If anybody is using IE to download the file use Firefox if possible to download it. IE is having a issue with the site. I installed Firefox and was able to download the whole file. Jason, I know you saw my application to be a tester, but I have a question, don't know whether you'll be able to answer it on list though, so if not, appologies. Jason, I never had all of the components, it downloaded the updated direct x for me when it installed. Took a few attempts, but that was due to errors on my part. Also, .NET Framework version 3.5. One of those seems to be causing the problem and I think it's the framework. Thanks for giving us the change to test this out for you, even if the installer is being a pain! Smile. Just out of curiosity, are you going to try and get the game to work with older systems? Or will we have to have at least XP to run it? I know I'm still running on a fairly old system, but I don't have a lot of money to either get myself a new computer or to upgrade this one, so was curious if I'd even be able to test for you if you're taking any more volunteers. Hi Miss Wings, Unfortunately, with the XNA based games you will have to have Windows XP SP2 or better to run them. Microsoft has dropped .Net support for everything earlier than Windows XP SP2 and XNA was designed with the idea that everyone had at least Windows XP SP2, but is actually better suited for Windows Vista and Windows 7. Hi Jason, As a fellow .NET Framework developer myself I can certainly help you figure out the problems hear. However, it would be helpful to know exactly which language and IDE you used when developing your game. If you are using XNA Runtime 2.0 then you should have .NET 3.5 also installed since XNA 2.0 is for the Visual Studio .NET 2008 series of languages. Cheers. [Audyssey] Game Testing
Hi guys, I'm currently developing an audio RPG. I'm having trouble finding out which prerequisites I need to include with the game. So far, the setup checks for Direct X, XNA, and the .NET framework. I believe this is all that's needed to run my XNA game. The application runs locally on the computers I can test it on, but I haven't has as much success deploying it to testers. So, if you're so inclined, would you mind downloading a test application? The test game goes through the same setup as my game, but it only installs a tiny program. The program opens a window, and speaks a sentence. If you can run this successfully, you should be able to run my game. Please let me know at my forum or on this list if the application runs or has an error. Also, any computer details like .NET version, video card, or operating system would be helpful. Jason, i've gotten the test game to work on my machine. I'ts an HP laptop running an intel seleron RM processor at 1.5 GHZ, with 1 GB of Ram, and the operating system is windows xp home edition with service pack 3 installed, also with the latest direct X. Not sure what the videow card is though, sorry. How can I become a tester for your game if you've turned off registration in the forums? Glad to see it works on a few PCs. I had to disable logins to the forum because it decided to stop working the moment I opened it to the public. I'll likely scrap it and start over. I'll happily add you as a tester. Just give me some time to get everything sorted again. The game unfortunately doesn't run on most PCs and I suspect it's because the installer isn't checking the dependencies properly.
