[Goanet] World Goa Day, a Goa Sudharop initiative - 2023

2023-08-09 Thread George Pinto
WORLD GOA DAY was founded in 2000 by Goa Sudharop which holds the international
trademark for this special commemoration. See
https://www.goasudharop.net/worldgoannetwork  Since 2000, the event has been
celebrated by the World Goan Network under Goa Sudharop's founding role. This
year, Goa Sudharop in association with the Directorate of Art and Culture, held
an event at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao on August 5 & 6. The grand cultural event
was celebrated by thousands of Goans over the two days. Goa Sudharop had taken
extraordinary measures to promote local artisans, craftsmen, farmers,
handicraftsmen, women entrepreneurs and individual vendors etc. to support,
encourage and preserve the heritage and traditional cultural roots of Goa.

Music, dance, Konkani songs, authentic Goan Kunbi dances, poetry recitals and
drawing competitions etc. were part of the two day event which drew people of
all interests and ages. Kids took a very active part in drawing competition and
poetry recitals. Folk dance and music by the bands pulled the crowd onto the
stage, inviting them into the celebration - the fun and pride of being Goan.
There was also a fashion show of our heritage Kunbi fabric of Goa organized by
International Fashion Designer and Goa Sudharop's volunteer Executive Director
Verma D'Mello. The fashion show involved women and men of all ages - a proud
moment for Goans. Authentic Goan food was available and prepared by many rural
women who are supported by Goa Sudharop, bringing together forgotten recipes of
culturally rich Goa.

Goa Sudharop has many reasons to celebrate this year.  We won two major awards:
1. All India Woman Leaders Forum for empowering the underprivileged.
2. The Goa Star Women's Award for empowering women.

Thank you for your support.

[Goanet] World Goa Day - Jazz Goa

2021-09-13 Thread Roland Francis
An eclectic collection of Goa-themed songs with a jazz flavour by a diverse mix
of artistes for the recent Goa Day. Many I have heard before, some new. All
done with zest and verve.

Colin D’Cruz is to modern day Goa music as Mario Miranda was to cartooning. I
know little about him, hear his product a lot, but from what I view on
cyberspace he showcases worthy Goa talent which might have otherwise gone
unnoticed.

Thanks to Dr.George Pinto for clarifying the origins of WGD. In the early
years of 2000 Dr. Giese had also suggested a Goan Bank. I bet if this idea had
to take off, the so called Rene would have also claimed that it was his baby.
BC
Colin, do not be fooled. History and facts are important and matter.??World Goa
Day was initiated and started by Goa Sudharop. The idea was proposed by
Filomena Giese, co-Founder of Goa Sudharop. Goa Sudharop paid for the initial
set-up (website design, logo, domain, etc,) as one of Goa Sudharop's projects.
I had initially suggested Jan 1 as the date - a new year, a new beginning?for
Goans. The late Jorge Noronha (Portugal) suggested August 20 to coincide with
Konkani being made the official language of Goa (1992). Goa Sudharop heavily
promoted the idea of WGD. Rene was a Goa Sudharop advisor at that time but with
a failure of character Rene brought the?publicity to himself and has never
acknowledged?or corrected the record and promoted WGD as his own, never
contributing a single penny (I hear this is still the case). I personally
drafted many of the publicity emails Rene sent out, including articles for
WGD.? For the record, Goa Sudharop did the initial work to launch?WGD and I pers
onally spent a lot more time than Rene to get WGD off the ground.

Re: [Goanet] World Goa Day 2020

2020-08-10 Thread BT Yahoo Mail
George Pinto did right to tell us how the idea of World Goa Day (WGD)
came about and to remind us that history and facts matter.

So can Rene Baretto set the record straight (if he still lives)?
Goa Sudharop is a charity that has helped deserving children and I
myself have contributed. But sadly it has failed to get the publicity it
deserves.

As for WGD, we never hear about it the whole year and then in August
each year, a few noises are heard from unexpected sources claiming that
the day is still alive.
So is a Committee elected each year? It is not clear where on the globe
the celebrations (if any) are held and what form they may take.

Some years ago, somebody claimed that we have a unique quality called
'Goanness'. It was not properly defined and it died out.

Is it worth pursuing the WGD idea or should it be given a decent burial?
Perhaps George should have the last say.

Eddie

So why has no credit has been given to Goa Sudharop? This is typical of
some Goans who talk a good game about co-operation, unity but take all
the credit. Then they ask why Goans are backward compared to other
communities and Goans cannot move forward in unity,

Re: [Goanet] World Goa Day

2017-08-21 Thread Eugene Correia
I think it was in the early 80s that the a festival of Goan culture was
held at the famous Harbourfront in downtown Toronto. I think it was the
late Ladis da Silva, from Zanzibar and who wrote some books, including the
Americanization of Goans, was was fully or partly responsible for it. I
will stand corrected if anyone with more knowledge about it posts it here.
As for myself, I will try to talk to an oldtimer who came to Toronto in the
70 and who was part of the founding members of GOA.
In 1988, the Harbourfront was again the venue for a cultural fest organized
by the GOA as part of the !st International Goan Convention.
As for Fred's usual questioning, it's good to get facts correctly. At least
for historians and journalists. Even there was controversy over whether
GOA's convention was the "first" as some people pointed out to the
convention held in Paris.
If memory serves me right, the Paris meeting was by pro-Portuguese people
scattered in Europe. It was said that the meeting was attended by those who
hated the Liberation/Aggression of Goa. Don't remember if it was by the
League of Goans (maybe I didn't get the name correct) based in London.
Let me tell Fred that the Alliance had a website but was shut down because
of no money forthcoming to run it. Antonio Mascarenhas, a former executive
member of GOA (maybe even its gen. sec. at one time) was associated with
it, as he has his own Calungure or Candolim association.
In a talk with him many years ago, he said Rene would not do anything but
also dictate. I wish Rene would answer such a charge, and also let us know
if the alliance is still existing.
Why is the GA UK not holding a WGD? I know it is holding the Goan festival,
just as GOA Toronto is holding its Viva Goa.
Fred, this is forum for discussion. I am not here to run down Rene or
anyone else. If you have information on the alliance, please let us know.
Debate, in a way, is stirring the pot, and maybe the truth will come out of
it.
Let me tell Fred that I first met Rene in Goa when he organised a group (I
think) from Uganda. This was perhaps in the late 70s and before I migrated
to Canada. I then met him in London, visiting him at his place of work.
Again I met him for the Goanetters Convention in Toronto.
Rene means well. i was told that he had ceased to be part of GA UK. Now
only Rene or the GA sec. can answer that. I write this because I want facts
to come out and not just "stir the pot".

[Goanet] World Goa Day celebrated in Karachi

2015-08-25 Thread Michael Ali
This article initially  appeared on the 23 August 2015 in The Christian Voice,
Karachi
 WORLD GOA DAY – 14 AUGUST 2015
 ST. ANTHONY’S CHURCH GROUNDS, KARACHI

 By Goretti Ali

On Pakistan’s Anniversary of its Independence, the Goans of Karachi celebrated
World Goa Day in St. Anthony’s Church grounds. The Theme for 2015 was Goa - A
land united by beautiful villages. The Goinkar’s Own Academy (GOA) marked the
event with a Food Festival hosting a variety of Goan dishes. The festivities
began with a short visit from His Excellency, Joseph Coutts, Archbishop of
Karachi. The Festival was declared open by St. Anthony’s Assistant Parish
Priest Fr. Arthur Charles along with Fr. Edward Joseph, the Parish Priest. He
prayed for Pakistan and its people and wished GOA much success for the day. The
proceeds from this event will be used towards the uplift of Mariam School in
Shireen Jinnah Colony. Before the festival began Pakistan’s National Anthem was
sung. The stalls and stall holders were:
- Maria D’Souza manning BRITONA with a variety of delicacies. Chequered cake,
balchao, para, sorpotel, channa doce, etc. - Lovita and Marshall Fernandes from
VAGATOR serving sorpotel and sannas, coconut prawn and okra curry, coconut
water etc. - Elizabeth Pinto manned the ANJUNA Flea Market. - Rose and Sabby
Fernandes with delicacies from CALANGUTE including godshe, vonn, doce, lateri
etc. - Tony Almeida with assorted foods from ANJUNA. - BAGA had sannas,
macaroni with mince, channa chat, chutney, pan rolls, kebabs etc. - Deborah
Santamaria with choris pav, balchao, pickles, prawn patties, fish tarts etc.
from CHINCHINIM. - Kristen Fernandes and friends representing COLVALE with face
painting, mehndi and bangles. - DJ Fabian Bob with music from BENAULIM. A green
and white cake with the crescent and star on it was cut by the Parish Priest
Fr. Edward Joseph and a senior parishioner Dr. Hillary Zuzarte. The event was
patronized by many, dressed in the colours of Pakistan’s flag and the Goan
delicacies savoured by all. Several taking home dishes for the family instead
of cooking for the day. World Goa Day (WGD) is celebrated on the 20 August
every year as it commemorates the anniversary of the inclusion of Konkani in
the 8th Schedule of the Indian Constitution by the Indian Parliament in 1992.
Konkani was recognised as one of the official languages of India being the
mother tongue of Goans. The first World Goa Day was held on 20 August 2000.
This year marks the 16th annual celebrations of WGD. The event is intended as a
day for Goans to focus on, take pride in and celebrate, their culture,
language, traditions, music, cuisine and more wherever they may reside. Its
primary objective is to unite Goans worldwide in a day of common celebration
and a show of solidarity. WGD is marked on or around the 20 August by Goan
Associations internationally. These associations constitute the World Alliance
of Goan Associations which was started in 2000 by Rene Barreto, a third
generation East African Goan, now residing in the UK. Rene says initiating the
World Alliance of Goan Associations was a way to bring Goans together.
Originally six organisations supported the idea. Today there are roughly 40
associations the world over. Tony Colaco is the overall coordinator, Deborah
Santamaria the general secretary and each country’s association has its own
head. The Goinkars Own Academy (GOA) was established in 2001 in Karachi, by
Maurice Coutinho now residing in Canada. GOA joined hands with organisations
the world over to celebrate World Goa Day. Today it is under the leadership of
Deborah Santamaria, the current President. GOA promotes Goan culture with
events that bring the community together socially and spiritually. Viva Goa!!

[Goanet] WORLD GOA DAY 2013 -

2013-08-20 Thread Edward Lopes
*World Goa Day our chance for Goan Pride*
*by Edward Lopes*

World Goa Day is not just a mere remembrance of the inclusion of Konkani in
the 8th Schedule of the Indian Constitution by the Indian Parliament on the
20th of August 1992 as one of the official languages of India. Moreover
this has grown to become a special day for Goans all around the world to
celebrate our culture, tradition and uniqueness. Even though Goa is one of
India's smallest states, today World Goa day is celebrated far and wide
across the globe.

As Goans we need to continue to uphold the pride of our heritage for years
to come and so by taking a day in a year to celebrate Goa we are able to
contribute to our Goan community and show our solidarity to our state in a
special way, whatever it may be. Furthermore, it gives us a moment to
remember our roots, our people, and our culture. Goa rich in music, flora
and fauna and cuisine is loved by so many and should be cherished by its
own natives so that we may always possess and preserve the ethnicity of the
land and the language. Having said this, we must also engage other Goan
natives to do the same. With the beauty of its beaches, places of worship
and architecture, Goa is visited by many and we must give back by taking
pride not just in our language but must also showcase all that we stand for
by organizing a community programme/ event to celebrate.

Much appreciation and heart congratulations to Rene who founded and upheld
World Goa Day as a movement that is acknowledged and celebrated even until
today. Let our hope be to continue to carry on this legacy as his compeer
in standing for Goa and resonating its color, culture and richness.

[Goanet] WORLD GOA DAY - ANCESTRAL GOA 20.8.2012

2012-08-19 Thread renebarreto

Ancestral Goa is conceptualised as a focal point for the preservation of the
inherent “Culture, ethnic traditionalism and the colonial adaptation” that
makes “Goa” a truly  unique state.  “Ancestral Goa” a one of its kind and the
first to evolve in its day,  celebrates World Goa Day, at 4 p.m.

The open-air, lifestyle and life-size Museum plays host to the event entitled
“A Walk  to Remember…”

“Joao Katarina” (Romeo e Julieta) performed by young aspiring actors will
kick off  the event. This will be followed up, by the tale of the creation of
Goa in Konkani. As the visitors move around the village, the village will come
“Alive” with artisans creating  the various arts and crafts that were a part of
the rural social “networking”!

En route to, “Natural Harmony,” - India’s longest laterite sculpture, of Sant
Mirabai,  which entered the third book of records, visitors passing through
the tunnel will see  posters adorning the cavern walls. This exhibition of
Posters are designed by the creative team at, “Art Ads”, Margao and are
illustrated by Karishma Alvares. As an initiative, the “Big Foot Trust,”
aspires to help reduce the growing problem of “Garbage”, by offering  the
public, simple and effective  solutions. These posters highlight a
tongue-in-cheek alternative to  the constant public inaction and endless but
futile grumbling.

A series of “Blitz- Kreig” sustainers of the posters inserted in the
newspapers, as an awareness drive, have encouragingly taken root in positive
action.

Ending their sojourn at the sculpture of Sant Mirabai, the guests will pay
tribute to the sculpture in an unusual manner. The taste buds will then be
treated with delicious Goan eats.

“World Goa Day,” was first celebrated in the year 2000, to commemorate
the recognition  of Konkani as one of the official languages of India. WGD is
intended as a day for Goans worldwide, to focus on and take pride in their
identity, through culture, language, traditions, music, cuisine, etc.  Its
objective was to unite Goans all over the world in a day of common celebration.
WGD
is being promoted globally since 2000 by Rene Barreto, a resident of the UK.
He strongly insists on the need to sustain the legacy of our Goan language,
heritage and culture, for the future generations of Goans. Officially WGD is
celebrated on the 20th of August, but for practical reasons, the occasion is
celebrated on or around this date.

Warm Regards

2012-08-07 Thread renebarreto

Goenkars !!

The highlight of this year's WORLD GOA DAY - Festival : celebrations
is to showcase  a vital part of our cultureOur internationally acclaimed
Food and Goan Wines !!

Hence we have proposed to the Global Goan Associations and organisations
to organise A WORLD GOA DAY - Festival of Goan Cuisine  to coincide
with the  13th Anniversary of  THE WORLD GOA DAY celebrations  from
the   14th to 20th August 2011..

Joe and Odette co founders of Goan Culinary Club will be coordinating the
event in Goa. Details of the WGD - Festival Goan Cuisine will be publicised
very soon.

Goan Food has always been internationally acclaimed because of its unique and
varied tastes, a real fusion between Eastern and Western tastes ready to
satisfy the
palate of people of all ages and walks of life. This tasty blend
of  ingredients spices
and foods originating from right across the globe have  produced great
imaginative
and innovative chefs like Cyrus Todiwalla and others  on cruise liners etc
that have
been of service across the globe. Other well  known Chefs have used  Goa as a
window
for specialised and unique ways of preparing delicate and tasty dishes.  It is
indeed the
quality and variety of Goan food that has helped put Goa on the international
Map.

Many Goans have excelled in the art of cooking and have even written
their experiences
and recipes in well authored Cookery and cultural books.  They will be invited
to showcase
and exhibit their books and perhaps even  demonstrate some of their well
documented dishes.

However ..as we celebrate this glorious festival lets include as many people -
Goans and
non  Goans as possible , people from  all walks of life so that they can share
and appreciate our unique Goan cuisine  and culture!

Let us also celebrate our Goan Wines ( Feni and other local wines ) and those
who produce these
wines - the Goan * renders *- toddy tapers etc !

Global Goan Associations / organisations wishing to participate in this years
WORLD GOA DAY  celebrations should write to us with as  much of details as
possible -  attach Flyers if
possible.

Global Goemkars,

I am proud to have many non Goan friends who care about  our Goa ,
who support and Participate our WORLD GOA DAY celebrations.

One of those Friends is Cyrus Todiwala - Here is his message to Goans world
wide:      rene

                                      MESSAGE
                                      00

WORLD GOA DAY is fast approaching and once again a year has almost gone
by as though magically and so has most of 2012 which has been one fantastic
year for
Britain. We have seen some great developments for securing the future
of Real Goan cuisine in Goa with the Mascarenhas pair Odette and Joe have
set the ball rolling taking into their group the support  of great Goan chefs
and
cooks  such as my past colleague Cruz Urbano Rego,  not to forget that I have
also worked  with Joe and Odette many years ago.

It is time to bring and swing Goan and Portuguese Goan cuisine back onto
the great culinary map of India but more so to Goa itself and to the world
at large
2012 has been an awesome year for us here in London at Cafe Spice Namaste,
From the opening of our new restaurant at the New Hilton near terminal five to
us
having the privilege of cooking for Her Majesty's first official Diamond
Jubilee
luncheon, to now the Olympics coming in this week to the opening of our
 new
Cafe in the Park and onto    World Goa Day    where we hope to have a fabulous
Goan choice on the menu.

May I urge you all to celebrate the great heritage of Goan cuisine and to do
all you
can to promote it as much as is possible. Bring forth some family secrets, get
the
grandmas and grand aunts to teach the youngsters and just bring in the true
feel  of SUSEGADO as my friend Armando always says……it is a truly
misunderstood word.

All the best
have fun all

Hi Rene,

Since the launch of our Goan specials the menu has been a total sell out and I
have decided to continue with it for another month due to it's popularity. So
now it will be in for a full quarter

It is not just the recipes that one needs, there are plenty these days. One
needs to make Goans feel proud of their heritage and culture everywhere
especially in Goa itself.

Begin by forming an Association of caterers in Goa to start with and getting
restaurants to sign up and a code of practice that commits them to being
classical with imagination but sticking to our roots. Thereafter to monitor and
support and to make them buy into not giving in to stupid demands as I have
seen these last few trips.

For example.

Prawn vindaloo or chicken vindaloo or mutton vindaloo just to please the
British tourist
If there is pride there is no deviation and the tourist will learn that and
respect that.

Goans must stand firm and stand tall in their beliefs.

This will have a knock on effect in the domestic world too and young men and
women will resort to cooking good food most particularly in the diaspora.

We should shave cookery classes for young Goans in Goa on the weekend. Not
expensive but good teaching just two things each time but systematically and
effectively. The use of modern technology to create great classical foods is a
must. Time is scarce these days and soon servants will be a thing of the past
so grinding, pureeing, old fashioned steaming etc. Will not always work and it
will rather be a deterrent if the teacher insists on that being the sole
process. Important to show it of course. BUt resort to modern techniques.

Not may cook on Chonnas these days for instance and it has it's own mess to
go with it.

Variations must be taught and the importance of masalas in our cooking and how
they can help in creating fabulous meals.

These are just ideas. But to make a start get the youth aroused. Food is the
best way to evoke culture, pride and a sense of belonging and it needs to be
recaptured before modernisation destroys it totally.

I feel sad that I did not learn as much as I could whilst living in Goa and how
much if it today I would have used.
Those that could have taught me are no more and their secrets have gone with
them as no documentation was created. My very own parses culture is in rapid
decline and my sorrows are with me but no action was taken. I lament but the
faults were all mine.
Older women do not like teaching some of their family secrets, so we have to
cajole and push them to divulge their very deep food secrets then get
professional chefs to give the recipes some substance.

If someone sends me some old recipes slowly. But surely I can rework them in an
easier format for young Goans globally to benefit.

Anyway enough said
All the best
I will continue to do my bit to promote the cuisine and what little I know if
it.
All the best

World Goa Day Picnic
Wednesday, 24 August 2011 17:51
Rain or shine, G.O.A. never miss an opportunity to enjoy life. The World Goa
Day Picnic was very well attended with members of all ages. Lots of delicious
food, beverages and hot tea and snacks. I was happy when a little boy asked me
if I had anything to do with organizing the picnic and when I asked him why, he
said he just loved it. Enough testimonial for me!

Thanks to Pam Albuquerque and Edith Dias for organizing the event and a special
thanks to all who attended and made it such a fun afternoon. The high-light
was when the thunderstorm hit the site. All the picnickers, young and old
huddled under the shelter and Kenny Lopes brought out his guitar. Romeo and
Belinda Remedios entertained with a medley of songs. Thanks to the rain, there
was a feeling of closeness and bonding; full-filling the GOA's hope for our
community.Neighboring picnickers came over to congraulate us on our efforts
to keep the community close, in particular the children.
A special thanks to Artimizia Tellis for her contribution of the photographs
posted on our website.

GOAN COMMUNITY - DAR ES SALAAM - TANZANIA

[Goanet] WORLD GOA DAY 2011, MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA

2011-09-03 Thread Salus Correia
From Alvito Coutinho.

Melbourne Goans were in the forefront when they celebrated the World Goa Day
on Saturday the 20th August. Once again the Goan Association of Australia
produced an invigorating show to the delight of an exuberant crowd of Goans
and guests in support of World Goa Day which has taken off as a global
celebration. And they were not disappointed as the program was devised to
please everyone, the young, the old, and the boisterous to enjoy rich Goan
culture, cuisine and above all Konkani folk songs while they enjoyed the
rest of the evening dancing to the tunes of Coda Mix led by Gladstone.

The turning point came when the celebrity guest, Josefato Vales (who was
specially flown in from Adelaide for the occasion), ably supported by John
Fernandes gave a spectacular performance. He received a rousing reception
and rounds of applause in appreciation. He entertained the crowd with Goan
folk songs with one special song composed by him for 'World Goa Day'. Here
are a few lines of his song, which was well received:

Hooray, hooray, hooray, hooray,

Come join and sing with us on 'World Goa Day'.

World Goa Day mhunn hangasor muzgu vazota,

Melbourne xharant amchem Goem gazota.

Goenchea gorom masaleacho pormoll re eta,

Pordhea fattlean randnicher 'sorpotel' xizota.

Maddam fenni, kazu fenni, ghontt zai disota,

Anvddo passun giulear, tallier jib re nisorta

The crowd spontaneously participated in the song, wanting more of it ..
finally when it did come to an end he received a standing ovation with a
thunderous applause. But the night was not over yet as Silver Platter'
dished out a sumptuous dinner buffet of Sorpotel, roast beef, xacuti to name
a few.

Coda Mix performed brilliantly keeping the crowd on their feet specially the
young ones till the early hours of the morning.

The Association wishes to express thanks to the donors of prizes, namely Dr.
Harry Sewgoolam, Dr. Ian D'Cruz and Ms Salome Rapson.

Hi Rene
Recently I have been filming in Portugal and Goa to trace the Portuguese route
and how much that initial exploration has changed the world.
We will have fifteen of Britains leading chefs for dinner on the 24th of
August giving a feedback on the menu and the food and I will be sharing some
facts about the great Goan culinary traditions.
The documentary will be screened in Cannes on the 5th of September and we need
some good luck to get it picked up by a great broadcaster and them wanting it
to go global.
I can then celebrate Global Goan Cuisine in a Global manner and showcase our
great culture to the world. So we need luck lots of it

Friends

I would encourage Goan's all over the world who love their homeland and loved
their cuisine to re-awaken
the spirit of this great cuisine and re-visit it as often as possible to create
some of India's finest food, well known
at one stage as being creative forward thinking and a cuisine that is made
for one and all.

We in London have always promoted it and go to huge lengths to bring to members
of the public the diversity and
flexibility that true Goan cooking really is and I urge Goan's internationally
to feel proud and do the same.

have fun

2011 seems to be the year which is gunning so quick: so quick that we are
already at that time of the year when Goans get together in Melbourne, to
celebrate being Goan on World Goa Day. This time around, this day is
celebrated by the Goan Association on the 20th of August, at the Springvale
City Hall, Springvale.

Plans are afoot to make this a great day, one that we will all remember till it
comes again next year! A great opportunity to meet other Goans, and to show
off our ‘Goanness’ to our non Goan friends! There will be good music, great
food and ambience, and of course, as usual I will be having a bottle of Caju
Feni to share!!!

Attached is the flyer advertising this great event. Please mark the date on
your diaries, and make a booking for yourselves and your guests. I will be
having a few tickets with me, so you are welcome to give me a call and reserve
your seats before it is too late. Besides me, you are also welcome to call up
other members of the committee listed on the flyer to book your seats. Please
pass this message on to all your friends and Goans on your address books

Looking forward to hearing from you soon: Together we can make this day so
special!!!

Best wishes,

AlvitoCoutinho,
Gen. Secretary,
Goan Association of Australia Inc.
Melbourne, Australia.

WORLD GOA DAY 2010

World Goa Day was celebrated in Melbourne with a class and finesse befitting
the occasion. The Springvale City Hall was once again the venue for the
occasion which was held on Saturday 28th August, and proudly presented
by the Goan Association of Australia Inc. for the first time.

The occasion was graced by the presence of our Chief Guest the Indian Vice
Consul, Mr. Rakesh V. Kawra, and his wife Mona. They were warmly welcomed
by a record attendance of 400 plus guests. To the surprise of all we had the
pleasure of the presence of the Chief Commissioner of Police, Mr. Simon
Overland. He commended the President, Raul Fernandes for the interest the
Association had taken in regards to the Youth of the Community and was
extremely impressed by what was being done. He expressed his love for Goan
food and for the lovely time he had.

The entertainment featured a live band ‘CODA MIX’ and McBers’DJ - disco music.
This kept the youth and the ‘young at heart’ continuously dancing on the
floor.

The popular beat of the music was contagious because it brought everybody on to
the floor ‘thrashing’ about from end to end and gyrating to every move. This
Goan twist was followed by a sumptuous dinner, catering to the delights of Goan
cuisine and also noticeably appreciated by the many non Goan guests who
attended the celebration.

The President, Raul Fernandes in a short speech emphasized the significance of
World Goa Day, to Goans, when he said, quote:

“Goa symbolizes a lot of things to a lot of people - to some it is the unique
culture developed over centuries of Portuguese rule; to others it is the
Konkani language which is now recognised as an official language in the
Indian constitution; and to others it is the exquisite Goan dishes and the
beautiful beaches that have attracted tourists from around the world……
…but for whatever reasons we may love Goa there is one common
thread that binds all Goans……it is our Motherland and we love Goa.
By the same token we accept Australia as our adopted country and respect
Australian culture and values and we have successfully integrated and
assimilated with our Aussie brothers and sisters.”

The occasion progressed as a delightful audience, whose insatiable appetite for
more music, never diminished or subsided. The MC interrupted the occasion to
thank the donors Dr. Harry and Lorna Sewgoolam and Dr.Ian and Maria D’Cruz
for their kind donations and to announce the winners of the raffle for half a
dozen expensive prizes that were on display This brought the enthusiastic
crowd to a stand still. As the winners were called out they received a
 rapturous ovation.

The evening ended in the early hours of the morning, with pleasant memories of
an eventful World Goa Day.

[Goanet] WORLD GOA DAY AND BONDERAM FESTIVAL

2010-08-26 Thread Maurice and Clarina Coutinho

WORLD GOA DAY DAY BONDERAM FESTIVAL 2010

A decade has elapsed since the inception of the movement for the
solidarity of world goans initiated in the year 2000 by Mr. Rene
Barreto, the coordinator of goans world over.

The response by goans to the call by Rene to show their love for their
mother tongue, Konkani, which was accepted by the government of India as
a state language, by celebrating August 20 as World Goa Day each year,
was overwhelming and spontaneous. Goan associations throughout the world
wasted no time in showing their interest in this worthy and challenging
objective.

Since then Goa Day has been celebrated in every nook and corner in all
the continents where goans are located and the movement continues to
gallop at a rapid pace and in the ensuing years promises to envelop many
of the unchartered areas. This year Rene requested that the ladainha be
included as the main theme to commemorate the completion of a glorious
decade of solidarity between goans everywhere. The Divar Association of
Toronto has celebrated this day each year in August together with the
Bonderam Festival. This year being the decade year they decided to
celebrate in a grand way at the Sapphire Banquet and Conference Centre,
959, Derry Road, Mississauga on 22 August. This function proved to be a
tremendous success in every way and was attended by a huge gathering of
divarkars including a dozen who were visiting Toronto. As usual many of
our well wishers and friends also joined us and enthusiastically lent
their most welcome support. The demand for invites was beyond
expectation but because of limited capacity of the hall we were
constrained to refuse the late comers. Many of the the attendees
expressed their feelings to me and I quote the food was good, the
music was good, the lighting was good, the venue was good, the guests
were good and the show was organized well.

The program began with the singing of the Litany in latin, followed by
the Salve Rainha in portuguese in honor of Our Lady of Fatima who paid a
special visit to celebrate the occasion, thanks to Mr. Anthony Pereira.
Then we sang the oracao of St. Francis Xavier in konkani for the patron
saint of Goa. Then, after a brief speech by the president welcoming the
attendees, the merrymaking began with Richard Coutinho of DJ-Symphony
providing excellent music to suit the occasion and exhibiting a dazzling
combination of multi-colored lights. The attendees were thrilled and
danced their heart out until the announcement of dinner. The sumptuous
meal consisted of yellow pilaf, butter chicken curry, sorpotel, goa
style prawn curry, spinach and paneer, dal makhani, green salad, raita
and nans. Gulab jamuns were served for dessert. We express our thanks to
Clarina Coutinho who was largely responsible for the preparation of
sorpotel and the prawn curry which gave a goan flavor to the meal.

The parade of the sixteen flags of the vaddos (wards) of the island of
Divar carried by prominent divarkars began soon after. The grand march
moved around the hall to the accompaniment of march, polka and goan
masala music. After circling around four times the flag bearers gathered
in the centre of the hall for photographs. At this juncture several of
the attendees in the hall could not restrain themselves any longer and
joined in the parade. As the crescendo of music accelerated the
spectacle of dancing and merrymaking crossed new boundaries and was a
treat to watch.

During the course of the evening the song composed by Mr. Basilio Magno
‘proud to be a goan’ was played and at popular request of the guests,
mandos and dulpods were sung by the them during the dinner.

It was indeed a very successful and enjoyable evening and all had a very
good time. A special word of thanks to our secretary Juliet Diamante
(nee Pinto) for her tremendous effort in the printing of the invites and
controlling the arrival and reception of the guests. I must also express
my appreciation to Suzanne DeSa for her very much appreciated assistance
in ensuring the attendance of over 30 of her friends. Last but not the
least, I cannot adequately express my thanks for the performance of my
son Richard who excelled beyond expectations and steered the function so
very well with the assistance of Max Pinto.

At the conclusion of the function the president and his wife thanked the
attendees for their participation and fond farewells were exchanged with
the promise to meet again next year.

[Goanet] World Goa Day

2010-08-22 Thread Arwin Mesquita
I commend the efforts of all who were instrumental in Celebrating Goa Day
this year; particularly in Goa.

Mr. Rene Barreto in particular needs to be complimented for pioneering and
pursuing the same for such a long time, from the Global/Overseas Platform.

I believe that if anything good has to happen for Goa and Goans, then some
important things are:

(1) Emotional bonding/integration of Goans (local overseas) to our prized
Goan Identity

(2) Changing the Way Goans think and last but surely not the least

(3) Bringing back our pride in being Goan and overall hope in Goa; that we
can make Goa the way we really want to be for Goans and a shining example to
the Indian World Community

Celebration of Goa Day and all of its experience has certainly helped with
the above points; with the success it has achieved so far, I hope it
continues to the next level towards preserving Goan Identity in Goa.

Emotional Integration of Goans Necessary: Simon D?Souza
http://www.daijiworld.com/news/news_disp.asp?n_id=83798n_tit=Emotional+Integration+of+Goans+Necessary%3A+Simon+D%92Souza

Saturday, August 21,
2010 1:09:25 PM (IST)

Vasco, Aug 21: Falling in line with over 60 world wide organizations of the
Community of Goans, Goa Day was observed in Vasco expressing bonds of
unity and resolving to rededicate for collective growth and progress.

Speaking on the occasion, Former Deputy Speaker of Goa Legislative Assembly
Simon D?Souza, who presided, said that he was emotionally moved at the
laudable
work undertaken by Rene Barreto who took the lead in constituting the
organization a decade ago and brought about integration of hearts.

Emotional integration of Goans is necessary for our happy growth, he said,
?It
is necessary that we rediscover ourselves and adhere to our language and
culture to enjoy position of pride in our country and the world?, said
D?Souza. He also called upon all Goans not to forget their roots. He
reminded that ?Goa Day? this

year was also ?Sadhbhavana Din? and said that Goans have made commendable
contribution to a harmonious living and he felt extremely proud of it. It
was
incidentally the day that brought inclusion of Konkani language in the 8th
Schedule of the Constitution and we all are indebted to late Rajiv Gandhi?s
contribution in this regard, he said. Our youth should understand its
significance and carry forward the work of the Konkani luminaries, he added.

Noted Konkani poet Yusuf A Sheikh, who was the Chief Guest, said that Goa,
as he saw in yester years was a place of roaring sea and soaring hopes.
Hopes
and aspirations of the community of Goans did not seem to have materialized
as
Goans are seen to be submerged under developmental projects which, to them,
are not meaningful. He attributed this to the fast degeneration of the
identity
factor. ?Happiness of Goans should be the prime concern of the
authorities.
If the Goans in Goa are unhappy, the world community of Goans will surely
be worried and abstain from investing in Goa and making valuable
contribution
to our contentment?, he said. ?With Konkani language as its base, area of
art
and culture should bloom and that would always keep us emotionally
integrated,
he added. Sheikh also commended the task undertaken by Rene Barreto and
referred to him as a world leader representing Goa in the global village
of
the
computer age. He also referred to the significant contribution being made
by
the NRI cell of the Goa government to reunite global Goans.

Anil R Chodankar, general secretary of the Senior Citizens Forum who was the

Guest of Honour said that he was also equally touched at the fact that
global
Goans are meeting to observe Goa Day. What concerns Goans today is identity
crisis and the unique features of our identity are needed to be preserved at
all
cost, he said.

Linton Barreto, President of the Mormugao Communidade and the Convener of
the
programme presented the song from the CD ?Proud to be Goan? composed by
Basilo
Magno settled in Spain. Attractively adaptated to the Goan music by Emiliano
D?Cruz, the song is sung by Lulu Fortes.

Ex Councillor of Mormugao Municipal Council, John Rodrigues who attended as
Guest of Honour also expressed his sentiments. Clerencio Furtado, president
of
the Konkan Kala Vistar Kendra and the co-convener proposed the vote of
thanks.

[Goanet] World Goa Day: My first Konkani video clip on the net on this day..

2010-08-20 Thread JoeGoaUk
Happy world Goa Day

On this day, I uploaded my first Video Clip on the net.
Probably, JoeGoaUk is the first to upload/promote Konkani Video on  the net.
If you find any clip before Aug.2006, please let us also know.

On Aug. 25. there was another clip on Goanet anniversary - see archive

Some of those uploaded Aug-Sept-Oct. Nov. have been re-uploaded with improved
versions
There are some with no sound at all that's because I was
a novice at that time.

Note: My work is not like 'cut and drop or cut and paste'
like many do taking straight from the VCDs.

I have allmost all the VCDs in my collection but I never misused them.
I don't even remember lending a copy to anyone ever.
Over 320 VCDs yet I must be having at least100 sealed/unopened.
My main intention is to promote them as and when they
are out.

It may take you just 3 minutes to watch my clip but to make
it or to put it there it takes me upto 4-8 hours despite
making use of expensive softwares upgraded every year.
May be I am still learning or perhaps I am a
'too old dog to learn new tricks'
e.g. to make a 3 minute clip from 40 minute video footage,
editing, titles etc etc takes time.
I have to give other info too such as when/Where I
captured it, who organised it, identity of the actor/singer
etc etc. Often I have to make calls to get all this info.
And I used Payphone for this service.

I have no problem or compalaints so far from the tiatrists
or others except two from the band  'Purple Rain'.
One from their copyright owner and the other from the
band itself which was in reply to my recent query
on their website.
(This was about the band clip taken during the carnival time 2009
annual prgrame organised by Goa Tourism/CCP at Panjim Market)

The first complainant reported here earlier was due to some misunderstandings..
later on withdrawn.

Dear Rene,

I would like to wish Goans around the world over a memorable Goencho Dis
(World Goa Day). We, the members of the Quebec Goan Association salute
you for your efforts to unite the community, keeping and celebrating Goan
heritage.

The Quebec Goan Association celebrated the WGD on August 15, 2010 with a

[Goanet] WORLD GOA DAY - our TENTH anniversary 20.8 .2010 - Goa’s nightingale to sing in the rai n

2010-08-16 Thread goanint

Goa’s nightingale to sing in the rain

Published on: August 16, 2010 - 23:49
More in:* iWATCH

Unforgettable Konkani melodies of Goan maestro, Chris Perry including ‘Pisso’,
‘Bebdo’, ‘Red Rose’, ‘Tuzo mog’ and ‘Noxibak Rodta’ will reverberate in the
Goan
heritage precincts at Campal during the evening of August 20, with the Goan
nightingale, Lorna herself performing in the capital city after very long time.

As a part of the celebration of Goan essence, in commemoration of the World Goa
Day, the unique event that will open with the award-winning tiatr, ‘Tthikaan’
by
Christopher will also include a fiesta of Goan crafts and a traditional,
sumptuous Goan food display.

Jointly organised by Trancemedia/ Heritage Jazz, Goa Handicrafts Rural and
Small
Scale Industries Development Corporation and the Tiatr Academy of Goa the event
will be open to the general public.

“We have taken care to provide a cover for the event anticipating rains,” said
Mr Armando Gonsalves of Trancemedia/Heritage Jazz, adding that a unique feature
of the event will be free distribution of specially designed ‘Indian Tricolour’
umbrellas to the first 100 people to arrive at the event. “We would also be
auctioning some of such umbrellas autographed by celebrities. The funds thus
collected will be used for the ‘privileged’ children,” he stated, pointing out
that some of these children would be singing a couple of songs with Lorna.

“In addition, all along the Gonsalves Mansion, at the Campal heritage precinct,
there will be exhibition of artworks, photographs, and crafts of Goa’s local
artisans,” Mr Gonsalves noted. “As regards Lorna,” he said, “She will perform
with a 7-member orchestra, including brass ensemble comprising of trumpet,
trombone and saxophone, and a separate electronic instrument section.”
The MD of GHRSSIDC, Mr Nikhil Desai, speaking on the occasion said that the
lovers of Goan music and tiatr would also get an opportunity to witness the
Goan
crafts at the event.

The president of the TAG, Mr Tomazinho Cardozo expressed satisfaction that the
tiatr is now being taken out of the theatres and finding a place along with
popular musical events in the heritage precincts. “After all, tiatr is a part
of
Goan heritage and this about a great fusion, with the possibility of such
initiatives happening across Goa in the future,” he added.

The organisers maintained that August 20, 2010 marks the 10th anniversary of
the
World Goa Day, and the worldwide community of Goans is supporting the event,
which is evident from the interest being shown in it, across the globe via
Internet.

WORLD GOA DAY - 10th Anniversary 20..8.2010

O
OO

To Goans all around the world,

Many Goan Associations and groups of Goans around the world have already
hosted events to celebrate this special day, ‘World GOA Day’. A day that
reminds us of our proud heritage - one that is worth preserving for future
generations of Goans. The next generation is hungry for information about
their past, where they came from, what’s in their DNA. Well, lets not waist
this important chance to share this day with them.

I encourage every Association around the world to take our celebrations one
step further. As President of the Goan Overseas Association in Toronto we
decided to make strategic changes to our annual calendar to ensure we focused
on culture and the next generation. One of our primary goals was to create an
opportunity for the next generation to learn about their culture and celebrate
it year round.

To us the solution was simple – establish specific portfolios that focused on
the youth and family. Once we did this, we created specific portfolios that
focused on Goan dance, language and cooking lessons. This was our way to help
preserve our culture as most of the “next generation’ of Goans within our
Association are now born in Canada – hungry for knowledge about GOA and their
culture.

I share this with you mainly for you to understand our thinking that we now
designate many events throughout the year as our ‘events’ to celebrate World
Goa Day. We want this to be part of our daily life. When we migrated to
Canada, we brought a part of GOA with us and we plan to share that with
future generations.

A Message for World Goa Day

  A Message from Spain

We are celebrating this year the 10th anniversary of the World
Goa Day. To come so far is a great achievement of Rene Barreto
and his collaborators; they are to be congratulated.

I had a small part in its organisation in composing the theme
song: Proud to be a Goan. The celebration has caught up in
more countries, which is encouraging.

I appeal for world wide Goan unity and for more volunteers
to work for the global Goan community. After 10 years of
hard work at the helm of the World Goa Day Rene wishes to take
a break. I hope someone younger will take over the reins and
continue the good work he began.

[Goanet] World Goa Day held in Qatar on 19th November 2009. Simon D'Silva nhm...@qatar.net.qa

2009-11-22 Thread Goanet Reformat
World Goa Day held in Qatar on 19th November 2009.

World Goa Day held in Qatar
Goan artisans contributed to Brazilian architecture says Brazilian
Ambassador to Qatar HE Anuar Nahes.

President Simon D’Silva, Chief Guest Alfred Sequeira and Brazilian
Ambassador Anuar Nahes.

DOHA: Goa and Brazil share a lot of similarities dating back to the
Portuguese colonial rule, of language, culture, art and football, said
Brazilian Ambassador to Qatar HE Anuar Nahes. He was speaking at the
World Goa Day function organized by Goan Welfare Association in Doha,
on Thursday night.

World Goa Day is celebrated by Goan associations based in different
countries to commemorate the inclusion of Konkani language in the
Eight Schedule of the Indian constitution.

Nahes also highlighted yet another little known artistic link – the
role of Goan artisans and craftsman in Brazilian architecture and the
impact they have left on the five-time world cup football winning
country.

If the common links of language, music and football came through the
long colonial Portuguese rule, the artisans from Goa flourished many
decades back in Brazil, thanks to the sea route. The Goans braved the
choppy sea waters to land in the distant land, taking the migratory
link from Brazil to Africa, to finally land in the South American
country.

“Goan artisans were hired to build churches and other important
monuments as they were known in Brazil for their exceptional
craftsmanship and they have left a big impact on the architectural
scene back home. The masterly craftsman from Goa left their footprints
on Brazilian soil, which is evident today,” said the Brazilian, who
was a special invitee for the function.

He was delighted that Goans have been able to pick the best from both
Indian and Portuguese, art and cultural scene and complimented them
for maintaining the rich traditions and passing them to the new
generations.

“Goa and Brazil have many things in common. The people are friendly,
love their music and football. Tourism flourishes in both, on account
of the beautiful beaches, as both are blessed with stunning
landscapes. Goan music has a clear and definite Latin flavor. The Goan
dance performance today at the World Goa Day was stunning. I was
impressed that the Goans have been able to maintain and pass on the
rich cultural and musical traditions from one generation to another. I
felt I was in Brazil or in Portugal. Goa, a former Portuguese colony
was ruled by the Portuguese till December 1961. The smallest state in
India, it is visited annually by some four million foreign and Indian
tourists. One of the tourist attraction besides the beaches, temples,
mosques and churches is the annual Carnival celebration held in Goa
coinciding with the world-famous Rio de Janeiro festival.

He was not the only Brazilian attending the World Goa Day function,
Dr.Renira Gambarato, Assistant Professor at the VCUQ was another one
who was impressed by the impressive show. “The dance performance
impressed me and the musical notes had Latin written all over it. It
was an opportunity for me to know amore about Goa,” said Renira.

Besides the Brazilian duo, Indians from other parts of India who
attended the function sampled more of the Goan culture. The Goan
dancers performed Corridin dance, and sung Mando’s and Dekni’s much
to the delight of the appreciative crowd. The Chief Guest for the
evening, Alfred Sequeira, a Mangalorean businessman based in Qatar,
said Goans and Mangaloreans shared many common links and one of them
was the Konkani language, he gave a clarion call to all those present
to maintain and promote the language.

“We as custodians and Brand Ambassadors of the language should ensure
that we speak and try to teach our children the language and pass on
the rich cultural traditions which the Konkan region share to further
generations,” said Alfred.

President of Goan Welfare Association (GWA) Qatar, Simon D’Silva in
his presidential address disclosed that GWA has enough study material
for those trying to learn Konkani or improve upon their language
skills.

“We have brought in books from Thomas Stephens Konknni Kendr and also
tied up with Goa Konkani Akademi. Both the institutions have assured
to help us in promoting Konkani among the community in Qatar,” said
Simon.

Simon called upon Goans to promote the Konkani language more
aggressively urging guests and members of the community to make a head
start. I urge the GWA members; let's make a start by teaching our
children the language. Teaching and imparting training in Konkani
language may not help our children to get jobs, but it will not make
us poor, but will enrich our future generations with a treasure trove
of our language, added Simon.

On the occasion, an easy-to-learn Konkani language familiarization
book written by Mathew Almeida and published by Thomas Stephens
Konknni Kendr was unveiled at the hands of the Brazilian Ambassador
and Alfred.

Goanet
It is indeed inspiring and enlightening to observe the various Goan
Associations throughout the world who took pride in celebrating World Goa
Day.These impressive demonstrations of Goans' love for their mother country are
so gratifying that it fills my heart with joy.

One cannot but wonder how this small state in India, Indeed the smallest state
in the union, can produce such a talented and intelligent people who excel in
every field of human endeavour and have contributed so much to the evolution of
humanity and prosperity in the world.

With this in mind, I was wondering whether it would be at all possible to
coordinate an effort of tabulating the achievements of our Goan community in
the from of a sort of history of the community covering all the achievements of
the sons and daughters throught the world of this truly exceptional peopleTHE
GOANS. With the advent of Globalisation, Goans will soon be a race doomed for
extinction in the Global sea of human evolution.

I know that this will be a mammoth task which will require many months if not
years of research and coordination but I throw the challenge out to the
community in the hope that we set the ball in motion to this end.

[Goanet] WORLD GOA DAY -TORONTO

2009-09-21 Thread rene barreto

Friends of Goa !

The idea of WORLD GOA DAY would have died a natural death had it not been for
the Internet collaboration of many Goan Organizations /Associations and
individuals.

The Goan Associations fell in line with a call made in the year 2000, and
year by year their number
has grown abundantly.

I thank them all for all their support they have extended to make this Global
Goan event such a great
success.

TOGETHER we are building a better GOAN WORLD :

Here below is a report from GOA Toronto , well done Goans of Toronto.

rene barreto
WORLD GOA DAY -
WORLD ALLIANCE OF GOAN ASSOCIATIONS.
Goanworld: http://worldgoan.blogspot.com/

0

The WGD Toronto report :

World Goa Day Picnic/International Fundraiser 2009
http://worldgoaday2009.blogspot.com/2009/07/world-goa-day-toronto.html

The Goan Overseas Association Toronto celebrated World Goa Day on theWaterfront
at Coronation Park in Oakville on August 15th,2009. We continued with a “pot
luck” picnic format and introduced our International Charitable component at
this event.

The newly created “Charitable Events” portfolio has been set up with certain
criteria and goals. The picnic was the first event for this portfolio. This
being a WORLD celebration, funds raised at this event will be used for an
‘International’ cause pre-approved by
the Executive Committee.

Some of you may have heard of the struggles Kennedy D’Souza of Kenya faced.
Kennedy, 30 years of age, had to undergo expensive treatment in Mumbai to
shrink a tumor in his head. Sadly, Kennedy lost his battle and leaves behind a
wife and infant child. Kennedy’s widow required assistance with expensive
hospital bills as well as funeral expenses.

The committee under the Charitable Events portfolio hosted the WGD/Charity
picnic with a dual purpose in mind - celebrating World Goa Day with Goans
around the globe and attempting to assist the D’Souza family. While we would
have liked to have seen a larger number of members/guest attend the WGD picnic;
we realize there were a few other events that prevented some from attending.
We express our appreciation to those who attended and are grateful to those who
could not attend but supported by sending donations towards our cause. Next
year's event will be celebrated closer to the actual WGD date of August 20th.

The day began early, with DJ Fatz playing tunes from the arrival time of
volunteers who came out to assist us with our set up to the end of the picnic
where he entertained out guests (non-stop) for the entire day! Our sincere
appreciation to DJ Fatz for assisting us with our fundraiser by donating his
services to the G.O.A. As usual Fatz, you were fabulous!

There were fun filled activities for all the children - including a splash pad
on site. Linda D’Sa managed the children’s activities very capably!
Activities included tug of war, balloon toss, treasure hunt and a very
interesting ‘eat the mini donut’ game for the teens! Soccer games were
coordinated for the youth and any adult that had the spirit of a youth! Thank
you to Jude Furtado for coordinating this for us. There were card games for
those that wanted to relax by the water and play a hand or two coordinated by
Pauline Coutinho and our thanks to her. There was plenty of mixing and
mingling including crowd-pleasing Tombola games….not forgetting the every
popular tea and desserts. Thanks to HemaPereira who ensured the tea was ready
(on time) for our Tombola games! Our gratitude goes out to Joana Nunes for
looking after all aspects of our Pot Luck luncheon. You did an amazing job
Joana! Special thanks go out to Mrs. Goes for donating
the meat for the Sausage on a Bun and thanks to Joana/Abel Nunes for the
donation of the buns and the coffee! We cannot forget to show our appreciation
to Audrey DaCosta who ensured the sausage meat was heated (just right) and for
putting together the buns for our guests. All funds raised from the sale of
this went towards our charity.

We also had a charitable raffle on the day. Our gratitude to Yvonne Rodrigues
who coordinated the raffle You did an amazing job! The youth put together a
Charity Bake Sale on site raising $105.00! Rosie Barreto, thanks for coming up
with the idea and ensuring things ran smoothly.

Finally, hats off to the organizing committee for their dedication to the
event. You are an amazing team! Audrey Almeida, Abel/Joana Nunes, Linda D’Sa,
OlavioDaCosta, Rosie Barreto, Faye Aguiar, HemaPereira, Yvonne Rodrigues,
Antonio Mascarenhas and Greta Dias.

On behalf of the Goan Overseas Association and the organizing committee of
World Goa Day, it is our hope that all those who attended had an enjoyable
time. The venue, date, and format for next year are currently under review.
We are open to your feedback/suggestions.

Director,
