I had buried to the old spec of two feet years ago.

I always used plastic pipe/conduit.

The wall mount plates I bought took CAT5e wire as punch-down, no issues.

The work is digging the trench. There is nothing to putting the cable
in a straight piece of PVC electrical conduit with two sweeps. If you
want to go cheap use exterior cat 5e and don't bother with junction
boxes onces you come out of the ground. Just bring the PVC up at

go to radio shack and buy a inline connector. Then put normal jacks
on the ends of the CAT5e and plug them together. Wouldn't be a bad
idea to do this in a accessible junction box.

My thoughts are a low voltage box on the outside wall but surely I
can not just put jack there. Also thought of just poking thru and
putting the jack on the inside. Or maybe just leave enough coiled

If you are making the connection outside (best inside a box), while gold
does not corrode, it will oxidize. Best to use the old trick from
dial-up days, put a dab of vasoline in the connector. It'll essentially
seal it and lock out oxidation. Mind you, it is a bit messy. ;-)

You don't you can put an end on it (the RJ45 tip) and then go from there.

Better to put a receptacle on it and patch from there if I understand

I did that once with a client; they trenched, we ran 4 different lines
thru a PVC pipe (redundancy - or ease to fish). Don't just drop the

My Question is about WHY I now have 2 taskbars?
Is this normal?

I have a tashbar that I can use. But I have another, locked behind
the visual taskbar,
that I can not deal with. WinXP does not seen to offer much help.

I am not a WinXP fanboy. I do not care for XP a whole bunch!
(I do know that I will have to live with it in the end.)

Can I REMOVE what appears to be a 2d taskbar?

WinXP SP3, (KBKB936929), v.20080414.031525.

WTF did I miss???

Best,
Dunccan

John,
Yes. This is what I do see; two tops. OK, I'll try the lock and/or
try to revert to Classic view mode (though I have not found how to do this
yet - or thought I had already done this!). Thanks,
Best,
Duncan

Al,
thanks for this instruct. Stupid of me not to figure this out by myself.
I don't do this often, and, I forget. I'll do a screen save that shows my
suspect "double" taskbar.

Rick,
Got your suggestion. I'll play with it tonight. Does the fact that I have IE7
make any difference? (now that SP3 is installed, I'm told that IE7 is locked
in place)

[H] How do I stop a program folder from appearing on desktop?

2006-01-18 Thread Jerry Jones
I purchased a Samsung YP-U1Z mp3 player this past weekend and installed the
software. The software was basically two things: an audio player and a
firmware updater. Every time I boot my PC, a window opens on the desktop
that shows the contents of the folder where the firmware updater program is
stored. It is a windows explorer window showing the path c:\Program
Files\Audio\Samsung. It is not executing the program, just opening the
folder.

I have looked in the Startup folders for each user account, but see nothing
there that would open this folder. I have looked in msconfig at the startup
tab and see nothing referencing this path. What would cause this Program
folder to just open each time the computer boots?

I think there are as many ways as there are preferences & the thing we sit on.

I have a reg hack that I use that adds to the explorer context menu a Dir
command & it places a dir.txt file in my C:\temp\ folder.

===begin copy here=

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell\Dir\command]
@="command.com /c dir /o /s >c:\\temp\\dir.txt"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Drive\shell\Dir\command]
@="command.com /c dir /o/s >c:\\temp\\drivedir.txt"

==end copy here===

then I put that file on my CDs or DVDs but I also archive the completed
disk with an app called SuperCat that one can see more info at
http://no-nonsense-software.com/ & a nice little freeware app called Cdrom
List Creator that also adds itself to the Explorer context menu & you can
see more about it at http://www.leeos.com/cdrom_list_creator.html

But these are only a few & I'm sure others have respectable alternatives.
