills,
 etc.
You RP them and put your own spin on them. I don't know how appealing
 this
might be to anyone: it is awful different.
 Thanks,
 Zack.

Finally someone else who sees the light! I've been saying that game
sucked since it was Star Conquest. The only difference is then, we
had the significantly better GWSE to run to. No such luck today. Stupid
 GWSE.

Hello all. I don't know if anyone can help with this but, here's my
problem. I'm looking for a mud with a modern day feel that would allow
me
to role play if I want. It would have vehicles that you can actually
drive
where you could put in a destination and it would actually take time to
drive there. I'd like something where you could work and do odd jobs and
interact with people to accomplish those jobs. And I want something with
something of a different feel to it in a mud. Its really hard to explain
exactly what it is I want, but I'll know it when I find it. Godwars Ii
is
different in its own way than most other muds out there, and achaea is
also
different from most in the feel of it and how it functions. But, there
just
isn't any easy way to find that elusive treasure of a game that really
makes
you want to keep coming back for more and grow a character after time. I
know of miriani, but I'm looking for something a bit more um down to
earth?
I just don't know how to put what i want in to words but I think if
you've
had to really search for that game you just like out of the load of games
out there, you'll know kind of what I mean. Thanks much, Scott

 Hi all,

Me and a friend have been beta testing this mud that has been running
for 2 years now however has been absent from coding and things for a
 long time.

It's starting up again, and it's going in beta in September. At least
what's what they hope. Okay, it sucks that you don't get to drive
around, but you do get to walk, it sucks that you don't get all these
things that a civillian gets, well that's because you're not a
cevillion. you're a commander of a real world country.

Say that again? Real, world, country. Complete with military options.
You can command things such as Poland, Ireland, well now you can't
because I'm commanding it, North and South America anything from those,
you'll be able to command the US I think soon.

There still isn't any of the muds that we actually want. The night (TNC)
is, but I personally hate emoting every action.

Yes, I wish GWSE would come back too. Since I know how to roleplay
better i could probably serve useful, and it sucks that when it was open
people were being stupid with me hacking my ships and not teling me how
 to properly protect it.

which can be viewed at http://www.sars.gov.za/Email_Disclaimer.pdf

 Hi Daniel
 I tried out both games.
I will reply inline to your questions.
Were the instructions helpful in teaching you how to play the games?
 Oh yes,, very clear.
How long did it take you to have a good understanding of how to play
 each version of the game?
Not long at all. When playing the first time I understood it already.
Which version, FingerDance1 or FingerDance2, was easier to play and why?
 I find both versions tricky.
But I prefer version1 because my ear is tuned into drums much better
than to sliding sounds. I can react quicker to drum rolls.
I sometimes find that when I press the correct letter I still hear an
error sound. A fraction of a second after *I heard the high drum sound
in the left speaker for instance, I press q but then I hear an error
sound. This only happens sometimes. Some times if I press the correct
letter a fraction of a second after that specific drum roll I hear the
clap sound, but sometimes itplays the error sound.
I further suggest that after the drum roll played and there is about 2
seconds silence on the left that the game should still accept the
letter I press. IN other words: I hear a high drum roll on the left,
then I hear say 2 drum rolls from the right and then one from the left
again, so while that 2 drums rolls in the right speaker are playing, I
should be able to press the one that played on the left.
I hope my explanation is clear.
If you played each game more than once, what was your score the first
time you played it and what was your score the last time you played it?
The score will be spoken at the end of the game in terms of a ranking.
For example, you score could be terrible, pretty good, very good, or
 incredible.
My first score was terrible; my last score was not very good.
Were the games fun and/or interesting?
Oh yes, these kind of games improves my reaction time and also hand ear
 coordination.
Do you think that the gameplay ideas presented by FingerDance could be
used to make a fun Rhythm-Action audio game that you would like to play?
 Oh yes.
If you could, how would you improve these games?
My suggestion here is that you create a game that will test the gamer's
reaction to various keystrokes. It can work like this: while the song is
playing, a voice speaks different keystrokes such as letters, numbers,
punctuation keys as well as hot keys such as shift+down arrow. And then
you only have a few seconds to press that keystroke before the next one
 is spoken.

 Okay, here's what I think.
First, let me brag a bit--I got a perfect score the second time I played
 the
one with the sliding synth. I thought the synth sounds themselves were a
bit obnoxious, but quickly realized what great cues they are. I like the
drum sounds better, but I can't get better than terrible. I think one
reason is that there are differing lengths--sometimes you only get a half
beat lead-in, sometimes a whole beat, sometimes just a quarter beat.
 Also,
I wouldn't use toms for both the low and high--maybe a kick bass for the
 low
and a tom or bongo for the high, but they have to be distinct--and also,
varied lead times is good but you'll need different sounds--a low tom for
 a
quarter beat lead-in, booming kick for a half beat lead-in, a rolling
 snare
for a whole beat lead-in and so on. You wouldn't even need to add more
keys--but I would add two more in, for center speaker sounds to make it
 even
harder. Also, the music should get progressively more interesting and the
cues, which should blend in pretty well, more and more frequent. I really
like the concept though, and I hope you keep working on it. It would be
nice if we could hook up a DDR mat to the computer and actually dance to
 the
 cues.

 Hello all.
I’ve just finished developing a prototype version of a Rhythm-Action
 audio
game that I am using as a research project for my graduation at the
University of Oregon. I learned of this mailing list from a kind person
on the audiogames.net forums. I have two versions of the game up and
running. I was wondering if anyone here would be wonderful enough to
 play
the games and answer a few short questions that will help me improve the
 design.

Here is the URL for the download page:
 http://www.cs.uoregon.edu/~dmiller6/FingerDance/fd.html

There are instructions on how to download and set up the game on this
site. You will need an unzipping tool to decompress the files. I
recommend WinZip or 7-Zip, but any tool that can handle .ZIP files should
work fine. This project was developed in JAVA, so it should work on just
about any platform. However, initial tests on MAC systems have been
problematic so it is only recommended that you download and play this
 game
on a Windows machine running Windows 2000 or any newer version.

There are two versions of the game, FingerDance1 and FingerDance2. Each
version uses different cue sounds that will tell you when and how to play
along with the game’s song. Before you play, you can listen to a short
instructional description of the game. Also, the readme.txt file
 included
with in the zip file has more instructions and hints on how to play.
Also, it helps to have a good pair of headphones since the game makes use
of stereo to convey the cue sounds. Please note that these games are
still very early in development and serve as a testing environment so
 that
I can experiment with different play styles for these types of rhythmical
 audio games.

If anyone is interested, I would really appreciate some feed back by
having you respond to the following questions after playing the each
 version of the game:

Were the instructions helpful in teaching you how to play the games?

How long did it take you to have a good understanding of how to play each
 version of the game?

Which version, FingerDance1 or FingerDance2, was easier to play and why?

Do you think that the gameplay ideas presented by FingerDance could be
used to make a fun Rhythm-Action audio game that you would like to play?

If you could, how would you improve these games?

Any responses would be much appreciated. I’m currently writing up a
research paper that is going to be submitted to the ASSETS

 Just go to: http://www.azabat.co.uk/

and you'll find it in the downloads section. I also believe there was a
pretty good review of all the asabat games in one of the Audeasy

I don't think there's one out there already.

 Just wondering.

Pen and paper gaming is a misnomer. Originally, role-playing games were
released exclusively as paper books. When you designed a character for
 the
game, you wrote down all your choices on a piece of paper on what's called
 a
character sheet. When I began playing such games 25 years ago, I simply
made my choices and had a friend write them down for me.

Nowadays, many game companies are releasing their rules in electronic
formats that we can use. As for character sheets, you can now complete
 them
in Word or Notepad or some other similar application, and print them out
 if
your gamemaster wants a hard copy. There are also Web sites for specific
game systems where you can fill out an HTML form and then print out the
nicely formatted character sheet that will make your GM happy.

Thus, pen and paper might also be referred to as keyboard and disk, or
 something similar.

Role-playing games are one type of game where we really aren't at a
disadvantage at all when we play.

Depending on how the game is done you could do this in notepad.
I have to do this with messages in sod so I remember sequences.
 paus and alt tab.
If its physically writing is it pen write or command entering as in an
 text
 adventure.

oh, so we would be able to play this game then? how does it work? you
mean you actually have to write things down for it? so how would that
work if we're blind?

  Hi Brian,
This list is open to any game that is accessible or can be made
accessible to blind and low vision gamers weather it is board games,
pen and paper games, video games, audio games etc... Since you
mentioned you are willing to offer ascii text copies of your pen and
paper game that would fall in the category of reasonable
accessibility for blind computer users who use screen reading software.
As for the game itself it sounds interesting, and I am sure those of
us on the list who are in to pen and paper RPG games would be
interested in helping out. So ask away.

Subject: [GMAGamesTalk] The new GMA Mud client is coming

 Hi all,

VipMud is a Mud client that we are currently about to alpha test. For
 those
of you who do not know what a Mud Client is, it is a communications
 program
which allows you to communicate with on-line multi-user games on the
 internet.

In the past such clients as the following were used:
 1. GMud. More or less accessible, but not usually right out of the box.
Its main weakness was that it had no scripting capabilities, and in my
opinion not too much better than a Telnet client.
 2. TinTin+ - an Unix text -based client which is an excellent program,
 but
it was only available for those accessing the internet through a Unix
 shell.
 3. ZMud - Another excellent program, but almost totally inaccessible.
Mush Client - A reportedly good client supported by Jaws scripts, but it
does not work right out of the box. Certainly it is not as powerful as
 TinTin+ nor ZMud.

The VipMud client that I always wanted would do the following:
 1. work right out of the box without having to download scripts or make
 many
 setup option changes.
 2. Work directly with Jaws, Window Eyes, and MS Sapi.
 3. Be able to use multiple voices concurrently, and be able to mix MS
 Sapi
speech with a screen reader voice. Also have different voices assigned to
different activities such as incoming text, command entry, script
 editing,
 system messages, and so on.
 4. The gamer should be able to play multiple characters on a single Mud
 or
on multiple Muds at one time, and the characters should be able to work
together using triggers, aliases, macros, and other scripting commands.
 5. Support for.Wav, .OGG, and .MP3 files. These files should be played
 as
background, or when an event is triggered such as when you kill a monster
 or
you sustain an injury, or to indicate low stats such as energy, mana, hit
 points, and so on.
 6. The scripting commands should be voice oriented. For example, you may
want to stop speaking spam, but you may want it still displayed on the
screen for future use. Or you don't want something displayed on the
 screen,
 but you want it spoken.
 7. Lots of accessibility aids. An example of one is let's say a
 character
name Xandiavier asks you a question. It is a painful and time consuming
experience to first find his name on the output screen, if your client
allows this, and then cut and copy it to your entry field. inStead you
could type: Tell X, then press control-space to complete the word with
 the
client doing the work by finding it in your recent output info, and then
finishing with how's it going? The End result is Tell Xandiavier
 How's
it going? Other shortcuts are needed as well, such as quickly finding a
previously entered command by typing one or more of its leading
 characters
and pressing, say Shift-space. Another helpful tool would allow you to
extract hard to remember place names, character names, spells, and
 weapons
from a built-in list of names and phrases which you maintain with just a
 simple keystroke.
 8. Be able to support powerful scripting capabilities to give you
 complete
control of your actions and environment.

VipMud does all of the above and much more. It is almost completely
 written
and is going into alpha testing. Beta testing will start in the summer
sometime, and it should be coming out early fall, and so stay tuned.

 Regards,
 David Greenwood

 Hi che,

sounds great, I've been waiting for a fully accessible Rpg game ever sinse
 I
first discovered audio games, --- let me know if your in need of beta
 testers.

If it is for reference purposes, the 2nd edition players handbook and gm
handbook would probably be fine. From those two old Cd roms I mentioned, I
can probably extract a good many of the 2nd ed books, including the ones
 for
various specialist classes, though I'd imagine by now they're all
 available
online, especially as chronologically, 2nd ed is now two editions back
(which is why the resources for it are available, being sort of Rping
 abandonware).

 good luck with the game.

ah, thanks for the info there Dark.
I am contemplating creating an online RPG game for all us blind folks,
using what I have learned from the multiplayer aspects of Rail Racer.
I don't see the need to reinvent the wheel as far as character creation,
combat rules and the like go, so I am hoping to find documentation on how
 the various components work.
I have some ideas that will make this a very unique and immerssive game
experience for the blind, where lots of blinks from around the world can
come together to role play their hearts out.
This is all in the outlining stages at this point, as I am spending my
coding time finishing up the final details of Rail Racer, but I am quite
serious about taking the task on.
One of the more difficult aspects I foresee is map and quest creation,
 so
I plan on making a map generator so folks can create areas of their own
 that
can be plugged into the main playable maps.
From what I have discovered with the online aspects of Rail Racer, this
 is
all feasible, and should work quite smoothly on my dedicated server for
 the
 amount of players I anticipate.
Anyway, like I say it is just in the planning stages at this point, but
 I
will keep you all updated as the ideas and techniques for the game and
 interface solidify.
  Later all,
   Che

 Hi Phil.

As I said In my reply to che, while the Srd is great as a resource (I've
 got
a lot of anticipatory pleasure checking out the spell lists for my Paladin
of freedom), I didn't find it quite as helpful on the matter of basic
character creation, or saying what the various terms such as feets, skills
 etc mean.

Of course, this could just be me being dim, or looking at the wrong part,
though i do wonder, given the highly explicit disclaimer that says the Srd
doesn't publish char creation rules if these have been missed out somehow.

Certainly, when I joined the DD game the other week, I needed a fair
 amount
of stuf explained that I couldn't find in the srd, - though again this
 could just me being dim.

Luckily, the Gm is a very decent bloke and highly experienced, - he
 also
owns more rule books than is entirely reasonable, so he didn't
 particularly
mind pandering to my lack of information, - or brains.

 Beware the Grue!

also their was another game called let's by holleywood wheir your aim was to

in my time i played loads of board games.

another game i liked was a talking board game. it was called castle of doom.
you would press the dice button and it would tell you what space to move to
and it would make sounds so you knew what was happening. you needed
sightedpeople to help you move counters but other than that it was really

 Hi Dark,
Yeah, there are allot of board games out there that work similar to the
one we know and love. For example, there is a game called Hotels. It is
like Monopoly but cooler in ways.
In short, the Hotels game is where you go around the world building the
biggest and best Hotels. As you improve them, expand them, etc you
charge more and more. Your job is of course is to outbuild and drive
 your competition into bankrupcy.
Of course I can imagine an even cooler idea where you buy and own famous
Hotels rather than made up ones.

Fair enough Jim, I did wonder if something like that might be a pest to
 program.

Personally, I'd deffinately like to see another board game next, - I
 do
rather like game of life and monopoly, have played them on several
 occasions
against friends as well. It's particularly nice to have something like
 that
on computer and not need to keep a hulking great braille monopoly board
knocking around, and I don't ever think there's been a braille version of
the game of life at all!

I believe there are several games around that use similar rules,
 some
of them i've played (with sombody reading cards etc.

Two I particularly remember were the pyramid game, where you had to be
 first
to get a dead phairo's sarcophagus to the valley of the kings and build a
pyramid, and Ratrace, which was similar to monopoly, accept you had to
 buy
various status symbols from the other players in order to become a rich
upperclass snob (a rather sarcastic game).

Well, that'd be my thoughts games wise, though I'm sure other people have
 different ideas.

 Hi Dark,

One problem with expanding the Monopoly board is that it would make all
current board files no good. And as you said the chance and community
chest cards must have a certain format because of what they do money or
piece movement wise. Making it so that one could edit the tokens would
 be
possible, but truthfully I do not plan to do any more versions of
 Monopoly.

I'm glad to hear that you like the idea for editable player files for
 baseball. Thanks for saying so.

I really do hope to work on something brand new after the new version of
baseball. Don't know what yet, but would like to work on something
 brand
 new.

 Hello everyone it's Jason again.
I was wondering about if an accessible game of soccer could be created.
It would be great to here crowd noise players kicking the ball and having
names of teams just like the world cup and I hope the U.SA wins the cup
 this
year but good luck to all the soccer teams out there. I was also hoping
when you score a goal the announcer shouts goal in excitement and the
 crowd
goes crazy and you here the victory song for each team.

 really seems charmingly fun!
 Ari
 Diner Dash Nintendo DS, PSP

 nick gillett

Diner Dash makes you the sole member of the waiting staff in a

sequence of progressively larger and busier restaurants. Manage

the queue, seat diners, take orders, pass them to the kitchen,

supply interim snacks, bring the food to the right table, pour

the drinks, offer dessert, bring the bill, clear the table and

drop off the dirty crockery at the kitchen. It starts easy and

gets steadily more taxing with the addition of bigger tables,

different sized parties, diners who eat very slowly even when you

really need their table back and the tendency of customers to

walk out if you take too long over any of the above. Reminiscent

of the gameplay made famous by Nintendo's 1980s Game Watch

series, it requires management of increasingly hard to contain

chaos and demands enormous concentration, which may sound like

hard work, but is actually a pleasingly frenetic way to waste

sizable portions of the tiny amount of time that constitutes

 human existence.

 Hello gamers,

I finally found some time to read issue 50 of Audyssey magazine and I read
about the game World of legends there and wanted to try it out.

I clicked on the link which was posted by the developer in the forum on
 audiogames.net:
 http://www.rslgames.bravehost.com/projects.html

From there, I clicked on the logo of the game and came to the project
page.
Now there are links for downloading the game itself and a guide for the
different classes. But when I click on one of the download links, I come
 to
a web hoster and nothing is there to find about the download I just want
 to
 make.

Well, am I doing something wrong or has the developer changed the location
 of his game?
Could someone please give me the right url or even send me the file off
 list
to my e-mail adress? I would appreciate it if someone could also help me
 to
get the guide for the different classes.

Thanks for your help, it's really appreciated.

 Greetings
 Sarah

will be playing 3.5. While I can probably get by asking them about the
rules, it would make playing a priest or mage difficult if I can't have
 access to the spell list.

I'm sorry this isn't precisely an audio games question, but I know lots of

Hello everyone. I am not sure who is still around, that I knew years ago
when I was subscribed to this list, but I hope there are still a few here,
that I know and perhaps some new people I can make friends with. I have
encountered a quite big problem with a Mud I want to play and wonder if
there is anyone here who could perhaps look at it for me and tell me if I
 am
just not configuring something correctly, or if the Mud is just impossible
for me to play, as a blind person? Firstly, let me give you the address
 and
 port of the mud.
 lordsoftherealm.org
 Port 1234
I am using Windows XP, Gmud as my Mud Client and use Gmud every day to
 play
another Mud with no problems at all. The problem I am having with the
 above
Mud is that, although I turn colour off, blank on and prompt off I still
 get
what seems like the time and moves interspersed throughout the text. This
makes it impossible for me to be able to play the game properly, as the
numbers throughout the text make it hard to understand what is being said
and the time it takes to have one sentence read out, takes so long. I
 keep
thinking I am just forgetting a setting, but because this letter is taking
*much* longer than I thought to write, I better finish it and see if any
 of
you can help me with my problem. I must admit, it is a great shame the
 Mud
 list doesn't exist any more.
Okay, thank you all and hope I haven't hurt too many ears by my long
 letter.
 *lol* Take care all.
 Kirstan Mooney.

 Hi Niko,
First, I'd just like to point out that Phil's message was just a joke.
Second, the purpose of my initial email was to find out what the target
audience wants to play. As it happens the target market isn't sighted
teens or young adults, but blind gamers of any age.
Third, you clearly mentioned you are ateen. As such your opinion is
important because it announces to me what teens are interrested in
today, but it doesn't speak for those of us who are in an older age group.
Keep in mind your teen friends might considder me an old fart, because I
am 30 years old anhd grew up playing Packman, Galaxian, Mario Brothers,
Double Dragon, long before all this Grand Theft Audo, Resident Evil, etc
games existed or was even imagined.
Since I am older than you and have different values and ideas about
games should be I don't have any interest in games that deal with gang
warfare, oor committing crimes like selling drugs, raping people, or
 robbing people, etc.
Bottom line I want to have games that has some reasonable values, and I
can't take pleasure in a game where you joina gang and carry out gang
related stuff. There is nothing good or clean about it.
A game like Monkey Business apeals to me for exactly the reason it is
clean entertainment and I don't have to do anything in the game that
goes against my own personal values and beliefs.
Forth, this is clearly my own personal view, but as I get older I have
to wonder what society is teaching our children through tv, radio, and
games. No a gamer playing Grand Theft Audo might not go out and do it,
but it does say something about your conscience. If you can actively do
it in a game then in a ssilent way you are saying doing those things is
 ok.

 Hi rob and all.
IN tm 1 sometimes on the first level, or at any level I collect what
should be all the treasure in that level, but I don't get any more
treasure or go up a level.

 Hi Ian.

treasuremania's actually quite simple once you pick the sounds up. You are
going along in your boat from left to right with clifs at either end. You
can distinguish where the cliffs are by the long, gritty, waves breaking
 on
a beach type sound they make.

the main thing you need to do in the game is collect chests. these make a
very slight creeking sound when your boat is close, but that's actually
slightly hard to hear imho, so just press the R key to use your detector
which will give you a loud beeping sound when it's time to lower your hook
 for a chest.

If your hook hits the chest you'll here a hollo booming sound and can
 start
drawing it back up. the bell like bong sounds means new level, and the
swishing sound means more chests have come onto the playing field.

then, there is fish and whether conditions, in rough whether you might
 hear
a storm and the wave sounds will be bigger, and moving around or staying
 in
one place will be harder. Fish make a variety of small splashing and
 bubling
noises, and you can catch the small ones that buble at you. But when your
lowering your chain for a chest, the fish can tangle it which obviously
 isn't good.

then there are sharks that make the evil snorting sound, don't try to fish
these with your net, and certainly don't jump into the water when you here
 them around.

The only other three sounds you need to know are the arrow, lightning and
bees, which are probably easy to pick up here, but I'll mention them
 anyway
 for completeness sake.

When you here a storm and a smashing type noise, make sure your not close
 or
 you'll get struck by lightning.

A series of wooshing noises panning across your speakers means an arrow,
 so
duck with the left ctrl. and on the insane difficulty, the killer bees
 sound
like, - well your average bee (a pretty evil disguise methinks).

 Anyway, Hth.

Personally, I think the game should stay as it is without a learn game
sounds menue, but then again I didn't myself have difficulty with the
 sounds
in the game, so it's probably just a matter of preference.

 Beware the Grue!

 Dark.
