[HCDX] Radio Cairo on 9887,5 kHz

[Wojtek Zaremba]

Radio Cairo is now on 9887,5 kHz with very strong signal but I can't 
even work out the language of the broadcast. I guess that a female is 
speaking, that's it...

Yes at 19z left Abu Zabaal 15285 kHz, moved to 15290 kHz in West Africa 
azimut to zones 46,47,52,
but tiny signal though like exciter string seen in western Europe and at 
KiwiSDR unit in Brazil too.


Adjacent RFI 15300 kHz much, much stronger signal...

When checked end of transmission, 20.28:30 TX OFF, string disappeared.

Nothing on air today Saturday on 9570 nor 9605 kHz.

NOTHING observed yet on v9710 kHz Portuguese scheduled towards Brazil.


GREECE  but heard lovely Greek folk music, on both
9935.011 S=9+35dB at 2240 UT, female folk music singer, and

9420.002 kHz S=9+45dB or -27dBm.


EXCELLENT SW signals reached central Europe tonight,
either from Pacific, East Asia, Udorn Thani,
Cairo, Emirler and Cuba 11760 too !!!

On.  This the french service that should be on 9895kHz but isn’t


And the Audio is utter distorted trash. GARBAGE even by Radio Cairo’s
standards and that says a lot.


Radio Cairo could bung up a one car funeral without much effort

I think there may have been a time in the eighties or seventies when they had 
their crap together... likely with more American involvement and technical 
expertise. The U.S. over the decades has pour billions in aid into Egypt - (30B 
between 1979 and 2003) and here in the 21st Century, little to show for it - 
supremely crumbling infrastructure - a generally dysfunctional and basket case 
society with a repressive regime in power.

Their SW service may sound like heck... but at least they have one, eh?

Like this would be any surprise to anyone? Anyone whos been Dxing knows
what a waste they are.

Today was a GOOD day, quality wise for Radio Cairo's English Service on
Shortwave at 9800khz but it still sounded like utter garbage.

This worthless broadcast has been going on for DECADES. Usually transmitter
modulation is like 10 percent and audio quality is OK to GOOD or
transmitter modulation is pretty decent at 70-80 percent but audio quality
is over modulated and distorted.

The fact the music is "listenable-ish" and you can somewhat understand the
speech make it a GOOD DAY in the book of Radio Cairo broadcasting
standards, but still pure garbage by any normal broadcasters standards

This could be a GOOD station, they often put a GIANT signal into North
America but the audio quality fall incredibly far short of anything
acceptable and enjoyable

Some of you may have seen my posts about Radio Cairo's english service in
the last week or so.

I heard them on August 23rd at 2030UTc on 9895khz. Modulation was still
pretty low, around 30-35 percent but audio quality was fairly good.

Well, on August 25th, I'd heard Radio Cairo English at 2230UTC on 9800kHz
and regarded that as the best I'd ever heard Cairo in English. audio
quality was pretty good, modulation still a bit low, around 40-45 percent
but programming was overall pretty understandable.

Well, hold onto your hats because Cairo gets even better, sorta kinda
maybe. On August 27, I once heard the english service on 9800kHz. The usual
hum was there but this time they were modulating about 60-70 percent
however the audio source material sounded like it was recorded way too
hot however this was still pretty understandable. Voice was a bit
distorted, but Music was ok.

I am not hopeful this quality will last and get better because over two

Holy moly, I think we are in the second apocalypse or something.  For the
second day in less then a week, Radio Cairo in English has decent
modulation and decent audio quality .. and this time english is on the
right frequency of 9800khz, instead of 9895khz where it was the other day
instead of the French that should've been there

For those who aren't aware Radio Cairo is notorious for the last decade or
two to have a huge signal but modulation down in the dumps, maybe 10-20
percent if you're lucky and audio quality that sounds like a dog turd
microwaved till it's crispy and shoved through a paper towel tube.

Radio Cairo goofed yesterday. Ther 9895khz/2000UTC broadcast is supposed to
be French, but it was English... and modulation was OK and audio quality
was distorted but "fair"..best I've heard from them in just about ever.

They almost sound better then Radio Havana Cuba this time around.. when the
usual standard is to sound way worse then RHC...I love to describe Radio
Havana Cuba as a muddy, distorted under modulated crispy dog turd warmed up
in the microwave and shoved through a paper towel tube. Think about that,
imagine it, then listen to RHC.. and tell me i'm wrong.

at 1900 with Arabic programming. Plenty of dialog w/om also distinct Egyptian 
music, YL vocals & instrumentals. Recognizable muffled audio but pretty good 
for them. Signal is only moderate S6 with plenty of fades and static. Very much 
up and down but, as I said, pretty good for them. Time pips at bottom of hour 
w/ Radio Cairo anthem

9965 - R.Cairo, Abis,Egypt   2312  May 3,2016
 - Tune in to Arab YL vocals.Time pips @ 2315 followed by YL w/ ID for Radio 
Cairo North American service, fanfare then into English news. Ended news with 
Egyptian weather then into news analysis program featuring Syrian conflict and 
attempts at ceasefire . This is one of the best signals I have heard from Cairo 
in quite awhile. Audio was clear, signal was strong, S9+20 , and steady. 
Interference was minimal. There was a very noticeable constant hum on the 
signal which although slightly annoying did not cause any serious degradation 
to the audio.

A Rádio Cairo anunciou que irá mudar a frequência de sua transmissão em
português para o Brasil de 9360 kHz para 9390 kHz a partir de 24/10/2009. A
gravação com esse anuncio encontra-se em meu blog
http://www.ipernity.com/doc/75006 . O horário deve permanecer o mesmo, pois
nada ouvi sobre a mudança do horário, espero que com essa nova frequência a
recepção fique boa e possamos usufruir dos excelentes programas dessa
emissora.
