Reading the documentation for python, there is no indication that key creation can fail without terminating the program, so I'm afraid we have a mystery here, doesn't seem like upstreams bugzilla has this error, so maybe it is created by me somehow. I don't think the new version is likely to fix this issue, but it's new layout (from upstream) and improved detection engine (from me), should at least make it more fun to use on the four working machines and it's available at the same URL as the old one. Still a no-go :-( I put in some dubugging lines (three print-lines), and the result is that the first time the program reaches the following program segment (line 118 ansd 119) everything works (no error). packages.setdefault(packagename,Package(packagename)) packages[packagename].processes.extend(programs[program]) But the second time the program comes here only the first line work and it bails out on the second. -- Dan Johansson, http://www.dmj.nu *** This message is printed on 100% recycled electrons! *** signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part.

Hi, I have just done a PHP-4 to PHP-5 upgrade and as far as I can see everything works as it should - except Squirrelmail. When I try to send a message in Squirrelmail and I Sign or Encrypt the message the following error occurres: Fatal error: Call to undefined function ctype_print() in /var/www/localhost/htdocs/squirrelmail/plugins/gpg/gpg_hook_functions.php on line 842 I have searched the net but have not found anything usefull. Any suggestions? -- Dan Johansson, http://www.dmj.nu *** This message is printed on 100% recycled electrons! *** pgplsOuvZZqBD.pgp Description: PGP signature

(:-( The error does not seem to be Squirrelmail - but the PHP5 ebuild. I created a small php-script like this: ?php echo ctype_print(Dan Johansson); ? If I execute this on the commendline like this php x.php it works, but if I access the file through apache it does not. To further investigate I changed my script to: ?php phpinfo(); ? and behold, in the apache output it says in the Configure Command --disable-ctype and in the commandline output it says ctype functions = enabled I'm now going to look into the ebuild to see why PHP5 builds the cli and apache2 parts differently. -- Dan Johansson, http://www.dmj.nu *** This message is printed on 100% recycled electrons! *** pgptbk7O19ouh.pgp Description: PGP signature

You may have the following line in your /etc/conf.d/rc: RC_PLUG_SERVICES=!net.* This disables automatic starting of network services. You should replace it with something like: RC_PLUG_SERVICES=!net.eth0 !net.wlan0 where you enumerate the network services you *don't* want to start, and of course leave out net.usb0. -- Remy Thanks! [gentoo-user] Strange behaviure during shutdown after baselayout upgrade.
Hi, After upgrading the baselayout I have a strange problem when I shutdown my computer. While shutting down some of the /etc/init.d scripts gets executed in the wrong order - especially net.eth0 and netmount. Now (after the baslayout upgrade) /etc/init.d/net.eth0 stop is called BEFORE /etc/init.d/netmount stop which causes netmount stop to just hang as it has no network connection any more and I have to turn of the computer by hand. How can you prevent it to start in degraded mode? I don't have the raid drivers compiled into the kernel :) I have 3 arrays, 2 of which have more devices on the SATA card than the array can loose. mdadm would warn me by email if it detected any array in degraded mode anyway. I'm not sure what problem you had that meant you could only create a degraded array. If you specify the disk/partition with the data on it you want to keep *first* to mdadm, that data will get replicated to the others. Thanks for your input. This is the output from grub after selecting my gentoo setup. root (hd1,2) Filesystem type is ext2fs partition type 0x83 kernel /kernel-2.6.12-r6 root=/dev/sdb2 acpi=off [Linux-bzImage, setup=0x1200, size=0x165a46] (and here it hangs) I have installed grub to MBR of the first SCSI-disk (sda) and I'm having my grub files on sdb3. Here's my grub.conf file: # By default, boot the first entry. default 0 # By default boot the old SuSE (until Gentoo boots OK) title SuSE kernel (hd0,1)/boot/vmlinuz root=/dev/sda2 acpi=off splash=silent showopts initrd (hd0,1)/boot/initrd # For booting Gentoo 2.6.12-r6 title Gentoo 2.6.12-r6 root (hd1,2) kernel /kernel-2.6.12-r6 root=/dev/sdb2 acpi=off The second SCSI-disk (Gentoo) has the following partitions: /dev/sdb1 swap /dev/sdb2 / /dev/sdb3 /boot /dev/sdb4 LVM The Kernel is compiled without Module support and all necessary drivers are compiled into the kernel. Booting the old SuSE installation works without problems but Gentoo does not. Any suggestions on what could be wrong? Meaning that the SuSE /boot folder is on the SuSE partition? For the Gentoo installation /boot is on it's own partition, for the SuSE /boot is on the / partition. That might be your problem-- since that would mean that you've got possibly two installs of GRUB (one in the SuSE /boot folder and one in the Gentoo /boot partition). So you've got to wonder which one is running. At least I did. Yes there are two installs of GRUB but only the Gentoo one is used. I can see that on the release numbers (Gentoo 0.96, SuSE 0.93) and that the right grub.conf (menu.lst) is shown when I boot (Only the Gentoo one has entries for Gentoo). I also dual-boot SuSE and Gentoo (SuSE is my fallback in case I break Gentoo so badly that I need to use something else to fix it), and what I did (since I 'really' use the Gentoo GRUB, and the Gentoo /boot partition) was to copy the SuSE kernel (and System Map, and config) to my Gentoo /boot folder. Perhaps you need to do that in reverse (copy the compiled kernel and related files to your SuSE /boot folder). I don't think this should be necessary as GRUB do find the file containing the kernel. I've also tried the doscsi boot option as suggested in an other reply but this did not help. -- Dan Johansson, http://www.dmj.nu *** This message is printed on 100% recycled electrons! *** pgpE25HZ7va0c.pgp Description: PGP signature

Isn't (hd1,2) the same device as /dev/sdb2? It looks like your /boot and / are the same here... No, (hd1,2) is /dev/sdb3 (grub start counting from 0). 2. The normal name for the kernel is vmlinuz- You have kernel-... /boot/kernel-2.6.12-r6 is a cp -a from /usr/src/linux/arci/i386/boot/bzImage, and /usr/src/linux is a link to /usr/src/linux-2.6.12-gentoo-r6 So, which partition actually contains /boot? For Gentoo (hd1,2) /dev/sdb3 For SuSE (hd0,1)/boot /dev/sda2/boot How are you switching between grub versions? Important: if you are changing the disk boot order in the BIOS, you need to remember that grub always defines (hd0) as the currently booting drive...regardless of the order of the drives in the system. So you may need to change everything to be (hd0,X). I'm not switching between grub versions, I only use the grub from Gentoo (the SuSE grub is not being used). I've also tried to change the boot order of the disks in BIOS (and changing the (hdx,y) references in grub) with the same result. Can you get to a grub command line, and do a find /kernel-2.6.12-r6? [gentoo-user] [OT] Conrad SATA-II PCI Controller
[OT] Does anybody know if the 4 PORT SATA II RAID PCI-KARTE http://www.conrad.ch/goto.php?artikel=973451 works with (Gentoo-) Linux. On the product description page it only lists Wintendo. And if yes, which kernel driver? -- Dan Johansson, http://www.dmj.nu *** This message is printed on 100% recycled electrons! ***

You can try putting SystemRescueCd (www.sysresccd.org), which is basically gentoo with as-complete-as-possible support for such stuff, to any USB stick and asking if you can check it right in store. lspci -v should list the module, which will be auto-loaded. And if it's not, then you probably out of luck. Thanks for the tipp, the problem is that Conrad does not have any shop close to where I live. I found an other card on the net with support for Linux - so now I'm just waiting for it to arrive. -- Dan Johansson, http://www.dmj.nu *** This message is printed on 100% recycled electrons! ***
[gentoo-user] setxkbmap does not work after upgrading to KDE4
After upgrading to KDE4 the other day my keyboard mapping stopped working. I traced it back to setxkbmap. Manually entering setxkbmap (with extra verbosity) gives the following: $ setxkbmap -model logicd -layout ch -variant de_nodeadkeys -v 10 Setting verbose level to 10 locale is C Warning! Multiple definitions of keyboard model Using command line, ignoring X server Warning!
